This is the clearest video on how to replace the flush valve and his voice is very calming and relaxing.
Wow, thanks!
Agreed!
Excellent presentation. Any fear of doing this myself have been flushed away.
Was that a pun ? Lol
Well stated!
😂
Puns. The top tier of comedy. 😂
As an educator, I appreciate how you went through the process step-by-step and provided clear explanations of each step. Great info, thanks!
Hi Mr Wakefield, I was so pleased to come across your RUclips segment on how to fix a running toilet! I'm an Aussie lady currently in lockdown due to the Covid virus and couldn't get a plumber to fix the toilet which was running all the time, the only time it didn't was when I turned off the water intake tap so I wasn't wasting water. Being in my 60's now and recently divorced I no longer have my husband to do all the plumbing (!!) so I decided to do some research and fix it myself. And while I was looking on the internet I found your piece! Fifteen minutes after watching, my toilet problem was fixed! So I saved myself a lot of money calling out a plumber and now I feel so self-confident because I did it myself! Thank you so much!
I love the cut away toilet tank. Makes it so easy to see what’s going on
Excellent - the tank cutaway makes a crystal-clear presentation. Even though I "thought" I knew how to tackle this project, it's always smart to check first. And this video is a winner. Thanks, Mr. Wakefield.
This is so helpful! My dad was a plumber and would normally help me out with all these kinds of things but he passed away last year so I'm trying to navigate these household things myself! He'd be proud that I'm doing it on my own- I appreciate these videos! Off to Lowe's I go!
Breann Fredrickson I'm proud that you are doing it as I am sure that your dad is too. I wish I could get my grand-daughters to take up plumbing. What do you do for a living?
@@RogerWakefield I now have a leak coming from the seal, I think. Water is off and I'll be taking a closer look again later today! I work as a contracts & assignments specialist at a university- I help all of our incoming students secure housing!
This video was 5 years ago but it still helps people. It helped me. I just lifted the flush valve and clean around it. It stopped the leak. Thank you Mr. Wakefield.
We've been paying $100 more than average bill. The water company sent a reminder that we might have leaks and to check everything.
Good on the water company for giving a heads up!
Great job
I am a woman in my 60's and I changed out everything in my bowl thanks to your step by step guidance. You are a God sent! Thanks!
This is the absolutely best plumbing explanation I've ever seen. You are a great teacher. I feel very prepared to take on this project! Subscribed!
Good value. Clear succinct and to the point. 80% of the diy video on RUclips should be looking at this video as a benchmark. From one trainer/instructor to another, well done, take a bow.
Thank you Mr. Wakefield for your clear explanation and good demonstration.
Your instructions are clear, and concise. Very easy to follow! Thank you for the video.
Well done! You made it easy to follow. I'm glad I bumped into this video before I started the rebuild on mine. I'll be following this channel for all my plumbing repairs.
Thanks for the videos Roger and easy to understand instructions. My tank has 3 bolts instead of 2 and when the flush valve was turned all the way it was difficult to screw in the 3rd bolt. I resolved this by rotating the flush valve back. Also my bolt replacements came with rubber tapered washers for 2 per bolt along with a metal washer. Took a couple tries to realize I only needed the rubber washers inside the tank and not on both sides. The metal washers I used for the 3 nuts to avoid cracking the porcelain. Because my original bolts and nuts had fused together (replaced with brass plated hardware), it took about 2 hours to saw them off with a metal hacksaw and round handle since this was the only way to access the bolts. As an Information Technology Manager and professional trainer, your video seemed to only handle the "happy path" under ideal conditions and didn't address older or less optimal edge cases. Still Roger , I appreciated your presentation and have subscribed to your channel. Like computer software, you also need to account for the exceptions, and I'd also be interested to know exactly how the fill valve works internally to shut off the water. Seems like the float is restricted to a certain level that somehow stops the flow of water coming into the toilet. Then again that the way geeks are we want to know how everything works.
As a 42 year old man I say this without a hint of sarcasm: Thanks, dad.
Thnx a lot.😊
Great video Roger. The cut out display makes it easy to follow what you're doing. You have a mellow, plainspoken style that's also really engaging. Nicely done!
Roger knows his stuff. and he is brisk and to the point, no lollygagging. Thank you.
Mr. Wakefield, this how-to video should be the textbook material for all entry level DYI enthusiasts! You ARE great! Very methodical and yet easy to understand 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Great instruction!!! Done in 20 minutes. No mess.
very helpful. Clear step by step demonstration. Thank you!
Hey Roger! I knew I needed to put in a new flush valve, and your video was the perfect prep instruction to know what to do - thank you!
That was good information. A quality, easy to view, well explained instructional video. Most videos relating to toilet leak repairs are about flapper valve or fill valve replacements. Thanks for going into the repairs a little deeper, with detailed, step by step instructions on this particular job.
having a lot of fun with an old toilet, American standard. couldn't just replace the flapper valve since it was made such that it wouldn't come off, tried looking for replacement parts on company site but they didn't carry any for older models, bought a full replacement kit from a hardware store, said compatible with 99% of toilets, figured id give it a shot. the gasket didn't fit the bowl opening. so next i tried putting the old gasket on the fitting, that also isn't working so far, will try some more once my brothers able to help me. just frustrating how company's non-standardize their parts because they don't want you to replace the small components, they want you to have to buy a whole new toilet. still hoping i can make this work but this is just repairs around the house as usual, always having to pull an improvised 'fix' to make stuff work.
Thank you Roger! Your videos make it easy for a single girl such as myself to feel empowered enough to try these repairs. I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and explain every step to us lay people!
Thank you for the clear instructions! I followed this video to replace flush valve and stopped the toilet leak! Thank you!
Glad it helped
Great instructions. You made it seem less intimidating. I took your advice and replaced both the flush valve and the fill valve - was glad I did! Easy peasy!
Your videos are helping my transition from a new construction plumber to a residential service plumber. Thanks for these
You're a really good teacher. I was nervous to attempt this by myself, but I just finished after following your procedure and it worked like a charm. Kudos!
Just replaced all the parts within my tank, now it’s flushing perfectly. Thanks Roger, and subscribed.
Thank you, I go to you first for my plumbing needs and you did not disappoint!! This was so much less intimidating than I imagined and was a lot quicker than I though. No leaks!!!
Really enjoy your how-to videos and the plain ol’ down-to-earth way that you explain everything! You have saved me hundreds of dollars in not having to pay someone to come in and do it for me! Thank you and God Bless you, sir!
Thank you for this! It was clear, concise, and well shot. It helped me replace my flush valve with zero hassle and gave me the confidence that I knew what I was doing!
Didn't think I could do this myself, managed fine thanks to this. Removing cistern was a pain due to rusted bolts, after that all smoothly, even with both left hands 😅
Thank you for the clear and succinct video, shows the details of what isn't too complicated of a job. I probably spent more time getting tools from the shed then working on it. Then dealing with a completely rotted and stuck tank to bowl bolt. Ground the head off from the inside and made that much easy!
Saving this video. I was about to call someone to change out mine BUT you just saved me 100's of dollars. Doing this today. Thank you so much
This is the exact video I was searching for. Absolutely excellent. Thanks
Awesome video. Already replaced fill valve.. Now the flush valve
Great video! My husband and I followed all your steps and our toilet works great! Thank you so much for your video!
Great video. Thanks for going thru all the steps. You make it look pretty easy...and I guess it really isn't that hard after seeing this great explanation.
Yes I have replaced all of vales flapper but didn't know about taking apart the valve in flushing fantastic great tips thank you doing what you doing Rodger Mahony
Used this video twice now on two different flush valves. Clearest explanation and visuals out there. Thank you and bravo.
Just changed float valve following Roger's great video and all went well. Couldn't have done it right without you. Thanks!!
Super helpful, especially with the cutaway, which is a great way to show what’s going on. Thank you for getting me through this fairly difficult (for me, a beginner) project.
Thank you Roger. As a DIY sort, these instructional videos are both welcome and priceless. I've learned a lot and expect smooth sailing from here on. Thank you again.
Thank you for making this easy and thorough. The cut out back of the toilet makes this the best tutorial on RUclips. Thank you, sir.
9:18 minute video turned into a 4 hour event because of a rusted wing nut on the bottom side of the tank. Video was super helpful and job was finished. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I had to fight with my tank bolts for a bit but I got it done! This video helped me a lot!
great videos!! These are super helpful, thank you for posting this
Thank you, sprung a leak this morning, found its all bad except the refill...off to lowes, damn!!!
very , very well done....you are a clear, and concise, well spoken teacher!
Fantastic video, I’ve changed out many flush kits but never a valve, I broke one of the tips that holds the flapper so I had to change the valve, this made it super easy, thanks
Thank you for taking time to video and post this! You were very thorough, which I greatly appreciate - super helpful!
Going into my 3rd year as a plumbing apprentice, all I've done is the commercial side & I'm lacking in the residential aspect. Thank you for putting all this info up for us
Wow thanks for this video, man. Once I saw how easy it was to take off the tank I'm so on board.
Best toilet repair video I have seen so far!!!!! Thanks!!!!
You're welcome!
Great video! I just finished replacing the flush valve using the tips you gave, and while I was at it replaced the fill valve too.
Hi Mr. Wakefield! Thank you so much for making this video, this is exactly what I needed to fix my running toilet.
Excellent! You're the man!
I appreciate this video. Very helpful. I just replaced my office toilet parts that were 25-30 years old.
Wow! Thanks so much for this lesson. I foolishly thought that I could change the flush valve without taking the tank off. Now I know better!
Thank you so much. Saved me time and money! Great instructional video, hope to see more
Roger, I agree with the multitude, here, and applaud your excellent training vid. I do have one suggestion: Do a similar vid USING AN OLD TOILET. l venture to say most of us do not have a clean demonstration toilet that we're working on. Teach viewers how to deal with the realities of rusted nuts, bolts, deteriorated components, etc... This is what most of us will find when we make a repair. It would be great to see how a true pro deals with these challenges. Many thanks.
Thank you so much I just bought a flush valve and watching this video helped me out a lot 👍
Quite helpful--very nicely done!
Replaced my flush and fill valves with your videos! Thank you so much!
Fantastic!! Your presentation style is superb! Thanks so much!
Very clear and simple instructions. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Just fixed a major leak in my toilet thanks to you never touched any plumbing in my life. Did it in about 30 minutes!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INSTRUCTION VIDEO. GREAT JOB IN EXPLAINING IT
Thank you for this video.
Thank you. You did a great job explaining this and saved me a plumbing bill.
Thank you very much Roger!!! I couldn't believe it but I've found piece of plastic in our flushing valve and it's working perfectly now!!! Thank you again!!!
Glad to help.
Thank you for this video !! You have a new subscriber. I learned several things from this video. Mainly I learned: I was actually LQQKING for a video concerning the fill valve - not the flush valve. I now know the difference. 2. If our toilet gets to the point of needing a flush valve, I think it is time to just get a new chair height toilet! Thank you !! 3. You do have videos concerning the toilet fill valve so I will watch them. 4. I now have a RUclips Channel to go to to get information for plumbing issues.
Great video and easily understood. I have a slow leak, probably a tank full every 2-3 days. Replaced the flapper and cleaned surface of the flush valve but still an issue. Next step is to replace the whole piece. Probably due for it anyways as it has been 10-12 years.
Thank you for the succinct education. The toilet in my apartment had parts that were so old and rusted that I had to saw everything off, but the replacement was easy and I knew what I was doing thanks to this video.
Great demonstration!
You explained it perfectly. Thanks from the handy woman.
Great video. Easy to follow. Worked well for me. Thanks,
Thumbs up for the great DIY video!
Great Tip re: 1/4 turn of the main nut after hand tightening! I was overtightening it, which caused some distortion and continued leaking. I re-installed it with the 1/4 turn, and it worked great. Thank You!
Thank you. Visual presentation is key in learning any trade, especially with good teacher like you.
For anyone who doesn't have gigantic channel-locks, I used an oil filter wrench and it worked great. Fantastic how-to video!
Thanks for the help, you were very clear, concise and thorough.
As a 57 year old widow, i appreciate your video. I fixed my toilet myself all because of you!
Glad I could help
Super helpful and very easy to do. Thanks for the video
Best repair vid I've seen in a loooooong time. T
hanks!
Thank you so much for the instructional video!! I was able to fix my running toilet.
Very nicely done, have done this before, but your easy to follow information helped me remember the steps!
Thank you so much. I don't know how much money I just saved following your directions but I am sure it was a lot. And I sure appreciate this video.
The right tools and a little know-how makes all the difference.
The biggest concern I have is water deposits "cementing" the nuts to bolts and damaging the hardware or porcelain while trying to loosen them.
Great video, I did this once before along time ago so video was a great refresher course, excellent way of showing the how to with toilet back cut off.
Thank you fpr being thorough and complete with this instructional video. I changed the flush valve myself, this morning. The step-by-step instructions are very helpful. I can call the plumber in the morning to cancel my afternoon appointment. Thank you. You saved me money, and I accomplished something that makes me feel manly.
Thank you. That’s why I do what I do. What was your favorite part? You
This is perfect instruction..especially for a non plumber. I have been waiting for my husband to attempt to fix our downstairs toilet since we had our well pump replaced. I use this bathroom mainly, but for whatever reason has not functioned properly since the well pump replacement, almost 8 months ago & I am tired of turning the water valve off after each flush. Since, it won't fix itself & my husband, "Will get to it"later than sooner- I am tackling this feat. It wants to continuously run after the tank is full...I felt around the seal...wiped it out multiple times thinking a piece of sediment has caused it not to seal. I have disassembled the flapper..still no success. I am going to replace the flapper to start..& take it from there. Thank you for sharing this easy instruction video.....from the done nagging to do it myself wife.
Great video. Professional but easy to follow. Thanks
Doing all this now and so far it’s going smoothly
Thanks duder
Best explanation I've found. You actually go step by step while explaining and showing what your doing. Appreciate it. Feel more comfortable changing my Flush valave
It really is quite easy once you start getting familiar with it
You're a hero man. In this hard recession, we're looking to find ways to DIY in order to avoid tough costs. I'm in Florida which makes this video a blessed convenience, but in Texas, people like me with a toilet running every 5 minutes should thank their lucky stars.
Nice! Gonna work on this tonight and become my wife’s hero! Thank you for the vid
Good luck! 🦸♂️
Great video Roger, very helpful, thank you!
I just wanna thank you Rodger for your videos! I’ve been a plumber for 25 years and every once in awhile you teach me something I don’t know! I know this one tho!
Well I'm glad I can teach you every now and again!
Excellent instructions and visual aid. Thank you so much.
