As a drummer of 30 years that has played out live for 20 of those years on a state touring level I cannot over emphasize on how hard that truly was for Steve. Mick’s set is tuned, configured, and setup for his stature and playing style. Mick’s set is tailored exclusively to him. That alone can throw off many drummers. Then throw in no warm up time and put on the spot cold…. Steve great job brother. Brass balls for sure, handled it like a pro. Now here’s some insight to some that have never played. If your a drum tech for an accomplished band such as Fleetwood you are already an accomplished drummer yourself. They aren’t going to employ just anyone for that pivotal role. Steve sets up Mick’s set, tunes it, mic’s it, sound checks it, etc…. Steve knows every inch of that set just as Mick does. Also they all collaborated on stage and picked out a song that Steve was comfortable covering. SMART…. Steve has listened to every song Fleetwood plays over and over and over, after awhile you learn them. No different then what I do. I can listen to a new song that I have never heard and usually after a handful of times of hearing it I can come pretty close to replicating it. A lot of decent drummers and way better drummers than myself can. Steve is accomplished and that shows. He did a really nice job. Really cool to see him get his due….. Only thing I feel that Fleetwood should have done was bring Steve onto the stage to take a bow with them at the end. He earned that, plus he is just as an important piece to that band as anyone else is on that stage. He just performs his magic behind the scenes.
I've been playing 50 years and I'd be petrified. Not saying I wouldn't step up, but I'd be nervous until the song started. Then I'd be ok. Mind you I've covered lots of Fleetwood Mac tunes included Go Your Own Way.
But since Steve was the drum tech, wouldn't he be very familiar with the set up and tuning enough to be able to fill in and pull it off?? I would think he's probably had some time to play some tunes just from all the experience he's had with the band.
It was a ghastly rendition....they really should give it up already. And considering it was all staged to make the fans think they were getting something unique...tsk tsk.
I'm an old basement banger drummer since the late 60's. and one thing that I haven't seen mentioned about how absolutely incredible this performance by "Steve the Tech" is that those drums and cymbals have all been preset to Mick Fleetwood's specs as far as height, angle of the cymbals, angles of the drums themselves. Don't forget...Mick is what....like 6'8 or 6'10. Steve didn't even have time to re-adjust all those pieces! Absolutely amazing....and if ol' Stever would have had 3 run-thrus of that song with the band prior to the show, he would have been even MUCH MORE incredible. Stepping in like that COLD is hell. And did you see at the end how he dropped his head.....he was SPENT. Drumming takes serious endurance....you never hear that mentioned anywhere. jbeinarizona
As a guitar player that's been kicked out of more bands then I would care to mention ( even ones I started lol ) I am always amazed by the one sitting in the background. Playing guitar is a slow roll towards orgasm. Then you spend it and get to cuddle with the crowd. The drummer has a 5 min orgasm gets a towel to wipe off before having to spend it all again. Ready or not and no cuddles
Yes it does take its toll and beats the body up ! Look at what it eventually did to Neil Peart from Rush after all the years of constant touring where they decided to hang it up because he couldn't perform at his high standards of playing then just a few years later he died from brain cancer . Drumming is hard enough but people don't realize that as the kits get bigger it's also much more work to be proficient with playing it each and every night when touring especially when getting older . I see a lot of older drummers that are taping up wrists & fingers to help strengthen them and to help take the shock out of the joints from the stick hits & rim shots at times and often times I think they don't realize how hard they are playing because of adrenaline and the love of being up on stage and performing for the crowd .
I can't believe how STUPID people are, as in, the people that post, like u SuzyCat. ("Meow") It's obvious to any musician worth anything that the tech knew every single beat & nuance, and is a well practised musician in his own right. Not to mention, knowing THEIR songs inside out, which he would. So clean a performance, and so anxious to prove he wouldn't let them down, that the band could hardly keep up to HIM! YES! YET, Stevie and the band they have to make you believe 2 things, which is what the "talk" is really about 1) That Mick, is "special". (So maybe the tech can handle it, but that's a farce, cuz he well can. 2) That the group is MAKING EVERY EFFORT to continue on, which, they're really NOT, otherwise, they would ... continue on ... right? BUT IF they really continued on, it would distantle #1. Imagine if people caught wind that Mick was only half the drummer that people estimate him to be. (You must remember that some people are so dumb that Mick is actually their favourite drummer). A good drummer yes, Mick is, that's a given, but so are ALL these professional drummers. But he's no "Vinnie", or "Gadd" or "Weckl" etc. Not to mention "Tony Royster Jr"., "Mike Mangini" etc etc. PEOPLE ... THINK! I just can't stand people's inability to THINK!
OH, and it's not like I missed when he went off either. That could have happened for other reasons, like audio reasons, his headset, etc. But in true arrogance, he recovered without being noticeable or interrupting anything, and just came back into the beat. Jason Bonham's mistake in the '07 concert (Dazed & Confused) was 100 times worse, and they did a masterful editing job to try to cover it up. I've even seen YES go right off the mark too -- so any band can do it.
Hats off to ‘Drum Tech Steve’ thrown in at the deep end totally and utterly cold with no warm up or preparation. Mick Fleetwoods shoes were very big shoes to fill in front of 18,000 Fleetwood Mac fans, who know every note of every song. Steve did himself proud, no adjustments, just knocked it out of the park! To Steve, for having the massive brass balls to step up, I salute you Sir!
May not...very well not be 'true', in the sense of 'no warm up'...that's his job! I am QUITE SURE...MANY TIMES...if Mick is still in the shower...eating a bowl of Captain Crunch...or having his beard professionally trimmed & groomed in the make-up trailer...there has probably been NUMEROUS times that "Steve The Drum Tech" warmed up Mick's drums...THAT'S HIS JOB...and, there were probably times when he actually warmed up with Buckingham & the McVies' (the rhythm section)...just to get the vibe going...check sound levels...the list goes on and on; that wasn't the first time STEVE sat on Mick's "Holy Throne"...indeed probably the first time that he filled in for Fleetwood Mac's "Chairman Of The Board", live on stage, before a maddening crowd...but that's his job also...to fill in...if indeed, "Mick-Is-Sick". Simple as 'dat. Oh yes...I am a drummer too...since 1976. I kinda know the protocol on how these things go. PS: Once I saw U2's, The Edge's main guitar tech play the solo on "Electric Co."; ALMOST, JUST AS GOOD AS FREAKIN' EDGE HIMSELF!!! In the end, Steve's a true pro and he did exactly what his good ol' boss would have him to do! OK...nothing left to say here...all done now; back to my bowl of Shredded Wheat. BCRadio
Dec 2 2022. Christine McVie passed away a couple of days ago after a brief illness. She was 79. Just going through some FM footage I have never seen before and came across this video. I'd been drumming a couple of years and was 16 when the Rumors album came out. The band has been a part of my drumming every since. Great job by Steve, playing cold on a set not configured for him. For those saying he should have kept playing: he was gassed. Setting up the drums and playing the drums for 90 minutes are two totally different things. It's like trying to run a marathon without any preparation. Amazing that these older musicians just keep going into their 60's and 70's. Christine would have been 72 at this concert.
Wow! Steve was nothing short than a miracle ! I thought he was magnificent ! Also , to know that Christine is no longer with us , it breaks my heart 💔 to watch her singing .... Forever Fleetwood Mac fan. 💕
@@Ticonderous1 I don't know about A full band, but they always hide a guitarist in the shadows and a keyboard player to the left of the drums, as you're facing the stage. They play the whole concert but don't take the bows with the regulars.
The fact that Steve could do the job is an absolute no brainer. As you said Drum Tech's know the kit backwards & are awesome Players. Also of course at this level they would know the set-list verbatim. "Tech's", can also be considered "Understudies". Im thinking the only reason for their hesitation is their egos. Mick Fleetwood is a very high profile drummer in a very big Band. Steve unknown to the general Public. So could they be worried that Steve could do just as good a job, or even better? That's probably would be the hardest thing for Steve. Could you imagine if Steve was better than Mick?
I love Stevie...and I cover a lot of her songs. However, I've got to give you that one...she couldn't remember Steve's name or just didn't know it? I can't imagine not knowing the drum tech's name, or not knowing every person working with the band??? TLC😏
There's a moment half way through when Tech Steve almost tanks, its the only time during the song that John looks at him for more than a second or two. I always imagine in that moment that John is giving him a 'Slow down a bit, you're doing great' kind of look. Well done Steve, that was fantastic! 🥁🥁🥁
I still can’t believe Christine McVie is gone , I Love her So Much. I’ve seen her for decades in concert. I’m glad my 21 year old son got to see her with me with Lindsey in 2017 and then with Fleetwood Mac in 2018
Steve Rinkov (drum tech) is a great drummer in his own right. He has worked for some great musicians and he can pull of just about anything when it comes to drumming. He is definitely someone you want on your road crew without a doubt.
@@marlew6629 You obviously don't know a lot of drum techs. Fleetwood Mac's songs are a lot of 4 on the floor drum patterns so pretty sure Steve the drum tech can handle it.
I was a drum tech, set up , tuned and played the kit for sound check every night, and I knew the songs front to back. However, there are some guys you just can’t play. You can play Mick, but damm the height of the seat makes me dizzy

Techs for bands at this level know the music as well as the band. They're at every show and many rehearsals and typically excellent players. Cudos, Steve. You saved the day.

Steve nailed it, no problem. I've been drumming for 40+ years and was listening for missed fills, off downbeats and watched his composure - Steve was flawless. They shouldn't have panicked and overpromised a 'concert and a half'. Better to just have Mick go barf backstage, hand the sticks to Steve and finish the show without saying a word. Also, having 'Steve the Drum Tech' join them to take a bow would have been a gracious class act, too. Afterall, Stevie derisively told the crowd that this was his big audition. Fleetwood Mac has been around since 1967, why aren't they prepared for stuff like this? And rather than act like insecure, pampered narcissists, they could have relished the moment for one of the folks behind the scenes who work their asses off to make them stars and tried sharing the spotlight for once. Sounded like the crowd agreed.
They knew he could play the entire set. The tech listens to them play day in and out. As a Musician you memorize everything and no need for drama. The drum tech is always a Drummer.
Absolutely right, they should have ask him if he felt comfortable enough to finish out the show. Steve, after all is a accomplished drummer, and if he did feel comfortable with it, and even if his timing was off just a little bit, the drummer usually sets the timing on the rest of the band and the way they play.
Imagine stepping in that situation, substituting one of the greatest musicians and not shitting your pants. There are many people who can play but this takes guts. And he did great.

Kudos to Steve for going to the rescue! It must have felt scary to get up there but then great when the audience cheered for him. I hope the band rewarded him in some way
I’ve toured with some bands doing security (and I am a drummer). Techs are almost always really good musicians. Techs stepping in for bands have happened many times. Some have even been hired to be in the band. This tech (Steve) did a great job. But I am pretty disappointed that the band barely gave him any recognition.This is now part of the bands legacy and Rock & Roll history. They should have brought him out with the entire band and then did the bow. Giving him a high five, hand shake whatever. And also, why didn’t they finish the concert with Steve? He clearly showed he had the chops for it. The fans would of loved it and would of bragged for years how they were at the “Drum Tech Show” Remember when Keith Moon was whacked out of his head and couldn’t finish the show? ( I think that was the time he had tried horse tranquilizer, I’m not 100% sure). But some unknown fan, came up on stage and played the drums for The Who finishing the entire show. 40 years later people still talk about that infamous show.
I suspect this is the song he uses when he does the sound tests during set up, he missed a few beats here and there, probably was nervous but yeah he did a good job.
He did a good job!!! That kind of impromptu thing and the creativity that comes with it makes rock and roll what it should be to begin with. They should have had Steve come out for the ending bow as well. That would have been classy of them.
Other than rushing in some spots (as a drummer myself I can’t imagine the adrenaline going through that dude) he did great. Mick has a style that is extremely difficult to emulate and his sense of rhythm is so unique. This was a good effort Steve!
Oh stop it. Mick's style is SO damn easy to copy. There is nothing difficult about his playing. Which isn't a bad thing but please don't act as if this Steve did something supernatural here. I even think he should have done better.
Yeah I'm a drummer too (since 1974) and I heard that little adrenaline rushed (6:11-18) moment too, but Steve nailed it and I think he was wearing a click because I saw what looked like a wireless pack for in-ears on Steve when he got up, plus the way he started the song with straight quarter notes...the click gave him the tempo. I loved the retard at the end and the gated sound of the toms was killer! Nice job Steve!
I don't know the first thing about playing drums so it was amazing watching ole Steve step up and get the job done on short notice and not to mention, performing in front of a live audience !! Excellent job !
There is absolutely no reason why drum tech Steve couldn't play the whole show. I've been a guitarist first drummer second my whole life and the guy is obviously a good drummer. His timing was good too. He should have played the whole show. I'm just sayin'....I'm sure the fans would have appreciated it.
How about the drum tech, Steve, couldn’t hold it together for one song, let alone an entire gig. He totally loses it at around 06:12 and sounds like he’s building a shed for the rest of the song.

There is a lot of difference between looking after the drums and playing in front of a packed audience so a good try Steve and much respect to you but give the sticks to Mick while you make sure the drums are at their best.
C’mon, dude….he did the best he could. Gave the crowd at least one more song instead of closing it down. BUT…he got all over the place about 3/4 in. And honestly…the rest of the band seemed like they were veering off too. The rest of the show would’ve been a huge write up in the entertainment news the next day on how Fleetwood was trash. And you know that would’ve happened. Like TMZ. Even Christine’s SONGBIRD sounded as if she wanted to hurry and get off the stage

I was at that concert. Couldn’t understand why the tech couldn’t have finished the concert. People were pissed. He was obviously a drummer and capable.
Just a guess and playing devil's advocate, maybe the drum tech couldn't continue performing because of union and contract terms. I don't work in the performing arts industry. I work in engrg/const and I've had a few fairly terrifying conversations with union BAs over the past 40 years . . . BAs are the labor union reps who file grievances when a union worker is found to be doing work outside of his craft (example, a heavy equipment operator doing electrical work) or a non-union worker is doing work a union worker should be doing. Them's fighting words and if a grievance isn't resolved PDQ (as in, right quick this very FN minute) that's how walk-outs, sit-downs and industry-wide strikes get traction. It's serious biz. I'm sure all parties involved are represented by their respective union and each union would most likely have had a BA on the job. I enjoyed the video though. It was interesting to see how a realtime glitch was worked out. I thought everyone present (audience included) seemed exceptional in their handling of the situation.
Now THIS is how to handle an unexpected illness during a show! This was a class act,guys,and a certain Rocker (yes you,Axl Rose) could learn a lot from their example.
I just love shit like this. It makes everything less rehearsed. I saw the counting crows once and their drummer left in the middle of the show. They huddled before every song and played acoustic versions all night. It was great because they really had to be in the moment and couldn’t just go on auto pilot.
I was at an Oasis gig one night and the drummer up amd left in the middle of the show too. Can't say anyone noticed tbh... I think Noel had to use 4 strings instead of three.
He and McVie have been riding on others talents since 1969. The showboating here is unreal. Bar bands play this shit all day with drummers better than Mick.

Hats off to Steve the tech... this was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to appreciate his chops ! Most techs, drums, guitar ect are quite skilled musicians in their own right.... I'd guess some, if not most are comparable to the player they tech for . ... but sadly, most techs are never given the kudos they deserve as unsung heroes of the music industry.
I love Fleetwood Mac, one of the best bands of all time. I wasn't there but what an amazing job Steve the band tech did filling in for Mick after he got sick. Many top bands like this have top band techs who are excellent musicians on their instrument. They should have finished the show with Steve.

Well.....from a professional's drummer's standpoint, I'd say he did a fantastic job considering the song which isn't just a straight 4/4 rock beat. There's a lot going on in that song. He did a great job.
A good drum tech will inevitably have this responsibility and his ability to know the material and all technical as well as equipment aspects it's part of his job. Most never get a chance to actually play live but a good tech is always prepared to step in when needed. This guy sounds just as good as Mick. Enough said
I once played in a band as a guitar player. Our technician was also a guitarist, and we all could play the instruments others played. I did piano, bass and drums when needed and the bass player f.e. drums and guitar. It was a natural thing to do. So what I see here gets all my respect, specially because it must be hard to replace anyone in such a great band and suddenly play for thousands and thousands of paying visitors.
As much as it puts tears in my eyes to say this, Fleetwood Mac is aging just like we all are. It was nice to hear a little bit of fresh blood, it reminded me of years ago except it wasn’t Mick on the drums. He is the greatest just like they all are at what they do. I’ve been a fan for decades and there has been no comparison to them in my opinion in all that time. Stevie‘s voice is unique and one-of-a-kind, I’ve never heard another like it. Christine was so great, great songwriter and vocalist and keyboardist, they were all so perfect. I don’t think any of them can be replaced. We should just treasure what they gave us. I did lose a little respect after learning about their lifestyle habits, to be blessed with such talent why they would do that is beyond me. I wish they would have taken care of their bodies and their minds while they were entertaining us. Steve did an excellent job by the way, this was a no means a put down of his excellent work. I don’t know if anyone else could’ve done that well, the expectations were real.
The tech did an AWESOME job..something like this happened to me while working at a club as a bartender….the piano player was late and the head of the club knew I was a musician and he asked me to play the piano…

I can't believe how STUPID people are, as in, the people that post, like u SuzyCat. ("Meow") It's obvious to any musician worth anything that the tech knew every single beat & nuance, and is a well practised musician in his own right. Not to mention, knowing THEIR songs inside out, which he would. So clean a performance, and so anxious to prove he wouldn't let them down, that the band could hardly keep up to HIM! YES! YET, Stevie and the band they have to make you believe 2 things, which is what the "talk" is really about 1) That Mick, is "special". (So maybe the tech can handle it, but that's a farce, cuz he well can. 2) That the group is MAKING EVERY EFFORT to continue on, which, they're really NOT, otherwise, they would ... continue on ... right? BUT IF they really continued on, it would distantle #1. Imagine if people caught wind that Mick was only half the drummer that people estimate him to be. (You must remember that some people are so dumb that Mick is actually their favourite drummer). A good drummer yes, Mick is, that's a given, but so are ALL these professional drummers. But he's no "Vinnie", or "Gadd" or "Weckl" etc. Not to mention "Tony Royster Jr"., "Mike Mangini" etc etc. PEOPLE ... THINK! I just can't stand people's inability to THINK!
OH, and it's not like I missed when he went off either. That could have happened for other reasons, like audio reasons, his headset, etc. But in true arrogance, he recovered without being noticeable or interrupting anything, and just came back into the beat. Jason Bonham's mistake in the '07 concert (Dazed & Confused) was 100 times worse, and they did a masterful editing job to try to cover it up. I've even seen YES go right off the mark too -- so any band can do it.

Hats off to ‘Drum Tech Steve’ thrown in at the deep end totally and utterly cold with no warm up or preparation. Mick Fleetwoods shoes were very big shoes to fill in front of 18,000 Fleetwood Mac fans, who know every note of every song. Steve did himself proud, no adjustments, just knocked it out of the park! To Steve, for having the massive brass balls to step up, I salute you Sir!

May not...very well not be 'true', in the sense of 'no warm up'...that's his job! I am QUITE SURE...MANY TIMES...if Mick is still in the shower...eating a bowl of Captain Crunch...or having his beard professionally trimmed & groomed in the make-up trailer...there has probably been NUMEROUS times that "Steve The Drum Tech" warmed up Mick's drums...THAT'S HIS JOB...and, there were probably times when he actually warmed up with Buckingham & the McVies' (the rhythm section)...just to get the vibe going...check sound levels...the list goes on and on; that wasn't the first time STEVE sat on Mick's "Holy Throne"...indeed probably the first time that he filled in for Fleetwood Mac's "Chairman Of The Board", live on stage, before a maddening crowd...but that's his job also...to fill in...if indeed, "Mick-Is-Sick". Simple as 'dat. Oh yes...I am a drummer too...since 1976. I kinda know the protocol on how these things go. PS: Once I saw U2's, The Edge's main guitar tech play the solo on "Electric Co."; ALMOST, JUST AS GOOD AS FREAKIN' EDGE HIMSELF!!! In the end, Steve's a true pro and he did exactly what his good ol' boss would have him to do!

Dec 2 2022. Christine McVie passed away a couple of days ago after a brief illness. She was 79.
Just going through some FM footage I have never seen before and came across this video. I'd been drumming a couple of years and was 16 when the Rumors album came out. The band has been a part of my drumming every since.
Great job by Steve, playing cold on a set not configured for him.
For those saying he should have kept playing: he was gassed. Setting up the drums and playing the drums for 90 minutes are two totally different things. It's like trying to run a marathon without any preparation. Amazing that these older musicians just keep going into their 60's and 70's. Christine would have been 72 at this concert.

Mick Fleetwood is a very high profile drummer in a very big Band. Steve unknown to the general Public. So could they be worried that Steve could do just as good a job, or even better?

There's a moment half way through when Tech Steve almost tanks, its the only time during the song that John looks at him for more than a second or two. I always imagine in that moment that John is giving him a 'Slow down a bit, you're doing great' kind of look. Well done Steve, that was fantastic! 🥁🥁🥁

I still can’t believe Christine McVie is gone , I Love her So Much. I’ve seen her for decades in concert. I’m glad my 21 year old son got to see her with me with Lindsey in 2017 and then with Fleetwood Mac in 2018
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord. I was deeply saddened by her passing as well. One of the great ladies of rock and an incredible song writer.
I was never able to go see them, unfortunately. However, I am blessed to live vicariously through everyone that did go and uploaded videos like this!

Steve Rinkov (drum tech) is a great drummer in his own right. He has worked for some great musicians and he can pull of just about anything when it comes to drumming. He is definitely someone you want on your road crew without a doubt.

I was a drum tech, set up , tuned and played the kit for sound check every night, and I knew the songs front to back.
However, there are some guys you just can’t play. You can play Mick, but damm the height of the seat makes me dizzy

What a moment that would be to play drum with Fleetwood Mac. I can just imagine Steve's story about the night he sat in for Mick Fleetwood.
Steve nailed it, no problem. I've been drumming for 40+ years and was listening for missed fills, off downbeats and watched his composure - Steve was flawless. They shouldn't have panicked and overpromised a 'concert and a half'. Better to just have Mick go barf backstage, hand the sticks to Steve and finish the show without saying a word. Also, having 'Steve the Drum Tech' join them to take a bow would have been a gracious class act, too. Afterall, Stevie derisively told the crowd that this was his big audition. Fleetwood Mac has been around since 1967, why aren't they prepared for stuff like this? And rather than act like insecure, pampered narcissists, they could have relished the moment for one of the folks behind the scenes who work their asses off to make them stars and tried sharing the spotlight for once. Sounded like the crowd agreed.

They knew he could play the entire set. The tech listens to them play day in and out. As a Musician you memorize everything and no need for drama. The drum tech is always a Drummer.

Absolutely right, they should have ask him if he felt comfortable enough to finish out the show. Steve, after all is a accomplished drummer, and if he did feel comfortable with it, and even if his timing was off just a little bit, the drummer usually sets the timing on the rest of the band and the way they play.

I’ve toured with some bands doing security (and I am a drummer). Techs are almost always really good musicians. Techs stepping in for bands have happened many times. Some have even been hired to be in the band.
This tech (Steve) did a great job. But I am pretty disappointed that the band barely gave him any recognition.This is now part of the bands legacy and Rock & Roll history. They should have brought him out with the entire band and then did the bow. Giving him a high five, hand shake whatever. And also, why didn’t they finish the concert with Steve? He clearly showed he had the chops for it. The fans would of loved it and would of bragged for years how they were at the “Drum Tech Show”
Remember when Keith Moon was whacked out of his head and couldn’t finish the show? ( I think that was the time he had tried horse tranquilizer, I’m not 100% sure). But some unknown fan, came up on stage and played the drums for The Who finishing the entire show. 40 years later people still talk about that infamous show.

Other than rushing in some spots (as a drummer myself I can’t imagine the adrenaline going through that dude) he did great. Mick has a style that is extremely difficult to emulate and his sense of rhythm is so unique. This was a good effort Steve!

Yeah I'm a drummer too (since 1974) and I heard that little adrenaline rushed (6:11-18) moment too, but Steve nailed it and I think he was wearing a click because I saw what looked like a wireless pack for in-ears on Steve when he got up, plus the way he started the song with straight quarter notes...the click gave him the tempo. I loved the retard at the end and the gated sound of the toms was killer! Nice job Steve!

His timing was good too. He should have played the whole show. I'm just sayin'....I'm sure the fans would have appreciated it.

No Steve the drum tech did his best for one song but got really out of shape during the song. There is a lot of difference between looking after the drums and playing in front of a packed audience so a good try Steve and much respect to you but give the sticks to Mick while you make sure the drums are at their best.
C’mon, dude….he did the best he could. Gave the crowd at least one more song instead of closing it down. BUT…he got all over the place about 3/4 in. And honestly…the rest of the band seemed like they were veering off too.
The rest of the show would’ve been a huge write up in the entertainment news the next day on how Fleetwood was trash. And you know that would’ve happened. Like TMZ.

Just a guess and playing devil's advocate, maybe the drum tech couldn't continue performing because of union and contract terms. I don't work in the performing arts industry. I work in engrg/const and I've had a few fairly terrifying conversations with union BAs over the past 40 years . . . BAs are the labor union reps who file grievances when a union worker is found to be doing work outside of his craft (example, a heavy equipment operator doing electrical work) or a non-union worker is doing work a union worker should be doing. Them's fighting words and if a grievance isn't resolved PDQ (as in, right quick this very FN minute) that's how walk-outs, sit-downs and industry-wide strikes get traction. It's serious biz. I'm sure all parties involved are represented by their respective union and each union would most likely have had a BA on the job. I enjoyed the video though. It was interesting to see how a realtime glitch was worked out. I thought everyone present (audience included) seemed exceptional in their handling of the situation.

I just love shit like this. It makes everything less rehearsed. I saw the counting crows once and their drummer left in the middle of the show. They huddled before every song and played acoustic versions all night. It was great because they really had to be in the moment and couldn’t just go on auto pilot.
I was at an Oasis gig one night and the drummer up amd left in the middle of the show too.

I love Fleetwood Mac, one of the best bands of all time. I wasn't there but what an amazing job Steve the band tech did filling in for Mick after he got sick. Many top bands like this have top band techs who are excellent musicians on their instrument. They should have finished the show with Steve.

Every touring act travels with a crew of musicians, some of whom are actually better players than those they serve as instrument techs. Most importantly, they have often had playing careers of their own so are unafraid of a crowd. They spend every night watching like understudies and a few of them could easily fill in for a whole show. I wouldn’t quite put Steve in that category but I salute him for a very serious and brave effort.
Well.....from a professional's drummer's standpoint, I'd say he did a fantastic job considering the song which isn't just a straight 4/4 rock beat. There's a lot going on in that song. He did a great job.

A good drum tech will inevitably have this responsibility and his ability to know the material and all technical as well as equipment aspects it's part of his job. Most never get a chance to actually play live but a good tech is always prepared to step in when needed. This guy sounds just as good as Mick. Enough said
I once played in a band as a guitar player. Our technician was also a guitarist, and we all could play the instruments others played. I did piano, bass and drums when needed and the bass player f.e. drums and guitar. It was a natural thing to do. So what I see here gets all my respect, specially because it must be hard to replace anyone in such a great band and suddenly play for thousands and thousands of paying visitors.
As much as it puts tears in my eyes to say this, Fleetwood Mac is aging just like we all are. It was nice to hear a little bit of fresh blood, it reminded me of years ago except it wasn’t Mick on the drums. He is the greatest just like they all are at what they do. I’ve been a fan for decades and there has been no comparison to them in my opinion in all that time. Stevie‘s voice is unique and one-of-a-kind, I’ve never heard another like it. Christine was so great, great songwriter and vocalist and keyboardist, they were all so perfect. I don’t think any of them can be replaced. We should just treasure what they gave us. I did lose a little respect after learning about their lifestyle habits, to be blessed with such talent why they would do that is beyond me. I wish they would have taken care of their bodies and their minds while they were entertaining us. Steve did an excellent job by the way, this was a no means a put down of his excellent work. I don’t know if anyone else could’ve done that well, the expectations were real.
The tech did an AWESOME job..something like this happened to me while working at a club as a bartender….the piano player was late and the head of the club knew I was a musician and he asked me to play the piano…
How in the world a drum tech could go in COLD and cover for a living legend on a seconds notice.... Incredible, Seriously Incredible
