THANK YOU!!!!! The American Standard actuator disc took about two minutes to replace. Without this video, I would have ended up having to remove the tank to replace the entire flush valve. You can't even understand how much frustration you saved me.
I literally Identified the toilet flapper I’m working on almost at the start of the video this was actually so informative that I think it will help me at a customers house I’ve been stuck at for a bit
I found I had many problems with the toilet flapper not dropping properly, until I put $1.25 in quarters into the bottom of the rubber flapper. Now the flapper shuts tight every time, no problemo.
1:18 Mine is the original flapper as shown here. It began to leak water. Do you know where I can buy such vintage original flapper? I look at Home Depot and Amazon and cannot find one looks like exactly you just shown. Is it too old to find one? My only option is to replace the whole toilet if I cannot find the original flapper. Thanks.
Thank you for this illustration. I have to get my wife to help me these days with fixing stuff and we think that we need a gasket to resolve the running Big Gulp toilet made by Kohler.
At 3:08 you showed the old American Standard "actuator" model. That's what I'm trying to replace. On all the newer stuff I've looked at in the stores, all of their "ears" are much further apart than my original. Does anyone sell the old models anymore. I'd rather not re-configure everything.
I replaced mine and now the flapper closes too quickly leading to barely a flush. I had no idea just replacing one would, become such a challenging issue.
thank you for the explanation and video. I feel silly now because what happened is my flapper had the circle collar which slides down the flush tube but also the side attachments holes, once I cut off the flush tube circle collar off the flapper and just used the two side attachments holes to hold the flapper everything worked perfectly instantly. I didn’t realize that you either use the side attachments or the flush tube collar but cannot use both.
Very informative. Thank You. Too bad all these companies couldn't agree on a reliable, simple design for a simple task. It's insane how many variations there are. You could get a PhD in flapper tech & make big bucks on the lecture circuit, without actually having to do any plumbing.
New Glacier Bay 1.28GPF toilet, included Fluidmaster 540 flapper drops down too quickly, not enough flush water , Glacier Bay sent me a different UPC flapper, no difference. You can give up and hold handle down for #2 but I plan to buy and install a float to hold flapper open longer. Toilet needs all the flush water it can get, amount in bowl is skimpy, limited by included Fluidmaster flush valve. BTW Fluidmaster 540 set to 10, tried looser and tighter chain, I suspect most 1.28GPF toilets have the same problem.
🤣💜 You say "tollet" just like me. That's the Most gratifying part of this video for me. My friends and family have made fun of me for 20 yrs because I'm the only one. (And we are all native Floridians).
So all those questions are factors in choosing the correct one. The best option is finding the make and model usually stamped inside the back of the tank usually where the water line is. I can't believe how complicated they have made the toilet. Wish they still made the old style toilets that used to pull the chain on the box on the wall to flush!
I am having a heck of a time finding a flapper for my six year old American Standard toilet. On the tank lid it says it takes a P030751000 which American Standard in the great wisdom does not sell anymore unless you purchase the entire flapper assembly. I found one supply place that said a P030750000C is the replacement and on an American Standard site I found it said that a B6048-G-Crn1 was a replacement. The hole in the flapper assembly looks to be 2 7/8 inches. Not sure what I would get to replace it so far. I am up in Canada so shipping one from the US gets stupid expensive. Do you know if a 3 inch flapper assembly hole in other toilets is actually 2 7/8 or are they three inch?
Hi my toilet is Contrac and the flapper part is PB-FLAPPER3-RT-CR. Do you think Kohler 3inch Flapper is suitable? Many thanks if you have time to answer my question.😀
Thanks for your video help regarding flapper valves. My question is with the new style Kohler Canister style. unlike the old rubber valves that would stay open for a short time before it falls closed, what causes the canister to stay open long enough to get a nice amount of water to flush waste? I don't see anything that holds it open. If I don't purposely hold the trip lever handle down and wait for the correct amount of water, it will simply lift up and fall back down quickly, hardly any water gets down. What is going on? Did they design an adjustment for this? Thanks, Rob
This style has limited adjustment available. They make a 1.28gpf and a 1.6gpf option. I yiu have the 1.28 yiu may be able to replace with the 1.6 to get a slightly better flush. Also try adjusting the water level a little higher and still keep below the overflow to help flush
I installed a new Glacier Bay 1.28 , easy install, initially worked great but by the end of the week it was the leaking causing a random fill about every 20-30 minutes. The toilet came with a Fluidmaster fill kit came with a 540 flapper installed. The 540 flapper with the new toilet seems like a hard of piece of plastic with a whimpy nylon gasket and only a half a chance of working. I'm thinking the blue 3" kohler might be exactly what this inexpensive toilet needs to stop leaking ?!?!?!?!?
Question about the aqua blue colored flapper that fits Aquasource and Glacier Bay toilets: If the rubber warps after a little while, why would anyone buy them?I noted that you say that you sell a lot of them, so thats why I ask. TThanks.
Yes I do see them come in warped over time, even shrunk up smaller. Not sure if it's the materials being used or the chemicals they put in the water for treatment.
I'm looking to replace one of these, it looks like the flapper is being sucked into the pipe! Any suggestions for a better flapper than won't get sucked in?
So in your opinion, which 2 inch standard flapper lasts longer? Fluidmaster label says long lasting. Now that Korky changed their materials, is it any sturdier and last longer than Fluidmaster? Thank you!

we paid a premium for a Cadet 3 and Home depot a few short years ago, the flapper is not long sealing perfectly and drips... I ordered a new flapper and it does not fit the tags are too far apart. Apparently the left handed flush model uses a different flapper with those two tags it sits on, are closer together in this model and no stores seem to carry the correct flapper. I contacted American Standard on their website and so far they have not responded after 2 days. This is total B.S. as we thought getting higher quality and paying more meant better. PLus you would think they would make getting the right part not a huge PIA. I should not have to go on a scavanger hunt. I see may others also ran into this issue and have order and bought the flappers for the toilet and discovered they are wrong.
Which one has 2" or more between the mounting ears? I purchased a Fluidmaster #506 and it's only 1-1/2" between the mounting ears and it hits the base of the tube and won't seat.
Well, there are several. It also depends on the hoke opening size the flapper sits on. If you could email me a picture of your toilet, inside the tank and any numbers you may see inside I can usually tell you exactly what ut takes. info@plumbingpartspro.com
the aqua source/glacier bay is the one i need. thing is the one that's on there now is so hard. it doesn't feel soft. not sure how to remove it if i can't easily slide the holes over the little thing they sit on. is this common ? for the plastic to be so rigid? should I try to cut it off with like a wire clipper or something?
