- On his daily Frist 10 podcast, Post-Gazette columnist Jason Mackey weighs in on the Steelers' draft class. How can coach Mike Tomlin's influence be seen in GM Omar Khan's choices? And what are the biggest questions facing top picks Troy Fautanu, Zach Frazier, Roman Wilson and Payton Wilson?
Jason tackles those topics, then talks Pirates. Can this offense be fixed? Or will it keep wasting strong starts by the likes of Martin Perez, Jared Jones and even Quinn Priester over the weekend? And how much are bullpen struggles by names including David Bednar and Aroldis Chapman hurting this team's chances of making a run at a playoff spot?

Andy Weidl as well.
Mike Tomlin is the only remaining barrier to turning the Steelers around. All of this off season drama and hype is simply to distract and protect Mike Tomlin from any objective criticism and accountability. The Steelers can draft and trade for all of the talent in college and the NFL and Mike Tomlin will turn them into a largely uncoached mediocre team. Pathetic but true. AR2 needs to find an up and coming modern replacement head coach ASAP. Mike Tomlin must go.
Only haters and ignorant people think that Mike Tomlin isn't one of the top coaches in the NFL . Most players want to play for him, and they all give him high compliments 🎉 ! He's been to more superbowls and playoffs than most coaches in the league ! Go Tomlin ! Go Steelers!
These People Don't know Football. They know Media and Drama. Everyone who knows football know its Mike picking the talents and Omar writing the checks.
Tomlin is a WAAAAAY better as a recruiter than HC.
The pirates shouldn't be losing? what dimension is this guy from?
Sure. Let's also be aware the Steelers have flipped EVERY coaching & exec position to get the team back into winning playoff games. The only one unflipped? The head coach.
Exactly!!!
Just a coincidence that everyone has been changed in the last two seasons and now the trenches are important again…. this draft looks nothing like what Tomlin has been doing for years.
What are You a Nancy Boy? Lower your Karen to the parking lots. Funny how You Think You know More than the People doing it 😂 Envy Much. Nerds don't belong in our Sport. Learn Football. It's Not about Playoffs Sunshine. It's about Lombardis.. Try flipping yourself to another team rather than whine things you're clueless on. No One measures Playoffs as Wins 😂😂😂 They say You came up short . SMH..
@@mike2687so does he deserve credit for this draft or not 🤔
@@donovansign3140 - no, Tomlin doesn't draft like this. If he wants the running game fixed, he goes after a RB. He's enamored with the "splash" plays from a skills guy rather than the big uglies in the trenches.
@@mike2687 the fact that you said no like Tomlin doesn't give orders to his scouts that he hires and also goes to the pro Days of these players coming out and is everywhere doing everything reporters and beat writer's for the Team says Tomlin has full control of the Roster and Draft which makes sense for someone who does both head coach and GM duties 😂
Lets be a tad realistic. Roman Wilson. There is a huge difference between 'loves to block' and 'capable of blocking' when reports say 'Below average blocker, limiting his versatility in the run game." I'm sure he'll put in 10 times the effort DJ did, but is that a good thing with his size/frame/durability?
I agree, we really need a free agent wr2 before the season starts. And a proper CB2 if possible. Then I think we’ll be rolling
Roman Wilson, I'll take him any day! He can catch, and he will get himself open
Roman Wilson is the same size (height &weight) as H. Ward, S. Holmes, A. Brown and D. Johnson. He definitely can be the #2. He is a Route Runner, has good hands, speed, quick shifty, he is a winner, and has the Steeler Mentality.
@@skillzz420 Reading comprehension is going downhill fast in this thread. I'm talking about *As a Blocking WR* because Jason was going on and on about fierce blocking possibilities of a 5'10" 185 lb WR.
No, he is not the same size as Hines Ward. Ward was 6ft /197lbs who had the frame to carry 206 lbs.
A lot of blocking is want to or effeort & he def has that. I like the pick, but I still would prefer to have another #2 WR & Wilson as my slot #3.
Tomlin know NOTHING about offense so.
How mini want to play for him
Mike T started at WR for 3 years in college at William and Mary (1990-1994).
* 101 career receptions
* 2,054 Yards
* 20 TD's
He knows a lot about offense, ESPECIALLY WR 😂
@@Bizzydagod - Tomlin admittedly doesn’t do hardly anything on the offensive side outside of deciding whether they go for it on 4th down or not.
3 yrs at W&M (about an hour from me) in the early 90’s is ridiculously irrelevant to the modern NFL’s offense…. which tend to smash Tomlin’s defenses anytime he meets up with a contender outside the North.
@@mike2687 Not irrelevant at all. That's the HC job to make those type of decisions to go for it on 5th down or not. The guy said he knows NOTHING about offense which simply isn't true, he's a former offensive player in college, not a defensive player. We're not talking about him playing WR on a pop Warner team. My only point was that he definitely knows Offense. He coached WRs at Tennessee - Martin and at Arkansas State in 1997. After '97 is when he switched to coaching DBs.
@@Bizzydagod - don’t be so literal-I never played college ball and I know something about both offense and defense as does everyone in this comments section.
It’s about whether he knows “anything” relative to the rest of the league’s coaching staff.
