- Does your trunk not open? Does your trunk not shut? Is it making a weird noise instead of opening? It might be your trunk lock actuator. The OEM part is very expensive so you have the ability to purchase aftermarket parts (see links below) however keep in mind that sometimes you get what you pay for. With how easy this was to replace and the substantial price difference, you could replace it 5 times with the cheaper version! Hope this video helps!

Great instruction. Saved my broken latch. Thank you for making the video.
Just had the latch fail on mine this was the EXACT video I needed...thanks so much
I’ve never worked on my car before but considering it was going to cost a minimum of $500, I figured I’d look into fixing it myself. This video was a lifesaver! Thank you so much!! I will say that I couldn’t get the back panel off by myself so I pried it open as much as I could and was able to replace it with only a tiny bit of difficulty. I also needed to look at another video to see how to undo the trunk latch from the wiring. With no mechanic experience, this video didn’t give enough detail for me to feel comfortable, but it ended up being super simple. Thanks again!
Great video! Simple and easy to follow instructions. With ease I was able to change the latch.
Great video. Replaced my trunk latch in 15mins. Like a f'kn CHAMP!!!
Heck yes! That’s what we like to hear! Great job!
Excellent video. I replaced my tiguan's rear latch following the tips. The tip to use the hammer to fix the screw driver in at 44' helps a lot. The link for m8 screw is also very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing the good news on how this video was helpful for you. Congratulations on replacing it yourself!
Yeah guy wanted 200 to replace. So i ordered the part & did it myself with the help of this video
This helped so much! My lock broke yesterday while at school, and i had to use rope from the inside to hold it down while i drive! My part will be here Monday, and I’ll be swapping it out!
I’m so proud of you for finding the solution! Please let me (and other viewers) know how it goes!!
Thanks a lot the details were what I needed
Glad it helped!!
Dzięki za filmik przydał się
Wow this was a $$$ saver!
Thank you
THANK YOU!!!!
Of course! I'm glad you found this video helpful!
my car is doing well ! i also fixed my car seat!
Thank you so much. Once again proving women do it better. There is not all the jibber jabber bullcrap the men do they just sit there and go on and on and on about nothing and still never tell you how to fix it. Thanks Girlie Garage! You rock!! ❤️
I’m actually laughing out loud. Honestly I just don’t have time so I figured I would make videos for those who want to get to the point as well!
Love this! I have 2016 Tiguan and the trunk won’t open. Will the latch replacement resolve it? I was told to replace the whole assembly with camera need
I can’t diagnose it from a comment, but if you had it looked and and got a second opinion and they all said it was MORE than the trunk latch, then I would listen, but if you want to give this inexpensive fix a try because your gut is telling you it’s probably simple, then you can start here. Let us know how it goes!
Do I need to disconnect the negative to reset so it can work the locking mechanism won't budge thanks
You’ll need to open it manually from the inside. The step by step instructions for that should be in your owners manual
Going to order the part and try this next week! My only question: The latch was broken and wouldn't stay closed but I finally managed to get it closed (and latched) so I could drive home - now I can't get it to open again! I can hear the mechanism making a sound but it won't release. I've also tried pushing the release inside the car to no avail.
If you have a second person it might help. There should be some sort of emergency release inside the car (when you’re referencing the release in the car I’m not sure if that’s what you’re using or if you’re just pushing the button). You will need to push/pull the tailgate hard while using the emergency release. Let me know how it goes!!
I'm with the same issue right now, I already tried the emergency release but it didn't work, tomorrow I will try with someone else pushing the trunk and see if something happens, I'll let you all know if works
@@franciscoa3886 For sure! Let me know how it goes!
Mine went out today. It stays closed but on the dash it shows the trunk is open will it drain my battery? I ordered my new one. Thank you so much for this video!
If the dome lights in the car are staying on then it is probably draining your battery
Whats the name of the part it connects to? It is spring loaded and acts as the bolt that the latch connects to
Not 100% sure, but the mechanism usually connects to the latch (or hook). If you try Googling that, you might come up with whatever VW wants to call it
Is there a way to release the trunk if it’s whirring but will not release?
Yes, there is a manual release. It will be in your owners manual or also on RUclips.
I hear so much how to replace it but how do you open the trunk to replace that
If you have absolutely no function left with the electronic latch, try these things:

Those are torx 20 screws
That’s the third name I’ve heard them called 🤣🤣🤣
