Can you PLEASE make an updated tutorial? I have tried so hard to follow this but the program has changed and I can't figure out how to make a layer stay and to get colorize to work once I have a layer.
I think it would be really nice if we had the pre made swatches AND a color wheel or something to change parts of an object, even different textures to choose. I feel like they could have made buy mode really great with that
I just started out with Sims 4 Studio today.. I watched a couple of tutorials and it seemed really complicated.. I almost gave up on it, then I watched your tutorial and everything just made sense! Thank you so much! :)
@@gigisims4278 Good luck to you too! I kinda threw myself into the deep end after doing a couple of re-colours while following this tutorial.. I'm now working on a complete re-skin of a base game ball gown xD It's so much fun..

I never knew it was that easy to recolor things, but my laptop would probably kill its self if I downloaded more things. It can hardly handle all the cc I download😅
I remember you asking if anyone would be interested! It's also really really interesting as that's not what I do to recolour at all! I love that our ways are completely different! That's what you suspected, isn't it, I remember you posting about it. I think your way is much much faster and mine involves a lot of cloning!
i’ve looked up so many videos and read a bunch and watched this multiple times and searched through gimp but i don’t understand because my toolbox and the whole thing looks way different and i’m driving myself crazy trying to figure it out when all i want to do is change the color of a shirt
Thank u so much for this! I've been trying to learn how to recolor objects and clothing but was having problems. But after watching your vid I was able to complete my first recolor. U made it easy to understand.
Can you make a tutorial on how to make recolors of counters? And i have trouble with the colors i can't make the colors more light so i always end up with dark colors and i don't know what i'm doing wrong
Recolouring any object generally isn't too different, counters just have two textures, one for the countertop and another for the cabinets underneath, but apart from that it's the same! Also with lighter colours, sometimes it is a hassle to get white textures/light textures of an object if it doesn't have any to begin with, usually what I do is find the lightest swatch available, make it black and white then play around with the brightness and contrast and generally I can get myself a pure white swatch which I can begin recolouring.
I needed it some time ago, when I decided to recolor a skirt, (the one from get feamus, which has some patterns, but also solid colours, but there isn't a solid black variant, but only with patterns!), I would have saved myself the trouble of looking for some program that was "easier" to use, but which, in reality, recolored my skirt black, but also left a "whitish" line, where a hypothetical non-existent belt should be ! lol
Thank you so much for this! I've looked all over and can't find the answer to this question so I was hoping you could help me? If I want to use an expansion pack photo for a recolor but make it base game friendly for download, will choosing the "New Mesh" option in S4S work and then doing everything else you the did the same?
I've been recolouring with GIMP but the one issue I'm having is matching up my colours with different objects. I'll save the colour I'm using so I can use that colour on another object so I can make a matching set but when I do re-use that same saved colour on another object it turns out a completely different shade and lightness. Do you know any solution to this?
That might be because the base material is different for different objects. Wood reflects light differently than fabric for example, so even if they are the same color, they won't look the same
It's essentially the same thing actually, find any pattern you want to overlay, then you can "Multiply" the pattern just like an area of solid colour in the tutorial! 😊
this is version 2.8.22 of gimp, version 2.10 looks totally different and i hate it lol if you want the version he has that everyone uses, just go to the gimp site he has listed in the description, and scroll down to select "older downloads" Previous v2.8 installers, then scroll down and click the .exe version 2.8.22. takes a minute to start up at first, but i couldnt handle 2.10 it drove me nuts and its not nearly as user friendly.
Hey! You're awesome! I did a object tuning and recolor on the flat floor lamp for like pools and stuff, from spa-day, I made it work like a rug, and made it to a "floorboard" to like separate tiles and wooden floors, and under doors and such, but I have a problem, some of the "board" swatches gets transparent and like, dissappears, but other ones work.... The texture pictures are the same size and made the same way in gimp, have you had that problem? It's soo weard and I can't figure out how to make it work xD
For the bed when I press control I & delete it deletes the extra but instead of it being transparent it’s white. I can’t remove the white. What am I doing wrong?
There's a very helpful written tutorial on the Sims 4 Studio website about that. But essentially you need to adjust the tuning of the object by replacing it with a tuning from a bed with high values. It explains it very well (with screenshots) on the Sims 4 Studio website
When you delete all the colors before you Recolor, will that completely remove the original from your game or does it just make an added cc of that same item?
Generally, it can be hard, but is possible. However I try to stay clear of having to, and hope that there is a white or at least a plain swatch for me to use as a starting point. It just involves a lot of clone tool and smudging 😂 Sometimes ends with mixed results
You wouldnt happen to be willing to recolor an item for someone? I have tried using Sims 4 studio.....and it just doesnt seem to be in the cards for me :( NO matter how hard i try, i cant get the hang of it.
Sorry im late to this video..but my gimp program looks different than yours it has a grap background and my tools look different did I download the wrong one it recommended the windows version and that's the one I clicked on
I use GIMP 2.8, I think by default it gets you to download 2.10 or higher, they aren't that different but I still use 2.8 since as you mentioned, it does move around functions and I'm comfortable with 2.8
Yes, there's a "Mods" folder within the Sims 4 Studio files where you can place CC into so that they will appear in Sims 4 Studio when you go to "Clone" an object. Depending on the Creator's TOU, you'll need to uncheck the "Mesh" box when cloning so that if you share your CC Recolours, they'll still need to go to the original creator to get the mesh.
what if I try to add a swatch to a object that doesn't have swatches? like the constructor from get to work, I'm trying to add my recolor to it, but it overrides the original swatch, even though I have created another
Im having issues when I go to change the color of the pillow. when I go to add the white, it turns what I already colored white as well. What am I doing wrong?
Can you PLEASE make an updated tutorial? I have tried so hard to follow this but the program has changed and I can't figure out how to make a layer stay and to get colorize to work once I have a layer.
Agreed! I just found this tutorial yesterday (October 2023) and it helped me up until the exporting part. I can't find my item in game...
Sims 4 missed the mark on this one. I miss being able to totally customize objects in build mode like you can in Sims 3.
same along with all the clothes in CAS
That is the thing I miss most.
Yes, and it's CRUCIAL. I still play sims 3 way more for building etc just because you have soooooo much more options
I don't really miss it. It was actually annoying in the game. But I would like to have the same thing but as external studio

Does the pattern recoloring process also work for adding wood textures? (on a table or a bedframe for example)

Okay i clearly missed something...i managed to change the pillows design and save it, now my issue is finding my CC and putting it into the game?
That's easy, this might be a bit late but I recommend making a separate folder so you can put everything in there and it's easier to find.

i would try making it white first if it isnt already then recolor. Perhaps the coulor you are trying to recolor is interfering
how do you get it into the game. I followed these steps but the game still doesn't show my versions.
what do you do if there is no base white color (hint why I'm recoloring) when I put white over it nothing happens, even with other colors
How do you do it if the recolour you want to do is custom content?
This was so helpful ^^ though I've recoloured a few things, though when I recolour doors I can only apply the texture to one side of the door
This helped so much thanks...however I would also love to know how to recolour over a pattern. 🙈
