  • What to check and do if your toilet does not stop filling and the water keeps running. In this video I show you how to replace the toilet fill valve seal and then the fill valve itself. Our toilet kept leaking water into the bowl like this before and last time the problem was a leaking flapper. This time was a little different. The water kept refilling every few minutes and then started to constantly fill and go into the overflow tube. I was hoping I could get away with replacing only the seal but ended up having to replace the whole valve after all. If you are looking for specific instructions and measurements for the fill valve installation, the package it comes in should have that information included. Here are the two parts that I used in the video on Amazon:

    A two-fer! Not only did you show how to replace a gasket, you also showed how to replace the entire valve! I haven't had to replace mine yet (operative word "yet"), but now that I have seen your video, I don't think that I would have to call a plumber to replace it for me. Thank you!

    You should inspect the tank first!!!! If water is not going down the overflow tube then it's not the fill valve , it's the flapper. If it is draining down the overflow tube it's the fill valve.....

    Most excellent advice as usual my friend! As noted by another commenter, the flapper is a culprit with the similar characteristics. 🙌🏻

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  9 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you sir! Yes, I agree. It's almost best to simply replace the fill valve and flapper as a set and get it done with.

    Never heard the whistle. If your fill valve to tank seal is good, you can release the locking ring and pull both valves apart and then inset top of the new one into base of stem still in tank. re-lock with ring. Done. No need to turn water off, disconnect water line , flush or sponge needed. Easy peasy.

    can you do a video on replacing or rebuilding a compression multi turn angle stop? I have 4 toilets and each of them used a Brasscraft multi turn valve on build. Every single one has failed and still leak when closed. I have to shut off my main or just deal with the slow leak with a bucket or towel whenever I do basic maintenance.

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  9 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry to hear about the leaking toilets problem! I wonder if your house water pressure is too high? Since all 4 failed like that. I don't know when I will make a video like that but I will add it to the list. If I was replacing my valves I would go with a shark bite quarter turn valve. Easy to install and holds up pretty good.

    best to replace fill valve at the onset. They are not that expensive and easy to find then just the valve seal.

    • @cockasorrus7475
      @cockasorrus7475 9 месяцев назад +1

      Xactly, but that is a good tip I never knew about. I always have replaced the valve assembly. 🤙🏻

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  9 месяцев назад +2

      I only agree. 👍 I wanted to show that replacing the valve seal is an option too. But like you said, the fill valve assembly is not that expensive so may as well just replace the whole thing.

  • @fisforfriendship6093
    @fisforfriendship6093 7 месяцев назад +1

    imo if your going to replace a fill valve you chould try to just pull up on the top part it might all come off together. you can replace it with a brand new one with just the part you took off by simply pulling up on the bad one

    Hi Jay! I have two questions. When I flush my toilet and the water is leaving the bowl, it behaves as if it's flushing twice - the water pours out of the bowl for what seems an excessive period of time. What's causing that? How can I fix it?
    Also, when the water is refilling, it's really loud. I didn't even know that could be a thing. But it is on my toilet. How do I make it quiet?
    I wonder if these two problems are related. I replaced the fill valve almost 2 yrs ago.

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  8 месяцев назад +2

      I am not sure about the double flushing part but perhaps doing this little thing may fix both issues. Try partially closing the water shut off valve. Reducing the water pressure like that may reduce the noise and potentially stop the double filling. You'd need to try it to find out 😄
