- The first project I’m tackling in the new house is replacing all the fill valves in the toilets. Coming from only 1 toilet at the warehouse, the 5 toilets in the new house is an exciting upgrade and we want to be able to use them all.

Better than a manual this video is great thx for the help mate. Great Video
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I'm glad you found my video helpful!
Thank you so much for educating me on this. During this ridiculous inflation it's so nice to be able to have someone like you be streaming DIY videos for us first timers who can't afford hourly labor fees!!! Much appreciated!!!🌹
This is why I make these videos! Whether it's financial, scheduling conflicts, or just knowledge for yourself, there are plenty of reasons why it's good to know DIY skills. I'm glad you were able to find value in my video!
Thank you so much! You made my life so much better by cheaper water bill and not having to pay a plumber for this.
Love hearing that! Glad my video could help
Thanks for the video. Really helpful for someone who hasn't done this in about ten years and wanted a refresher!
Glad you found it helpful!
We've (myself, my wife and the twins) have been dealing with 3 days of attempting to do what you did in 3 minutes...it wasn't a leak it was a waterfall, going directly into the basement... failure, retrial, after failure...after "watching" your video-it helped tremendously...you can play Barry Manalo or Slayer in your "self help videos"...I DON'T CARE!!! It helped...and if your watching plumbing videos for the music, you have to be under 30. Thank you again and anyone giving you grief for the tunes can go kick rocks and then eat some for desert....
Glad to hear my video was helpful for you! Thank you for the support, it really means a lot
Thanks for the video. Didn't look at the manual. Watched this one time and got it done right in the first try 😅
No leaks, no constant running water from the bowl. Thanks again
Terrific How To Video!!! Your detailed instruction enabled me to change out an old ball-cock that was corroded with a Fluidmaster! My late dad would be super proud of me! Thanks for the guidance!
Thanks! I only had to watch your video once, got 'er done. 🙂It's really a quick and easy job. Your video made it painless.
Thanks I make countertops and sad to say i never did this toilet stuff...I hadta today and found your video and watched while doing it like 4 times ...THANK YOU very very simple with your help...if you didnt make this video I would have thrown my friggin toilet out the window and bought and outhouse
Plain and simple. Great video !
Thank you so much. The part about leaving the lock nut a little loose was very valuable info.
I want to say thank you for this very informative video, I’m 51 and live next door to my mother, my father passed years ago and my Aunt is flying in to stay with my mom for a few nights and mom was fretting over the toilet running so much. Two trips to Home Depot and thanks to your video (I know nothing of plumbing) I was able to replace all the guts of my mom’s toilet and it runs perfectly now!
Thank you for sharing, this is exactly why I make these videos! Glad to hear you were able to fix your mom's toilet
Thank you, I was looking for the video that had the part that I bought and you helped so much, replacing a old ball guts with this new version was tricky but you made it easy, thank you!
You have helped a lot of people. Thank you for posting
This video is just perfect. Exactly what I needed to know. My own installation went exactly as above. Not a single issue. Thank you so much!
Glad to hear my video was helpful!
Thanks... A year ago upload and still very helpful. I did it thanks to you....😀😃😄😁
Awesome video...helped a lot. Thank you and God bless you.
Thanks for the tutorial! My toilets been running nonstop and finally just bit the bullet to get a new stopper. Hoping I’ll be able to fix it tmrw when the part gets here!
To much tension on the chain connecting the handle to the flapper can be the cause of that. But if the fill valve is the older style probably just worth doing a full replacement since another part could have failed.
Thank you so much for this video, so helpful! 👍
Mission accomplished, thanks for the video!
Great video, easy instructions to follow 👍🏼
Thank you. I am Miss fix it today.
Great instructional video. Thank you 🙏🏽
Great video, straight to the point!
Thank you. I've never done any sort of plumbing but this only took about 10 minutes. Easy, peasy.
That's great to hear! Glad my video could help you
Thanks my dude 👍🏻
Thank you so much!! I enjoyed the music!!
Great vid. Nice pants 😉
Thanks My Man
Thanks man super helpful
This video really helped. Thanks.
You're welcome! Glad to hear it
Very good video😆👍🏾
Video was helpful thanks.
I think I did the chain part wrong though since it's not flushing quickly
The chain does take some trial and error to get the adjustment right. My first valve install, I think it took me like 5-6 attempts to find the right tension. If you think its not flushing well, it might be the tension on the chain is not allowing enough water out of the tank before the flapper closes. If this is happening, usually you have to hold the handle down to get it to flush completely. On the other hand, you could also have the tension allowing for too much water, which would make the tank take longer to refill and the flush would last longer because of the extra water. Toilet design also plays a big role in how quickly the toilet flushes. I have noticed the larger the tank (typically older less efficient toilets), the more water per flush, then the slower the flush, cause it needs a lot more water to push everything through the lines. The smaller tanks (typically new and more efficient) that require less water per flush tend to be faster. I'm no toilet expert, and I know this isn't a straight forward answer, but it really is just a little trial and error on the chain adjustment. Hope this helps some.
Very useful! 🙏
These guys are charging me $350 for 3 toilets, and I have to buy the parts!! 😮 I feel confident to try it on my own now 😊 Thanks!
This is exactly why I make my videos. In hopes that someone like you watches them and finds out that you can do it yourself, saving yourself time and money. You got this!
I always replace the water line with a new one everytime. Tried one of those flood protect ones and have no had an issue with it.
thank you
perfect tutorial.
Appreciate it!
@@thediygrunt watched your video and went and fixed my own fill valve in about 15 minutes with zero doubt about what I was doing. you have a gift for explanation!
I'm glad I was able to help! And thank you for the kind words, it really means a lot
Good instructional video. The music in the background is distracting though, it almost drowns out your voice which is the most important part of the video.
Thanks for the feedback. several people have complained about the music being to loud in the video so I made sure to turn it down in all videos after this one. Unfortunately I can't do anything about this one now that it is posted.
The old locknut is stuck to the pipe coming out of the toilet. I can't remove the old assembly. Any suggestions?
Sweeet thank you!
The angled seat on the flapper body that is insde the toilet along with the diameter of the hole that the water goes down is a big thing to address some are bout 2 others ar 3 and sizes vary by toiilet most take the common size fluid master. I had a toilet that would not take anything but the original 3 inch that I could not find a replacement for at the home deep hole in my area...
Thank you so much! This was extremely helpful. I was so nervous about replacing everything in my daughter's toilet because it wouldn't stop running/fill up the tank. Excellent video!
One more thing. Why didn't you clean the tank?! 😂 (Before anyone comes for me, it's recommended that you clean your tank whenever it looks like that to remove rust and mildew.)
OMG!!!!!!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I followed this video step by step!!!😊 I’m so glad I found it!!
I'm glad to hear you found the video helpful!
When connecting the water line back onto the toilet will teflon tape be needed at all or does it depend on the setup
I do not remembering using it and I have had no issues at all, though I could be mistaken. Plumbers tape will not hurt so you can feel free to use it. Worst case if you do not and turn the water back on you should see a leak almost instantly so just turn it off right away and add the tape.
Great instruction video! But who else thinks the narrator sounds like Joe Rogan?
In some videos they take the tank out. Is that necessary? My problem is the toilet constantly running.
I have never had to remove the tank to replace the fill valve on a toilet. I do not know of any toilet fill valve kit that would require the tank to be removed.
What was the affect of turning that grey thingy to the right , towards the end of the video?
It raises and lowers the amount of water in the tank by small adjustments
Will this kit work to replace a Mansfield style toilet kit?
I would recommend looking up the manufacturer's website and seeing what it says or call one of the companies for a definite answer.
Are there any benefits to changing out the old style flush valves to this new style? We just moved into a new house and our toilets have the old style. And when I say new house I mean brand new house. I’m a little surprised they went with this old style of flush valve
The benefits would (in my opinion) not be worth the cost of upgrading to the newer style fill valves unless you are having issues with them or they are very loud when refilling the tank. There is nothing wrong with the older style, its old proven technology, it does the job and it is proven to last a long time. When I replaced mine they were most likely as old as the house and my house is 30 years old. The contractor would have used the old style in your brand new home simply because its saves money and they want to maximize their profits. Now the benefits of the newer valves are, typically its easier to make adjustments to the water level in the tank and bowel quickly and it takes up less space in the tank compared to the float valve which makes it easier to work on anything in the tank if necessary . Also the newer fill valves can be quieter than the float valves when refilling the tank, in fact some brands sell valves marketed based off how quiet they are. So if you flush your toilets and its so loud you can hear it refill from across the house then that might be a good reason to spend the money on a newer quiet fill valve.
@@thediygrunt appreciate the information!
Those stiff fixed lines often break when you try to move them. Why not make another video where you show how to replace the fixed supply line with a flexible line?
I got it on but it takes a long time for the water to fill back up, do I need to take it off again?
The first time it refills it will take some time because its filling the entire tank. If it is slow to refill after that than double check to make sure you opened the water valve fully.
I followed all instructions but the water level continues to go higher than the water waste pipe.
I made sure that the knob is all the counter clockwise for most minimal water level but it still continues to rise over the pipe and waste alot of water.
I also made sure the flap is completely closed. please help!
Valve has an initial adjustment that is meant to be made before installing it that determines the initial water level in the tank. The base of the valve where the water enters from your water supply line into the bottom of the tank, that part of the base is adjustable by screwing/unscrewing the valve. You said the knob for tank water level is set to the minimal amount but that knob is for making small adjustments so without seeing the issue in person the only thing that comes to mind is the valves height based off its adjustable base is to high. Typically if the valve is that high than the tank lid wont sit correctly on the tank because it will hit the valve. Again without seeing the issue first hand this is the best I can think of off the top of my head. Another possibility is you simply ended up with a bad Fill Valve and its simply defective.
What is the tool being used to remove the valve at 0:34
Channel lock pliers. A wrench or adjustable wrench would be more appropriate in that moment. For me its convenience and laziness, I keep the channel locks with my plumbing tools but the adjustable wrenches are not so half the time I forget to grab them and just use the pliers.
My water line would not remove. It was attached to the thing inside the toilet. I spent 45 minutes trying to get it detached and removed and might have broke it. I was hoping I could replace this but I’m gonna need to call someone
You forgot to adjust that valve on the fill tube. It controls the flow of water into the bowl so it will fill the bowl but not waste too much water.
The toilet system in US look so strange. All our Australian toilets are duel flushing.
In my opinion the US has a bad habit of failing to adapt to new technology or newer and better improvements. I have been all over the world thanks to my time in the military and to me, stuff like Tankless Water Heaters and Bidets on toilets make sense and would be more efficient then the US standard of tanks of hot water and using just toilet paper. So it does not surprise me to hear duel flush is the standard in Australia.
When you turn the water off just flush the toilet it'll save you time and energy instead of holding a bucket over it for it to drain
There will still be water left in the tank after flushing to drain the tank. Typically about a half inch of water is below the flapper and is unable to leave the tank so using a bucket and a sponge to collect all the water remaining will still be necessary.
Hell yeah brother. Made me look magical in the eyes of my woman.
Hell yeah brother! Best comment I have ever gotten on here!
We're doing a video touching a dirty used toilet with no gloves on
The video was very useful but next time leave out the music that was painful.
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Do you mind elaborating? Was it the music volume, choice of song, or do you just prefer videos with no music?
Awesome video man! Gets right into it no fluff! What music? Video is fine man.
@@thediygrunt Musice didn't bother me, at the most I'd say just turn it down a little bit. But I'm fine with it video is helping me plenty
Music, fire, videos, fire
I buy Korky products. Better in my opinion, and made in the USA. America First !
Korky sucks. Made in USA junk. Fluidmaster best
America would sell you to China if it would lower their debt by 100 dollars 💀💀 don't put a country first that wouldn't put you in 369000th
The music is really distracting. Please just give the instructions without the background noise.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know. I've listened to the song again, and I can see how it takes away from the video. I've deleted it so it won't be used in future videos.
@@thediygrunt see this why you real asl big bro. Posted a short, very educational video with no filler, offered good advice and when offered (kinda pointless) constructive criticism of your video; you went back and rewatched the video and instead of getting defensive you heard bro out, agreed, and made the changes suggested. Thank you for the video and thank you for bein a real mf 🤝
@@thediygrunt There is nothing wrong with the song itself. It's just loud. If you adjust the music way down to where it's barely audible, it can add a nice subtle backdrop without being distracting. But you can't please everyone. This video is fantastic. Thanks so much for making it!
@@thediygrunt nothing wrong with the music, thanks for the video
No it’s not. Stop complaining
Music is annoying- couldn’t watch.
