Hello , I have a question I own a 1991vw golf GTI and I wonder what options you have for my car I really want to do something different please lmk thanks for all the info you shared 🙏🏻 Oh by the way the headlights are Hella 7" round 😅
You have a couple of solid upgrade paths depending on what you're hoping to achieve. If you're interested in something unique and custom, a retrofit could be an exciting route, allowing you to personalize your setup. Retrofitting, however, can be a bit more complex when working with sealed beam headlights, and the options largely depend on how much space you have available behind the headlight. On the other hand, if you're looking for a straightforward upgrade, there are many 7" round headlights on the market that could fit well with minimal hassle. Most of these headlights use H4 connectors, so if your current setup uses 9004, an adapter from 9004 to H4 can make the switch easy. Feel free to let us know which direction you're leaning towards, and we'd be happy to discuss further details or guide you on the best option for your goals. retrofit is the way to go, I have seen many people just don't know better and just put an HID or LED bulb in their halogen reflector headlights and blinding everyone. Yes, it is bright but the light is scattered all of over the place, with a retrofit projector lenses you will have that beautiful sharp and bright intense cut off line which won't blind oncoming traffic. My brother's car is retrofitted with projector lenses and at one time in the intersection during red traffic light, he was driving. and next to him a guy with no retrofit just had a HID installed inside his reflector headlights...his headlights, light up the whole surface of the car in front him, while my brother's light was pointing to the right place with bright intense and sharp cut off line to the car in front of him. I feel sorry for the guy who drive in front of this clueless guy with HID on reflector based headlights lol. My brother even told me that guy with HID on reflector headlights , rolled down his window and asked my brother, why his headlight's beam pattern looks so much clean and had a cut off line while his HID just throws a bright blob to the car in front of him lol. My brother just smiled and winked to him and drove off, once the traffic light turned green. It really shows how clueless that guy was.

They have h1 projector low beams and reflector high beams, but when i started my journey into upgrading my headlights for better performance, i didn't get the correct led bulbs that would focus well inside the housings. The ligh scatters and makes it very hard to see and im sure im blinding people as well. The mechanic i took it to was not very professional and just intalled them without calibrating anything or without helping me to choose the right bulbs. So what my question is, is would it be possible to replace the h1 projector lowbeam in my aftermarket headlights with a morimoto bi-led projector? Because i would like to take it to an actual professional to do such a thing, but if that's not possible then maybe i should try hid bulbs or a different led bulb.

Why some car headlight projectors no matter you are viewing it from looks always black, and some not ??My car has factory projector headlights, but they are not black...only sometimes viewing it from strange angle looks black ?
It has to do with the internals of the projector and the headlight itself. The inside of the projector can reflect colors off of the inner chrome portion.
Hi, i bought a plug and play projector lens for my 1998 jetta TDI. I know this isn't technically a retrofit but I'm looking at what kind of bulb setup to use. Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards a high quality LED
Great video! One question. Is it possible to convert a car's headlight that comes with H7 for low and H1 for highbeam to a Bi-Xenon using the Morimoto Mini D2S 5.0. Tons of people have told me to keep it separately as it comes from factory, using the hid projector for the low beam and keep H1 with a proper LED Bulb as the SV4 but I really want to have both low and high beam in one HID Bulb
Yes you can do that. Most people do. Just tie your high beam wiring from the projector to your factory high beam wiring. At that point you can either install a LED bulb in the high beam, leave it stock or do something else. It’s totally up to you!
Hello Hyundia Sonata 2011 I drive back & forth from Pennsylvania 2 NYC. I leave about 12am & arrive there about 4am Which headlight should I buy? Led or Hud?

The lens and the sharp edge of the cutoff shield cause light to bend and disperse, splitting into its constituent colors, similar to how a prism works. This phenomenon, known as chromatic aberration, occurs because different wavelengths (colors) of light bend by different amounts. Blue light bends more than red light, causing the blue hue to be visible at the top edge of the cutoff. While the blue line is primarily an optical artifact, it is often considered aesthetically pleasing and a sign of high-quality projector headlights.

Hi im thinking of changing my projectors in my mkiv supra rhd as supra's lack light output due the oem projectors. Can you buy headlight housings that already have projectors in them and you don't have to do all this work? Looking to get Nice headlights for my 01 3rd gen 4runner
Yes and no. Depends where you get these already built in projectors. The ones that are made for you car and that are cheap brand new for a pair for anywhere between $400-$800 are usually the fake projectors. Those will use the normal bulbs that come with your car and the projectors will be just as good as the normal headlights. Which really aren't real projectors. Now if you buy a housing headlight from a higher trim of your car, say like the ones that have leather seat and navigation and such usually have real projectors and you could find some from a junk yard and get this to "drop in". The other problem with those is that you would probably need the correct wiring to go with them which then you gotta worry about that as well... Sometimes. Sometimes they just plug in as the ballast is usually built into the headlight housing. For me, I wound rather do it this way, and have for 2 cars so far and it's a nice DIY to do. If you're into that stuff. Either way you will be doing some DIY with this. Unless you are lucky and find the headlight housing with built in ballast then it's basically plug and play
My vehicle came with projector low beams, and reflector high beams. Would replacing the low beams with bi-xenon projectors improve my light output? And also, are they EU-legal?

Just imagine a 2012 impala design with a modern touch to make it look brand new. Everyone looking at your car like "WHEN DID THAT COME OUT😧😧?" 😏🤣
Great video guys. I've been looking at your Morimoto MLed 2.0 projectors for my 13 Silverado. Would you care to explain what the optional splitters are for the projectors? I didn't find any information about this. Thanks!
Those splitters are for dual beam applications that use one bulb for both low and high beam. Since your Silverado takes an H11 and a 9005 bulb, you do not need them.
*no it's not. The plastics and adhesives will off gas oils that are toxic because as you can assume they are not "food safe" materials. It's got a real low chance of giving your family cancer but it's not a great idea.

Problem I'm having with my jeep grand cherokee retrofit is since they were h11 bulbs I had the trim where the bulb went, so there's space in between the projector itself and the reflector housing hole so the high beam and low beam are not aligned.
if you're talking about a gap between the projector and reflector once he fits the threaded shaft through the hole there is a rubber grommet in the projector box to allow better fitment against the reflector.
@@RetrofitSource I'm talking the gap between the threaded shaft and bulb hole that had to be sanded down to fit the projector. Theres a 1/8" space around the shaft that causes the projector to move around and not be center with the reflector which causes the projector to be level but the high beam shines up.
OEM vs. Aftermarket... in HIDs I'm looking for a ballast that has good RF shielding stop noise in my radios (cb, 2 way, etc), I know the RF shielding is good in oem's but what about the Morimoto??
Like all modern OEM ballasts: the XB has relocated igniters far closer to the HID bulb. The lack of high voltage transmitted through wiring drastically reduces EMI/RFI (radio interference). Total system reliability is also improved by shielding the main circuit board from the static produced by these high voltage bursts on start up.
One thing I am still unclear on is, will the actual headlight lens affect anything, mine has a bunch of lines and patterns, not a clear lens, does that make a difference? Oh also, what about bi led projector retrofit seems newer tech again, would that work better in my old light?
A bi-led projector will work for practically any vehicle. New or old. It really depends on how bad your lens is. If it's completely hazed over, that will certainly affect the light output. If it's just a few scratches here and there, it won't really affect it.
@@RetrofitSource I wasn't referring to scratches or a damaged lens, I eventually found out it's called a fluted lens, they are all the lines I was talking about, they help spread the light out. Will that still work with a led projector style? How close would I want the projector lens to get to the inside of my headlight lens?
Ahh, I see. Since you have a fluted lens, that will affect the light output regardless of what you install. LED/HID projector or LED/HID kits. You'll still see a pretty major increase in light output, but not near as much as if you didn't have a fluted lens. While you can sand the fluting down, it's honestly very time consuming to do. I would recommend finding an aftermarket headlight that does not have fluting, and then installing your projector of choice in the new headlights. You'll have significantly better light output.
@@RetrofitSource unfortunately not sure that would work even if I found the same size because it's a specific shape, it's angled back to flow with the angle of the fairing so it's deeper at the bottom. And, the lens is glass, so I'm assuming sanding and polishering lol are also not an option. I guess all I can do is throw a bi led projector, halo and demon eye at it and see what happens. Do you know if I can order any of that in a single kit for single light?
We don't have any parts a singles on our website, but we can put something together for you! Shoot us an email, and we'll get to work on it. Support@TheRetrofitSource.com
I actually have an aftermarket headlight housing for my Pontiac G6. The projectors in these headlights are horrible and have absolutely horrendous beam. They are quite literally a half circle. And do not have any width to them. In the future I plan on replacing them with a mini H1 kit.
Im new to this stuff and anybody that can help i would appreciate it. I want to change the projectors on my 2006 Daytona 675 because the lenses broke from an accident. The stock size for the lens in the bike is 2.5”. While i was thinking of just changing the lens i thought of replacing the projectors because the left projector is the low beam and the right one is used as a high beam. I want to have both of them on for low and i saw that there is solenoid switches on these aftermarket projectors to turn them into high beam so i would have way more light for both low and high beam. My issue is that i see all these being hid lenses so would i have to get hid bulbs to run in these projectors? Is there a way to run normal LEDs in these projector housings instead of having to buy HIDs? Thanks in advance
If your car come with a D2s HID system, and you use a D2s projector, then you can use the same HID kit. If you go to a projector that utilizes a different bulb, then you'll need an HID kit that matches with that bulb.

Ok, so ill be putting some projectors that house some h1 bulbs in my 8th gen honda which bixenon hi/lo relay harness do I go for one for h1 bulbs or one for the stock bulbs of my car?
You will need to get a bi-xenon harness that matches your OEM bulbs.
@@RetrofitSource ok cool thanks for replying
I have h7 in my low beam. These retrofit projectors use h1 HID in them. How do I connect my low beam h7 coupler to this h1 HID bulb?
We have adapters for this!
This depends on what type of the bulb the headlight needs, give us a call and we can help. 404-220-7940

What would be the total cost for the projector and the HID kit as shown in the video? Thank you!

@@RetrofitSource Thanks for answer! Looking forward to do it the next month.

What is that blue line effect that happens on projector retrofits?
The lens and the sharp edge of the cutoff shield cause light to bend and disperse, splitting into its constituent colors, similar to how a prism works. This phenomenon, known as chromatic aberration, occurs because different wavelengths (colors) of light bend by different amounts. Blue light bends more than red light, causing the blue hue to be visible at the top edge of the cutoff. While the blue line is primarily an optical artifact, it is often considered aesthetically pleasing and a sign of high-quality projector headlights.

@@RetrofitSource do u have a facebook page or email i can message on as im in the uk
so if i get projectors then i can paint the reflectors black instead of having them chrome right?
That is 110% correct! If you are using a projector, the reflector is no longer needed.
@@RetrofitSource awesome, also do you know if i would need the hi/low beam shutters on the projectors for my 14 silverado?
This function is built into the projectors!
What about retrofitting bi-xenon to a car with stock projectors? I have only seen tutorials on installing in to reflector housings and no swap-outs
Swap outs are super popular and can be an awesome upgrade.
@@RetrofitSource Any ETA on writing up instructions for a swap? The manuals linked for the projectors I would get only refer to installing in a reflector
No ETA at the moment, Each Headlight is so different. If you send us an email we might be able to help you out with some more specific instructions!
Yes, replacing your OE projector with one of Morimoto's will greatly improve your output. Shoot an email to our customer service team to help you find out which one will best suit your needs! Support@theretrofitsource.com

After I pay it off I'm replacing it with a V8 maybe or just another V6. I'm gonna replace the old stereo with a flat touch screen replace the headlights and do a custom design which this video definitely helped with. Want to put a push start fob in there but I've been told that it's not DIY so might take it somewhere for that get the speedometer and everything replaced to LED put custom side mirrors with blinker light and maybe change backlights maybe not and then get a new paint job on it make it look crisp and new. Just imagine a 2012 impala design with a modern touch to make it look brand new. Everyone looking at your car like "WHEN DID THAT COME OUT😧😧?" 😏🤣
Man, that sounds like it'll be really great!
Need 100w ballast you guys have it ?
We do not, 100w would likely burn up wiring and melt your housings unless its something like an old Hella reflector.
I noticed almost nowhere are the projector retrofits rectangular in shape. Is that hard to build?
That is not a typical shape for most headlights and projectors. You can get a square-shaped shroud, but it won't be the same as a rectangle.
@@RetrofitSource Thanks but u see those in cars like the newer mercedes or the audi's. Would that maybe be a possibility in the future?
Great video guys. I've been looking at your Morimoto MLed 2.0 projectors for my 13 Silverado. Would you care to explain what the optional splitters are for the projectors? I didn't find any information about this. Thanks!
Those splitters are for dual beam applications that use one bulb for both low and high beam. Since your Silverado takes an H11 and a 9005 bulb, you do not need them.

is it safe to bake in your home oven without adding chemicals to your family turkey dinner?
yes it is
*no it's not. The plastics and adhesives will off gas oils that are toxic because as you can assume they are not "food safe" materials. It's got a real low chance of giving your family cancer but it's not a great idea.

Can I used led bulbs rather than hid ??
Nope! LED bulbs won't fit and they will result in less light output.
Thank you for detailed video!👍👍. One question. Suppose I decide to go back to my halogen/LED light, can I put halogen/LED in any bi-xenon projector?
You could, But HID will outperform them by a significant amount.
Not if you've butchered your lens in the process...
very informative and well explained. thanks!
Thank you for the support, I am glad that you found this video helpful!
What projector do you recommend for a 2001 Toyota 4Runner
I would recommend going with the Mini D2S 5.0 projectors for that vehicle, I have linked that kit for you here: www.theretrofitsource.com/bixenon-morimoto-mini-d2s-stage-3-CRK-D2S?quantity=1
@@RetrofitSource appreciate the information I'll look those up! 👍

Okay, so If I buy a projector for my headlines I'll also need to purchase a balas for it ??
Yes, you'll need a full HID kit as well.
The car comes with oem hid headlights,
If your car come with a D2s HID system, and you use a D2s projector, then you can use the same HID kit. If you go to a projector that utilizes a different bulb, then you'll need an HID kit that matches with that bulb.
