    ► Since we had to replace the oil pan on our MK7 after smashing the oil pan (oops), we figured it'd be the perfect opportunity to show how to install a steel variant that should provide a little more protection for the undercarriage of your vehicle.
    Our guy Nate Vincent, driver of the #72 GTI TCR in the Pirelli World Challenge Series, walks us through it.

    Just FYI for anyone freaked out by all the warning lights in the dash: it is normal to get those after disconnecting the battery, they'll all go out after driving a bit
    Also, the pan is from a gen 1 ea888 (I heard)

    For anyone interested in doing this install, the REIN oil pan was the mk6 GTI OEM pan. If you buy this pan you need replacement hardware, as two of the bolts are sized differently on the mk6. If you plan on doing this installation, make sure to purchase replacement hardware as your current mk7 oil pan bolts wont all fit.

    Hello. I have 1.8 TSi CDAA engine (year 2010). Looking under the engine I can see there is a red rubber sealing on perimeter of lower oil pan (I have steel pan too). Did they use rubber sealing in past which did not require locktite? Or do I have to use locktite anyway? I checked other videos where they used plastic oil pan with rubber sealing and the also did not use any glue (just pressed the rubber sealing).
    Thanks

    If they cost-cut to that degree on such a critical area you can imagine what they do elsewhere.

      Although I’ve heard that since the oil pan is quite low on these cars, they’re made out of plastic since they’re prone to direct hits. Instead of a metal oil pan ripping out the threads of the aluminum block and possibly cracking it, the plastic pan just cracks.
      People who have had harder hits with metal upgrades say the same thing as well. I’m going to go for a metal shield instead of an upgraded oil pan.

      It is generally a good practice to tight the bolts in a star/cross pattern, yes.

    This will void the warranty ?

    • @Nelbone
      @Nelbone 3 месяца назад

      The answer is the same every time. If the dealership can determine the failure is directly responsible for your claim, then yes. Example, a tune probably won’t have an effect on a warranty claim about an infotainment system issue.

    What are the requirements to tighten the bolts down on the oil pan? How much foot per lbs?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  4 года назад

      Should be around 6 foot pounds, not a whole lot, you can strip the block pretty easily.
