This episode we transform the front of the Patrol and bring it into the modern era with a very simple and cost effective mod! Not only does this look insane but it also brings the Patrol into the modern era!
Its actually crazy what a difference this mod made & once we finish off the front end it will all tie in perfectly, KEEEN!!
Also Changed up the editing style a fair bit in this so let me know if you enjoyed it! Cheers guys!

Your the only 4x4 channel I still watch. Like I have said in other videos your budget friendly and realistic approach without biased product reviews makes me happy. Just great editing and all around absolute legend.
Thanks heaps David, that’s a really nice comment 😆 glad you’re enjoying the episodes!!
@@BigBlackClock86imma have to check out what kinda suspension this is, but whether or not $10k is budget is kinda relative. Depends what you want it to do.
If you're looking to hit big whoops and jumps that might be pretty reasonable.
I know I've designed and parted out a 4-link that doesn't need to be as strong as that kinda thing and the parts, including relocating the gas tank, were around $2k, and that was with much less expensive shocks than you'd want for that kinda thing, since this was for a drift truck rather than a desert truck. I could see doing all four wheels in a beefier way costing $10k eeeeasily.
just a tip for painting over the chrome you don’t even have to paint at all! if you put the parts in a bucket fully submerged in concentrated zep degreaser it actually strips off the chrome and leave you with black!
Yoooo MVP 👌👌👌
Yoo that's a good idea!
Hmmmm so if I did this to my windowsills chrome on my accord it should black it out...? I was thinking to just spray plastidip on it incase u wanna go back chrome
@@hakimdurand8427 I actually went with the vinyl strips. Found on Amazon, 4"x48" black rolls. I went with gloss black and it matches the body almost perfectly. You can always remove it whenever you want and it'll last for a good while. If you do decide to take this route, be extra cautious with cutting along the window base. I cut through a couple spots of that rubber strip that seals against the window and it drives me crazy lol. Just a suggestion!
When doing plastics, you should always use a adhesion promoter before using a primer or sealer that way it is guaranteed to stick and not have cracking (what you saw)
Thats what plastic primer is a adhesion promoter, if u put the plastic primer on too heavy it will crack
Love the new style of editing! Production has really gone up from back in the day 🤙🏽
Thanks for the input Jake!! I’m tryna pump it up a bit, genuinely enjoyed making this episode and doing the voice over!! 🤘
Couple of pointers about the paint
Lacquer based primer/paint won't mix with enamels as you discovered so just verify what type you are buying to keep things compatible
The paint job may have been dried completely but most paints need an additional cure time as well. This is important because the curing process can release gasses (off-gassing) that will haze the inside of the housing lenses and once they are hazed you'll never get them looking mint again. I usually bake painted parts in an oven at 200F for a few hours to expedite that process
That’s great advice mate!! Hopfully others will see! Thanks so much!
How can he bake the Headlights for that long? They’re probably gonna melt.
@@Mopar_illmatic not at 200 fahrenheit. Keep in mind I bake the painted parts, not the lens.
Looks bloody mint bro. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Thanks chris
Use the heatgun for your heatshrink next time stops the heatshrink from burning also get some glue lined heatshrink works much better outside of the cab keeping the water out i picked up a assorted box for like 40 bucks from autobarn
great job on these, I did my own as well for my 4runner (hilux surf) its an easy and rewarding project. for the chromed plastics you can actually just dunk them in purple power for a little bit and itll strip all the chrome off
Love Bi-led projector lens❤
I would love to see the light output in the road 🙌
Great episode, good coverage on the headlight upgrade. She looks mint😎👍
Thanks legend!! Appreciate that!
Great work, really enjoy your DIY episodes as you break everything down very well. Looks great with the upgrade
Thanks Luke!!
"Sparky boom booms"...nice.
I reckon the sanded back look on the chrome looked brilliant. Some clear over the top, job done.
I was hoping to see low bean/high beam action :( perhaps on another episode?
Nice job though - they do look different. Not sure what I prefer, but it is your 4b after all!🤔
Thanks for the step by step and pointers to remove the clear covers. The cardboard oven is effective, so thumbs up and thanks.
I like the look with the white light on! Can’t wait to see it all tie in with the barwork I have!
@@RoamLyfe There is always one thing the viewer forgets, and you did mention it in the vid!
This is my design that i made 3 years ago on my 2008 patrol
Absolutely crushed it mate, new editing style is mint I love it! Like all 68 other comments have said so far you’ve come a long way since day one mate 🤙🏼
Thanks legend! Appreciate it a lot!
Keen to collab one day 🔥
@@RoamLyfe Would be epic mate! Keen for that as well 🤙🏼
Doing this next week, im on school holidays finally and im pulling my prado 120s bullbar off, then hesdkights out, then grille out, and tgen rhino rack off. Just ordered some angry eye BILED bushdoof 3 inch headlights and they come in 4 days hopefully. Bullbars gonna go gloss black and then roof rack is getting resprayed. Same with the grille, also getting gloss black, and then the headlights are also going gloss black with the bushdoof headlights. And i also have their 6ft RGB whip to go with it, cant wait for the lift kit to come too. The 0 offset 16 inch ATI beadlocks and 33 inch nitto ridge grappler sare also gonna make her look mint.
The one thing I enjoy about your content is that's so achievable for all of us. The new editing is mint to. Hope your channel blows up because you diffently deserve it.
Thanks heaps dude! Means a lot!!
I’ll always stay true to approaching shit at a basic level ! I want to show everyone to jsut have a crack and build shit haha
@@RoamLyfe it has honestly made me want to just tackle fab projects. Keep being you and I reckon you'll end up big in no time
sick lights!
You can definitely use a drill to screw them on faster, just use one where you can change the amount of torque and put it on a low setting and just hand tighten.
bogand up to the max
Love the video mate just a note I forgot the name of the spray on stripper but you can get one that will take that chrome off. Ones off, get some model paint that has primer in it will make your life hell of a lot easier whilst giving you a better finish.
Fuck, wish I knew that!! Next time I’ll have to look into that!
Seen this rig go past me on wednesday near the sippy downs exit. Looks mint on the road
Waiting For My Projector Retro Fit In The Mail, I Think I Have Watched This Video About 30 Times Just Trying To Study Every Little Thing About This Before I Give It A Crack 😂😂
Tip for you don't use silicon, but flashing sealant, better adhesion and flexibility, and heat cold resistance. Overall looks great though!
Thanks for the tip dude! I’m always a bit sus on silicone as it gasses a lot! Last time I used the gas destroyed me lenses from the inside, delaminated them
@@RoamLyfe of course, I've been fixing cars and homes my whole life, there's always new products and things to learn. I've learned to stay away from sicon adhesive on automotive unless I'm in a jam and need it temporarily.
Maaaate - one of the best vlog of this process I have seen...........and I have watched a few before diving in to do this myself. Thanks so much!
if the chrome bits are black plastic underneath you can let sit in Zep industrial de-greaser to eat the chrome, turning the part black.
i like how you make cool mods to the car while somewhat cheap
I'm going to try this with Cerakote C.
Came out really good mate! Will definitely watch this again when my gf gets a 4x4 🤘🏻
Thanks bro, it was the tutorial I now I know what needs to be done.
Hey guys, has anyone done this with an oven. Is so, what temp and for how long ?
Yer ok, I am sold on them haha. Great content mate, keep it up!
Thanks legend!!
Looks unreal bro ! Will have to get you round to do mine 😅😂 quality editing aswell man love the episode
😆😆😆 thanks legend!
Great video. I'm actually looking to do this to my ranger. But I've been too hesitant to do it myself. Btw love the bogan oven
Also love the new editing
What an effort! Does look good, but how much did you save DIY? Just need to swap out the standard parkers to LED's to match then 👌
I love the content of the channel 😎😎😎
Thanks Ben!
Love the vids mate keep it up, just as good as might car mods and skid factory, all ways keeping simple and easy to understand
Thanks heaps mate that means a lot!
Looks so sick great job I'd love to do that on my d40 but I'm just not confident enough I could pull it off.
Now you should paint the taillights to match 👌
Rate the editing style, this vid is sick! I assume the new lights don’t rely on the reflector behind to shoot the light forward and that’s how you can get away with painting them?
That’s right! Projectors don’t require the light to bounce off them!
Thanks for the input too!!
Hi mate i know its probably a long shot but do you have instructions on wiring the diy kits im pulling my hair out trying to work out what goes where
BEAUTAYYYYYY making moves bruh fk yeah so proud of you man
Thanks legend!!
@@RoamLyfe all good man I been living vicariously thru you since I sent my old girl to the shop lol stuff is so educational especially with this video I think the only other good video I seen on someone diying their own headlights was Austin Niemela
Anyways forge on my friend we love ya
Seems that company only makes them for 4x4s do the kits fit other cars? Ones not listed in the site?
Hey man, it’s looking great but I think it’s time to wrap it 👌
Looks so fricken tuff man, love this edit
Thanks Ruben!!
Editing is MINTTTTT Lights look good too hehe
Yeww! Stoked you like it bro!
Hey Aussie,
Hey Aussie, how did u seperate the glue on the headlights? "Made a cardboard oven mate, nearly chucked her in the Barbie though heyyyy."
Very interesting idea
Look really cool But, it's a shame they are not A.D.R compliant and in the small print on their web site they are labelled Off Road Use Only!
They look awesome
Thanks Marty!!
Paint the grill black would look sick
Loving the videos as always mate 👌🏼. Keep it up
Thanks Jordan!
what’s the story with the Pcv valve setup mate and where’s it from?
the projector lens 2.5" or 3" ?
They ACTUALLY look awesome 🤘🇦🇺🍻🔥
Thanks chuck!
I know everyone is on the RGB train but in my opinion you can't beat a good shiny chrome headlight, especially when everything else on the car is chrome
does the black paint stop it from projecting light as far??
Looks good mate ! My 80 could do with a set of these to upgrade from candles 😂
Bruh, definitely do it!! The candles are dangerous hey!
Just needs the little parkers done now but she's mint
Yeah they definitely need to be upgraded hey! Hahaha
Good job they look sick🤟🏻
Thanks legend!
Its a cool look. But there is video edit software and apps out there to remove some of your f-ups.
I like to leave them in to be honest
Is this legal to do in Victoria?
I did my S3 lightsaber a friends S4. My S3 didn't make that cracks but S4 did same as yours...
Why no one shows the light output with these
Would you put a clear coat on ?
Awesome stuff mate
Thanks mick!!
Do you have to paint the inside black or can you leave it chrome ?
Is it me or did he leave out the part where he actually installed the rgb
Where’d your order the projector from? I’m gonna do the same thing u did to my car. Also does the projector run low and brights? I’m trying to get into lighting
Hey mate, I was wondering and it’s probably something your asked a lot.
How faithful are you in the reliability of your ZD 30?
how did u hook up your DRL and indicators? I'm trying to do that atm
Acrylic paint can go over enamel , but enamel can't go over acrylic .
Are you planning on painting the car a different colour, or looking at keeping the gold colour?
Sick vid btw!
Not sure yet!! Kinda digging the gold! Did think about doing the top half black!
I did something similar to the cardboard box but the only difference was I lined the cardboard box with aluminum foil then did it
Will those lights work with any 4x4
Great video however I don’t consider $500 cheap especially for diy headlights
gotta swap out the nissan parker lights with some brilliant white LED globes.
Yeah for sure!! Gonna get onto that asap!
The irony of painting chrome parts black while wearing a chrome lyfe t-shirt
Are you going to blackout the grill and badges?
Not sure yet! Gonna see when the barwork gets here!
What rims have you got?
Are they globes in the projector HID or LED?
Hmm good question, not gonna lie to you! I dunno hahaha
Looks like the DIY kit costs $900 for 2 lights. Please tell me I'm wrong. If not, the prebuilt units for an extra $300 sure as hell looks like a better option after what I saw you go through. Thanks for the content.
Its like 450 for a pair
@@waterfield7871 Not saying any such info on the website. Shows a single headlight and no description of the contents of the listing. Assuming you're correct, that's gold!. Have you purchased a kit?
hey what year is your gu patrol
looks good
Thanks legend!!
What is the name of the product you used to reseal and glued the lenses back on.. ?
ambush bullbar?
Primer prob dried to fast . Ornits a dry climate it shrunk to fast
I’ve loved everything you’ve done so far, but imo youve just ruined an expensive pair of factory headlights and made yourself a defect magnet haha Each to their own, love all ya vids though keep it up 👍🏻
I kinda agree in a way! It’s really nice to have factory finish ligjts but these also look really cool!! It’s nice to have good lights!
i want them on mine
Cant seem to find phatgrips have u got a link cheers
Contact them on Instagram @phatgrips
@@RoamLyfe cheers fella not on insta cheers anyway
Forgot to mention z they're actually illegal too
Are they ADR approved?
Not exactly haha
looks lie you didnt let the primer solvent finish releasing mate. done it myself plenty of times.
Are they legal?
I plead the 5th
looks like an autobot in disguise
Mate can I buy your stock bumper? I am chasing one and just got scammed, so getting one from someone trusted would be bloody good.
Hey James! It might be up for sale but heaps of people have already put bids on it!!
How much are you willing to pay? Hahaha
@@RoamLyfe hey man, thanks for replying! After getting scammed my budget is $350 😂
The reason the reflectors are chrome, is to reflect the lighting, as bright as possible. Painting them matt black has dulled those lights by probably 75 to 90%. Are you going to detune your engine, put on a 1" exhaust, take a couple of gears out of the gearbox & take out the transfer case to reduce it to 2wd?
Looks cool but!
Hey mate! These are projectors, they don’t need the reflection as the project the light through the lense that is honeycomb! Old style lights and led replacements definitely need the chrome!
Hmmm.......@@RoamLyfe Might need to do some research into all this new fangled stuff
Will be good to do a night test with them mate. Another top vid thoe keep em coming
Will keep youse updated, I was tryna pump this episode out as it was a long one to film!
Anyone have complaints from the popo? 👮♂️ I wanna do this, also anyone know if indicators on rear have to be orange or is red ok
wow ol mate paid $470 for an installation kit
