@@FixitwithFowler i was just tried to clean the flush diaphragm and put it back but water still seems to be running after tank fills, could there be other issues?
@sinntamang Yes, the overflow in modern toilets runs into the bowl so it's worth checking that the water level is lower than the overflow inside the cistern
Hi ya I’ve just watched this video and have that same dual system- but when you undone the push button where was the plastic catch that attaches to the actual system as I don’t know how to attach it back!!!

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Hi, this is the exact system I have, but my problem isn’t water leaking from the tank into bowl, but the inlet of water to the tank is taking too long to complete fill, and there’s like a small sprinkling of water from the contraption on the left hand side filling it up after flush, but I can’t unscrew the bolt thing. Are you able to advise or do a video? Thanks
@@FixitwithFowler i watched your video and learned to remove the main body, the rubber has degraded so bad it is full of small holes lol, now i can await the replacement and four the new one. Although it's arriving tomorrow via Amazon lol, thanks Fowler!
I changed the whole thing, gasket was almost same price as the whole assembly. Simple bayonet fit . Then the diaphragm washer split on the in let valve , changed that , problem solved. Two weeks later more problems. On top of the inlet valve sits another thickish washer which had perished . £5 washer ( hard to get hold of ) or change the inlet valve. What a mission , looked easy enough until I got down with the spanner at the entry point just above the isolation valve. The plastic nut type attachment is seated underneath ( obviously) but right up close to the whole toilet . Getting the spanner around is a nightmare . Took about an hour as you can only tighten it up like 10 degrees at at time . Ughh. Hopefully it’s good for many more years
Bliney some mission but definitely cheaper than getting a plumber to do it. I do have a video about changing the inlet valve, and sometimes you can change the diapram in the inlet valve, obviously, depending on the manufacturer. Thanks for your comment!
@@FixitwithFowler ive changed the diaphragm washer about 4/5 times, usually perish after a few yrs. Used to be about £1.50, now at screwfix £5! And they have to be spot on when you replace them. Also, above on top there’s another washer but without the white pointy plastic bit. You have to prise off a plastic cap to access it. That can perish too. Can’t believe they can charge £5 for such a small thing . And yes, re fitting the entry valve was a mission . Only a small gap between the toilet and the part that holds the water , That was the problem.
@@FixitwithFowler I’ve just watched that video. You even undid the plastic washer but with one hand ! And you had loads of room. Wish I could post you a picture of my difficulty .
@peterkenworthy9219 These things can be a right pain to be fair. Access is the biggest issue and space like you said. Well, at least now you can use your toilet safe in the knowledge it's fully rebuilt 🤣. Please consider subscribing to help me reach my 50k subscriber goal 🤩
@@FixitwithFowler er, go on then I’ll see what else you’ve posted . It cud be useful. PS. With easier access it would have been much much easier. And my replacement part was identical apart from that the entry was plastic and not copper , but seem to think it was exactly the same part .
When I put my as you would call it plunger back in it does not push back up it stays down. So when I go to flush I can't push down is there away to fix that or is it just broke ? Hope you can help me
Hi, I have the exact one in the video, can you tell me what model it is ? does the replacement in the description above have the lugs to locate the system back in place ?
Hi, unfortunately, i don't know the model. I just cleaned the flush valve washer, and that was the job done. There isn't really any need to replace the whole unit. There are links in the description for the washers.
Oh right, have you checked that the basket (thats the part that is fixed to the bottom of the cistern) is tight and cant be moved. If this is loose it can let water pass and it will leak directly into the pan
Thank you. I have found one on amazon which looks similar but not the same. It may just be an updated version but not sure it will work. Any advice from you is welcome!
Help!! - I live in Spain in a rented property. My landlord expects me to pay for repairs. The old cistern had a side arm and inside it had a traditional ball cock system. It stopped working and the landlord brought in his plumber and the plumber replaced the ball cock, and lever with a push button (on the side where the leaver had been) and a contraption similar to the one you show here, connected by a length of tubing (?) the pushing of the buttons results in the water flushing the bowl but then it remains in the dropped position and of course water escapes into the bowl until you open up the lid and push the inside (shuttle) down by hand. We were told they didn't make ball cocks and levers any more, so have to have this system ( 🤔 huh? ) and the landlord won't replace the cistern with a new one. I'm damned if I want to keep paying for this but I need it to work - please advise what I should do 🙏🏻
How do I know how to position all the parts back i took the system out separately as I didn’t realise it all came out together . I fixed the seal but caused another problem
A bit late now, but whenever you are doing something you are unsure about, you should always take photos, and then you will have something to reference. It might be worth looking for the manufacturer, then you can Google and look at images. Maybe that will help?
I know I wish I had I’ll know next time I’ve found it on Amazon but not clear enough for me to copy . I was so pleased with myself when I fixed the seal never had to do any home maintenance before . I’ll look online for manufacturers . Thankyou
Can you help? I took the flush unit out and an extra bottom bit came out too. I separated the bits and sorted the rubber bit and screwed the unit back in. The cistern now leaks from where I screwed it out! Put it back in3 times and still leaks. The rubber bit at the bottom looks ok and it’s not cross threaded. What should I do?😢
Thanks for the update and the way you explain things thanks once again for the efforts and for sharing this with us. You do deserve a very large danish beer in a good warm sommer day🤣👍🙏you save me money for that beer
If anyone watches this and it doesn't work ... I have a solution. This exact model of toilet. The toilet was constantly flushing, and I knew this behaviour from another toilet - the diaphragm was ruptured ... a £5 fix But, why was the previous diaphragm ruptured? I couldn't care. I replaced the part and it seemed to work fine ... for one day Maybe I hadn't put it in right? I tried again - and it seemed to be fine. And then it happened again ... And again ... And again ... ... Eventually, I took the decision to remove the intake valve and inspect it - the RUclips plumbers suggested a simple twist to the left - and off we go ... It didn't work - I twisted to the right and left, and even did the jitterbug ... eventually, it just came off in my hand ... I still don't know how. I inspected the pipe - and my face fell flat on the floor ... A large piece of grit had lodged itself in the tube (that's what's in my water supply!) Even when I had dislodged it previously, and all seemed to be normal, water pressure made it block the tube again. And when it did, the water pressure that escaped around it was so high that it was impossible for the valve to close and stop the toilet continuously filling. A piece of grit in the pipe. No problems since. Hope that helps somebody.
Thanks for your in-depth comment. It's strange to have grit in your cold water supply. Have you had any work done recently or work in the street that could affect the water supply? The only reason I ask is because the same grit could be entering your boiler, and that is definitely something you don't want to happen.
@@FixitwithFowler Nobody has invaded our water supply since we moved in 10 years ago. The only serious plumbing work we had done was a new boiler, about 5 years ago. The previous one broke down due to water flooding its system We were without hot water for 2 weeks during that winter - mainly because Haart lettings, the agent, pretended to fix the problem and case closed, when all they had done was sent a plumber round to assess the damage. Eventually - even after their fibs about how they had informed the Landlady and were just waiting to hear back from her ... ... the landlady did actually hear about how she might probably need to fork out for a new boiler ... ... she sent her OWN plumber round - and he was superb. I saw him talking to her on the phone ... "yeah - the boiler's gone. They've been without hot water for two weeks!" She instructed her plumber to tell me to bypass Haart completely - and directly come to him if it happened again. But I don't think that's where the grit came from. We suffer from low water pressure - and the guy that came around to change our kitchen taps earlier this year remarked that even hot water was low pressure, suggesting something wrong in the boiler We got through the winter ok - but when the radiators come on, it smells like steaming smelly socks - it's horrible ,, what causes that? (I've looked - there's no smelly socks lodged down the back of any of the radiators!)
@75eleanor, it doesn't matter which side the filler is [ that's the part at the side]. The bit that matters is in the middle [the flush unit]. That's the part that you need to take out.
Does anyone have experience with a toilet with double button flush, but the rod connecting the buttons from the action is two halves of a rod. One half for each button. The buttons stopped working, I found out of that. But not a living chance to get the buttons and the rod back together again..
@@FixitwithFowler Sadly not, the one on the picture have two rods. While the one I'm looking for has two rods that looks like one, going down the centre.
@@FixitwithFowler This is the first time for me to 😳 I've spent hours trying to find out how it works and why it doesn't work now 😅 Because I can get it back together, it just stops working as soon as the buttons are in place. I've checked the flush valve seal and it's fine but I can't find a way to check the inlet valve and I'm not 100% sure what I need to check so that it stops the water continuing to run? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Hi, there is one on my channel. Just look through my videos. It's one of my first videos i did!
wonderful teaching, thank you (from belgiium)
That's amazing, glad you liked the video!
You my friend are a genius. Thankyou so much
Ohhhh, I will take that "genius," lol 😆 thanks for your comment 👍
Hi, this is the exact system I have, but my problem isn’t water leaking from the tank into bowl, but the inlet of water to the tank is taking too long to complete fill, and there’s like a small sprinkling of water from the contraption on the left hand side filling it up after flush, but I can’t unscrew the bolt thing. Are you able to advise or do a video? Thanks
I do have a video on a toilet not filling, that might help you out!
Thanks Sir. Can you tell me the company name of the make of the system in which the rubber valve was fitted ?
Hi, unfortunately, i dont know the make of the flush valve. However, there are links to products in the video description if that helps.
I think it is a SIAMP, its the same as mine.
Thanks for your comment 👍
@@FixitwithFowler i watched your video and learned to remove the main body, the rubber has degraded so bad it is full of small holes lol, now i can await the replacement and four the new one. Although it's arriving tomorrow via Amazon lol, thanks Fowler!
@jrsc01. No problem, I'm glad the video has helped, and thanks for your comment 👍
Thank you so much for so clearly explaining the process
You are so welcome! I'm glad the video has helped!
Thanks for the instruction, so helpful
Hi, hopefully you have managed to fix your toilet! Thanks for your comment!
I have the same unit but the flush buttons lay a lot lower in the lid. Do you know if this can be adjusted? Thanks. Great video.
I am unsure but i can check on Monday
@@FixitwithFowler cheers. I see there are clips and what looks like segmented long collar but not sure if that is to do with adjusting it!
@davidbrockwell147 im away until monday so i can have a look then!
Only a small gap between the toilet and the part that holds the water ,
That was the problem.
@@FixitwithFowler
I’ve just watched that video.
@@FixitwithFowler er, go on then
I’ll see what else you’ve posted . It cud be useful.
PS. With easier access it would have been much much easier.
And my replacement part was identical apart from that the entry was plastic and not copper , but seem to think it was exactly the same part .
I pulled my cistern lid off, not realising I had to loosen the button 🙄 Can this be fixed or will I have to buy another one? 🤦🏼♀️
Sorry for the late reply, you might be able to refit the lid and be ok.
Great. This matched the unit I have. Good honest advice. Thanks
Hi, thanks for your comment! Im glad the toilet video has helped you out!
Hy I can’t find the little tabs at the bottom to detach the whole thing
They are hard to see, probably best trying to feel with your hands.
Great video (Mr) Fowler., helped a lot.. or is that your first name..? ; )
Hi, yes, that's my surname! Glad the video helped you out. Dont forget to give the video a 👍 and subscribe for more useful videos!
Thank you for letting me know about fixing this running problem. Solved
Hi, I'm glad the video helped you solve the running toilet!
When I put my as you would call it plunger back in it does not push back up it stays down. So when I go to flush I can't push down is there away to fix that or is it just broke ? Hope you can help me
Unfortunately it sounds like its broke, however its hard to tell without seeing it!
Cracking video 🤝🏻 problem fixed first time thank you 👍🏻
Brilliant to hear. That's what my channel is all about! If you've not already, please consider subscribing!
I have changed the washer but still gettung the problem
@@FixitwithFowler
Have you cleaned the seat? Where the washer seals in the toilet?
yeah cleaned all around the area where the unit clips in and where washer sits@@FixitwithFowler
Oh right, have you checked that the basket (thats the part that is fixed to the bottom of the cistern) is tight and cant be moved. If this is loose it can let water pass and it will leak directly into the pan
Cheers lad very good video easy to follow
I'm glad you thought the video was good, and thanks for your comment!
This is our exact cistern set up but the link to buy the replacement isn't working??
Oh sorry it's an older video. I will have a look later on today!
Thank you. I have found one on amazon which looks similar but not the same. It may just be an updated version but not sure it will work. Any advice from you is welcome!
Great informative video, this one and the one for the inlet valve. Thank you
@sarahbaxter5563 have you got the link so I can have a look?
I've put the link on here twice now but it keeps disappearing 🤔
I'm damned if I want to keep paying for this but I need it to work - please advise what I should do 🙏🏻
It sounds like the flush mechanism is faulty. I would contact your landlord and get it replaced!
Thank you from Tahiti ❤
You're welcome 😊
Thank you, solutions worked great
I'm glad it worked, thanks
Thx much from toronto. I will try now
Toronto, that's amazing! Hopefully, this video will help you out!
I got same flush
I mesh up balance stick which not fixed properly
I want to fix valve but with whole instruction
I have another toilet video on my channel which may help
Thankyou
@angrysheep5498 no problem, hopefully you will get it sorted 👍
How do you actually set the mechanism for a flush .. I've to hold my button
Amazing worked a treat thank you!

Hi were can I get a new unit for the flush one of the side is broken please
There are links in the video description 🙂
Very helpful thanks
Glad it helped, thanks for your comment 👍
Thanks for your helpful video!
Hi, thanks for your comment 👍 hopefully you have fixed your running toilet now!
How do.
Why might this running only happen when half flush is used, but not when both are pushed, plse?
Have you tried replacing or cleaning the flush seal?
@@FixitwithFowler going to do that for starters. Will let you know.
What should I do?😢
Hi, there should be a cradle in the bottom that the flush unit fits into. Is that secure or does it just turn?
Hey! I’ve screwed it in tight. I don’t understand why it’s leaking 😢
@HazelP-ho2gy it should only turn about 90° to lock into place
Thanks 😊
Helpful video! Also gotta say, I didn't expect a handyman to also have really fucking funny transitions (5:31) LMAO
Ha, I'm glad you liked it 😄. I would really appreciate you liking 👍 the video and subscribing. Thanks

Do you have an isolator under the toilet?
Super
Hope you found the toilet video useful 👍
Can't see what your doing with the writing on screen 😢
If anyone watches this and it doesn't work ...
I have a solution.
This exact model of toilet.
The toilet was constantly flushing, and I knew this behaviour from another toilet - the diaphragm was ruptured ... a £5 fix
But, why was the previous diaphragm ruptured?
I couldn't care. I replaced the part and it seemed to work fine ... for one day
Maybe I hadn't put it in right?
I tried again - and it seemed to be fine.
And then it happened again ...
And again ...
And again ...
...
Eventually, I took the decision to remove the intake valve and inspect it - the RUclips plumbers suggested a simple twist to the left - and off we go ...
It didn't work - I twisted to the right and left, and even did the jitterbug ... eventually, it just came off in my hand ... I still don't know how.
I inspected the pipe - and my face fell flat on the floor ...
A large piece of grit had lodged itself in the tube (that's what's in my water supply!)
Even when I had dislodged it previously, and all seemed to be normal, water pressure made it block the tube again.
The previous one broke down due to water flooding its system
We were without hot water for 2 weeks during that winter - mainly because Haart lettings, the agent, pretended to fix the problem and case closed, when all they had done was sent a plumber round to assess the damage.
They've been without hot water for two weeks!"
She instructed her plumber to tell me to bypass Haart completely - and directly come to him if it happened again.
But I don't think that's where the grit came from.
We suffer from low water pressure - and the guy that came around to change our kitchen taps earlier this year remarked that even hot water was low pressure, suggesting something wrong in the boiler
We got through the winter ok - but when the radiators come on, it smells like steaming smelly socks - it's horrible ,, what causes that? (I've looked - there's no smelly socks lodged down the back of any of the radiators!)
My system is the opposite way round from yours. 😢
Hi, what do you mean the opposite way round?
The parts are the opposite side from yours. It keeps running. Does my head in. Lol
@75eleanor, it doesn't matter which side the filler is [ that's the part at the side]. The bit that matters is in the middle [the flush unit]. That's the part that you need to take out.
I can't even budge the screw to stop the water filling up. I'll get my bloke to have a go tomorrow. Lol
@75eleanor, you might need to adjust the filler instead. I have a video on how to replace the filler unit, that might be worth a look
Such a faff compared to the good old fashioned and very simple ballcock system
Yeah I agree, alot to go wrong!
Does anyone have experience with a toilet with double button flush, but the rod connecting the buttons from the action is two halves of a rod. One half for each button. The buttons stopped working, I found out of that. But not a living chance to get the buttons and the rod back together again..
Is it like this? amzn.to/4cHAvM8
@@FixitwithFowler Sadly not, the one on the picture have two rods. While the one I'm looking for has two rods that looks like one, going down the centre.
@dalitrh I've never seen one like that
@@FixitwithFowler This is the first time for me to 😳 I've spent hours trying to find out how it works and why it doesn't work now 😅 Because I can get it back together, it just stops working as soon as the buttons are in place. But I'm pretty sure Murphys law are effing with me, so I'll just try to do it the wrong way and maybe it works out 😂
@dalitrh, these sort of things are so frustrating! Sometimes you spend ages trying to do something fiddly, then just out of the blue, it works. Hope you get it sorted!
when i screwed it of the hole thing fell apart cant get it back together again help
Does it look anything like the one in the video?
@@FixitwithFowler yes it does but the midle fell out ot it
@tomprice7105 can you slot it back together or are the clips broken?
hi the centure of it wont stay in place when i press the buttins the cennture fall out
Have you clipped it back into the cistern? Do you mean once you replace the lid?
Thanks
Thanks so much for your Super Thanks 😊. I'm glad the video helped
