As a widow living alone, I often feel scared when property issues/problems happen and I cry. I thank you for your gentle and thorough video lessons. I love you❣ You give me the encouragement I need to exclaim, "I can do it!"
I've been around new construction, remodeling, repairs in all the various skilled trades and knew nothing about this remedy. I'm 70 years old and Leah has just taught an old dog a new trick. 👍🔨
We all need encouragement and reassurance that we can do it. Thank you so much. I hope you are also reassured and encouraged by our gratitude and admiration, Leah.
Leah, thousands of women out here are so very grateful for you. Your soothing voice, and calm demeanor makes most any task achievable. I've been working on this lazy flush for a while now. I believe with patience, and perseverance, I WILL meet success!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. God bless.
Leah, good video. I'd like to offer a bit more information, but first my credential: I spent more than 30 years cleaning sewers and drains. I've cleared untold numbers of plugged toilets. That said, I offer the following: The condition you speak of is called "lazy flush". There are two possible reasons for this: first is clogged jets as you talk about here. The other is a partial obstruction in the waste bend. It's easy to tell which is the actual problem, but first, your video doesn't show a really good lazy flush. You might see the water raise to the rim and swirl slowly around and then slowly drain out. The toilet doesn't overflow, but it looks like it is going to. Here's an easy way to test this. Get a bucket of water and pour it down the bowl. The toilet should take a heavy flow from the bucket. If the water is lazy, then your toilet is partially plugged and it's time for a toilet auger. If the water flows out quickly, then your jets are plugged. Several years ago, before I retired, I came across a lazy flush toilet that was hand painted around the base. I'd never seen one of these. It was from Kohler's "Artisan" line (I think that was the name). The bathtub and two sinks were all painted as a matching set. The customer paid more than $2000 for just the toilet back around 1990. The toilet could not be replaced and it had lazy flush sydrome. I called Kohler for advice as I could not risk damaging the toilet. Their advice was the same yours except that they recommended another product besides vinegar but either one can remove the calcium buildup. Believe it or not, this was the first time in all my years I had ever heard of this method. I hope this helps your viewers determine the problem and then fix it. It's not that difficult. Kudos again on another great video.
My father also an old drain cleaner taught me the bucket trick. Some people just don't understand it though. Even if u show them. That's why they pay us
My father inlaw is 97.. he is my go to regarding all things! Lol He taught us the bucket o water test.. that said... i learned here that we have obstructed jets! Thank you so much. Love see jane drill!
Even though that is something I have applied and used in the past, it's always a pleasure watching your video's. Your demeanor and attitude makes your video's so easy to understand even for someone that has no idea where to begin. Remain blessed Leah and keep the video's coming!
I followed your advice, and my 2 toilets are working like new again! I've had 6 different plumbers, over the years, come into my home and tell me the problem with my toilets were caused by mineral accumulation, and that the only solution was to replace the toilet. NO ONE told me I could dissolve the minerals, until you. I'm happy to have saved thousands of dollars that the plumbers wanted. Instead I did the work myself, and spent about $10 on white vinegar. I'm happy my old toilets are staying out of land fill also. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
In this house 10yrs and never satisfied w/ flush of downstairs toilet. Had it off anyway to have water meter changed which was behind it. This trick worked so well, I couldn't stop flushing it to watch my success, then of course had to christen it (too much information!) To be sure all sediment was gone, also scrubbed each outlet hole with some fine steel wool with the vinegar that had drained into the bowl after removing tape. Amazing what you see placing a mirror in there! Thanks Jane. Love your channel. New sub here after watching numerous episodes. You're doing a fab job!
I believe the DIY plumbing books while tell you to rent an drain auger or climb up on the roof to inspect the vent pipe as diagnostic measures... Don't remember seeing any ground level stuff like this. Thanks again Leah. You're a go-to channel for me.
Great stuff!!! I'm 68 years old and this the 2nd time that I've been "toilet trained". So easy to overlook those jet holes, and even if you regularly use a toilet bowl cleaner formulated for minerals, it only cleans the surface openings, and does not addresses the build up inside of the jet holes when you have hard water.
On mine it was the siphon jets that were plugged. A horrible buildup of lime scale and only one worked on my toilet, so slow flush. Thanks Leah. Your contribution to humanity.
I just subscribed and also sent a screen shot of your channel to my daughter who is about to buy her first house. With crazy prices all they can afford are fixer uppers. Thank you so much.
~ Thank you for this video, Leah! One of my toilets had a very weak flush, and was told I needed a new toilet; my house is over 30 years old. I figured I’d follow your instructions, and give it a try. Since I was going to work on the one toilet, I decided to tackle all three. What a difference! All three are running like new! Thank you again for your awesome videos, Leah! I love your delivery, & how concise yet simple your explanations are. 🙌🏽
I have watched several videos on how to help my toilet. Yours was amazing!!! I just want you to know. With soft tone voice and step to step directions, it gave me the confidence I needed. ❤️ Thank You!
Wow I really needed to see this. For over 5 yrs I've been complaining about my toilet & never had the money to replace it. Now I may not have to. So weird how I ended up here...my 3 yr old wanted to watch a toilet flush several times. 😆 Thank you for these very clear directions 🥰
Wow, I've done so much work on toilets over the years, but never have I done this trick. Thanks Leah! Once again I've learned something new from you. So glad you are back and better.
Hi there as a loan elderly person in the UK with a weakly flushing toilet I found your video clip very, very helpful. Who would have known just clean under the rim? That's all my toilet needed thankfully. But if I had had complications, you would be the one to sort it out. You had the answers bless you and thanks for your help
Thank you, Leah! As I tackled this weak flush, the jets under the rim seemed to be ok. However, when clearing out the little hole in the bottom area, a cloud of debris became to emerge - I’d say about 1/8 of a cup of buildup! Still doing the vinegar treatment & looking forward to a good flush!
Hell yeah!!! I used a tooth brush, then a coat hanger on the syphon jet and broke up chunks of calcium. The toilet flushes like a champ now! Couldn’t have done it without this video. Thanks
I had a father who didn't think girls could do anything except cook, type and take care of babies. It made me determined to prove I could do anything I choose to do. Through RUclips I have changed water pumps, fuel pumps, washer fluid pumps, radiator and other small things on my cars. Took out all the old galvanized pipes in my house and replaced them with Pex pipes. Put in a new laminate tile floor. Repaired porcelain tile grout. Textured my old plaster walls with knockdown texture. Replaced a sump pump. I'm still a girly girl who does this stuff and whines if I break a nail but won't ask for help till I've exhausted every option and ounce of energy proving I CAN DO THIS! And guess what....I can't cook! 😆
Thanks for this post. I have struggled with this problem for weeks. Especially frustrating in a drought where we are trying to save water. I cleaned the jets, removed a blockage I had never even suspected from the siphon jet, and now it works great!! Thanks again for your help.
Great video, Leah. Thanks for also mentioning the siphon jet at the bottom of the bowl. I had problems while you were on hiatus where the bowl would fill and swirl but waste wasn’t really being pushed down the trap. Someone suggested taking a long toothbrush handle or pocket screwdriver and breaking up any lime and calcium deposits blocking the siphon jet hole. Sure enough, after chipping away at an almost total obstruction and removing almost a pound of scale blocking the hole and up inside it, the toilet flushed faster and more powerful than it ever had in almost 40 years without doing the 5 minute swirl and no payoff.
You know, this makes sense using vinegar to dissolve calcium and lime build-up. I've used it before to clean out coffee pots and coffee machines. I never thought about using it on a toilet. Good Job opening my eyes to other uses of vinegar. I'm glad I ran across your video and I can't wait to try it. Thanx 👍🏾
GREAT VIDEO ! I love your "voiceover" voice - you explain everything in a super engaging and friendly fashion! Excellent teacher! I'll be trying this fix this afternoon!
Good tip. I had a similar issue a few years ago and I even removed the toilet and I could find no issues. The problem was on my roof. The venting pipe was blocked with snow and ice on the roof. It was an easy fix but I made it difficult. Again thanks
Leah, God bless you for eternity. After a few mediocre experts who gave me a few absurdities about fixing the slow toilet, I decided to do my own research to discover the easiest and most common sensical remedy and found you. Wow, what a genius and simple solution no 'experts' were capable enough to look at. I did not use vinegar and duct tape, but a small pick and a hammer to gently tap through the clogged jets and rotated it to unclog the 25 jets below the rim. Now, the toilet flushes beautifully as I have never seen before. I am very grateful to you.
I just happened across your video, and all of the comments. Today I was just wondering if I needed to contact a plumber. Your video / the comments gave me confidence to take care of it myself! Lazy flush is probably the jets being clogged due to hard water deposits. I have previously dumped a bucket of water in the toilet and it went down very quickly!! YAY! Thanks!!
Thank you, Leah! This is a great video for those of us living in homes that are more than 2 years old. I'll be definitely trying your remedy this week! Keep those videos coming please!
Excellent video. The siphon jet was completely clogged with mineral buildup. After cleaning it out, toilet now works like new again. Thank you very much for your information!
Leah, yeah, I did the whole nine yards, and the toilet design is still not working, but it DOES have more power, and your video is excellent as usual! I have a "Mallorca" toilet - don't know from where or what country, but it's pretty much horrible, and since I am renting, I ain't wasting time or $$$ to worry too much about it. Great video! Your technique abolutely worked even on a "crappy" toilet - yes, pun intended ... Much love, keep it up, Leah!!!
Ive tried everything else, even took the toilet apart to see if there was any large obstructions. Im going to try this. This is probably whats going on with the jets since the pipes are clear. I loved your video it was so clear and informative interesting 😊 i dont often comment but i wanted to show my support.
This is great info and so well presented. I would like to add that if these methods do not help much then the slow flush could be caused by a worn flush valve closing too fast to allow the right amount of water to flow in. Had this problem, replaced the flush valve and problem solved!
Unbelievable! I learn something new every time I watch one of Leah’s videos. I’ve been doing home/commercial building maintenance for a long time, but I never knew about cleaning out the toilet jets to fix flushing issues. Thanks again Leah!
My bro told me to clear the siphon hole of any clogging, but never the vinegar idea and clogged jet holes.. since it's almost midnight, cant wait til tomorrow to try your instructions, see how it goes.thanks so much!! 🥰🥰
Great video! Thank you, Leah! I'm also wondering about toilets that you have to hold the lever down during the entire flush cycle in order to keep the water going... We have one like this at work and I'd probably be regarded as a goddess if I could fix it. 😆 🚽✨
Not sure if you figure it out yet, but most times I just adjust the "flapper" chain in the tank. It might be a bit too loose so when you press the handle, it doesn't lift the aforementioned "flapper" high enough to let enough water into the bowl. Adjust it with the clip a notch or two and see if that helps!
My toilet may have this issue, recently it takes a while to get that spiral action spinning and sometimes ends up backing up. I have been having to use the plunger a lot more. Never considered this solution, thanks!!
6 months of double/triple flushing until I took the bowl off the flange to realize the drain wasn’t blocked. Then I saw your video today and cleaned up all the mineral deposits in the jet siphon with a wooden chopstick. Problem solved! Thank you so much Leah!
Hi Leah! Thank you sooo much! I have PTSD around house stuff (complicated backstory) but now things like this trigger me massively. Your attitude is so reassuring. I'm afraid my toilet is built in and there is absolutely no way there's any hidden panel, only tiny circular flush button and rest tiles :( However, I'm going to try and put lots of vinegar on a bendy hair catcher thing and use a mirror to clean the jets as much as possible. Do you think this might work? I'll give it a go anyway. The flat's are only 6 years old, but we do have hard water. x
I cant wait to get my house!!! Im going to watch every one of your videos several times and remodel my home...you are awesome Leah!!!!!!you need to write a book!!!
But besides taping up the small jets under the rim, don't you also have to tape/plug the main siphon-jet? Otherwise, won't all the vinegar just run out the siphon-jet and pool in the bowl?
YES. I just came back here to say this. And I'm having a devil of a time stopping up the siphon yet. Tried a wadded up plastic bag, and now a "wall" of duct tape, and each time it leaks through. Frustrating!

Thank you for this info, it cures a long standing problem.
extremely helpful I had no idea!
Leah explains things so well. I have used her videos several times with success. I definitely need to get on over to her Patreon page next.
❤ Great information.
This came at the rite time.👍👍
You saved me sooooo much time, effort and money!! Thank you!!!! My well water is so hard it is ridiculous!
You are so informative!😊💫💫💫💫
Wow!!!!!!!! I'm blown away.... never thought to clean out the supply holes👏👏🙏🙏 great job!!
Thank you so much! Tried this today and it worked perfectly! You are a lifesaver!!
My toilet may have this issue, recently it takes a while to get that spiral action spinning and sometimes ends up backing up. I have been having to use the plunger a lot more.
Never considered this solution, thanks!!
Thank You!! I used CLR because we have heavy limescale here on the East coast and it worked perfectly!
Dang I never thought of that. I kept thinking it was something wrong with the siphon in the tank.
Working on one
@@seejanedrill looking forward to buying it!!!
Great job leah...And Away Troubles, Down the Drain....lol
Pure genius.... never realized this could cause the slow flush.... wow!
Never knew this!
Hi Jane...you are always right on time with everything. Just so happens, I'm going through this. I will try this.... thanks, your the best!
