It is so annoying when people get in the comments to say "I don't have those issues or I have had no issues. " You have to realize you if they have sold 300,000 units....you have one of those units. You might be the lucky one. Clearly these observations are over the course of years of being a mechanic.

I have a 2012 2.0 Tiguan (Pacific, 4Motion, TSI) and have seen 2 of these 5. Intake manifold is throwing an engine light with no engine performance issues. Water pump went out - twice. It's plastic and just cracked, gushing coolant out. 2nd time the mechanic put an aluminium one in and no problems since. Otherwise, it also burns oil - needs a top up every 1,000-2,000 kms, and the PCV Valve seal went out as well as the oil fill cap seal causing a vaccum leak.
I just bought a 2011 and love it. I will not open the panoramic roof, scared it might start leaking so i just enjoy the view. I am wondering about the proximity sensors, I am not sure if I have them and if I do they are beeping at me? How can I check for them? Thanks for the video, I hope my little Tiguan doesn't give me any problems in the next two years then I will trade in for a new model, I love all the bells and whistles it has.
If it has little circles in the bumper about the size of a nickel you have then. Put the car in reverse, foot 100% on brake and have someone walk about 2ft behind you and see if it beeeeeeepppsss at ya.
I've changed a few of those sun roofs (50-100's), and in most cases the leak was where the frame is glued together in the front corners. Very common problem on the diesel tiguans (cbab engine) is the turbo regulator, causing a vacuum leak.
In the ~5 years I had one, we had just about all of these. I'm pretty sure the only reason we didn't have a sunroof leak is because we didn't have a sunroof. I just about lit it on fire when our tensioner went out. Luckily no catastrophic damage (or I would have for sure). Also lucky our RMS hadn't blown. New owner is probably dealing with that now or already did.
Common plastic engine problems....this video gave me a headache but very useful and glad that I watched it, gonna have to do a hard pass on the Shitguan.
I've had to deal with 4 of those 5. The rear main is now starting to leak and the dang steering keeps locking up. I figured the steering would have been on the list but it didn't even make an honorable mention. All in all though, I still love my Tiguan!
My employer has 50-60 Tiguans, they are driven around 50000km a year, around half of that is with a 1500kg+ trailer attatched and the rest stop and go never more than 2 km between stops. They have so far had no really bad faults, other than beeing too small for 5 grown men. The rear door is too small for getting large workboots in and out quickly and the center cupholder in the rear is broken in every single one because of bad placement. (when someone has to sit in the middle with big heavy workboots they kick them to pieces getting in and out) I don't really like them due to the auto-wipers and electronic parkingbreak, also the steering wheel it too high even in the lowest setting. but those things aren't exclusive to the tiguan, but every new car I've tryed..
So agree with the steering adjustment... I an not short, but my legs are longer than my torso and being able to drop the steering wheel another couple of inches would compensate for having to sit so far back in the seat.
I have a 2012 Tiguan. About to cross 82,000 miles. Awesome car. You didn't mention the crappy ignition coils that were originally put in. But I personally never had anything else fail. But I only owned it for about 30,000 miles.
I guess I am glad I decided not to go all in and buy an SEL in '14. I got the SE with the simple radio fearing the more options it had the more could break. I do LOVE my Tiguan though
Have you had any problems? I have always owned Toyotas and I am not used to paying for anything more than oil changes, tyres and brakes. Now ordered the new Tiguan and looks like German engineering is not all that.
My 2009 tiguan has about 115000 km on it, and now needs (for the third time) a new water pump. I recently spent about $1500 on replacing my old manifold and fixing something in the gearbox (if I recall I don't know). The tig still needs that new pump, new suspensions and I don't know what. Yep, not the most reliable vehicle, but still a fun and quick VW.
@@saigoneze4465 my car is having same issue. (2104 tiguan) I replaced thermostat, alternator and waterpump. Now im having issues with ECM light.... which may be throttle body or camshaft sensor. My suspension is bad. Every bump I hear it lolll. 115k miles
I have had a 2012 since 2022. 2.0tdi bluemotion. Main issues inhave had were mostly wear and tear issue. I have had to get the clutch replaced, and it has never felt right since, my mechanic even out a 2nd new clutch in and it was stilk the same. Very little travel on the clutch pedal and feels lumpy when depressing the clutch.
I own a 2010 Tiguan and a 2010 GTI. This video covered 60% of the issues I have had. The oil from the PVC or whatever Volkswagen calls it leaked on the water pump. The clogged sunroof drain, the oil cooler leak (slight bent line rubbed and cut the line) , rear main seal (both). Thanks for this, my GTI has an issue with I start sometimes and it does. My guess? Fuel pump beginning to fail ?
And the GTI had the hydraulic chain tensioner went out. Went ahead and rebuilt the head while I was at it. Also the turbo valve , I don’t know exactly what it’s called, I broke and I went ahead and replaced the entire turbo. I’m keeping this GTI forever but this Tiguan for my wife is pretty awesome.
First thing to go on mine (in the UK) were the front suspension console mounts (just worn, not broken), warning lamps and the dimming switch, all after 3.5 years. No other faults.
I know it’s been 7 years since you made this comment. My daughter’s 2013 tiguan just lost all interior lights. Is it just a fuse that needs to be replaced, or something more complicated. I’d like to take care of by myself if possible.
Test drove a 2023 Tiguan se black line r. Nice car. I hated the 3 rows of seats. Car is too small for that and they don’t lie down flat. Just makes it a mess in the back.
Here are my problems with Tiguan - EPC error - Roof leak. Tried fixing the hoses and cleared debris but still had leaks - Roof leak contributed to roof cloth adhesive to come off. My panoramic cloth has fallen on one side - Oil leaks. I replaced the gasket a few months ago. Then another oil leak happened. - Coolant leak - Back door unable to stay up I love my car but these problems make me spend a lot more in maintenance
Plastic water pumps and plastic manifolds. The crazy things that automakers have to do in order to meet CAFE and EPA regulations. Its sad. In 30 years, we will treat cars like cellphones now
You’re right. With all the technology integrated in cars nowadays people will be pressured to buy new cars more often because these vehicles will be obsolete not long after they come out. Also I live in a state where emissions inspections are required every year and what people are doing is just buying a new cars when the check engine light comes on.
Finland, 2.0tdi with just over 400k km on it. Biggest issue is that the EGR system keeps acting up. Other than that it's a dream to drive, if you do regular maintenance that is.
Live in remote area where snow and ice big problem but my wife each have a Tiguan and love the way they handle the snow and ice. Very sporty and one at 145000 km and the other at 187000 km and we plan on keeping them into the 300000 plus range at least. If you do regular maintenance and don’t drive like an asshole they run well. Yes had some of these issues but so did most other cars we have had.
I bought a 2020 Tiguan in May and by September the drains were clogged and had about an inch of water in the rear passenger foot well. Took it back to the dealer and they fixed the drain ports and replaced the carpet and jute. Needless to say I wasn't happy after it only being 4 months old.
Thanks for the video! The kid just bought one and the oil pressure light came on 20 minutes after she drove it off lot. With your video, I can keep my eyes open for these issues. Thanks!!!!
Thanks for the video. I have a 2015 and at 46K miles and have the intake manifold failure (under warranty). The weirdest thing on this car this that once you push start it, you can leave the car and it will stay running even when you walk away, go inside, whatever. I had that happen at work and it ran for 13 hours. I came out and it was on empty. I told my dealer but they didn’t seem to think it was a safety issue.
2013 Tiguan SEL, LEATHER ehated seats, had air noise on sun roof, rubber gasket was distorted, reposition it, no more noise, had none of any problems, oh, the gas lock solenoid got dirty and would stick, , couldn't open gas flap, but got it popped open, no damage to door, dealer had the solenoid in stock, I asked, happens more than once, he jokes, that's why we have them in stock..it's a small motor, not much power, so slight debris on shaft kills it, easy to replace, I did it myself one screw under rubber outside, reaching in between trunk rug, and quarter panel to push wire and grommet in, was the hardest part, not bad, connect wire, works great
Hi, I had to come back to you again because I know you are best with VW Tiguan. I am hearing a sound for about 3 seconds just before full stop, a sound like jet engine shutting off, not loud. This started right after I drained the transmission fluid from the pan and refilled the exact amount of fluid that I drained. Other than this strange gear shutting sound, my 2011 Tiguan run smooth and nice. I had to drain the fluid in order to remove the transmission fluid pan when I had to replace the lower control arms. Only thing I did not do is not using those computer software when I refilled. I warmed up the transmission pan to body temperature when I refilled the fluid and stopped refilling when the overflow tube stopped dripping. My first question is if the transmission gears make any sound like that when the automatic transmission shifts down to lowest gear when the fluid level is not perfect? My second question is if the check engine light comes on when the transmission fluid level is not perfect? I appreciate your help on these.
Thanks x information.....but unless you are an mechanic why should buy troubles if I can avoid all those..? and don't forget electronic failures and very costly.....✌️
So, you being a mechanic came up with many common issues about water pump, intake and other relevant components -useful info btw- and when it was time for pros you mentioned the irrelevant heated seats. Common man! I'm suscribing btw.
It is important to remember that not all Tiguan owners will experience all or any of these 'typical' problems in their ownership of the car. Secondly, if Toyota's never broke, the Toyota dealers would be able to function with a lube lane and maybe 1 other service bay...seen any built like that? me neither :o)
Looking back at some of your early shows, you really have polished up the format! Also a lot more of your character comes across, making the show more fun to watch :)
+blower Thank you. That really means a ton to me. I have to go back to an old show from time to time. When I do I am like "YIKES"! I am always working to make the show better.
HumbleMechanic Bought a brand-new 2017 Tiguan SEL, front wheel drive. We have 2400 miles on it and my wife has told me three times she has felt a slight jolt like somebody bumped her from behind. Any ideas what that could be from. All three times she was completely stopped with her foot on the brake at idle before driving on. Does this car have dry dual clutch automatic type issues like you hear about with Fords. She never got any kind of failure light indications. Thanks for all your great videos. We love Tiguans!
I just bought a Tiguan last week and it ran fine until I filled up 2 days ago. The check engine light came on and the car stated to studder a bit. I got home and tried to start it the next morning but it won't. The engine cranks up, runs for a second and then shuts down. Any ideas as to what's going on? We found a diagnosis code of 00907, intervention load management
One foot bigger all round isn’t that a Toureg as we call it in the uk. Heated seats mmmmm. My 2014 Tiguan hasn’t put a foot wrong until today wet carpets. Guess sun roof. Watched your videos on the Tiguan you should be a fortune teller. At least I know how to try and fix it thanks to you.
So I bought a used 2012 tiguan from a friend of mine. The first day I brought it home I realized there was water pooling in the floor boards in the back seat. There was a sunroof issue so I had the lines blown out as they were clogged. Then my intake manifold needed to be replaced recently. So now it seems to kind of vibrate around 40 mph and then when I got home, I noticed it looked like there was smoke coming from the front right wheel. My.engine light is not on at all. What do you think could be or where could thw smoke be coming from??? Any wisdom and help is much appreciated 🙏
lol Who would buy a Tiguan. I have a freakishly long torso and from the head room, the left arm rest and the center arm rest that raises up to meet my stubby arms this car is so comfortable for me. Plus I love VW's. I have a 2012 and love the look of it. I looked at a Land Rover first but my head it the headliner so it was out. Really worried about this timing chain issue and hope it fails in the next 28k miles before my warranty goes out. I had a Fiat X-19 with a rubber timing belt that broke and trashed my engine. That car broke down 20 times around town. Was my first car. I laugh at all the Fiats being sold now. Thanks for the video. It was fun.
Drove a rental FIAT 2017 it was the worse driving time 5 hours and then broke down near airport thank God trade it there because it wasn't going last lmfao.. There so small.. Felt like a box .
Are these mostly issues on the early Tiguans or have you seen these on the later ones as well? I have heard of timing tensioners exploding in 2009-2010 Audi 2.0T motors, so maybe earlier models have more problems? Or do they get lazy and cheap out after a few years on this car?
you forgot about heater cores... -40 is not the best time to find this issue. Back in 2017 I purchased a 2009 for my daughter; I have encountered the leaky sunroof, water pump, and heater core failure. With your videos I have been able to keep her on the road. Thanks!
I have a 2016 tiguan and I'm having major issues with my transmission shifting really hard after about 20-30 mins of driving. The dealership said that they can't fix it because it isn't throwing an error code.
I just bought a 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan the day before New Year's eve. It has been in the shop 3 times since then. It is February 9th, and the damn check engine light just came on again. I'm taking it in on Monday. I hope I didn't buy a complete lemon. What are your thoughts? First it was a vacuum leak, next it was a rear seal oil leak, third time it was a gasket...lols! I afraid to know what is next? However, I heard you say something about a smell being caused by a leaky panoramic sun roof... I have noticed a smell off and on. Now I think you have just helped me figure out where it was coming from! Thank you for you helpful advice!
Any advice on what to particularly be careful of when buying a used one ? I was planning to buy one from 2014. 2.0 TDI 4x4 but still undecided between front wheel drive or 4x4.
when the tensioner fails is it common for all valves to bend or just the exhaust? and should the timing chain and guides be replaced when doing the tensioner repair. what else would you recommend replacing. thanks
Tiguan in our family. First water pump failed at around 40k and it was catastrophic. VW replaced the engine with another of similar mileage. Now at 60k we have another water pump failure, waiting to hear if this one is as bad. Selling this car and wouldn't buy another.
I have EPC light up and misfire cylindre 4, from day first service I informed VW service the coolant water shortage, I end up with this defect. During the service vw service said they don't know what is the problem every service
I have a 2010 in Australia, with 200k kms, always run on premium 98 (95 in the States), oil change every 10k kms with new oil/air filters, coolant every 20k kms (very hot in Australia), also have a Forge catch can kit custom designed for Tiguan. When manifold was replaced at 110k km, the intake valves were resonably clean. Haven't had any issue with manifold or intake valve like mis-firing since. I think clean fuel and oil are the keys, catch can may not be needed at all as the stuff being caught is just clean oil.
Hihi , a red steering wheel light comes on (just this past weekend) & the Auto power steering wouldnt work... makes it so hard and dangerous to drive but then I come back 30 minutes later and theres no problem.... would this be a fuse problem or the actual EPS itself??
I have a 2020 Tiguan with only 5500 miles and it’s already a quart low on oil!! Never seen a new car use this much oil in the first 5000 miles. Had a 2015 passer that was just as bad, like the car but the engine block must be soft.
I own a 2017 Tiguan I bought off of my lease. It has been a very good car. I did notice a small amount of fluid on my garage floor after a month of storage. Should I be concerned about it? Oil level seems fine. Not sure how to check the transmission fluid level. I have just over 44,000 miles and the oil was changed at 40,000 miles.
I have a 2013 Tiguan 4motion. 90,000 km (~56,000 miles). Recently had the spark plugs replaced. Two days later EPC light and check engine light was flashing, engine was shuddering. Pulled over immediately and towed it to the VW shop. Turns out to be bad ignition coils or coil. O've owned the vehicle for 10,000 kms. Its not been a bad vehicle so far. But I would have expected more from a VW...might have been better to go with a rav4 but they look ugly!
All kinds of good info here, thanks! I got a '14 Tiguan Sel 4Motion couple months ago and I love it. I've had a few fast smaller cars and this was a great transition to something more useful. The car did have a small oil leak that was fixed but other than that no problems.. (crossing my fingers) Btw I had a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT that had heated cloth seats.
My top timing cover seems to be leaking again after replacement. Wastegate is gone. At this point I don't even want it lol. 3 years ownership. Def rear main seal gone but underside it's drenched. I'm frustrated
Here in Australia I've got 2 L tsi 132...at the 99 000km engine light came up and was diagnosed manifold failure and as you said no impac on the engine at all.. Still I haven't replaced it,what do you recommend?
Fyi this is the ONE car that never gave me not one problem so far (2015) its fast, fun, well thought out and pretty! (Electronic parking brake sticks sometimes but I think it's from debris getting under the handle)
I have a 2018 Tiguan bought it brand new. Every ~2,000 miles the low oil light comes on. I take it VW and they all tell me it’s normal to burn a lot of oil. Every time they add about a quart and half of oil. I drive about 300 miles a month and they are around town. It has 12,000 miles right now and the low oil has come on 4 times since purchasing the Tiguan. Is this really normal oil consumption ???
Thanks for the useful info! Would you change the transmission oil on a 2015 Tiguan (4 motion, automatic non-DSG, 2.0 TSI) with 60k miles on it ? The dealership and owner's manual did not seem very clear about it, wondering if it's a "lifetime" oil like the newer models. Feedback from the dealership was "if you don't have issues, don't change it", but the mech engineer side of me says otherwise haha
Hi There Have a 2012 Tiguan ... My problem is the push button start and stop. It takes multiple attempts to start AND turn the car off. Is it a sensor? Is this an odd ball issue? How can it be determined what the actual problem is? The brakes seem fine no issues and the battery good. Baffled!
I am back again and thanks so much for answering my previous question. Since I talk to you my water pump did fail and I had to have it repaired, then my axle was cracked and I had to have it repaired. Now my car is not starting? The lights come on, it will just not turn over? I had the battery checked and they said it was good, then he checked the starter and said it was good? So you have any idea what it might be?

What about the cam chain tensioner? I’ve read that these are a big issue as well. What’s a ball park price to replace the tensioner? Thanks great video.
HumbleMechanic do you know if VW is working with owners to rectify this issue? I just bought an 11 for my soon to be 16 year old. It has less than 90,000 miles, all regular maintenance has been performed. On the test drive I did not notice any chain noise. Unknown if the tensioner are stock or upgrades. Thanks!!!
My wipers on the tiguan 2015 just started switching on randomly by itself, and stayed on even after switching the vehicle off. Now they are just off/faulty! what could be the problem?
eopezz I have one and has been a money pit change timing stuff oil pump oil sending unit oil pick up and pvc valve and still have low oil pressure light found out I have a leaking rear main seal but don't know if fixing it is going fix my issue and mine only has 96000 miles on it
Great video! I'm searching for a late model used Tiguan. I turned in my Passat TDI and have been driving a 2012 Jetta 2.5 that I picked up really cheap and would like to add another vehicle. These things drop like rocks in value compared crossovers like RAV4 and CRV. The Tiguan is really an excellent value used. I just hope its not a nightmare to own.
There are a few things that need to be addressed if you buy an old one. They are okay... just okay. That comes from someone who owns one. Well we are leasing one. I do think I would like it less if we owned it. But knowing we can give the keys back in a year is nice.
2012 tiguan- sunroof drains clogged, sealants dont work, need window carrier replacement. No warranty coverage even if you have one. Does not cover this issue, dealerships aware of this issue, so far milked me for $1200, to get to the replacement of the window carrier issue. Not sinking anymore $. Had this vehicle since 2015, and have sunk all types of $ on top of full warranty. I got all the issues spoke about on this vid🙄🤨
Hi Humble Mehanic! Thanks for all your amazing videos! I enjoy evry time looking at. I replaced intake manifold two weeks ago, did oil change the same day, and since then i got 10 times light for oil presure low and to stop engine now, today i saw 240 temperature and since then i did not drive car i am scared now. Should i drive it to the service or tow it? What the problem can be? Please answer me i have nobody else to ask and to believe. Thank you! Ps oil level is max also coolant is good.
It is a pain in the butt the first time and will take you 2X as long as if you did it a 2nd time. All the battle is trying to figure out the best method to remove/install the manifold support bracket. Humble mechanic has a video called replacing the intake manifold. This will take you all the way down to the water pump and from there you can figure it out. In order to get the support bracket off, remove the small hose that goes to the water pump before you even try. If you do this it is very easy to take it out and install it. You also should move the two coolant lines that connect to the one mentioned above. You don't have to remove any of them completely , but you need to be able to move them off to the drivers side of the engine compartment. It will save you many a bad word and time doing it the way I described.
Does it matter if it was manufactured in germany or not (mine is a Wolfsburg mfctr)? I love my 2015 tiquan, no problems at all so far, purchased with 2 year bumper to bumper protection in 2017, had it for a year so far....oh wait, electronic parking brake sticks sometimes, but that's it! :)
There are some times where I think you can point to pattern failures being due to where a car was built. But mostly I think it's a parts or design issue.
I just picked one up a 2016 4Motion with a 2-year 24,000 certified-used. After I do some more basic maintenance that the dealership refused to perform i'll get it out on the road more.
Hello , I did replace my fuel pump at fuel tank but my mechanic told me that maybe i should replace one under driver seat. I heard that that one is expensive to replace?
It is so annoying when people get in the comments to say "I don't have those issues or I have had no issues. " You have to realize you if they have sold 300,000 units....you have one of those units. You might be the lucky one. Clearly these observations are over the course of years of being a mechanic.

Geeze, thanks, I'm now so excited I Bought my 2019 Tiguan. can't wait to pay for all these repairs!
This video was not about the newer tiguans, its based on old ones
Spot on! My ‘11 Tiguan was leaking oil from the upper timing chain cover, then my water pump failed!
Just replaced that today. It was easy but pain in the ass.
I forgot exactly, but in the $500-700 range each
Was it worth it? How long did it run after the pump replacement?
did you replace with aftermarket Aluminum-housed water pump (ie. not plastic)?
Nope that outlived the rest of the Tiguan
I have a 2012 2.0 Tiguan (Pacific, 4Motion, TSI) and have seen 2 of these 5.
Intake manifold is throwing an engine light with no engine performance issues.
Water pump went out - twice. It's plastic and just cracked, gushing coolant out. 2nd time the mechanic put an aluminium one in and no problems since.
Otherwise, it also burns oil - needs a top up every 1,000-2,000 kms, and the PCV Valve seal went out as well as the oil fill cap seal causing a vaccum leak.

I've changed a few of those sun roofs (50-100's), and in most cases the leak was where the frame is glued together in the front corners.
Very common problem on the diesel tiguans (cbab engine) is the turbo regulator, causing a vacuum leak.
panzerveps I own a 2010 it’s a peace of crap. At 75,000 replaced the Trans $4,600
seems like every german car has this problem in this era. somethign to do with the adhesives.

I recently spent about $1500 on replacing my old manifold and fixing something in the gearbox (if I recall I don't know). The tig still needs that new pump, new suspensions and I don't know what. Yep, not the most reliable vehicle, but still a fun and quick VW.
+Preston Garvey new suspension? If you don't mind me asking, why does it need that?
my strut tops need replacing or the actual shocks is very noisy at slow speeds and every tiny bump is noisy
By far the most common failure I saw in the shop was that damn fuse box, second place went to the leaky sunroof. :p
I know it’s been 7 years since you made this comment. My daughter’s 2013 tiguan just lost all interior lights. Is it just a fuse that needs to be replaced, or something more complicated. I’d like to take care of by myself if possible.
@@Shark994 should be fuse 21 under the steering wheel if you haven't already fixed it
Auch! I just bought a 2013 Tiguan R. This are horrible news. However, it drives super nice and smooth.
All kind of strange issues that are expensive to repair/maintain... But hey, the heated seats are owesome :))))
Test drove a 2023 Tiguan se black line r. Nice car. I hated the 3 rows of seats. Car is too small for that and they don’t lie down flat. Just makes it a mess in the back.
Here are my problems with Tiguan
- EPC error
- Roof leak. Tried fixing the hoses and cleared debris but still had leaks
- Roof leak contributed to roof cloth adhesive to come off. My panoramic cloth has fallen on one side
- Oil leaks. I replaced the gasket a few months ago. Then another oil leak happened.
- Coolant leak
- Back door unable to stay up
I love my car but these problems make me spend a lot more in maintenance
Have you figured out the EPC problem? We’ve gone to 3 mechanics and they all seem to be guessing.
Plastic water pumps and plastic manifolds. The crazy things that automakers have to do in order to meet CAFE and EPA regulations. Its sad. In 30 years, we will treat cars like cellphones now
+Frank Magana yet we are less understanding when our car has an issue than when our phone does.
You’re right. With all the technology integrated in cars nowadays people will be pressured to buy new cars more often because these vehicles will be obsolete not long after they come out. Also I live in a state where emissions inspections are required every year and what people are doing is just buying a new cars when the check engine light comes on.
@@DW-rw4yc NJ perhaps?
Finland, 2.0tdi with just over 400k km on it. Biggest issue is that the EGR system keeps acting up. Other than that it's a dream to drive, if you do regular maintenance that is.
You're a wizzard Harry! That 1 foot of extra Tiguan call was definitely answered on the MQB Tiguan of 2017/2018. Ask for ventilated seats next!
Dang. That sucks
how did the drain ports get fixed? or what was making the drain ports not working properly?
Happened to mine too
Thanks for the video! The kid just bought one and the oil pressure light came on 20 minutes after she drove it off lot. With your video, I can keep my eyes open for these issues. Thanks!!!!
YIKES! That is not good. I hope they get ya all fixed up
first time i've seen a vid of yours,
to keep it short and sweet,
you explain things very well,
pretty awesome man
easy now
+upside down dave thanks dude!! I appreciate it.
2013 Tiguan SEL, LEATHER ehated seats, had air noise on sun roof, rubber gasket was distorted, reposition it, no more noise, had none of any problems, oh, the gas lock solenoid got dirty and would stick, , couldn't open gas flap, but got it popped open, no damage to door, dealer had the solenoid in stock, I asked, happens more than once, he jokes, that's why we have them in stock..it's a small motor, not much power, so slight debris on shaft kills it, easy to replace, I did it myself one screw under rubber outside, reaching in between trunk rug, and quarter panel to push wire and grommet in, was the hardest part, not bad, connect wire, works great
2012 tiguan here..160k km. no oil stains or visible leaks. Oil level extremely low after less than 500km 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
I think Tiguan is a sleeper car, I got 13 Tiguan R line in love with options and such options performance doesn’t even exist in other new brands
I had a question would a rear main seal on a 2009 vw cc luxury 2.0
Would a rear main seal cause a vacuum leak and misfire
I have a 2020 Tiguan and it already has a transmission leak. Dealership says it’s a plate. Sound right?
I'm buying a used 2016 Tiguan. this is my first turbo engine. can use of premium fuel help prevent carbon buildup? thanks!
+Mtechthewise NAILED IT!
+Mtechthewise but toyota builds vehicle that doesn't have multiple wired issue like vw/audi have
HUH?
Sunroofs are one of those things that a lot of people say to avoid regardless of the car it came on. Some of them are just a curse to have.

Bought a brand-new 2017 Tiguan SEL, front wheel drive.
Fuel pump ?
Serge Vivier turned out to be bad gas!
Hyundai and Ford have had to take up walnut blasting machines to combat the carbon issues too
All direct injections have same issues..so far I am at 85,000 not a problem 2016 new design.. eA888 more cooling on heads
Coolant leaks and vw, jeez got a mkv Jetta with a coolant issue have replaced it 2x, still runs but ugh it’s frustrating
Do these failures still exist in the 2020 Tiguan 2.0?
you forgot about heater cores... -40 is not the best time to find this issue.
Back in 2017 I purchased a 2009 for my daughter; I have encountered the leaky sunroof, water pump, and heater core failure. With your videos I have been able to keep her on the road. Thanks!
We love you HumbleMechanic
Thank you. :)
I have a 2016 tiguan and I'm having major issues with my transmission shifting really hard after about 20-30 mins of driving. The dealership said that they can't fix it because it isn't throwing an error code.
Me too please see my question Sara Aronzon. I'm so anxious its pathetic.
4 $ale 👍🏻🍻🇨🇦
Had to replace a water pump and intake manifold assy. Love the vehicle though.
Tiguan is the best car so far no matter what you say mate
Doesn’t mean there are failures. We had one for 3 years. No issues except the driver window switch
when the tensioner fails is it common for all valves to bend or just the exhaust? and should the timing chain and guides be replaced when doing the tensioner repair. what else would you recommend replacing. thanks
Tiguan in our family. First water pump failed at around 40k and it was catastrophic. VW replaced the engine with another of similar mileage. Now at 60k we have another water pump failure, waiting to hear if this one is as bad. Selling this car and wouldn't buy another.
Bummer
LOL is it a new car? wtf mine is fine only problem was haldex
Intrepid Milotic what happened with the handed??
This all sounds horrible, but thanks for sharing all the info, now i know what not to buy. And i don't buy cars because they have a great heated seat.
I have EPC light up and misfire cylindre 4, from day first service I informed VW service the coolant water shortage, I end up with this defect.
During the service vw service said they don't know what is the problem every service
How does a Tiguan owner mitigate the carbon buildup in the intake manifold? Is there a fuel additive that you would recommend?
Good fuel, good oil and full throttle daily. Additives can help but won’t prevent
What does full throttle mean? 😅
Our Tiguan had faulty rear sun roof drains as the drain hoses shrank over time and pulled out of the bug valves
Coolant leak?
I have a 2013 Tiguan 4motion. 90,000 km (~56,000 miles). Recently had the spark plugs replaced. Two days later EPC light and check engine light was flashing, engine was shuddering. Pulled over immediately and towed it to the VW shop. Turns out to be bad ignition coils or coil. O've owned the vehicle for 10,000 kms. Its not been a bad vehicle so far. But I would have expected more from a VW...might have been better to go with a rav4 but they look ugly!
Mine did same i replaced coils $40 fixed the problem
Excuse me bro.
May I request you guide me on how to remove the front bumper of the car.
I wanna clean the radiator grill and the ac condensor.
All kinds of good info here, thanks! I got a '14 Tiguan Sel 4Motion couple months ago and I love it. I've had a few fast smaller cars and this was a great transition to something more useful. The car did have a small oil leak that was fixed but other than that no problems.. (crossing my fingers)
Btw I had a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT that had heated cloth seats.
I also just bought a Tiguan and have a small oil leak but have not found out the issue yet what was your problem that you got fixed ?
How to prevent carbon buildup within intake!thanks
Mazda cx5 2018 or a vw Tiguan 2018 sport se which car would be a better buy
What about the new Tiguan’s? My wife and I just bought a 2021 SEL 4Motion. I’ve had several people make comments about how I’m in for trouble.
Still I haven't replaced it,what do you recommend?
you ll prob want to replace at some point.
I think it was Charles...great video to say the least. Thinking of getting 2016 VW Tiguan R line...any major issues to look out for?
Could you tell me where the main fuse (part# 5N0-937-629-A) is and how to change it?
I do love my heated cloth seats on my 09 saphire blue metallic 4motion.
I was thinking about getting one but I pass now.
Fyi this is the ONE car that never gave me not one problem so far (2015) its fast, fun, well thought out and pretty! (Electronic parking brake sticks sometimes but I think it's from debris getting under the handle)
Don't listen to this idiot. have you ever heard an American say anything good about EU cars? even if they are more advanced and economical.
dennismfern What an idiotic statement.
Mine burned oil like crazy. 1 quart every 600 miles. My problems started at 100k miles
Add engine fan relay causing the fan to not stop and drain battery..
Hi There
Have a 2012 Tiguan ...
Alternator?
How much was the water pump job?
Mechanic good night timing mark for a vw passat 1999 non turbo because I set the timing correct z turn with 19 wrench two revolution and start car there running then just shut down what is the problem.
Any update about 2018 tiguan tsi 2.0 4motion sir? 😊
What about the cam chain tensioner? I’ve read that these are a big issue as well. What’s a ball park price to replace the tensioner? Thanks great video.
Yep, they are under class action. Something that came about much after this video.
Thanks!!!
Hi. There is a burning smell in the radiator and sometimes it gets inside the car. what will be the problem?
My wipers on the tiguan 2015 just started switching on randomly by itself, and stayed on even after switching the vehicle off. Now they are just off/faulty! what could be the problem?
Just got a tigwan someone tore up the wiring on the leftside by dash can you do a video on this ty ill be waiting
May I know how much will it be to fix the above problems? I'm planning to get a 2nd hand tiguan registered in 2009. It's a 2.0 TSI engine.
eopezz I have one and has been a money pit change timing stuff oil pump oil sending unit oil pick up and pvc valve and still have low oil pressure light found out I have a leaking rear main seal but don't know if fixing it is going fix my issue and mine only has 96000 miles on it
I have a 2017 my crankshaft position sensor has went out per codes and can’t seem to find where it is located
Tiguan SE 2018 , 29,000 miles , brake pads and rotors are worn out already , is that normal?
Is there a fuse for 2009 Tiguan read door hatch to check prior to swapping out the lock. Thanks John
:( that’s not awesome at all. I’m sorry to hear
Thank you!
Ps oil level is max also coolant is good.
quick question Mr humble mechanic . how hard is to replace the water pump in a 2010 Tiguan s ? can you recommend a repair manual. Thanks
