It's not just that they got the harmony and the phrasing....they've got the feeling of the song, the angry, resentful, regretful outpouring of bad love gone wrong. Masterful use of the fiddle to step in for Lindsey, catching the theme and the beat on a different instrument. Just outstanding.

Howard has an incredible studio. He always said once he could, he would do it right and he did.

The 4 part harmonies are just Incredible! I know Howard has a lot of musicians come in to the studio to record live. This sounds better than any studio version could ever be. Also love Amanda doing the "Whooooo" in the background like Christie McVie did for a Fleetwood Mac. And her violin playing is at expert level. Loved that she threw in a little "we didn't start the fire" at the beginning of the coda . Amazing. Could listen to this on repeat for days and not get sick of it
The fact that you, Amanda, and Brandi Carlile are in a band together is just almost too much to take. You are two of my most favorite and admirable women in music and all of entertainment. Thank you for forming the Highwomen.

This is an impressive LIVE performance with backing by Jason Isbell. I love the studio version of this song, but this live version is right up there. The Highwomen nail this and I thank them for their efforts. I know of their other songs, but this version of this song is just epic. Please keep breaking molds and recasting older songs into newer molds. You've got the handle on it.
