When done correctly, installing an HID conversion kit is simple and affordable. TRS demonstrates how to install an HID conversion kit with a relay harness in a few easy-to-follow steps.
******************************
Complete Kit
In this video, we install the new Morimoto Elite HID system on a 2013 Ford Fusion using our 3Five ballasts, XB35 H11 5000K bulbs, and heavy-duty relay harnesses or optional standalone Canbus relay harnesses. Kits feature all the necessary parts and components, including bolts and screws that are used to attach the bracket to the ballasts for optimal heat management and grounding. There is also a tester that comes with the kit that is used to check the ballasts during installation.
******************************
Key Steps
The first step to learning how to install HID kits with a relay harness is removing the bumper to gain access to the headlights. Next, you’ll need to determine the type of headlight housings you’re working with and if you’re going to have to modify the caps on the back of the unit. If so, you’ll need to drill a small hole in the cap so the relay harnesses can pass through to the ballast when sealed.
******************************
Wiring Harnesses
A lot of customers ask us, “Do I need a relay harness for my HID kit?” Our answer is an emphatic yes! The relay harness is responsible for precision power and signal delivery to the new components you are installing. It can also help eliminate flickering and bypass “bulb out” warnings caused by Canbus systems. The standalone Canbus harnesses used in this video feature smart technology capable of fooling systems designed to deter lighting modifications into thinking nothing has changed.

factory HID kits in cars all run 4300k bulbs. Aftermarket companies or other HID kit's will sell ~5000k because it gives off a slightly more crisp white/bluish hue to it. Companies (like TRS) who put time and money into high quality parts will opt for aftermarket 4300k bulbs to get them as OEM as possible. At the end of the day, it's up to you what you choose.
So can I just use a canbus harness instead of a relay harness ? ? Are converters needed at all ? Or can I just use the hid kit and a canbus harness anti flicker ?
I put hids in my 2014 fusion and the come on and go right back off do I need the harness or the canbus things?
Jeeezzzzz!!! No headlight alignment after re-installing them??? After seeing the extensive process we do at the assembly plant to align headlights, bumpers grills etc, you would not want to remove anything from your car...lol
Stupid question but how do you know what to choose as far as stand alone can-bus or the second option with the relay? I have a 08 Audi A3 halogen bulbs! But I've heard crazy stories of hid kits shortening out components. Any advise would be appreciated it! Thanks in advance. Ps. What's better for my car 35 w or 50w
I have a 2013 Ford fusion can I use the 55 watt ballasts with the standalone canbus?
I'm interested on purchasing this kit for my 2012 Ford Fusion Sport. Would this setup work in my vehicle as well? I like the simplicity and clean look after the install!
can i use 100w ballast on 35w hid bulb....???? Will it work well..??
JUST BOUGHT A 2013 FUSION. I HAVE A QUESTION BE FOR A PLACE AN HID T.R.S ORDER. SO WITH THE KIT I DO REQUIRE A STANDALONE CAM-BUS OR A RELAY HARNESS? THANK YOU
Which set of morimoto hid kit will be the best for a 2011 civic? Also the hd relay or canbus?
im looking for ml350 2012 h7 hid kit i try one before and the light is blink every few second..so what do i need thank and do you have those kit that i can buy.
Did you use 11A bulb or H11B? Thank you
How do you disable the drl?
this is a great looking kit. i wish i knew if my new car will need a wire harness. my old car did. i'm just a bit worried about how well HIDs will work with my daytime running lights. i guess i buy everything that i think i need and hook it all up. it seems like a bit of a nightmare finding places for wires, ballasts, and grounds.
Most of the time, the "Brights" are used as the daytime running lights but sends lower voltage during those times.
if i don't plug the wire near bulb, no problem?
I've purchased one of these kits (35w), and standalone canbus, but I sometimes the lights doesn't light up (keeps flickering and flashing, and I also get error messages on the panel). Should I try one of these "resistors" or "capacitors"?? I own a VW Golf Mk7
Get the resister for it my buddy 08 3 series had the same problem
So the 4300K will give out that white factory light look? I always thought it was the 5000K, maybe I'm wrong.
I am getting an Intermittent firing on My kit for my 2013 fusion :/
For the oem input on the harness do u plug into your car's headlight wiring harness or directly to the headlight?
To the wiring harness which powers the original halogen light bulb
i isntalled my hids on my 2014 ford fusion... i used the same relay harness you show here... but i have flickering headlights when ever i use the turning signals.
i did not use any capacitor links... do you think i need one and did you use a caplink on this install?
Gerardo Montoya-Puga I have this same problem. How did you fix yours?
Where/how is the cutoff after the upgrade?
I want to know what kits or parts will I need to install your hids on a 2012 FORD FOCUS becouse what u guys showing here is a fusion.
He even said ford Focus and the description it says Fusion ROFL xD.
What about the MOPAR LOW BEAM: MORIMOTO ELITE HID SYSTEM kit for my DART 2014 ? less expensive than the RAM (4 resistors) kit and should also work according to your site. pls confirm, thanks
depends on if you projectors i think. my buddy has a '13 ram without the 4 resistors. I have the '15 that does come with it.
Wait wait.. Ok so I want to purchase from you guys but I'm not understanding your installation here: 6:05
You are routing the stock switch harness into the stand alone, then to the ballast... and then from the ballast to the lights?
Shouldn't the ballast get power from a relay harness to avoid damaging the stock harness?
I have a 2012 Ford Focus and my current setup consists of a relay harness and 2 resistors to prevent the bulb fault error.
Would the standalones take place of my resistors or am I missing something in the connections?
I don't understand how to incorporate those in the connection as a whole.
Can you help me understand what all I would need from you guys for your kit?
It might help to take a look at the different diagrams we have: www.theretrofitsource.com/core/media/media.nl?id=1718927&c=5129608&h=yw4eOuIe7Cdq7-z928LnFrdS3LBj17tIuow6xZosknPYLODn
The setup of the standalone can depend on what you are installing it for.
If you have any questions after looking at the diagram, please send us an email or give us a call so we can help further.

It's a fusion, you called it a focus at 0:15 :p
so if your usuing the HD harness do you still need to use the canbus amplifiers?
+alvarezbar1 No, just one or the other
I have an 09 Cadillac CTS and i have aftermarket SPEC-D Tuning headlights for it, They use H1 bulbs and I wanted to replace the crappy stock bulb in them for an HID kit, would you recommend a hd relay or a canbus? Also, would the H1 HID's fit in the headlights? I heard you had to get a retrofit kit to get them to fit.
Spend a little time and money and get the retro quick setup from them. Instead of the crappy projector you have you'll get a high end one.

I bought the 55w Innovative hid kit with relay from Amazon. Do I still need the error free adapter cable?
Is this the same at installing h7 morimoto elite with anti flicker and euro adapters to a BMW 2014 F30 328i ??
It's similar, but different. If you use the anti-flicker, you don't use the relay harness to connect to the battery. That will just plug right into the factory wiring.
Do I need a harness for a 2016 Tacoma? I previously had onex 55w and didn't use a harness and was completely okay for 3yrs
A relay harness is not always needed, but we always highly recommend installing one as it's an extra safety precaution.
Here's a great article about this topic:
gtrlighting.com/blog/do-i-need-a-relay-harness-and-how-do-you-install-it/#:~:text=A%20Relay%20Wiring%20Harness%20utilizes,positive%20terminal%20on%20the%20battery.&text=An%20HID%20wiring%20harness%20for,to%20a%20successful%20HID%20installation.
Would the 55W have any heating issues like melting the bulb housing?
+Ray G never a problem unless its a really tiny housing or fog light
+Ray G I've been using mine in an F150 with Spyder headlights for about 3 years now. Still using original bulbs. They don't seem to have an issue in my retrofit projectors. I imagine in factory lights they will be okay but a projector is recommended..
Hey, where did u get the female connector? I been trying to get it but none stores have them.
We have these available on our website!

Please! the insulator tube of the xenon bulb h7 is meant to be facing down in the projector? The bulb in the projector is hold by a clip so it can be moved and positioned in several ways.
see reply below
TheRetrofitSource Inc I have read the whole comments list time and I am not able to see it. Please Just let me know if it is facing down or up. Thanks
where or what website can I buy the morimito HID Kit ?
The Retrofit Source . Com
Can i get your stuff in Serbia , i can only find the projectors but no bulbs or anythig like that, are they even original? They are about 40 to 70 euro ? You can direct message me if you can't write prices here Please
55w running hot,is there any chance to melt headlight housing?
very unlikely - unless its a small fog light housing there's low risk of melting with 55w as long as its installed properly.
@@RetrofitSource
Using 55w ballsat with 6500k bulbs is ok ?
It's true it will reduce it to 5500 ?
And by the way,my previous halogen bulb was 60 watt
So i have concerns regarding heating, wire melting ?
No tape on the pins connected? They’re going to ground out sooner or later ? I just did a retrofit to my 2013 fusion titanium with Morimoto FX-R 3” night and day difference the stock fusion projectors are possibly the worst for cars that year.
The connectors should protect the pins just fine, glad to hear you like those projectors! If there is anything else we can do for you, let us know! Have a good one!
Would the H11 extreme fits a 2016 highlander?
+chickieboi089 H11B will, yes
How do you get rid of the yellow light next to the hid i think its the highbeam/parking light
You can probably switch it out for an LED bulb if you're not wanting the yellow color
Hi, I removed a cheap hid kit from my Dart 2014 because "burn bulb" and flickering issues and now I am searching for a best hid kit... will your 9006 HID CAN + Capacitor be the solution? also 100% no errors on my dash panel? I also notice bad light output with the cheap 35W kit (I have OEM projectors), Do you believe Morimoto kit will have more light output than cheap ones? or need 55W kit to really notice good difference. thanks for the help. I'm in mexico, ready to buy, just need to be sure will work. (btw I did use the resistors, and even with them I saw flickering on 1 light only).
+J Smith This is the kit you need for your Dart, works perfectly, tested and verified by many owners here in the USA
www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems/morimoto-elite-hid-system-15-dodge-ram-low-beam.html
+The Retrofit Source Inc Thank you, is quite expensive, is RAM same bulb than DART? also Do I need everything in order to have it right? (4 resistors, dual relay, capacitors, ...) :S also I searched something about OSRAM bulbs, do you have those new OSRAM bulbs that offer 20% more light and are clear white/blue on road? and 1000% original with OEM boxing and warranty from OSRAM? if so then I will purchase asap :) thanks!
+J Smith
Osram does not make 9012 HID bulbs...so wherever you saw that was selling a fake product.
The Morimoto XB HID Bulbs are as close to original equipment spec as possible, produce nearly the same lumens and have the same lifespan as the popular Osram CBI
But yes, the kit is expensive, because you pay for what you get!
I have a 2012 ford fusion with DRL'S and I'm looking for a hid kit that's compatible with my DRL'S any suggestions on what to get
Jonathan A Did you have dash headlight warning?
Jonathan mine is a 07 and i got the error
What's the dash warning?
Will this work on a 2016 Fusion?
I have a 2015 and put hids 2013+ are basically the exact same id say yes
Can you please indicate where can i buy that Harness?
Someone?
The standalone canbus harness can be found here: www.theretrofitsource.com/canbus-morimoto-standalone.html
We have updated the harness since this video was shot. So it does look slightly different.
Do I need the HD relay to make it work?
It is highly recommended to install the relay with these lights.
Berapaan bos buat inova
Are the Morimoto hid are high quality products?
+gil zur Absolutely, best quality in the aftermarket!
Yes they are good quality at a good price.
Me and my brother both replaced our oem xenon bulbs on our bmw's with Morimoto 3five D1S type bulbs at 5000K. Not only were the Morimoto bulbs brighter than my oem bulbs, which were brand new oem's btw, but i was able to pick the color I wanted. I went with 5000K over the oem 4300K. Gives it a slightly "blue'r" hue, but still bright white light.
Now technically 4300K puts out more light than an equivalent 5000K bulb, but the Morimoto bulbs are just so much better than the oem osram xenarc bulbs we had. We both have adaptive headlights(projectors swivel with steering), no errors. Just brighter, more crisp light, and i think even quicker start up.
I have a BMW 335i and my bro has a BMW 535Xi. Both cars are wayy brighter with the new bulbs and like i said no problems, no dashboard errors.
My cousin has a full Morimoto 3five HID kit in his G35 coupe. Came with ballast, bulb, and brackets. No problems, been over a year now.
Where is the wire that controls the high beam?
You connect your high beam to the factory wiring. The relay harness only powers the low beam circuit
how did you install the relay harness? I have the same car but need a relay harness for the lights to come on
+chandler paden we used our standalone canbus harnesses
Would've been helpful to see the beam pattern on a sedan.
What sedan are you referring too? This was just an install video for the HID kit, not a specific vehicle.
@@RetrofitSource I understand. Thank you for responding. 2010 Honda Accord for me (spec d aftermarket headlight assembly-morimoto xB 35's). Is there such a thing as bad projectors? I'm not impressed with my beam pattern or road illuminosity 😑. maybe my hid bulbs are not aimed properly? Is that a thing in projectors? Bad aiming?
That could be a problem with the bulb alignment, but it is hard to say. Especially being that you have aftermarket headlight housings, that may take a little more digging to find the issue. Shoot us an email and we should be able to get you taken care of no problem! Support@TheRetrofitSource.com
I hate how newer cars makes it impossible to just replace headlight bulbs without removing something a bumper or tire.
Or a F**KING engine.. God they want us to waste time or money to have someone else do that. I guess time is worth less since I always do it myself.
I thought you needed to install HIDs within a projector? It looks like these were installed in a halogen reflector housing? Am I missing something.
I'm thinking about performing an upgrade like this, too......is there an issue with putting HID's in the factory housing of a 2013 fusion?
Thx for the blunt ... feedback. I don't know, for some reason part of me was thinking that they were made-to-look-like projector housings.....why would they put halogens in a projector housing? What benefit does it have? Halogens shine the same regardless of and without being installed in a projector housing, right? Maybe because they wanted it to look cool? Well, if that's the case, if style was all they intended, then it would make sense that they built the car with a "projector-like" housing and not REAL projectors. It just didn't/doesn't make sense to me why the vehicle doesn't come standard (at least on a Titanium and SE edition) with HID's. But, at least, from what you're saying, there's only one style of projector housing and Ford doesn't make housings that are made-to-look-like projectors. I can live with that.
Jonathan A I noticed a Fusion today that had Audi-like LED's. It was VERY impressive
I think he was referring to the fact it's a bad idea to put xenon bulbs in a halogen housing, regardless of if it's a projector or not.
I have heard of several people burning the insides of their housings. You need a proper HID projector housing.
No you are right. It's a bad idea to put xenon bulbs in a halogen housing.
Where's the rest of the video?? Where's how's the harness system wire up? I seen nothing about the harness, it looks like you didn't even use it ....?
There is no "rest" they used the stand alone, which is the little box that they plugged into the ballast.. it used the stock harness, not an extra relay harness.
Ok
Wow, so many industry experts on HID instillation commenting on this video but I can’t seem to find any of their videos showing them doing this for a living...🤣. Isn’t that veeeard...?
👆👆👆
Some of this info is dated.
It is indeed, we would not suggest following this particular guide for reference. We will replace it with a new version early in 2019
You said Ford Focus, that's a Fusion
Sorry about that, We drop the wrong F words sometimes!
Useless....where the hell is the end result????
