The DIY Grunt
США
Добавлен 18 дек 2020
Welcome to The DIY Grunt, I’m Nikko!
I was introduced to DIY as a kid, helping my parents remodel our entire house. Growing up as a military brat, this process happened several times. I love the feeling of pride and accomplishment in creating and fixing things without having to hire a professional.
In 2014, I joined the military and served as an Infantryman (affectionately known as a Grunt). After several deployments, I decided it was time to move on and focus on my passion for DIY home and car projects.
I am also a fan of classic Porsches and currently own three of them. I look forward to doing a video series on rebuilding and modifying each of them in the future.
*Disclaimer: I am strictly a DIYer. I am NOT a trained/certified professional. Everything on my channel is based on my own experiences and research. If you feel uncomfortable with a project, please seek a professional in your area for further assistance.

How to Install EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrels
If you ever wanted to collect and store rainwater to use in your yard, well here is an easy way to do it. I’m using rain barrels from EarthMinded to collect rainwater from my downspouts in my backyard. A lot of areas in the country have been experiencing dry spells so having a way to collect rainwater to use is incredibly helpful in keeping plants alive. The state I live in experienced drought-like conditions last year during a hot and extremely dry summer, which led to everything from the grass to the trees dying. If we fail to get rain this summer, I will have water in the rain barrels to use for a little time to help keep the plants and trees watered. These barrels are NOT meant for co...

In this video I will show how to replace a hard wired smoke detector and briefly discuss how to install a battery powered one. This project is very simple and is basically the same as changing a light...
DIY Bar Cabinet Makeover
Просмотров 433Месяц назад
This project has been on the to-do list since we moved into the house. I am finally giving one of the cabinets in the kitchen a makeover and turning it into a Bar Cabinet. For the last two years I have only been able to utilize the bottom third of the cabinet. The shelves had fallen due to the sides of the cabinet bowing outwards and being unable to support the weight of the shelves. I was able...
Empty House Tour of Our New Fixer Upper
Просмотров 3622 месяца назад
I bought the house next door! The house directly next to us came up for sale and we decided to check it out. Turns out the house needs a lot of work done and the owners were looking to sell it without having to do all the required repairs and updates the house desperately needs. So we put in an offer and ended up buying the house. This will be the start of a series of videos focused on updating...

thank you this what I was looking for..❤ hopefully it will keep rodents away
Thank you so much for clear explanations 🙏🙏🙏
The directions for the Hunter fan I purchased were absolutely terrible. Thank you for making the installation directives so clear.
What are people’s thoughts about buffing it before the ceramic coating?
Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for this video.. normally don’t comment but this was what I was looking for.. and after reading the comments I know to add bushings.. “A” video..
Good jobs marine
couldn’t have been more helpful! Thank you 🙏🏼

could you come to my house and mount mine??????? nice!
Thanks for posting the review! Headed to get one of these at HF today! It looks like this mount extends up to 20 5/8" whereas the Amazon Basics one that has great reviews extends less at 16 1/3". I like the extra extension range.
Use fishing line as the "knife" to cut the sealant.
Thank you. Excellent video; we had new capet laid throughout the house and had enough left over to make three runners. We're pleased with the results.
This video is helpful thanks
This was just what I needed I have the exact same deck.
Thanks man.
A total scrap buster! Congratulations!
It is amazing to see how something on the ceiling can update the look of a room!
I think it is gorgeous! Great job!
nicely done
mine turned out not so well. The headlights still feel rough when you move your hand over them. They are definitely brighter and a little bit more clear however you can still see the peeling clearcoat. Maybe I didnt sand enough? Maybe I needed to use a 600 grit sandpaper to get more of the factory coating out so it would be perfectly smooth? Should I repeat all the steps and sand it down completely until i feel that the headlight is perfectly smooth?
I do not remember my headlights feeling rough or anything peeling when I went to do mine so our situations are not quite the same. I did sand for several minutes with the 2000 grit on each headlight before moving on to the 3000. So maybe you just didn't sand long enough. If you want to go rougher than the sand paper the kit provides then I would start by trying a 1500 and working my way down if necessary. I would probably not go below 1000 grit I think anything below that will be to rough. 600 grit will give wood a nice finish but on a surface as smooth as a headlight that could leave visible scratches. I might be wrong but I would use caution and test a small area if you are set on using 600.
I wonder how long the clear coating lasts Thanks
Almost a year and a half since I did it, and it's still looking good. Especially in comparison to how it was before restoration. The car was parked in the garage for a little bit but now is parked outside and has been for a while.
Thanx for the video. I just did this this week. Big differences.. I don't have a 5 bay complex, so it was a jig saw puzzle staging all the removed parts. Just like assembly, I am a 1 man operation, so I had to improvise techniques to be able to do it. 2nd part of teh jig saw puzzle.. loading it all on my trailer.. Next week re-assemble it in my "bigger" pole barn 450 miles away.
I know the feeling of the jig saw. We took it out of this massive warehouse space and transported it 200 miles to assemble it in a 2 car garage with a 9 foot ceiling with only 8 feet of clearance because of a support beam down the middle. The truck was barely able to fit backing up the garage door due to driveway space. We made it work but man it was a tight fit. Definitely miss the huge amount of space we used to have for it. I can't imagine doing it alone that's crazy, be safe man!
@@thediygrunt Crazy, Yeah... Takes me 3-4 times as long as 2 people, but I 'carefully' rig (lift) pretty much everything, took a whole day to unload it, another whole day to get 90% so it is almost done, just have to refill the hydraulic fluid w/ new, install the "lock releases", make the adjustments and roll it to it's new location.. The good news the new pole barn is 2X the size of the old, however the "old" pole barn had a jib crane, that was quite handy. it was a 450 mile trip to get it here, my 15 YO truck just hammered away..
So informative, thanks so much for posting!
Nice work. I would have went with a steel door and door frame, but an intruder probably wouldn't even know that it's a Gun Vault, but just another Closet.
You're a great teacher.
I appreciate that!
Thanks for the tutorial! My toilets been running nonstop and finally just bit the bullet to get a new stopper. Hoping I’ll be able to fix it tmrw when the part gets here!
To much tension on the chain connecting the handle to the flapper can be the cause of that. But if the fill valve is the older style probably just worth doing a full replacement since another part could have failed.
Thank you for this perfect example of the procedure. We installed new carpet recently and used a scrap for a runner, but our 9 month old wants to pull/eat the edges off 😂
I quite literally did this project that weekend because I was tired of yelling at my cats for pulling/eating the edges of the carpets
Sorry, but I don't get it. Have you emptied the whole coolant system before filling a little bit of coolant, as seen at min: 0:34? What is the reason for putting coolant at min: 0:34?
Awesome concise video. Thank you!
Thanks. I had same problem... The bolts holding blades came a little loose so the blade wore the star down that holds it tight to the pulley.... But thanks for showing which side the cutting edge faces I forgot to notice before I pulled blades off!
I remember there was a five blade version of this fan.
What’s more insulting is when they use the downrod, canopy, and mounting bracket from the old fan with the new fan. There is a shoe store near me which has modern day Hunter fans(the ones sold at Home Depot/Lowes) installed on brass Hunter Original downrods/canopies (this tells me that the store at one point had Originals).
I paid a garage to do this and it broke again 2 years later( no abuse). Plastic sucks.
Yeah I'm glad this is not my car, this will clearly be an issue in the future. Major design flaw in my opinion. To much crappy plastic used in modern vehicles.
Thank you. I am Miss fix it today.

Thank you for not sugar coating the project. Great to teach us what mistakes can easily be made and how you solved them. Appreciate your channel (and your service to our country ). Just found you and have now subscribed!
Oorah! Love your channel!
Would be nice to know *what* the project actually was, and might better inform the decision of which one to buy. No need to be mysterious.
Really makes me wonder about the level of self preservation in the people who built the original, staples to hold electrical?! Great build though, I love that you kept the folding doors
Its possible the original owners did it as a "DIY addition". But the electrical in the house is one of the worst wiring jobs I have seen on a home. Like the new apprentice did it all and the boss never even checked.
