I watched this 2 years ago when I fixed my 3 toilets, and one is already faulty again and none of the other videos online help, so I was desperately trying to find you again! Have saved this video now, re ommend people do the same, these toilets and parts are cheap as hell and will go wrong again!
Thank you so much for the video! I had a persistent overflow leak in my toilet and after watching your video I investigated and realised it was a faulty inlet valve diaphragm…Ordered a £6 replacement from Amazon, it arrived this morning and I fitted it in 2mins. Problem sorted! Saved me a £150 out of hours plumber visit. Thanks again 🙏🏽
Honestly the best video I found to help fix my annoying toilet! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and explain every step so concisely.
Mate you’re a legend. Our ensuite toilet has been overflowing like this for god knows how long. At least a year since we moved in i guess, but these past few months its been really troubling me to the point of losing sleep over it and being reluctant to call a plumber to pay plumber prices for what i assumed would be a simple fix. I had already tried the first fix which didn’t work but the second solution did the charm so thank you so much for providing the knowledge and giving me the confidence to fix it. I can now sleep without hearing a distant trickle/ hissing noise!!
Where did you get the diaphragm from? I bought some a while ago that weren't exactly as needed. Hard to source these, your help would be awesome. Thanks
Thanks so much for posting this. Both seals were damaged on mine after 12 years. The edges of the flush seal had crumbled away over time, and the diaphragm, although visually sound, had a pin hole in it. The flush seal was out of stock in 5 places I tried, but my local Wolseley came up trumps for both items. The replacement flush seal is actually white & the diaphragm is the same minus the little ribs. The SVO1967 flush mechanism has apparently been discontinued now, but the seals can still be sourced at the moment. I bought spare items just in case. Both work perfectly. Top work sir! 👏👏👏
You, sir, are a life-saver. The toilet was driving me nuts as it would be constantly re-filling (mostly at night, for some reason - I think it was doing it deliberately to annoy me! 😄). I finally got around to fixing after seeing my latest water bill! 😬 I'd always thought that plumbing was some dark art, but this was so simple to do, so thank you, thank you, you've probably saved me a small fortune over the next few years. 👍🏻
Freehansa you are Godsent. I was quoted £100 plus parts and yet did not turn up for the job. So I was forced to search for help online. I was about giving up when I saw your video and found out it was my kind of water system and same problem. Long story short, bought the parts this afternoon, changed them following your instructions and the leaks stopped. You have started my weekend on a good note. Thanks bruv!
This video was perfect for me. My cistern has exactly the same parts inside, and it clearly showed me what I needed to do to stop the water dribbling down the back of the pan. Parts ordered and now easily fitted, having followed this video. 👍
Excellent video! Have the same ideal Standard toilet and both parts needed replacement. Dripping and tank not filling up water all now fixed. First woman plumbing job done 👍.Thank you so much. You saved me £120 bill for plumber.
Thank you! I had no idea how to access the flush valve and my only access was thru the flushplate hole in a tiled in cistern. Did it all by touch after watching your vid, 15 minute job, saved me calling out a plumber!
Thanks very much for the info! I'm usually D.I.Y. (destroy it yourself) but I've successfully fixed the issue without calling in a plumber. Great job, thanks again.
Thank you for making this video. As you say I've struggled to find this information online, was fearing I'd have to remove the whole cistern and replace the part. Saved me a lot of time and effort! Thank you
I am so pleased I came across this video. I have had exactly the same issue as the one you are talking through. After replacing the main flush valve (which probably needed to be replaced anyway, the water was still leaking from the inlet valve, even after holding up the plastic float which I didn’t even know was possible!! Anyway, thankfully after taking a picture of your diaphragm part I went to multiple stores and all had the standard diaphragm valve which you also show (from screwfix etc) after going to my final plumbing merchant (Wolesley Plum Centre) they gave me the correct valve and like your set up, the water valve is all tiled away behind the toilet. From switching off the main water valve in the kitchen to replacing the diaphragm, it took about 4 minutes! Switched the water back on and now all working. Your video is very well explained for me and has probably saved me a call out fee and a replacement inlet valve, all for some inconvenience in shopping around today for the correct valve and spending £8 as I had to buy the full ideal inlet service pack. Thank you again!!!
Hey followed this fix again as the inlet diaphragm went, Freehansa, I can't state how invaluable your video is, all the info and gotchas are spot on. I had it playing in the plumbers merchants while we were working out which part it was (raised edges as opposed to the flat edges as you said). Absolutely spot on fix. Thanks again! Saved me a lot of money.
Hi Kato, Where did it find the Ideal Standard Univalve Diaphragms. Mine got raised edges as compared to the flat edges. I am not able to find it online or from Ideal Standard.
You explained this well. I had this problem in two loos, and it turned out one was just the flush valve but the other needed both changing, though I found the new (non-ridged) Ideal Standard inlet valve diaphragm cap worked fine. You saved me a plumber's bill and a lot of stress - thank you.
Freehansa, thank you so much. What a great tutorial. And you present it in such an easy to follow manner. I have the exact model and issue so it was perfect and saved me paying a plumber.
Thanks for the video. I had purchased one of the service kits and thought I would have a look at how someone else did it, even though I had replaced one before. HOWEVER, when I took the other one apart and fitted the diaphragm, it did not stop filling up. It then became apparent that I needed the one WITHOUT the lip around the top. If I had not watched your video, I would not have known there were 2 types! So despite it fact it was not the one you needed, it was the one I needed!! So once again, thank you for your informative video.
You are a star, watched ya video, same fixture as mine, water supply would not stop when the float reached that point, changed the rubber boot washer thing and now it’s all good. Thank you for posting the answer to my problem
Just wanted to say thanks for your video, it really helped and the leak was fixed in minutes. I wouldn’t have know where to start without your advice, thanks
Very helpful, thank you! I had the same problems but was fortunate that a good clean of the inlet valve diaphragm sorted the drip. The flush rubber was very clogged up with toilet cleaner - a new one was easily fitted with your instructions.
Thanks so much for the very clear instructions. You made it all straightforward and simple to understand. I'm off to my famous local Aladdins cave hardware shop in the morning. They've been there since the 1860's! If they don't have it then no one else will!!
This fixed my issue. I'm clueless with these things so thank you very much! I was considering getting a plumber in but in the end it cost me less than a fiver. Brilliant video!
Excellent video, I've had the exact same problem with the exact same toilet. I've replaced both washers and now the bathroom is totally silent. The other washer was obviously disintegrating, there was black fluid all around. Brilliant.
Great news that you fixed it! May I ask where you managed to buy the smaller more complex diaphram from? I have searched, but no-one seems to stock that one. Many thanks.
Many thanks for posting this video!! My house has exactly these Ideal Standard toilets (Alto) and after 10 years have similarly started to drip. Having watched this video and ordering the bits, my toilet is now fixed. Brilliant - and saved the expense of a plumber. Thank you so much!!
Well this was so helpful, many thanks saved us £100 as second valve was the issue on the inlet diaphragm, amazon purchase fixed in seconds thank you again worth the post 👍🏼
Thanks for this, I have 3 of these cisterns in my house and up to now I have always taken the cistern off and changed the whole siphon. This will save me a lot of time and monet.
Brilliant video - just saved me a plumber visit - mine was changed only recently by a plumber but he hadnt made sure it was properly in so there was still a slight trickle. Cleaned it up and it seems to be ok now. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this!!! I have had exactly the same leaks for almost a year, it's been driving me mad! I bought 3 seals this morning and fitted them in around 10 minutes, problem completely solved!

Just wanted to let others know that the new one will be smooth, the ridges that are on the old one are caused by it compressing into the tube, that’s what causes it to fail. Thanks again.

Very cleary explaned. Thanks to that contributor. I will now try to fix my leak myself rather than cann in an expensive plumber. I have ordered the parts already from Wolseley and will collect and fit them tomorrow. Wish me luck....

Thank you so much. I had the same issue and it is now fixed. I replaced but the flush valve and the diaphragm, so i cant say which of the two (or both...) was faulty. Saved me the plumber's bill
Excellent video, thank you for taking the time to do it. Only point I'd make is that when you have turned off the mains water supply be very careful when turning on any taps. You'd only get a trickle and very soon you will have exhausted the water left in the pipe. That's when air can get into the pipe from the open tap and you can get a bubble of air causing you no end of problems with that tap as water might not pass it when you open it. I resorted to pressing a garden hose coming through the 2nd floor window to squirt water UP the tap nozzle to get rid of the air bubble.
Thanks man, i live in Finland and for some reason my 10 years old house has this type of toilet that the original builder had installed. Very bad thing, because nobody sells these Ideal Standard spare parts here, only option is to know the right part and order from online uk or de. This helped a lot !
I am glad it helped. I was in the same scenario. My house too is 10 years old & I struggled to find the problem and the correct parts. But in the end it all worked alright.
yes this video and instruction helped me fix my toilet very helpful. just like my toilet. i just cleaned the washers and the leak into the pan stopped!

That is an important point actually. Thank you for highlighting it.
@@freehansa My house is also around 10 years old. Any chance you can please let me know where I can find the Diaphragms for the inlet valve, please.
Thanks man great video , couldn't find any detailed info online so definitely helped.🤞
