Man as a plumber, it's crazy the assortment of things I've fished out of people's toilets. Funny one was a pair of dentures a guy lost a few weeks earlier while throwing up and didn't realize they came out. He was so happy to see them, he grabbed them from me, with his BARE hands lol. He seemed fully intent on using them again, I'm pretty sure he wasn't thinking about how many times he flushed crap past them😆

Just needs to be soaked in soapy hot water for a day would be fine. I have seen county inmates put food items inside the toilet to keep it fresh.

I was very stumped on figuring out was was causing my toilet not to flush. I used a plunger and a toilet auger with no success. Then I stumbled across something that raised my eyebrow. Towards the end of the video, the toilet was disconnected and flipped over so that's what I did. Toilet was taken outside and turned on its side and to my surprise, I found a small, slender paintbrush and a Jenga block. Toilet was reconnected and Tada 🎉!! A strong flush. All in a day's work at 300am on a Sunday morning. Thank you.

You have me a bit worried. We had a rather large clog. Got the shower drain with minimal plunging, the hand wash bowl wax easy. But the shower drain kept hiding. Eventually we decided there must be multiple routes. I didnt want to plunge where the shower drain went. That and hot water made something loosen up. Wouldn't be a rich plumber i think I did it 3 times and i think something to soften would have been better. Creepy going into the shower afterwards, despite repetitive cleaning but by the end i think there is a free flow.

Great argument for always keeping the toilet lid closed between uses. Makes the chances of accidentally dropping small items in that'll plug up the works far less likely.

Yep and also don’t be like me and have sink holes open with no protection plug for drainage. Those metal or plastic sink plugs with the holes in them work great to stop things going down the sink. My laundry sink didn’t come with one built in and I think a spring from the Tap fell down my sink and it’s been the worst block I have had ever cos I know it’s not just loo roll etc.

    • @flagmichael
      @flagmichael Год назад +1

@@NMW80 We had a blockage in the line between the laundry and the kitchen. I tried a cheapo snake from Harbor Freight but it didn't reach the clog. Then I got some caustic drain cleaner and still no good. Finally a beefier and longer snake from the hardware store broke it free.
Another customer I met at the store enlightened my why the drain cleaner was useless - instead of a greasy blob it was lint and dog hair and sand from clothes that formed the blockage.

the auger worked like a charm.
starting out the auger barely went in a foot or so.
kept on turning it for about 3 minutes; started to see some dissolved paper. kept on turning and that auger went in a little more.
here I started shoving the auger in and out to attack the blockage and then spin some more and the auger went all the way in the whole 3 feet. total 6-7 minutes.
you might feel like giving up after 3 minutes if nothing happens; keep going don't give up cause you have the right tool.😀😀😀😀

Exactly. The stupid loo I have at home won’t flush properly unless you stand there and hold the button down which is annoying but so many times ppl just press it once and walk away and that doesn’t flush good enough. From now on I am legit going to pour buckets of warm soapy water down the loo every few days to give the pipes a good clean cos of my stupid loo just doesn’t flush good enough. Even when ya hold the button down it just won’t flush very well. It’s something the government done to conserve water but it’s just ridiculous and it’s unhygienic to have them buttons on our toilets 🚽

Hey! Thanks so much for this video! The strangest thing we had to pull out of a toilet was a stick (in its plastic container) of deodorant! Maybe most people know this next trick. I don't keep anything sitting on the lid of my toilet. If I flush and the water starts to rise too much, I yank that lid off and push the flapper over its hole. No more water enters the bowl, and there's no overflow mess.

Outside toilets were the norm in the UK until the 1980s. My Dad grew up in a tiny terraced house in a mining village in South Wales during the 'thirties, with no bathroom and only an outside toilet. Imagine having to go out there during the harsh winters!
And his dad, a coal miner, would come home from work literally black and my gran would heat buckets of water on the kitchen hearth (a real fire), and fill a tin bath for him to have an all-over wash in the small room they called the parlour (their living room /lounge, and the only warm room in the house in those pre central heating days).
It's a cliche I know, but kids really don't know their born today - nor do many adults!

That is a nice demonstration of how to unclog the toilet and I have had a problem with one of mine and the only thing being in them was toilet paper and I am the only one using them. I got mine unclogged using the handheld auger and it finally worked after several tries. I thank you for showing all of us how to do this and I wish you and your family a Happy Easter.

Tried many of the techniques suggested by you on your video to fix my clogged toilet nothing seem to help. Until I saw the use of the toilet auger! The tool made the difference. So easy to use and not expensive at all $15.00 at my local Ace. Thanks for helping me resolve this problem.

This was a very well thought-out presentation, that took som fabrication. You are a great teacher! I, very much, appreciate your sharing if the knowledge.
I recently had to go thru the grusome task of unstopping my toilet. I used all the things you showed, except for uprooting it. A friend told me to shove a 1/4" webloop down the throat of the toilet and see of i could lasso whatever it was and pull it out. I had to do it several times, but I pulled out a ping pong ball that had gotten under some toilet paper and was punctured, so it wouldnt float. Add that one to your group of items. THANKS AGAIN FOR POSTING!!!

Great video. By showing us how to just remove the toilet, even though I haven't done it very often, I see that it's just not really that difficult. It takes a bit of time and is a bit messy, but you can really see what's going on in that drain. Encouragement is what I needed, and what your video gives. Thank you for such a clear presentation. God bless you!

I enjoyed your video. This is how DIYers learn from others. I had this problem once. I used my handy-dandy endoscope to 'see' what the problem was. In a few seconds, I saw the problem. Knowing what was causing the problem, it was easy to correct it. This simple device allows me to play 'Superman' and see through walls.

Thanks for the reminder. LOL. I am selling my LAST home in 2 years, retiring and the wife and I are renting and traveling the world, i hotels. 🙂

Do you have any videos on how to keep those bolts from spinning around (and coming loose) on the flange when you go to reinstall the toilet? Or tips on how to avoid breaking an old flange?

Had the same issue with one of my toilets. Used the drain auger and the flush was still weak, but I didn’t use your method of winding the handle a bunch of times. So I took the toilet off the floor and found a 4” barrette lodged in the flange with about six inches of toilet paper all bunched up.
Next time I’ll try your method with the auger. Thanks for the video!

Magic eraser, Tampon applicator and the mystery plastic coffee stir stick. The later would clear and flush fine until you added toilet paper..Had me stumped. Pulled the toilet to find the stir stick stuck in a crease in the ceramic toilet trap.

Great video, when I was in the states I thought that most toilets were normally filled to the brim, then when flushed the trap door would open. I remember staying at a hotel where the trap door never opened and it overflowed, I wondered why the toilet was in a wet room, wow!! a walk-in toilet, no wonder the room cost a little more. We don't see the trap door system here in the UK, only like the one in your video. I just unblocked my toilet with a long flex that I use for pulling a cable down a wall cavity, I fed quite a lot through the u-bend, funny though, I could swear I heard a scream from my next-door neighbour :-)

THIS TIME, I have been struggling to get the toilet unclogged. I took the toilet apart after watching your video and I found a vape pen covered in toilet paper lodged at the seal. smh

Thank you. Yours is the 1st video (on how to use a toilet/closet auger) that explains what the tension on the handle indicates. My closet auger is well and truly stuck so, will follow your instruction on how to remove the toilet. Hopefully the extra 3ft I haven't fed thru yet will afford me the ability to get at the bottom of toilet & resolve the issue. Fingers crossed!
