Lindsay and Stevie were both still the "new members" when Rumours came out and Chris was well and truly established in the eyes of those of us who were fans at the time. Her playing, writing and singing were already an incredibly important and appreciated part of FM's music and even if they hadn't been, how could anyone not appreciate the person who contributed Oh Daddy, Songbird, Don't Stop and You Make Loving Fun to the album? Regardless of Lindsay's chops as a guitar player, Christine's playing is just as important to the sound of Rumours as his was and to suggest she was underappreciated is bizarre.

The videos are almost unintentionally funny.....he struggles to answer technical questions, but he can demonstrate his music by picking up an instrument and showing what he does.....can't explain it though. I suspect Mr. B. has been approached by Beato and kindly declined the invitation. I doubt that Lindsey could carry an hour of Beato probing.....but he's a unique and special talent, for sure.

Conversely, Stand Back did so well commercially that Fleetwood Mac included it in their setlist for the Tango in the Night tour. Yes, it can be debated. Commercial success doesn't equate to musical quality. "Dreams" is one of the worst pop tunes ever written, but it had a lot of commercial success. That's because the general public knows nothing about music. Dreams has only TWO chords in the whole song, and the melody is very bland, almost monotonal, boring, and it drones on like a stomach ache. You have your opinion, but your opinion doesn't hold up to musical facts. Dreams is and album with a couple of good songs, but that's the end of it. "You Make Lovin' Fun" and "Songbird" are the only two songs that I like on that album.

Songs are supposed to evoke emotion. That song is so bland, it doesn't evoke anything. It's like a stomach ache. Another two-chord song that is so boring is "A Horse With No Name" by "America." That song and "Dreams" are the two worst pop songs of all time. I find it ironic that Tango in the Night and The Dance were intended to be Buckingham solo projects, but pressure from bandmates for new FM material forced Buckingham to acquiesce. Buckingham was the driving force behind FM's success from 1975-1987 (when he left the band), and from 1996-2017. He rescued FM from what would have been musical obscurity, and made his former bandmates very wealthy. His firing was a crime.

    I keep seeing people post that it took two guitarists to replace Lindsy. That is not exactly what happened. The fact is Lindsy overdubbed a lot of guitar parts. He essentially was playing the part of two or more guitarists. For Practicality’s sake, and for having a full sound, two guitarists were used in several iterations.

    2:55 Lindsey's wrong on this. The last Fleetwood Mac Album with Bob Welch, Heroes are Hard to Find, went top 40. So Buckingham and Nicks stepped into a major band with a built in audience. And yes, they did take the band to another level in terms of sales.

    • @jeff-ds2pr
      @jeff-ds2pr Месяц назад +1

      They sold just enough albums in the Bob Welch era, so that the label woudln't drop them (around 300-400k units at the time...later on as the band became famous some of those albums earned Gold certification), but the same time they weren't beloved by the label. Mick Fleetwood even said such things in his autobiography. They were kind of the equivalent of the mediocre worker who does just enough NOT to get fired, for lack of better analogy.

    Rumors was great because of the music. It wasn't really the story of their lives that drew anyone to the album. Most people didn't know much if anything at all about them. Back then we barely even knew what musicians looked like unless you saw them on Midnight Special or Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. That is why Lindsey didn't even know who Mick Fleetwood was when he saw him. We did get to know what they looked like but only after Rumors went rocketing through the charts... and stayed there.

    Mick Fleetwood only wanted Lindsey Buckingham when he asked him to join Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey had to talk them into taking Stevie and
    said he couldn't do it without her joining. It's important to remember that, especially in recent times when Stevie threw Lindsey under the bus.
