Thanks guys. I was doing this today on my 2012 GTI and I was glad I found this video for the bolt pattern and torque specs. Same install. Pretty easy, but that pan may give you guys some problems getting it down from the upper half. Mine was majorly sealed to the upper half, even with having the system open and being cold. I'd recommend an impact drill along with some WD-40 or PB Blaster for the pan bolts to crack them loose easier. I'm an ok mechanic when it comes to diys on the GTI, and this job is definately doable yourself without too much hassle, just torque the bolts right and put that sealant on like they do in the video and check for leaks you should be ok.
Thanks Guys for your efforts doing these vid's! My son and I are on the hunt to buy a GTI so we are doing our studies. With all the cool ECS stuff I see, we will need to extend the budget ;) Wish us Luck!
This, DAP and Humble Mechanic is where I learned everything about my gti. Also watched the amateurs, but video quality is not the best. I tried to do myself some videos and it’s hard without good camera setup and light
I'm a lady who likes to learn about every car I've owned especially when I encounter a problem. I have a 2008 Volkswagen EOS ( Turbo) manual. I do the very best to take good care of it but when I got it I noticed smoke coming from the exhaust and leaking oil. Found out it had a cracked oil pan. I thought I'd research to understand what the mechanics do in replacing the pan and I found this video. It seemed pretty straightforward so why does it take a shop 3-4 hours to replace it when you've provided them with the oil pan kit? And they'll tell you it's over 900$ ( I read in the comments). No way am I going to pay that kind of money for a job that's between 1.5 hrs if the mechanic is competent at his or her job. Thank you kindly for a most informative video.
Not going to lie, if there is a part where torque specs dont matter for shit, its a oil pan... The seal alone can almost hold it on there, and they wont back out cause the sealant is in the threads... Just get them hand tight with a small wrench, and honestly, thats good... As for the pattern you do it in, i would try to do the ones across from each other, and as long as you dont do it around i na circle, i think its fine...
I agree with you with the whole why sealant and no gasket. Id much rather use a gasket myself. But as for gasket and sealant together, it allows for leaks. Most gaskets are rubberish material and when sealant dries on it, it slips against each ither
I too have noticed that in the last several years repair shops (not just dealer service shops) have ramped up quite noticeably their fees as well as their upselling. I was quoted like $850 to change an alternator for my very old '97 Mitsubishi Montero. And most recently I took my '12 VW CC to get the spark plug coil packs replaced but they advised me that I needed 3 other services. I opted for 2 of the more complicated ones and told them I will replace my own spark plugs. BEWARE OF REPARE SHOPS OVERPRICING AND UPSELLS FOR SERVICES YOU DON'T REALLY NEED.
I was quoted almost 900 in parts and labor for oil filter housing replacement on my 08 TT 2.0, hard pass. I replaced it with an ECS Tuning heavy duty housing for a fraction of the price lol
Do you have to make sure all fo the oil is drained before taking off the oil pan? All I have to do is replace the gasket but I just changed my oil and I do not want to have to send the money for more oil.
If you're here because you've got an ea888 gen 2 or CESA audi TT, after failing to find a video and settling for this one ( which is a great video) Just to warn you there's a bracket you'll have to take off in order to remove the sump. ✌️
If I change the oil pan with this metal one how much quantity of oil I need to put after?În my CJSA originally enter 5.2 L , but on CDAA engine from where is otiginally the steel pan enter 4.6L.
Can i reuse the stock oil pan? & also while i was waiting for the gasket to dry i didnt know but i put oil in the car but didn’t crank the car till the gasket was set for an hour
Does anyone know what the Rubber Part is that connects to the engine JUST above (verticallY) and adjacent to Bolt #15? I have a small leak coming from that.
What’s a reasonable price a mechanic should charge for this? I’d like to do this myself however I don’t have all the necessary tools ex. Car ramps so I can get underneath the car etc..
Oil pans, depending on your vehicle, go from 100$ to 200$. They'll charge you for the sealant as well, and the mechanic's time, so I am guessing somewhere from 250$ to 400$ would be a reasonable price. If I were you, and if you wanna save a bit of money, I would go and buy cheap car stands ( I believe ramps are more expensive). I am not sure if you would absolutely need two of them and if the car absolutely needs to be leveled out to perform this job, but technically if you already have a jack, one stand would suffice for the other side. As for the pan and sealant, I recommend checking on www.rockauto.com they usually have cheaper prices than mechanics, even after shipping. You could also get your stuff delivered in Canada with Kinek and get it from there if you have a valid passport.
@@maddmax1993666 do not get under a car if you're supporting it with a jack of any type! Always use a jackstand. The above comment could get you killed, one stand will not suffice (unless one stand is all you're using I guess)
Sooo you guys do an oil pan swap video but no turbo swap...I know a guy who knows a guy that was going to do a k04 upgrade but you guys took too long and now he did the k04 on his own.
Thanks for a great video. I'm going to tackle this job on my 2015 Tiguan 2.0 TSI . Oil pan drain plug hole is dimpled and continues to leak. Tried oil drain plug sealant, different washer combos and it still leaks.
is it just me or is it impossible to find a “10 mm nut”. i dont want to wait on their kit to mail but i literally just need the 3 nuts for the oil level sensor
Is the mk7 the only Volkswagen w/ a plastic oil pan because I heard that the mk6 has one too but I done research and I don’t see anything saying it is can anyone let me know?
I didn’t show ur bolt steps tbh I was so lost so I was like f it I just couldn’t see it the same way in the picture so f it if drops ima ask a replacement from y’all with my warranty wish y’all included a picture of the shits
I realized i have a leak on my 18 ecoboost. It has mods (as why I realized, installing a bov) lmao ima take it to the dealership. If they deny service ill do it myself, and send a nice “cancel my warranty” since my payments would go down AND they get a claim saying the dealership owes the finance company 3k (me). B/c then im just losing money. So fuck it. I mean id win regardless
"hey Im zach, and this is Money Pit"
He doesn’t seem happy like he does with doughnut lol
I STG I only clicked bc I was like hold up... wait a minute... ZACH???
This damn volkswagen is my money pit
Yep he was money pit before Donut
Thats almost as funny as the size of your micropeens
i love how he went from replacing oilpans to making a turbo miata
His first "money pit" was a mk 7.5 gti. It's on this channel. Check it out.
Lmao
it's the dude on Donut Media!
I was about to say 😂
Knew i saw this guy somewhere before Donut. Cant believe it took this long for me to realize. Small world.
Did this on my 2.0 tiguan. Almost missed the part of letting the seal sit for an hour before adding oil 😂. Thankfully I rewatched. Thank you!
only dude in these ECS vids that doesn't seem totally fake, mega thumbs up! might need a new oil pan on my MKV so this was a major helping hand
Great simple video, mostly came looking for information on the bolt pattern and the included picture was a major help. Thank you.
Thank you Brother! Saved me a lot of money with this education!!!

Thank you for the info, getting ready to do this and the extra info will help.
💯 facts!!!😊

dudeeee i have this car just looking up how to fix stuff if i ever need to i love money pit and everything you do on donut keep it up man

I thought the damn pan would be really hard to get to...good video. Nice shop...very clean
Love the safety glasses, 👌
I'd pay this guy any day of the week to work on my VW as long as I could be his assistant. 😄
Totally Agree w you! 💯😊
Will this be the same process for a 2014 VW Jetta SE with the 1.8T?
Thank you so much for this video. It helped so much with my 2010 Passat!!!!
I see gaskets available for this. Should they not be used?

Did you use a gasket? Or just the sealer from that tube? Little confused here.
What brand/model scraper do you use? Thanks in Advance!
Can you use the same screws and do you need new screws with the metal sump?
Hahaha great job guys. So down to earth. 👍🏻👍🏻
Is it worth spending twice as much on an oem lower oil pan vs aftermarket ( atp brand) on a 2012 wagon?
Saw a video where the black paint from inside a new oil pan came off and clogged up the oil pickup tube and ruined the Guy's engine
why not use a Fel-Pro OS 30821 gasket instead of RTV?
will it fit 2015 gti? work with metal or plastic? thanks bob
Good Video. I'm in the reinstall stage now on a Tiguan 2.0 TSI. No gasket? Sealant only?
The sealant is the gasket. Permatex makes better spec gaskets than premade bs
very quaility video. thanks for sharing.
The rubber mallet...did not see that coming! But really made the differenc ;-)
So why go with the sealant instead of the gasket? Or why not gasket and sealant?
I agree with you with the whole why sealant and no gasket. Id much rather use a gasket myself.
But as for gasket and sealant together, it allows for leaks. Most gaskets are rubberish material and when sealant dries on it, it slips against each ither
0:30 I'm new to all these terms. But I like the fitment of the wheels. Is there anything specific to get your tires to look like that?
Plumpy looking
If I didn’t get the magnetic drain plug, I used the one that comes with the oil pan, what’s the size of the hex socket for that drain plug?
Why can't I see this video on your channel, I can only get to it from the link in the description. Just curious
what's up zach job miata guy!
Hello the tools used link is not working.
How can I get the tools? How can I find them?
Hey buddy you don't use the gasket only silicone?
Question if you have a gasket do I need to use a Any silicone???
Oh wtf you’re in donut now
Is a gasket better than gasket sealant or do both?
If I go to a garage to get a new oil pan installed, how long will the labour be?
I just installed mine, took me about 2 hours
I would wear eye protection :D live and learn, I did this and accidentally dripped brake cleaner in my eye,,,, now I'm cross eyed :D
Lol
are the bolts holding up the pan torque to yield? can i just use the stock ones?
Vw dealer quoted me 950 for this LMFAO

Lacy Petty-Washington oml bruh I hope not I just cracked my pan and I’m bouta get a quote tmro
I was quoted almost 900 in parts and labor for oil filter housing replacement on my 08 TT 2.0, hard pass. I replaced it with an ECS Tuning heavy duty housing for a fraction of the price lol
That’s cheap
Vw quoted me 595 for a new pan gasket and labor included
My Tiguan doesn’t have a oil level sensor but I bought the one with the cover will it be a problem
will this be the same for a 2015 passat 1.8L?
Once oil pan is off, how hard to replace the oil pump if needed?
What sealant did you use
What are 8 nuton meter seal Sr in pounds ??
Do you have to make sure all fo the oil is drained before taking off the oil pan? All I have to do is replace the gasket but I just changed my oil and I do not want to have to send the money for more oil.
Hi my touran fsi 2,0 i change my oil housing cap but it leaking at the top where I screw it in what ddt I do wrong
I was changing my oil pan on my 2014 Jetta and stripped one of the screws any solutions?
Is the oil pan reusable?
Like once you remove it, do you have to buy a new one every time? Or can you just slap it back on with more RTV?
You will want to scrape the old RTV off, but it can be reused.
Is the AWD models any different??
sorry to ask but i just got a vw gti s and i was woundering why vw uses a plastic oil pan in the first place

HOLY SHIT ITS ZACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea
What kind of Sealant is used?

Guess I didn’t need the rubber gasket I purchased! Lol oh well, replacing my pan when the parts arrive within the next week.
Lol, I’m realizing that as well, but it’s coming in so I’ll just install it lmao
The factory specs are 30 nm
You said is just 8nm. Which one is rigth?
Can i reuse the stock oil pan? & also while i was waiting for the gasket to dry i didnt know but i put oil in the car but didn’t crank the car till the gasket was set for an hour
Always wear appropriate eye protection while doing these jobs.
Woahhh, its Zach!
I ordered a steel pan for my 8v A3, then ordered the suggested magnetic drain plug from ecs and it doesn't fit....thanks guys...
Did the old plug fit?
You guys have anything for the 2019 Tiguan
Did you get a CEL after installation?
We had no check engine light after the install.
Why would you?
Does anyone know what the Rubber Part is that connects to the engine JUST above (verticallY) and adjacent to Bolt #15? I have a small leak coming from that.

This is much easier then an oil pan change on a 113 motor such as my MK6 Golf R.
My oil pan does have the sensor and I have a 2014 Vw cc rline 2.0t engine, can anyone tell me if I can use this pan
Came here to try and fix the wife’s car. Got hit with a mental flash bang when Zach was the one doing it.
I knew he looked familiar! Just didnt seem like the right channel
Any links or videos of o2 sensor installation
Sooo you guys do an oil pan swap video but no turbo swap...I know a guy who knows a guy that was going to do a k04 upgrade but you guys took too long and now he did the k04 on his own.

Pre Donut Media days? :)
How can I change the Aluminum Alloy Oil Pan Top section, does anybody have a manual to do that ?
“Few whacks with a mallet should break it loose”
*continues to whack over 10x and skips to edit*
💀
Can you drop it with oil still in it. My bolt is stripped
is it just me or is it impossible to find a “10 mm nut”. i dont want to wait on their kit to mail but i literally just need the 3 nuts for the oil level sensor

Yoooo I didn't know Zach used to work for ecs
How do you measure how tight you make them?
You need a torque wrench
Why no gasket?
Me here after I accidentally cracked me “oh shit that’s Zach”
Why not just replace it with a gasket instead of silicone ?
Silicone is the Gasket.
OG Donut media
Seems sketchy to put the silicone on the inside, why not put it on the outside of the bolt holes?
Where exactly is the oil pickup?
Its a tube which is most likely ln the lovest part of the pan
Do stuff in a 2017 scirocco 🙏🏻
Wish VW gave us the Scirocco here in the USA!
Didn't know Zach was part of ECS before Donut
Car doesn't start after replacement
This applies to a mk5 gli because I'm doing mine today.
I did it on my mk5 gti and it had 4 extra steps than this
Passat volkswagen 1.8 turbo Black pearl 1998 aeb engine
You say it takes 1 he to dry, but manufacturer says 9 hrs to cure
this guy is just so cute and hot. Oh he makes me melt. I wish i could meet him in person and snuggle with him.
why does he look familiar? 🤔
Byl jsem tu
Can you just do mine pls?
I didn’t show ur bolt steps tbh I was so lost so I was like f it I just couldn’t see it the same way in the picture so f it if drops ima ask a replacement from y’all with my warranty wish y’all included a picture of the shits

Do maintenance yourself. Only take it in if it’s engine or transmission related.
