This video changed my life. I was unemployed, unhealthy, and alone. Then I watched this video and my life was transformed forever. Now I'm the CEO of a successful company, I have a six pack, I'm happily married, and have two healthy sons. Thank you Guy of All Trades for the amazing video!!!
Haha this comment wins!
😂
Crazy
I need abs
You are truly flushed with success.
No plumber is showing up for $50 - $100 near me! This video is saving people $200 easy in my neighborhood.
That’s definitely a true statement. I keep seeing 150 to change this valve. Crazy and super easy to DIY
@@theguyofalltrades I dropped a deuce, changed my mother in law’s valve and started a load of laundry in between these two comments.
🤣
Nearer to $400.
Thanks a million for your video. I am a female who just retired and love learning to do my own minor home repairs. I did this repair - now saved money for more traveling.
That’s wonderful to hear. Glad I could help!
That was the best recommendation I could read. I'm also a woman who is retired, doesn't understand plumbing, and doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg to replace a stupid valve. I'm proud of all the major things I've done in this place. You've given me the courage to try it myself. Enjoy your travels!
There was a trembling noise coming behind the wall from some pipes where the toilet is at. I called the plumber who came to see it and told me it was more likely the fill valve. He was going to charge me $175 to change it but I told him I was going to do it myself.
I followed your instructions and changed it in 20 mins or less. Super easy instructions on how to change the fill valve. Thank you so much sir. I appreciate it very much!!!
Love comments like these!
@@theguyofalltrades How do we have to tighten the bottom plastic nut that holds the valve inside? Is it hand tight or do we have to use a tool?
Adjustable wrench or channel locks
This is gonna sound so dumb, but I’m not usually a “handy” person but replacing this valve gave me a new found self confidence haha. Thank you so much for this walkthrough!
Haha welcome
Dennis, Guy of all trades🤩- thank you for this video/instructions. My toilet was leaking from the bottom of the tank at the seal from the flush valve which is pretty old and the water line too. Made me nervous to see all the water leaking😬 I am a woman on my own and wasn’t sure I could handle this job myself but, thanks to your video and demonstration I gained the courage to replace the flush valve, flapper and even the waterline 🎉I DID IT! 💥I’m feeling a bit proud of myself and just have to Thank you so much!
I like to read comments like these! I’m glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Hi Dennis,
You did a nice job with this how-to video. One thing I'd add is that, before locking it in place, you want to adjust the fill valve by loosening the lock ring and turning the lower shank accordingly, so that the top of the fill valve is 3" above the overflow pipe. This will automatically put the C.L. (Critical Level) mark on the fill valve 1" above the top of the overflow pipe. This is so that the "Universal Plumbing Code" is met. Ideally, you want to adjust the Float Cup with the fine-tune screw so that the water level reaches approximately 1/2" below the top of the overflow pipe, after flushing. Lastly, I would recommend purchasing a kit that includes the flapper valve as well, as this only add a few dollars to the cost, and then both pieces of hardware are replaced together.
I have a newer video that actually goes over all those steps but thanks for pointing out
Very glad I found your video sir. I changed my fill valve in 30 minutes with no issues because of this video. Thanks a million!
You’re very welcome. Glad it helped. Thanks for watching !
Eyy thanks for this. My dad hate's plumbing so I'm the daughter who went Thanos and said "Fine... I'll do it myself" and waw this tutorial was my guiding light! Keep up the great work!
Welcome
Thank you for the refresher on how to do this! I’ve done it many times, but not for quite a few years. You made it so I don’t have to “tinker”, but can do it more quickly. Thank you!
Very welcome
Thank you for making this video. I was about to give up after viewing other vids. Yours made the process simple. I changed my first fill valve and am super proud. Keep up the good work!

Just great , thank you for showing me what to do and encouraging me, no tell me "you can do this'.
I bout the part for nine bucks and installed it in about 15 minutes. Family is happy to have a working toilet now with water tank fill up recovery in about a minute.

Thank you! I do have a video for replacing the flapper. Search on my channel
Thank you so much for this video! It’s a pretty cut a dry process, but wiping around where the seal goes and knowing where that clip went helped me a ton! Appreciate you walking me through it! Now my toilet is filling quick and effortless!
Welcome! Great to hear!
What a great diy video that was easily explained so that someone like me could do it instead of hiring some plumber who would have charged anywhere from 100-200 dollars.
Thanks for the kind words
THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUY OF ALL TRADE, FOR THE EXCELLENT WAY TO INSTALL A FILL VALVE! AND SHOWING QUICH & EASY WAY. IT'S SO HELPFUL!

This was very helpful. Thanks to your video, I literally got this done in under 20 mins. Not including the trip to Home Depot to buy the replacement part.👍🏾👌🏾💪🏾

Thank you! It’s a balance keeping the content detailed but short enough where it’s not boring lol

Thanks for watching!
I ain’t skeerd to do this no more tanks! you explained every step clearly I feel confident.
Very welcome. I have another video that shows in detail how to adjust the flapper and level if you need it
Thanks for this excellent instruction. I didn't have any trouble installing a new fill valve, but getting the lug off of the old valve took an hour because it was stuck good and the water valve was in difficult area to access.
Welcome. Glad it helped!
My current problem. Struggling so much
I'm having that same problem. My toilet is way close to the corner and I have huge hands. So its already in a horrible spot and to top it that lug just won't give.
@@heckzotica The awkward angles I required to remove the (S)lugs would make Houdini blush. Two hours of complete angst.

THANK YOU! for showing how to set the fill line level.

Thank you sir, so much for this tutorial. As a single/divorced woman, there are some things I now have to do alone and I don't want to always have to call someone in and pay extra for what I could possibly do myself. 🙏🏼😊
Welcome!
@@theguyofalltrades now I need a tutorial for stopping the leak on that silver drain pipe under the bottom. 🙁 Please and thank you 🙏🏼
The water line? Where the shutoff valve is?
@@theguyofalltrades YES! If you already have that tutorial up, I can't find it, but I need it. 🙏🏼 Please and thank you!
Is the valve screwed onto the pipe or soldered?
Thank you soo much for this video! This was my first time doing something like this and I was a bit nervous. But it turned out great! I just had a small glitch but I conquered it!! Thanks Again!!

Mannnn thank you...this plumber was going to charge me $775 for labor and supplies
Thanks for watching!
Rip offing scumbag 😠
Seriously?
A ripoff guy scammer! WoW 😮
This ridiculous
About to replace mine, thank you for your video
Welcome
Didn't need to replace it... apparently the underneath of the pink flapper has a dial with numbers 1,2,3,4,5 which come with a hole the smaller the number the smaller the hole, the bigger the number the bigger the hole...mine was on 4, so I head to switch it to five and it solved the entire issue... basically each holes allows the pink flapper to fill up with water in order for it to close up the correct way and prevent water from running continuesly.👍🏼
Yessir. I’m actually working on a video about common fixes for toilets too. Having a flapper chain too loose will cause that same issue
@@theguyofalltrades you know what your right... once i fixed it i notice that the chain is close to the pink flapper, so what i did was to flush it multiple times to see if it get caught underneath the flapper, and so far it hasn't done it,...but if it does start to I'll be sure to decrease the chain so to prevent it from occurring... once again thank you for your video. 👍🏼🤜🏼🤛🏼
Welcome!
Great video
Thank you
Welcome. Thanks for watching
thank u for making it so easy. i was done in 10mins🥳
Welcome!
I was thinking of calling a plumber but thank God I didn’t and that I found this video. I spend $18 and didn’t myself. Thank you and God bless you 🙏🏽
Welcome. Glad I could help
Thank you for posting this video! I have theee toilets and only one is working but in it’s last leg because of the old fill valves. Crossing my fingers I can do this 🤞🏼
Welcome. It’s pretty straightforward.
@@theguyofalltrades I have an unrelated question. My bathtub fill spigot broke off kinda inside/behind the fiberglass shower wall. How does that get fixed? Plumber?
Unless your comfortable soldering pipes. Could also be a pipe that rotted at the threads. Either way you would need access to behind the wall if it broke off in there
@@theguyofalltrades it’s a plastic pipe. My house is 30 years old. Sounds like a professional job to me. Thank you for answering me. I appreciate it. Enjoy your weekend 👍🏼
Thank you for the great lesson :)
Welcome! If you’re interested in some more detail I have a couple other videos including setting the water level and replacing the flapper.

Thanks you as well!
Omg thank u I’m going to do this now
Welcome!
Hose was worn out and bracket was gone video was very helpful thank you very much
Very welcome
Omg this video is great, working on my mom's toilet that must be older than this one bc they didn't use a tube to connect the water valve and the grey plastic piece they used to connect the two is shredded and won't turn 😢 it just spins so I'm going to have to cut that to free up the white one above it 🥵thanks for the video and now I know how they screwed. It up but how to fix it😊
Sorry I cut out that they put a straight skinny metal pipe instead or a hose on this thing 😅
Welcome and glad I could help. Yeah I’ve seen both metal and plastic supply lines instead of the braided hose. I prefer the hose because it’s easier to connect and you don’t have to trim it.
This viedo was shorrt and straight to the point. Thabk you so very much.
Thanks! I’m actually working on a newer version right now. This was one of my very first videos and the quality isn’t as great as my newer stuff.
