Roger, Thank You! This is the first time I ever attempted to do any kind of toilet repair. I watched a minimum of 6 videos. Your video was, by far, the most detailed and easiest to understand and follow. I won't tell you my age (😅) but I am an "Older" woman on a very limited income. You saved me a lot of $$$$. Again, Thank You for your excellent, easy to follow, video and expert advice, from a grateful viewer!☺️
Thank you!! This is *by far* the best channel out there for anything plumbing related. I’ve watched the other videos a couple times. I’ve managed to find a “will fit” flapper for my discontinued toilet (not easy, but the explanation about model numbers was very helpful!!). I’ve got everything laid out and ready to go. I’ve just rewatched this one to psych myself up!! Here we go….lol
Thank you so much....working to try to fix my toilet RIGHT now. I have never done this before, so I am learning through these videos. Toilet will kick on all throughout the night and day. Crossing fingers I do it right! Thanks for your videos. They are helpful! Wish me luck!
Subscribed a few months ago and watch every new video. So I will ask an expert 2 things. 1 How to get rid of drain flies. Ive cleaned my drains and flushed with hot water, but I still have them coming out every so often. 2. Many articles say that you should flush the drain with boiling water and or a baking soda/vinegar mix. But Ive read that boiling water down a PVC pipe isnt a good idea due to the high temperature.
Excellent video, Roger, but I can't seem to get my flapper off. It looks like the navy blue one you show at 9:14. Mine doesn't have any "hooks" to lift it off the rim, so I tried twisting and lifting. Nothing. I'm afraid to break something. Does removing take more force than it looks in the video? How do you get the navy blue one you have to come off? Thanks.
Roger, Thank you for a very detailed video. How do I know if previous plummers changed the flush valve assembly to a universal or different one to match a flush valve flapper that hangs up?
Thanks for the info. Wondering if there’s a way to determine the length of the ears that are used to attach the flapper. I bought a flapper where the ears were too short and the flapper didn’t cover the opening.
I have the old style black float with the rod. I've screwed back and forth to put more pressure on the valve, but it still slowly runs. Any suggestions? Should I just replace the whole system?
Hey Mr Wakefield, first let me say I'm very impressed by your presentation. I have a question for you: if you were a 38 year old father of 2, with an Associate's in psychology, in great physical shape and were wanting to enter the plumbing field, living in a small town in south GA, how would you do it? You're obviously extremely knowledgeable, came off as the consummate professional, and I can't think of a better person to ask for advice. Thank you, and sorry about the novel.
Thanks for having so many flappers. My flapper however, is not soft and can’t easily be removed from those L ears. My flapper has a hard plastic hole. I’m afraid I might break the ears in order to take it off. Can you please help me? Thank you, it was a good video for what I’ll have to do if I can remove the flapper.
How do you change the whole valve assembly? My toilet has a casket at the bottom of the black tube assembly, that casket is needed to change, how do we remove the whole thing? My toilet is an old one Mansfield 160/162, help? Anyway, thanks for your video here, appreciate you Roger W.
Roger, We've replaced the float, replaced the flapper (with the exact same kind) and the toilet still runs, 3 seconds every 15 to 20 minutes. couldn't feel anything on the rim when we replaced the flapper. any other suggestions?
Hi there. I watched a few of your videos and I’ve got to say, the Orby’s one had me laughing so hard! I need your help. I live in a manufactured home which is a fancy name for a mobile home, and I need to replace the flapper in my master bathroom toilet. My home is probably about 25 years old. I moved in a year and a half ago. I had no idea they are different toilets for mobile homes. The flapper that is in there is a Korky, but it is all mushy and gooey, and I cannot tell the model number or if it’s a 2 or 3 inch flapper. Can you please help me? I can put it on myself if I just knew what I am looking for. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please stay safe and blessings to your family
Well, you agave me a bit of information I haven't heard elsewhere. I replaced the flapper and it's better but still ghostflushes. I'll bet the area below the flapper is not smooth. But now, what do I do about that?
Need to replace the flapper but can’t figure out how to remove, the hooks on the ears are solid hard plastic, I don’t want to break the unit by removing the old flapper.
MY flapper won't stay up. When I flush it, the flapper comes back down right away and closes the hole, preventing water to come in to flush the toilet. What is wring? There is only a bit of slack in the chain. Thank you!
Sometimes it can be difficult to get the flapper ears off the water stem pipe. Simply apply some Vaseline to the arms of the water stem and this makes it a lot more easy to slide the flapper ears off. Once you get the flapper off clean the mold and bacteria off with some warm bleach water and scrubbing pad. Then re connect the flapper to the water stem pipe and it should fix your leaking problem with the toilet. If the flapper is cracked of missing any pieces you will have to replace it. Just a little tip from my experience with water leaks caused by a dirty or broken flapper. 😁
My toilet flapper is bad the toilet keeps on running. I plan on replacing the whole toilet because it has so many other problems. And the toilet is old just my opinion.
No it’s not easy. My Toto flapper has no openings on the ears and I don’t know how to take it out 😢Closed at all square or corners, so do I cut it off.
Roger I appreciate your knowledge and I wish that you have millions of followers because you deserve it. Regards from Vancouver, BC

Thank you! Switched out my flapper! So proud!

Put some Vaseline around the hooks of the water filler stem and it should help the flapper ears to slide right off.
Thank you for this most practical and informative video. I never knew how many different toilet assemblies are available to choose from.
This video helped me out. Great channel
Hell yeah roger your a legend
Thank you! I'm a 58-year-young woman, and with your help, I was able to do this on my own. 😊
This is my very first toilet repair and was able to fix it myself because of your step by step video. Thank you~
Can you tell me how to replace the seal where the flapper sits. Thanks
Thanks for the info
This guy is great!
Great help! Thank you Roger!
Thank you Thank you Thank you. You saved me over $125. I am subscribing immediately 💕
Thank you.
Thank you so appreciate your videos!
Thanks Roger! Great guides.
Roger, Thank you for a very detailed video. How do I know if previous plummers changed the flush valve assembly to a universal or different one to match a flush valve flapper that hangs up?
How do you trouble shoot the flapper not staying up long enough. Or another way to say that, the flapper immediately closes and you get a short flush.
Hi there, how about when the flapper gets stuck and wont close?
Thanks for the info. Wondering if there’s a way to determine the length of the ears that are used to attach the flapper. I bought a flapper where the ears were too short and the flapper didn’t cover the opening.

Nice video! For the built in tank toilets such the American Standard, removing the flush valve is like working on a car. It's a pain in the B...
I bought a new flapper and installed it ok. The old flapper had a cork with it. Is the new flapper ok without the cork ? Thxs
Does the bottom of the flush valve assembly itself ever leak?
It could if it gets worn down or isn't seated all the way

Thank you, I fixed it without any issue
Make sure you have the right shape too! A previous owner of our house got a half moon shape when it supposed to a circle shape.

How do you clean or replace the ring the flapper sits on??
Great
Help the little nubby thing the flapper attaches to broke off whst can i do
I need to change the flapper. Just needed to know what size.
How do you determine the size of a new flapper, if you don't have the old one to measure?
Measure the diameter of the pipe that the water flows down.
How do you change the whole valve assembly? My toilet has a casket at the bottom of the black tube assembly, that casket is needed to change, how do we remove the whole thing? My toilet is an old one Mansfield 160/162, help? Anyway, thanks for your video here, appreciate you Roger W.
Why do I see water back up in the flush valve tube mt toilet doesn’t always flush but sometimes it does I get water condition also on the lid
Roger, We've replaced the float, replaced the flapper (with the exact same kind) and the toilet still runs, 3 seconds every 15 to 20 minutes. couldn't feel anything on the rim when we replaced the flapper. any other suggestions?
My flapper doesn't seem to be removable. It's hard plastic hooking to the arms with no way to slide it off. Do I have to replace the whole thing then?
interesting never seen a system like that I'm used the cistern two-stage siphon valve

I measured the inside diameter and I get 2 1/4 inches and yes my toilet is running, should I go for a 3 inch flapper?

In the next video teach DIY er,s how to change out a canister style flush valve because not every toilet has a flapper valve , good video. Thanks
My flapper stays in the up (open) position where I have to manually push it down to seal and stop water from leaving the tank. What’s the problem?
the chain is too tight on the handle making it stay open...take the clip and lower it on the chain
@@RogerWakefield ; Thanks

Im lost with the cork!
I posted a big water leak on your Reddit!

I discovered today that one of my toilet flappers is not sealing properly because it has become soft.
