Love these, I have some fabric cut and will be working on some tomorrow. Hope they turn out a good as yours. I'm new to quilting, and love decorating my home with my handmade things. I've made a few quilted hot plate table trivets. They come in handy, and get used a lot. I just finished making a square one to go in the center of our square table inside of the placemats so we don't have to do buffet style for breakfast on Christmas. It was fun and turned out really pretty. Not quite brave enough to take on a big blanket yet. But working on it. And yes we can never have enough hot plates. I can make them for all seasons. Haha enough to keep me busy.
We believe in you! We're glad you enjoy these fun tutorials. Thanks for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
Fun video
Loved that hot pad.
We're glad you enjoy this tutorial! Thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle
Hi Jen! I LOVE Cathedral Windows, too & this is a fun & new way to do them 😊 When I'm cutting scraps I've been cutting them into "pre-cut" sizes anyway-1 1/2" & 2 1/2" strips, 5" & 10" squares. I may just have to scrounge thru my 10" container & make some of these! Thanks for another great idea & Happy Thanksgiving 🍗
You are welcome and we are delighted that you enjoy this fun twist on the Cathedral Window design. Cutting scraps into pre-cuts is a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing it with us & thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle

Thanks for another great video! I love cathedral windows, I keep working on small projects to gain skill because I want to do a flag project in the spring. The timing of this video is perfect I’m behind on almost all of my Christmas projects because my dog is ill. Love how you solved some of the problems I was dealing with. Thanks.
We are glad to hear that this tutorial has been helpful for you! Thank you for watching 💖-Michelle
I have made hot pads similar to this with the cathedral window, but I like this method so much better.

love this. Wonderful teacher. My grandmother made a cathedral quilt by hand over 50 yrs ago. I have it and use it. I remember her hand stitching the quilt. This brings back memories.

Really nice - tks!
Thank you! We're glad you enjoy it 💖 -Michelle
OMG these are just sew cute and very elegant looking. I can't wait to try and make some of these but it isn't going to be for this Christmas season. But they would be cute for Valentine's Day gifts also.

@@ShabbyFabrics is there a patter I can buy? Cant seem to find it, and have just tonight ordered layer cake with you🙏❤️
@@sutela2060 We did not create a pattern or download for this project, but you may find one of our other Cathedral Window projects helpful for the technique- www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video?search=cathedral -Michelle
Clever with the sewing direction directions.😁 Great attention to detail.
I’ve become so adept at unseeing that my seam ripper is named: Jack (the Ripper).
What a great name for your seam ripper! We keep them handy too! Thanks for watching 💖 -Michelle
Thank you definitely going to make these
Let us know how they turn out for you! Thanks for watching 💖 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics they turned out perfectly except I’ll use a layer of quilt batting along with my insulbrite
That's wonderful! Thank you for the feedback 💖-Michelle
Love this! If my points come out a little wonky, I think I will appliqué a circle in the middle.
That's a wonderful idea!! We're glad you enjoy this fun design. 💖 -Michelle
Magnifique
Merci! Nous sommes ravis que ce projet vous plaise. Merci d'avoir regardé. 💖💖💖 -Michelle
Jen, these Hot Pads are beautiful and Thank you for the fantastic tutorial 💜 I also hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Thank you! We are glad you enjoy this fun project. Thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle
I did the half inch sewing on each corner and it turned out funky. My points in the middle looked a little ragged, I think I needed to tack them down better. Not bad for a first try. Glad I used ugly stash fabric!!
We're happy you're trying something new! We'll look forward to your project photos. 💖 -Michelle
Jen, that stabilizer foot in the back makes me weak. I want that machine so bad. You do such a wonderful job teaching and inspiring us. Thank you.
We just love our Bernina 770 QE!! We're glad you enjoy these fun tutorials. Thank you for watching 💖💖 -Michelle
Love this! May I ask if I have the correct idea to add a hanging loop at the corner. I think I can combine the other potholder method you've shown (approx 5" long 2.25" wide folded over and stitched along each side). In the other pot holders (round and square) the loop is attached prior to adding the binding, but as this has no binding, I'm thinking this: it'll be on one of the corners. Attach it to the front side (right side) of the potholder with pointed loop facing in towards center, then attach backing as you've shown here. When turned right side out, the loop should be on the outside now, right?
If this is way off base, can you help us with how to attach a hanging loop, please? Thanks so much for all your tutorials!
Hi Linda! Your method makes complete sense! You may want to try a "mock up" using some paper or scraps first, but this method should totally work to include a hanging tab. Thanks for watching!! ✨ -Michelle
Great tutorial cannot wait to try one. May I ask about your iron. I'm looking for a cordless. Is that the Panasonic 360?
Thank you! We're glad you enjoy it! Yes, our iron is the Panasonic 360 and we love it!! You can find them here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/c5288/notions/irons 💖 -Michelle
I love this, but I think I will do an envelope back so I can just sew around all 4 edges. I'm so challenged to make that last closing look as good as the rest. I would love everyone's thoughts!
That's a great suggestion! Please let us know how it turns out for you! 💖💖💖 -Michelle
Excellent suggestion about making an envelope backing. I, too struggle with turning things and finishing the opening even though I know how to hand sew and appliqué. Those openings just seem to defy me at every turn!!! Thanks so much for, this idea - I’m good at envelope backs😄😄
Cynthia - thank you for mentioning such a great tip!
I would bind it like a quilt
Beautiful project! Fabulous tutorial, very thorough! What kind of material is her cutting surface? I ask because she irons the project right on top using her wool mat. (Not loving my current ironing surface😉)
Hi Chele Bell - Jen is cutting on a MegaMat, and the wool mat pressing mat she irons on can be found here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p67892/wool-pressing-mat-14-x-14 -Michelle
I would to see you doing a quilt of cathedral windows
We do have a pattern for that! www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?sortOrder=6&q=cathedral+window+quilt+pillow 💖 -Michelle
I have never seen a quilt block before but you have broken down the steps so it looks so easy I'm going to try this.
We're glad you enjoy it! We have a library of quilting videos if you're interested in learning more. Please let us know how these turn out for you!! 💖 -Michelle
Do we need to use the foot you use or is that just your preference?
Great question! You don't need to use it- we find it helpful because it has a quarter inch seam guide on the side of it and this presser foot is designed for use with patchwork. Hope that makes sense! ✂️🧵-Michelle
By pinning the "windows" would this not be a perfect time to add the bottom fabric and thereby quilting the hot pad. Then all that's left would be binding. 😊
how would i go about adding a loop for hanging?
Great question! You would create your loop first, and one idea would be to sandwich it in between the hot pad and backing fabric prior to sewing the backing on. Hope that makes sense! -Michelle
The foldered side of triangle is that facing towards the wadding
Hi Leanna, Yes it is. Thanks for watching! -Bethany
Can I make them 8x8 ?
You sure can! We're glad this project inspires you. -Michelle
Would to know what stitch number length and width as I get touched using same stitches
We did a straight stitch (width is zero) with a length of 2.5. Hope that helps! 💖 -Michelle
I used a layer of batting and one of Insul- Bright. The hot pad is wanting to pull up in the middle which is keeping it from lying flat. What did I do to make that happen? Seems like it's something to do with the thickness of the outside seam.
That may happen because we are sewing curves and on the bias, but you may be able to press the middle into submission. 💗 -Michelle
I just used one layer of Insul-Bright, and it came out beautiful...not too thick, and not too thin to me... I don't think it needs that much thickness, and would feel too bulky in my opinion. When I did the inside quilting part it was the perfect thickness...

If you use insulbrite do you just do one layer of it?
That's a great question! Some people use one layer and others prefer two. The choice is up to you! 💖 -Michelle
I used one layer of Insul-Bright, and it came out perfect! Not too thick and not too thin to me... I don't think it needs to be that thick when your using Insul-Bright
Ive seen this machine foot on other videos. What is it called ?
Thank you ❤
We use the 97 D Patchwork foot for the Bernina. Since we have the dual feed on our machine engaged, it mimics a walking foot. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Where did you buy that iron?
You can find the Panasonic 360 degrees Freestyle iron here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?sortOrder=6&q=panasonic -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics thank you
this could be used as a quilt as you go block too huh?
It probably could! We look forward to hearing your experience with it. Thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle
I tried this but don’t like the way the center turned out. Raw edges tried to peek out when I rolled the edges back to stitch. I didn’t want to cover with a button (dishes would not sit flat!) so I just added a quick appliqué over that center point!
That is a great suggestion with the applique!! Thank you for sharing! 💖-Michelle
Not sure if you did this step right, but it sounds like when you folded the triangles you laid them upright instead of face down? You won't see any raw edge if you lay the triangle with the folded edges facing down... I noticed this when she was placing hers on top of the square...this might be your problem...I just made one and it came out perfect...
Just a thought for you.... I double pin (2 side by side) at the begin/start sew -->> sew around -->> then I also place 2 pins side by side to remind me to stop sewing
Thanks for the suggestion! Appreciate your support and comment! - Abby
To give a more finished edge and to make sure it is actually closed we hand sew them closed and then you can't find the place where they are closed.
Over all we think it's a more finished project.
Great suggesting! We're happy you enjoy this project. Thank you for watching! 🎄✨🎄 -Michelle
Troppe chiacchiere.
Grazie per il tuo feedback 💖 -Michelle

Ok, how many times did you stab your fingers while doing this? I think I've gotten every finger so far. Hah
Oh, no! Hope you're okay!! We know the result with be worth it! 😊 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics I'm good, I didn't bleed to death. Haha, butits not as bad as getting burned with a glue gun
We're glad you're okay! Yes, the hot glue burns do hurt!! Stay safe 💖 -Michelle
Why do you sew in the dark? I have bad eyes to see.
Hi Di- Jen doesn't sew in the dark, but it may appear that way due to lighting and the camera angle so that viewers can see the stitching. hope this makes sense! -Michelle
