Ive read books about this and articles about this. The fact is Mick has had over 10 bankruptcies, 5 divorces, 6 wives kids wuth many different women and mick knows how t piss $$$$$ away. Mick admist " I love to spend $" Lindsey in the meantime, has the largest net worth of all the band menmbers according to forbes, Lindsey is worth over $100 million . Why? Lindsey has always been smart with his $$$. he saves and invests it , doesnt piss it away like Mick does. Lindsey and his wife have built together a very large real estate empire all over california . Mick has to tour constantly to feed the machine, thats his spending habits and blowing $$ away, meantime Lindsey has worked his ass off in the studio for over 45 years for this band crafting the albums that gave Mick and the others all this $$$$$ and there seems to be a lot of resentment towards lindsey for his success. Plus he has the happpiest family life of them all. Stevie and chris have no family, mick has more ex wives than trump , and John has just 1 daugher all grown up and hes been married for years,. So overall, Lindsey has the best personal life of them all, an I think thats a sore spot. I think Theres a lot of resentment towards lindsey for all his success inside and outside the band with his real estate empire. Mick has to tout until he dies because the way he pisses $$$ away, he cant survive more than 6 months with out it. Lindsey in the m,eantime, frankly doesnt need to tour ever again, he only does it because he enjoys it and he appreciates his fans. This coupled with stevie wanting mike campbell in there because of petty, I think it was a combination of all these things buildig over time, plus Lindsey wants new music, stevie doesnt. Lindsey and chri had a good record last year and he wants to do more new fleetwood mac music, the rest of them except for Chris and lindsey dont want new music. lindsey is very artistic. and I think lindsey wanted some of that new music on the tour for the mac, and the group declined that. I just think its a combination of things really. But the common denominator is causing all this trouble is Mick and stevie.
I grew up on this music. Both of my parents were obsessed with Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks. As a result, I find myself listening to their music as I sit by the pool relaxing with a beer on the weekend. Takes me back. So awesome to see them sharing their unique sound with a new generation. Unfortunately it sounds like they didn't have the mic volume set quite right because you can barely hear the ladies.
Jennifer Bureau; Thanks for making me feel REALLY OLD!! I was a freshman in College when this song came out.. You young whippersnappers missed out on some REALLY good bands in their heyday.
Sick_Puppy I was very lucky to have grown up listening to some amazing music. I was born in 1977 (the year this song came out in fact) and my parents were always playing music from the 50s, 60s and 70s in our home. When the 80s came, that music didn't replace the prior years' music, just got added into the rotation. I would rather listen to music from those eras, as I enjoy my weekend, than 90% of the music I heard when I was in college so, I'm jealous you had such great stuff coming out when you were. :)
There's some crazy relationship politics going on in this performance. Either they chose "The Chain" to perform without Buckingham as a statement to him, or they chose it without thinking and have really stepped on the memory of the song. Neither is really a great message to take. Sad days.
It's always their live opener, for a reason. It's a great song, and a song that thrives under young audiences. Don't think it's politic tbh. It's also all of them were involved in writing, so it makes sense to play this song, and not one that Lindsey was heavily involved in, right?
@scottjamescouper funny but I am pretty sure Stevie is back with Fleetwood, Christine actually supports Lindsay however doesn't have much say in the Mac!
GregorySpikeMD if you know enough about Fleetwood Mac then you know that there is no song that Lindsey isn’t heavily involved in. He’s literally the creative force behind the band.
I'd be honored if some Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal interpretation of their masterpiece composition LANDSLIDE on my channel. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
Flynn Taylor. Lindsey Buckingham wouldn’t commit to the Farewell Tour of the band that literally made him famous. Instead, they are persevering without him. The band has always risen above conflict and in true Fleetwood Mac tradition they are picking up and doing what they have to do. I think they sound fantastic and can’t wait to witness this bands final chapter in person! They don’t make em like this anymore. Lindsey Buckingham can sit home and play his guitar alone to himself for all I care. He bailed on his band.
Channel Ian - I thought the official story was that Lindsey wanted to record new music? I’ll take the new music over rolling out just the old hits any day. Otherwise they’re stagnant
Cire Nosnor You can put off a solo album for a year or two to tour with your band one last time. I don’t buy that story because either way he should have gone with them.
This is not about Lindsey. Changing the lineup of the band doesn't solve their main problem. Namely, that they haven't created worthy new song content since Tango In The Night was issued. How long have they been riding on these songs from Rumours? They have allowed a lot of time to slide by, and now they are nearing the end of their lives. They need to create something fresh and relevant, but I'm not sure they can do that anymore. It's sad.
Neil Finn truly is an amazing lead vocalist. Perhaps not the best song option for them to lead with, and completely understand that it's different without Lindsey, but this didn't sound bad at all. Looking forward to seeing how Neil tackles some of the pre-Buckingham/Nicks material.
These people were not outraged when Chris retired. Lindsey is very talented but has to get over his jealousy of Stevie for her personal success. Lindsey is one member of the band. I am looking forward to herring Chris, Stevie and the rest of the band play. Get over it.
THIS WAS my favorite band since 1975. The greatest day on my young life back then was when they finally came on 1980 to my town. I loved ALL of them. I played Rumors every night when following to sleep. I can say this is no longer fleetwood Mac. It makes me so sad, I can't no longer even listen to their music for now.
Love Neil Finn, love mike Campbell, miss Tom. But, for goodness sake, the amazing Buckingham brought more than brilliant chops. He brought energy. Wish they could have worked it out.
"Don't they sound amazing??" No, sorry Ellen. They do not. Neil Finn was great with Split Enz & Crowded House, but he just doesn't fit Fleetwood Mac. This was every bit as awful as I expected it would be when this mutation of a lineup was announced a few months back.
Adam Lindquist, you never listened to Fleetwood Mac until Neil joined? Did you just crawl out from under a rock? It's too bad you didn't discover them while they were still good
please listen to their first albums from the late 60s so you hear how they they have evolved. who knows, you might like the Peter Green era best...or enjoy all the eras
I just think that it’s such a sad way to end a legacy. It totally discredits the whole “we fight but we love each other” thing. Who knows what will happen in the future, but to me, Fleetwood Mac is Lindsey, Stevie, Mick, Chris, and John. It goes deeper than just the music. Losing Lindsey is like losing a limb.
Funny, I said the same thing about Fleetwood Mac when they lost Peter Green in 1970. I've never liked them since. Nobody could hold a candle to Green in that band, ever.
@@chalkieface9968 Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and Lindsay Buckingham's Fleetwood Mac are two different bands in my mind. Completely different style, different sound, everything. @@owlmatt You're probably right - I've never listened to any full track by Fleetwood Mac after Peter Green anyway so I wouldn't able to offer an opinion on the 2nd incarnation of the band.
So glad that I got to see this amazing band play live in Australia where I met Mick Fleetwood in a hotel where the band was staying. Miss you Christine McVie.
As a band they all brought so much to the table , without Lindsey the sound we come love is not there, but best of luck to all good they going to keep touring , just miss that true sound that only the five of them could produce.
I saw him in 04 and his voice was holding up back then. Ive seen some live stuff of his recently and can really tell he's loosing his voice. More a less going to see him play. Always been a big fan of his style. I go see him one last time before he starts getting the old man shakes lol.
Neil Finn is seriously talented and I like Fleetwood Mac even the 60's version with Peter Green. This though sounded flat. By that I mean whilst in tune there was just something missing, a lack of energy. Would have preferred if they could have worked something out with Buckingham. Fact Christine is with this lineup gives me hope because she recently worked with Buckingham on her solo album and hopefully she can be the link to salvage the relationship.
Think you have to look back at the emotional tension when song was written the chain and this is obviously missing all that emotion in Lyndsey's voice is that I believe
Don't mean to imply that suddenly they are bad. I've enjoyed Fleetwood Mac since their earliest days with Peter Green, Danny Kirwin, Bob Welch (had the song "Show Me a Smile" in my wedding 1973), but I think we all have to admit that they saw their greatest "commercial" (and financial) success with the addition of Nicks and Buckingham and that iteration is the most recognizable to the average listener. Just my humble opinion.
Don't worry about Neil Finn being good enough for this band mateys. FM just got themselves an insanely good singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, and are lucky to have him.
Mike Campbell is an amazing player. Different from Lindsey, but same level IMO. But Mike can't sing like LB. It is telling that both times they've replaced LB they had to get two people to fill his shoes.
I gotta admit; they sound pretty good here. They needed another mic on John's bass tho and apparently on Stevie, cause Neil's voice kinda drowned her out. It just won't be the same without Lindsey tho. On a different note, Christine McVie looks so good to be 75.
I have to agree with you. This was a live performance in a small television studio. 'I'm from the UK and first saw this on my phone and thought.. "Where are John's snappy bass lines?" then I got home and played it on my laptop with external speakers and a bass woofer and he sounds great. The vocal mix needs a bit of adjusting I also agree. On the whole, I'm now really looking forward to travelling all the way from London England to Tacoma Washington to see them in November. I don't understand all the negative comments here. Of course it's different without Buckingham but they still sound pretty darn good, even in a small television studio.
@@tryithere Same, she doesn't look much different now than she did 20 years ago. And agreed, so very underrated. Lindsey and Stevie deservingly get a lot of credit, but I always thoight McVie gave the band it's perfect balance.
I AGREE.. except for the fact that Stevie is singing back up here and not lead, so... She actually got heard more than in the original recording, I think. :)
Were we listening to the same schlock? That was atrocious. Neil's voice was meant to drown out Stevie's voice. Her voice is shot as is Christine's. You didn't hear Christine's voice on either song they performed. She even has a backup keyboardist. I will agree that Christine looks great. The band should have gone out gracefully - not like this.
Everyone has their own opinion about how they sound in the post Buckingham days, but I just think it goes to show how much of a skilled musician he his, that it takes two people to replace him.
The guy with the slimmest connection to Fleetwood Mac (Mike Campbell actually co-wrote at least one Stevie/Mac song in the past) is the one with the most prominent vocal on this wretched take of a great song.
redletter2008 personally I don’t think it sounds bad, it just sounds different to what we’re used to. Hopefully on the tour the three vocalists will be heard equally while singing together
Is there any way to block people? Some of this ludicrousness is just too much to bear. Dude, saffron, whatever -- you do know that guitarists backed up Lindsey, right? Sheesh.
Yep, I can handle Campbell on lead guitar because he has similar style to LB, but Finn (as talented as he is) just has too much of a laid back vocal style and stage presence to fit the bill. That was the same problem with Billy Burnette trying to replace LB back in the late 80s. Someone like Pete Townsend or similar, would have been a better fit IMO.
Everyone looks good. Everyone looks happy. Everyone sounds good. Fleetwood Mac has had a long history of personnel changes. This is the latest. Let's give them a chance to show what musicians who can play can do.
Lindsay needs to come back so Stevie and him can scream at each other like they did in 82 😭😭😭😭

Wayne Bishop exactly!! That's what I mean ,he'building up that real estate Empire
I always find it funny when people call it that, when the two main guys (Fleetwood and mac) are still there.
Glad to see Lindsey has built a real estate empire by charging people 100's of dollars a ticket to see a oldies act. The whole concert is larceny.
felpin well people keep paying it
I grew up on this music.
Shame this is just a shit cover version without LB
Sick_Puppy I was very lucky to have grown up listening to some amazing music. I was born in 1977 (the year this song came out in fact) and my parents were always playing music from the 50s, 60s and 70s in our home. When the 80s came, that music didn't replace the prior years' music, just got added into the rotation. I would rather listen to music from those eras, as I enjoy my weekend, than 90% of the music I heard when I was in college so, I'm jealous you had such great stuff coming out when you were. :)
Clearly they missed on one particular awesome blues band, which is so sad.
Sounded mediocre!
No Lindsey Buckingham no Fleetwood Mac simple as that really
tell that to Peter Green and Danny Kirwan
I love Mike Campbell just so much, but man, it’s painful without Lindsey.
Seriously painful. Hard to watch. Especially this song.
That's Neil Finn though....
This song just doesn’t make any sense without Lindsey.
@@bethany4379 live in concert, it almost hurt your heart. (Love, Mike Campbell, he seems to be a loner in this band)
@@JonBecker81 live...it was so sad.
Without Lindsey this song falls flat. No soul. No one can sing that harmony like lindsey. And if you dont love me now. Enough said. Chain is broken😢😣🤤
It's sad.
Talk about a void without Buckingham in the fold.
You Broke The Chain when you tried to pass this off as Fleetwood Mac!!!!!
Neil Finn truly is an amazing lead vocalist. Perhaps not the best song option for them to lead with, and completely understand that it's different without Lindsey, but this didn't sound bad at all. Looking forward to seeing how Neil tackles some of the pre-Buckingham/Nicks material.
He's a pretty good guitar player as well.
These people were not outraged when Chris retired. Lindsey is very talented but has to get over his jealousy of Stevie for her personal success. Lindsey is one member of the band. I am looking forward to herring Chris, Stevie and the rest of the band play. Get over it.
herring is right....this was fishy as hell.
So true stew23 👍🏻
@@patriciapauline2172 The band are happy again. No point in going on if they're not enjoying performing together.
Maybe my headphones are broken but the only moment when I was able to actually hear Christine was at the end when she said "Thank you!"
The best Fleetwood Mac music came out long before Buckingham & Nicks joined. Peter Green was at a much higher level playing and writing.
Great performers. Love Neil! Have a blast on tour!
Amazing! Neil Finn sounds so good. I never listened to Fleetwood Mac before Neil joined and am now discovering all their great albums.
Adam Lindquist, you never listened to Fleetwood Mac until Neil joined? Did you just crawl out from under a rock? It's too bad you didn't discover them while they were still good
Adam...never listened to "Rumors" one of the top selling albums of all time?
please listen to their first albums from the late 60s so you hear how they they have evolved. who knows, you might like the Peter Green era best...or enjoy all the eras
@sun 123 yeah but with Peter Green they were more, blues rock...they sound nothing like that for over 30 years...
It’s bittersweet to see Mike Campbell from the Heartbreaks playin w them ❤️
This literally makes me want to cry. The chain is broken, folks. How ironic is this performance?
Are you kidding? They should re-record Rumours with Finn. Breath of fresh air to the band.
@sun 123 the real FM with Peter Green?
Change will keep them together.
Gabrielle Schilling SO TRUE OMG
I just think that it’s such a sad way to end a legacy. It totally discredits the whole “we fight but we love each other” thing. Who knows what will happen in the future, but to me, Fleetwood Mac is Lindsey, Stevie, Mick, Chris, and John. It goes deeper than just the music. Losing Lindsey is like losing a limb.
OMG, i love you Christine McVie, you're beautiful!
I think Neil Finn is an INCREDIBLY accomplished musician and fits in "VERY NICELY" thank you!!!! 😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸
I agree....he had some really big shoes to fill as well..and did so like the pro that he is anyway ...
Wow what a massacred masterpiece:(
To me it's like taking the mustang from Bullitt and converting it to a hybrid uber ride
I love, love, love Mike Campbell. He's one of my favorite guitar players. But Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham is just...eh.
This video, though, is of a band trying to recreate Buckingham's style without Buckingham. Imagine Buckingham playing "Black Magic Woman" and trying to do an impression of Green: this feels like the same kind of wrong to me.
@@owlmatt You're probably right - I've never listened to any full track by Fleetwood Mac after Peter Green anyway so I wouldn't able to offer an opinion on the 2nd incarnation of the band.
"We will never break the chain" he.... ironic!
I wish the new members the very best. It's never easy replacing the originals.
So glad that I got to see this amazing band play live in Australia where I met Mick Fleetwood in a hotel where the band was staying. Miss you Christine McVie.
Very pleasantly surprised! Sounds damn good! Mike sounds awesome
Was stevie nicks microphone even on? The guys voice came in a lot louder
lopezryan11 was Christine’s mic on I didn’t hear her
Was thinking the same
Yeah can barely hear Stevie. Agree!
Oh yes it’s on! She makes a big mistake at 1:55. «And if...» whooops a little to early! 😂
She sings 'and then!' - she's been adding that live for a while now.
Should have done a pre-Buckingham Nicks song. Campbell's guitar style fits the Peter Green/Danny Kirwan/Bob Welch eras.
But no one in the Ellen audience would know any of those tunes.
They probably would know Black Magic Woman and Oh Well.
I think you're overestimating the hipness of an average Ellen crowd! :)
Journey and Chicago often do deep cuts in their live shows.
I wish. That would have been great but it would never happen I bet.
As a band they all brought so much to the table , without Lindsey the sound we come love is not there, but best of luck to all good they going to keep touring , just miss that true sound that only the five of them could produce.
Wow... I think I'll save my money this go around and just catch Lindsey's solo tour when it comes though.
That's what I did with no regrets.
I saw him in 04 and his voice was holding up back then. Ive seen some live stuff of his recently and can really tell he's loosing his voice. More a less going to see him play. Always been a big fan of his style. I go see him one last time before he starts getting the old man shakes lol.
Mike Campbell killing it though - Heartbreakers forever - also Neil Finn LEGEND!
Yes. Right there with you, IBTypeR.
I liked this! The ladies mics could have been louder but I’m super happy to see Neil
They were turned down for a reason.
as much as i love mike cambell and his time with tom petty nobody plays and drives the band like lindsay buckingham - period
Exactly!
Have to agree couldn't put finger on it something missing, tune okay
Think you have to look back at the emotional tension when song was written the chain and this is obviously missing all that emotion in Lyndsey's voice is that I believe
The key felt off, too.
Christine and Stevie’s mics were off or very lowwwww
You can't take the guts of the band out. Lindsey Buckingham's guitar and voice are much too important.
His arranging and producing are important, too.
Plus his song writing.
No offense to Neil Finn or Mike Campbell and the third guitarist in the background, but all 3 can't equal Lindsay Buckingham. Sad days.
That guy has been part of their touring performers for years.
Yup seen them live twice and both times there’s been 3 guitars including Lindsey.
Sounds like Fleetwood Heartbreakers. That quintessential Petty guitar sound at the end. Need LB back.
I can't believe she's 75. Very underrated too.
What a great cover band! Almost sounds like the real band!! woooo
Lol.
No LB then no FM! That dude made that band legendary.
Somewhere Tom Petty is shaking his head and not in a good way.
Don't know about that. Thinking Lindsey was not his fav guy.
Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest bands, ever.🤘🤘🤘
True, but kinda bad now
I'm Batman was.
They were :(
Kind of ironic performing 'never break the chain' without Lindsey.
yeah.....pretty sure the chain just got broken
pure hypocrisy!
I SAW EM IN OAKLAND,, THEY WANT ELECTRIC...YES LINDSY IS awesome GREAT
Everyone has their own opinion about how they sound in the post Buckingham days, but I just think it goes to show how much of a skilled musician he his, that it takes two people to replace him.
there was a 3rd guitarist in the background....and even with 3 guitarists it sounded dull by comparison.
This is like watching AC/DC without Angus Young - a total waste of my time!
Vocally no punch they sound tired and pitchy
That's why I am scared Mike. I should have been satisfied with just preserving the memories thru their dvds and cds.
Would have been nice to actually hear Stevie and Christine.
But Neil sounds good and Mike is a great guitarist
The guy with the slimmest connection to Fleetwood Mac (Mike Campbell actually co-wrote at least one Stevie/Mac song in the past) is the one with the most prominent vocal on this wretched take of a great song.
redletter2008 personally I don’t think it sounds bad, it just sounds different to what we’re used to.
Hopefully on the tour the three vocalists will be heard equally while singing together
Joseph Corcoran Hey! They needed TWO guitaurists to replace Lindsey- JUST like LAST time! And they STILL can't measure up!
Fleetwood Mac always toured with extra guitarists when your cult leader was in the band.
Is there any way to block people? Some of this ludicrousness is just too much to bear. Dude, saffron, whatever -- you do know that guitarists backed up Lindsey, right? Sheesh.
Love Neil, love Fleetwood Mac, not sure about Neil with Fleetwood Mac 🤔
It does suck doesn't it.
The charisma is basically gone. This song has no purpose with this lineup.
Neil Finn is awesome. Fleetwood Mac was awesome. This, however, is borderline pathetic.
man i wanted it to work but it just doesn't. this is like van halen without michael anthony (nothing against wolfie) it's just not the same...
Nobody they hired can even play Lindsey's guitar style the right way, lol
'You shouldn't have killed my Mom and squished my Walkman'
you need to go to another site where you might get some attention. You won't get it here
Very Nice Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Reference.
Finn I understood that reference
@ Jache Snache and yet . . ,
Irony much ?
Doesn’t work. Lindsey’s voice and guitar are vital to the sound. This sounds like a Stevie solo band.
loveiseternity - Just wait until Christine leaves or gets pushed out to make room for Bentmont Tench and the other Heartbreakers.
Hmmm, maybe you should get up there and it would sound so much better
Keith Blackwelder yes it would
Everyone looks good. Everyone looks happy. Everyone sounds good. Fleetwood Mac has had a long history of personnel changes. This is the latest. Let's give them a chance to show what musicians who can play can do.
The fact Buckingham has left is pure lunacy. He can't be replaced!!!
