  • In this video we share how to fix a running toilet by replacing the fill valve. We used FluidMaster's 400H which has adjustment levers for both the tank and bowl water levels.
For more home improvement tips visit www.homerepairtutor.com/👍🏼
Supplies we used for this project
    Fluidmaster 400H -- bit.ly/2TDHUo7
    SharkBite Shut Off Valve (1/2") -- amzn.to/2MUUdKe
    Channellock Pliers (Optional) -- amzn.to/2Bo6odU
    Measuring Tape -- amzn.to/2MUboLX
    Scissors
    Sponge
    Bucket
    Pencil
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first step is to turn the water off at the shut off valve. If the shut off valve is broken turn the water off at the home's main valve.
Then flush the toilet and hold the lever down until most of the water drains from the tank. Use a sponge to remove the rest of the water.
Unscrew the water supply line from the old fill valve, use Channellock pliers if necessary. Remove the old fill valve and dry fit the 400H.
The top of the Fluidmaster 400H should be roughly 3" from the top of the flush valve. In addition, the top of the flush valve should be 1" below the tank lever location.
Adjust the 400H height by turning the black column clockwise or counterclockwise. Then cut the hose to the right length so that it doesn't catch on top of the toilet tank lid. Insert the hose into the clamp and attach it to the flush valve.
Secure the 400H to the bottom of the toilet tank using the provided nut, just hand tighten it. And hand tighten the water supply line to the bottom of the 400H. Turn on the water at the shut off valve and check for leaks.
Watch our video to see how to adjust the water in the tank and toilet bowl

The most helpful and detailed ...step by step video that I've found. Thorough and detailed, while being able to see the process, up close ..POV and that makes it so much more helpful than other videos I've seen.

Thank you fixed my toilet today for $15. 1 tip, not necessarily "instead of measuring", but when I took the old one off, I just made the new valve the same size by lining up the fill valves next to each other and then unscrewing until the same length.😂😂😂 Thank You Again!

61 y/o woman just changed a fill valve thanks to your video. All I've ever done with a toilet is use it, clean it or plunge it. Your detailed and to the point video gave me the confidence to feel I could do it. Thank you for saving me money because my other option was to call a plumber to change out a $14 part.😘

Simple, straightforward, no use of terms that a average person wouldn’t know, start to finish of whole process; this video not only helped me replace that for my toilet, but genuinely pleased me with how well made it was.
You my friend are a shining example of how all “how-to” and DIY videos should be made! Keep up the great work!

Ja, imagine us folks before UTube 🤣 we had a set of handy repair type books years back. Had to fix a garbage disposal was stuck or something. The darn book said put in a broom handle and that should get out whatever it was. I don't remember the whole thing, but I did & the darn thing worked like normal. Go figure.👍😁🤣

I have done one toilet valve replacement many years ago and checked your video here today on just to make sure I did it right and your video helped! I rose my new fill valve unit as high as the older one...installed it and connected the item to the toilet tank itself...hooked back up the water line and turned it on slowly for possible leaks. No leaks, so I flushed the toilet and it works just like new again! I used the FluidMaster 400A unit though. Thanks!

This video was very easy to understand and every step was clearly demonstrated and explained. My toilet had been running and I was able to replace the fill valve by myself. The only issue I encountered was the old one was over 20 years old and I couldn’t unscrew the plastic ring that sealed it to the tank. I had to go buy a small hack saw to cut it off. After that it was a breeze to install the new one. Thank you so .much!

Excellent video. I have Fluidmaster fill valves in all 3 of my toilets, but prior to watching your video, I never knew they were adjustable. (I'm sure I would've known that long ago if I'd taken the time to read the instructions!) The cost of water here is very high and my toilets are older, so they aren't designed to conserve water. They currently use considerably more water than necessary. Being able to adjust the fill valves will allow me to reduce the amount of water used every time a toilet is flushed. Thanks to you, I'm looking forward to a lower water bill in the future!

Once we got the old valve out ( which was a ridiculously long project because the previous owner glued the thing on the bottom), it took about 3 minutes to install the new one because your directions were so clear. Also, very helpful to know which one to purchase- thanks, again!🎉

My master bedroom toilet never ever totally flushed, I always had to flush twice or more and/ or pour some liquid soap in the center right after pulling the lever so it would flush all the waste. Thanks to you I adjusted the height of the fill system and now it flushes perfectly. I had new flapper and lever , so that didn't need to be replaced. I bought the Fluidmaster 400H because I like the fact that is easy to adjust all features.
Thank you Sir for a great , short and even more important , easy understand video.
