I really appreciate this type of video- step by step may seem like review for a lot of us but you never know who needs it. Back to basics is great! Keep up the great content!
He's very clear and thorough. Great explanation to newbies. Yes, change out supply line for sure, mine leaked and flooded the bathroom and spare rooms. Luckily, got the shop vac in time to suck up all the water. If I wasn't home to turn off the valve, would've flooded the entire house.
I almost skipped this video but even though I've done this job several times myself, I learned quite a bit. Thanks! Something to watch out for though - both my toilets had shutoff valves that failed this year. There are some good videos on how to deal with that problem. And always make sure you know where the house water shutdown is before you start - in case something goes wrong.
Awesome comprehensive video! I had to replace my inlet valve 2 wks ago because the rubber seal was worn through and I couldn't find a replacement seal. Wish I knew about the funny noise it made before it stopped flushing completely (on a Saturday afternoon after all the shops had closed, please note!) Our area has bad water pressure, so I didn't suspect the problem was with the valve seal or even the toilet altogether. Now I know and will be better prepared next time by listening for the noise! Be blessed!
I learned it the hard way (trial and error). This is good info for DIYer wanna be (didn't mean it in a bad way). It's always intimidating when you do it the 1st time even on the simplest project. After walking my sister thru the flapper replacement process, she was so proud that she did it all by herself. Took about 15 minutes on the phone explaining but it beats hiring a person to do during the peak of a pandemic.
Super job guys and this really helps. I missed a step one time and the plumber came out to adjust the water level and said all is well, he did it right just had wrong water level, this covers it all now really appreciate you all.
I remember this used to be like a 3 hour project for me 😭 Recently replaced one in about 5 minutes. Stick with it, practice makes better! Great detailed guide!
I seem to always learn something new when I watch your videos, even when it's something that I thought I knew. Easily one of my favorite channels. Thank you Ethan.
Never knew flappers were adjustable! My toilet requires I hold the flush lever down for something like 5 seconds in order to fully flush. I'll have to try adjusting or possibly replacing. Thanks for the great video!
This video was in perfect timing for me. I have a fill valve replacement part that I have been waiting the last couple of days to put in until I could watch some videos and be sure what I was getting into… well, got what I needed delivered to me through subscribing to your channel. Thank you! 😅
I learned some things I didn’t know from this video. I have successfully replaced about a dozen of those over my life but I think the next time will be faster and more sure. Thanks.
Really like this video. Worth noting that the valve seal mentioned as a possible cause for that hissing sound can be replaced far more cheaply than replacing the entire fill valve. It’s also important to ensure the top of the fill valve doesn’t extend too high above the hole for the flush handle or you could get water rising to that level and creating a leak.
Great video. Would love to see a vid on replacing the wax seal on a toilet. I recently had to do this and used a modern rubber/plastic replacement instead of wax. Seems to work much better.
Great video. It has almost everything except for testing/replacing the main tank gasket which is what I was actually looking for. But it is really helpful.
Great video, I have made this repairs at home and there a lot of things I didn’t know, unfortunately in my new home I have one of those toilets with a central button Instead of a flapper, and It’s not as straight forward as the flapper one, it would be great to see a video explaining the button system. great video learned a lot, thanks
Thank you SO much for this video! I have two Sterling toilets that I needed to change flappers on, and I simply could not get the length right, nor figure out which of the three holes to put the chain in. On one of them, the water was filling up to the top of the overflow pipe, so I turned the fill valve counterclockwise to try to lower it, but it didn't change. And what's worse, the water started running constantly even after the fill valve rose up. So now I've turned the water off and I'm going to replace the fill valve. And if that doesn't work, I'm calling a plumber. I hate to do that, but these things are giving me fits!
Hey Ethan! Thanks for a super informative video for DIY/homeowners! (I was worried when the toilet was being flushed.....missed the part showing what happened after the "water solidifier" was added. Did that add convenience if the toilet had to be removed, but the "solid water" is easily flushable?)
Great video! You briefly discussed the whistling sound early in the video. Could you give some advice on that? I replaced the valve at my daughter's house, but she continues to get the whistling sound with the new valve. Thanks.
We have replaced toilets and toilet parts so many times over the years! Yet the plumbing in my grandparents house stayed untouched for the 45 years they lived there. Strange.
🤗👍THANKS ETHAN AND BRENT…FOR SHOWING HOW TO DO IT RIGHT and the advance’s in parts , making the job MUCH easier, and I have experienced personally 😢many times in the past 😂💚💚💚
it's pink! nice tip..time to get a new seal ring which i've done in the past but this time it was making a squealing noise..so it's probably only slightly running.
I think I am going to load this on my Phone and then share it to my Landlord! one of the toilets { above or below} has a flapper leak issue and on occasion runs. He might get the hint or not, BUT I learned and am keeping this in my save file! {I have not been able to purchase a book yet, funds are a bit snug right now, but I did mention it to my (adult) kids I wanted a children's book for Christmas for my birthday!}
Great video, when you cut the black rubber tubing to size, did you use your Leathermans? If so, the previous pair you linked in the description doesn't have wire cutters but the Leatherman 832531 does.
Replaced them numerous times over the years, didn’t use any dye tabs just powdered kool-aid. A lot of toilets still use the hollow ball on an arm fill valve and can be trickier to adjust be cause it can’t touch the sides of the tank as well as adjusting its fill level.
This is a great video, but unless if I missed it, I didn't see the master plumber demonstrating to check the flapper compartment to make sure it's clean before installing the replacement flapper. If there is dirt on the rim of the flapper compartment the flapper will not operate correctly.
I've done repairs on my toilets for years and have never noticed that aperture setting on the flapper. is this a relatively new feature? Maybe I've just been lucky.
You forgot a video on how to replace the Flush Valve. I believe you have to remove the tank in order to untighten the nut. One thing I really hate is that sponge gasket that you use to connect the tank to the lower half. That is a *&$# to seat and I hate to use too much pressure thinking that I will crack the porcelain. Any tips?
Recently in town visiting my dad and replaced all the, “guts” in his toilet so I had to remove the tank. All went well until it came time to tighten the tank to the base. I could not get the water to stop leaking through the three mounting bolts. Basically I was concerned that I was going to overtighten and crack the base. I was also suspicious of the washers in that I felt that they would never provide a good seal. Long story short, I paid a plumber 250.00 to fix a leak. I’ll look and see what he replaced the next time in town. It will be great if you do a video before I go home again so I can see what my mistake was.
I find it easier to remove the tank from the toilet. Putting in the fill and flush valve is much easier on a bench than being bent over and on your hands and knees leaning over the bowl. You can replace the tank seal as well which will be just like the flapper and supply hose seals - worn and corroded. Then you have a completely rebuilt toilet.
Inane maximalist fix (save house renovation) with no explanation of seal disc wear and no replacement which would match that Fluidmaster print matter (or where you'd leave that lol.)
Ah, yes. No doubt about that. He is the better talker. p Anyhows, lets do this and I hope to see how we plan to stop the old school round float valve from rtunning, without running my wallet thin. Otherwrds we'll need to bring n the women as they know how tpos, idk bout this AI takeova.

Excellent work gentlemen. Thank you for teaching this.
Thank you, Stans!!
Probably one of my favorite videos that I've watched of yours in quite a while. I love the in-depth learning aspect seen here. Thank you!
Thanks, Jake! I like doing these longer form ones where I can let the team-up pro talk for a while 🙂
You make really well made videos. Very informative yet to the point at the same time. Great use of this platform.

Same. Not complicated at all, but can take a little bit to figure it out on your own the first time.

I'm a new homeowner, and boy, did I learn a lot!
Thank you for the video.

Great detailed guide!
Thank you! Brent could definitely replace one in 5 minutes…me not so much 😂
I'll be dead by then !
I seem to always learn something new when I watch your videos, even when it's something that I thought I knew. Easily one of my favorite channels. Thank you Ethan.
As usual great information delivered by you and your colleagues. I thought that I know enough but your video provided a lot more knowledge.

Great vid! Next step vid would be how to replace the wax O-ring of a toilet. Thanks!
We’ll work our way down, Taco! 😆
Good idea! I need to see if I can do it myself, mine is leaking a bit. (I'm not a plumber)

Thank you for the Detailed, & Informative Video about Toilet Repair. 👨🏿🔧
You’re welcome, W! Thanks for watching 🙂
Awesome video, thanks guys! Got a home job lined up and this will help me immensely
Like these specialist videos. Great job guys.
Oh thank you Ethan, that was very helpful…..take care
Sure thing, Val!

The Honest plumbing show
Great video! You briefly discussed the whistling sound early in the video. Could you give some advice on that? I replaced the valve at my daughter's house, but she continues to get the whistling sound with the new valve. Thanks.
I’ve never seen that setting on the flapper. Getting the chain the right length has always been my hardest part of the process.
Sincerely, thank you both very much for this information!

Thank you for making this tutorial video.
Thanks for a very informative video.
Thanks, Larry! 👍
Very well done Ethan. The man knows his stuff. Could use someone with his calibre, honesty & expertise here in Canada.
Thanks, Bill! It’s always a pleasure to film with Brent and ecoplumbers 😄
🤗ACTUALLY HE WOULD BE AN ASSET ANYWHERE 😁💚💚💚
Great video and clear explanations
Should I use some plumbing tape at supply line connection?
Great videos, Ethan! Tell ECO Plumbers we’ll be given ‘em a call if we ever need a plumber - and they come up as far as Delaware Co.! :)
Replaced them numerous times over the years, didn’t use any dye tabs just powdered kool-aid. A lot of toilets still use the hollow ball on an arm fill valve and can be trickier to adjust be cause it can’t touch the sides of the tank as well as adjusting its fill level.

I love this video. Thank-you so much.
If I need to clean the fill tank, is it as simple as draining and scrubbing with soap and water? Should I use bleach? Thanks!
Good stuff as always. Thanks Ethan [and Brent] ;)
what about food colouring instead of tabs
Very informative, thank you!! 🤓
Thanks for watching, Verlene!
Interesting to see how different are toilets insides in USA and Europe.
Very interesting.
The UK, has different systems.
Thank you.
That’s interesting, Ian! I’m curious to see how it works over there now 😄
This video was great thank you
Good vid. Thank you.
@4:49 Huh. I've used so many of those. Never knew there was adjuster on the flapper. I'm sure it was in the instructions that I never read. LOL
Great info, thank you 😉👍
That was realy good, Thank you. RL

The yellow piece on the right keeps disconnecting on itself. How do I secure it on ?
I've done repairs on my toilets for years and have never noticed that aperture setting on the flapper. is this a relatively new feature? Maybe I've just been lucky.
What about the bolts on the tank that rust
I feel like a table to contents with time stamps so I can come back and find the part I need quickly would be really nice.
Very useful

I have never seen a running toilet. Do toilets run 5k, 10k, or maybe a full marathon?
How to fix toilet handle when it’s hard to get off when it stuck
How to fix knob on toilet handle
I have a weird leak from the flapper, I've changed it for different styles and still a little leak that's driving me crazy.
Change the flapper tube also.
@@sterlinghearth3651 Umm gotta do that this weekend, for some reason never thought of it
How to fix handle on the toilet

Had no idea.my flapper was so sensitive 😊!😂
"How'd you spend your Monday night on RUclips?"
"I'd rather not say" 🤣
A easy way to drain the bowl is to use a plunger and rapidly pump it and blow the bowl water down the drain
I got my toilet degree today 😂 no more calling plumbers
I'll take Fluidmaster over Korky products every single time.
Simple, just go catch it
👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
👍
How is the master carpenter giving tips on plumbing? I'm super confused
The pain in the butt is measuring the correct chain length so there's no slop in the toilet handle lol drives me nuts
Ah, yes. No doubt about that. He is the better talker. p Anyhows, lets do this and I hope to see how we plan to stop the old school round float valve from rtunning, without running my wallet thin. Otherwrds we'll need to bring n the women as they know how tpos, idk bout this AI takeova.
Where is your rags. My new wood floor!!!
Exactly!
And hitting the wall with the supply line!
You do not call a Plumber because you cannot do it yourself, you call them for their experience.
Or both
👍👍‼️
Why am I hearing "yeah", "ok", "uh huh", etc while this guy speaks? Is this how classrooms are run now? I had to turnoff and finally just leave.
