How to make a tote bag out of TWO DOLLAR PLACEMATS / Easy DIY for beginners

When I saw this $1.97 placemat at the store, I knew I can turn it into something really nice because of the unique and beautiful design. These 2pcs of placemats which are made of 100% cotton, are meant to be a new TOTE BAG. I added canvas cloth for handles and bottom panel. I really love the outcome of this 30th project. Very simple and quick DIY. I will make some more.😊

Very nice work, clean and strong seams. One suggestion. If you sew a center line through the length of the straps before attaching to bag, I noticed that you get a stronger strap where the stitches are less likely to break when you’re carrying a heavy load. This is perfect for a Bible study bag to keep your Bible and notebook (and sweater) ready to go. Thank you! Endless possibilities…just needed a head start.

The part of this that is not obvious is how you attached the lower panels to the placement having them on the outside and inside. It looks like you sewed the panels only to the outside of the bottom of each placemat.

Nice tote bag. Where did you get that cute little label you sewed onto the centre front near the bottom of the bag? It makes the tote look bought instead of handmade.
