For anyone who doesn't see why you need Blender 2.70 when Blender 3.50 is out and infinitly better/easier to use, you actually CAN use 3.50 or any version you want to MODEL the object, you simply need to have 2.70 installed and have it set as your path in Sims 4 Studio so that you can 1. Export the meshes from S4S to use as reference (because S4S will ONLY export the mesh to work on if you have Blender 2.70 installed and set as your Blender path in S4S), 2. Hi, I am studying industrial design so I already have 3d modeled furnitures, I was wondering if I could convert the file type or something and use them in the sims 4. What do you suggest?
It should be fairly simple. You just need to use Sims 4 Studio then create a package file of the base object (If you want to convert over a chair, you'd create a package file of an existing chair, etc) then export that chair mesh for Blender, then open that Blend file then import your own mesh onto it. There are other programs out there for UV unwrapping the one I use is UV Mapper Pro. Really great and easy easy program if you are just starting out with meshing :-)
Awh, yeah, I had a hard time wrapping my mind around UVs at first too. It is an art form in of itself. It helps to think of the UV as the wrapping that goes around a present. Just like with gift wrapping, you want to keep the wrapping snug and tight over the box without wrinkles or warping. When you place down your texture, you don't want it to look stretched and you want the cuts (where the texture ends) being in practical places. For example, think of cuts like seam lines on clothing, you want to hide them as much as possible so it isn't obvious there are breaks in the texture pattern. A great aid in texturing is using the black and white checker pattern that Blender will automatically generate for you in the material settings (you'll have to look up how to do this exactly). When you place down the checker pattern, you want no distortion with the squares. They shouldn't look rectangular, stretched, or distorted. If you get too much distortion, then you need to change where you've placed your cuts (seam lines) or add more cuts. There are lots of RUclips videos out there that go more in-depth. Words can only help so much, sometimes it is better to see what you must do. Keep practicing with it, you'll get more comfortable with it over time. You also learn more by your own experience with practicing.
Why does the cube move on an angle when i am shaping it. Rather than straight down only half of the cube moves. I am following this video while trying to create this same object. Please help.
I am trying to use Blender for the first time and am having trouble with the A then X step. I dont know if im saving the mesh wrong from S4S or what but I can not find a way to remove it. Do you know where I might be going wrong?
Hey, I was wondering If it is necessary to use Blender for this or if i could use another software and if that is possible, what Other softwares are possible?
The hotkeys youre using either are not working for me or not doing what yours is doing.. Im so confused. I really thought making a rectangle for a wooden chest would be simple but now im just mad lol i somehow managed to get the rectangle the right size and everything but cannot for the life of me get the mesh started. Pressing E does not do anything in that window and i just cant figure it out 😩
I followed the tutorial pretty closely, but I somehow managed to have the original table still in my new mesh after importing it to the studio. Even though there's no sign of the old one on blender....
This tutorial is really great and easy to follow but I've a problem, when I try to import the new mesh, I see sims 4 studio loading but whe it disappear, nothing happend, the mesh don't change, HELP PLEASE !
I suspect it's an issue to do with the mesh 'cuts'. Make sure when you're replacing the mesh of a particular piece of furniture, you edit existing mesh 'objects' and not delete them. Simply delete the meshes you don't want that are in the s4studio_mesh_# objects in Edit Mode, then combine your own object with the emptied s4studio_mesh object and it should solve your problem. When you completely delete an object (one of the s4studio_mesh_# objects) and go to import the mesh back into Sims 4 Studio, it thinks it can't find anything, resulting in no changes being made, even if you have your own objects in the blend file, as it has no cut data so it's invisible to Sims 4 Studio.
i'm kinda stuck in the unwrapping the object :" is it normal to have the object like a spiderweb instead of rectangle and square like yours? since i the table that i made have a different style than yours
20:15 "Performance Friendly" is an interesting assertion, here. Builders for the game are asked to use as few wallpapers as possible, because use of many different wallpapers causes slow performance (as noted by James Turner during his build for the Volkov family in Moonward Mill. 12:05 if you want to check). If you build homes which are large, or complex, it causes slowed performance both because of the number of objects, and the pathing considerations by Sims; this has been repeatedly reported as especially heinous for console users. The game limits family size due to performance issues, which begs the question for why it spawns so many single-family joggers in neighborhoods. There's all sorts of recommendations to delete files to improve performance because the game doesn't do it by itself. Anyway I appreciated the tutorial, immensely. I just disagree with The Sims being performance-friendly.
I'm not fully sure what it could be, but it might be that Sims 4 Studio can't find your Blender.exe location. You can set it manually by going into Settings > Blender Path. If not, you may have to look around the Sims 4 Studio forums for help with your error message
How are you moving the screen to view different angles? and how to move the platform higher so its the top of the table, cuz its just at the bottom and i cant move it up
I did find this table useful P: thanks for the tutorial I just start exploring this new CC and mod things and you helped me understand more how to manipulate blender, just one question, doing this replace the original table or it's a whole new item in game?
If you select "Create 3D Mesh" or "Selective Clone" when creating the package file, it will create a whole new object in the game, if you do "Override" it will replace it! Hope that helps!
Hey Josh, this was a great video and I thank you a lot for showing us how you do things! However I've run into an issue that I can't seem to figure out; when I try to export an object's mesh, the Studio saves it as a .blend file and tries to open (??) Blender on its own, which just results in some kind of crash. What exactly is going on I don't know, however when I try to open the file myself all that appears to be exported are lamps and the camera..... lol? There's no literally no trace of the models (not even an empty layer or anything), and I've tried this out with multiple objects, none of which turned out properly. Do you perhaps have some kind of idea of what's going on? Could there be an issue with versions of things? I feel really silly because no one seems to have this kind of problem or mentions anything about possible compatibility issues ;;;; Edit: Forgot to add that I don't get any kind of error or anything; just the notif that "Blender has stopped working." :|
I wish I could help further, but I have no clue what could be going on. Sometimes Sims 4 Studio does glitch while exporting and when I go to open it, it's just a base file, but if I try re-exporting, it works fine. Make sure you're using Blender 2.70a and that Sims 4 Studio is using the correct executable too. You can check by going into Sims 4 Studio > Settings > Blender Path and make sure it's set to the blender.exe inside your 2.70 folder
I had the same problem, and I did what Illogical said and it works now ^^ The issue was that I had 2 different versions of Blender installed in different folders, so I changed the Blender path inside my 2.70 folder, thank you so much!

Make sure to use Blender 2.70 for Sims CC, since newer versions aren't fully supported by Sims 4 Studio, but even then, the objects should atl east be opening, even in newer version.. Have you tried reinstalling Sims 4 Studio?

Need help! Would you be able to guide me to a tutorial that shows how to change the height an existing door/door frame? Basically I'd like to change the height of an existing door frame that came with Island Living to be taller for medium and large size walls
I wish I could help. I don't think I've seen a specific door tutorial before for changing wall heights. I'm going to guess it involves cloning a medium/tall door then replacing the mesh with the tall version of the island Living door you made
@@IllogicalSims I didn't make a door, I am talking about a door frame that came with the island living pack; the bermuda triangle double archway. I'd like to convert it for medium and tall walls. Is there a tutorial you could suggest that would show me how to do this do you know?
This is a great tutorial but for some reason I can't bake, the option is available but once I click it it just says "no objects or images found to bake to" so do know why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Edit: I figured it out, had to move object present a side, join them and deleted the present one. ^ ^ Got it to work. My mesh isn't updating in sims4 studio, I made a decoration egg by using a dog statue as a base, I deleted the statue in blender and trying to upload the blend file ( which is the egg) into it, it's not doing any changes and I don't know why. :c
Quick question.. what original object can I use to create a clutter for example, I want to make a PS4 videogame clutter item just to have it laying around in the kids' bedroom.. i'm in desperate need of help with that part because my head is spinning, haha.
Does it do it for all the other options too? Recolour etc. It's possible that it can't locate your Sims 4 files, since it requires the game files to get object data from. Go to Settings > Sims 4 Path and check if it's set to the correct destination.
I think you do, mainly because Sims 4 Studio requires the game files to be able to clone objects from the game to create CC with, but I'm not 100% sure. I know that's how it works for packs though. Only objects from the packs you own appear in Sims 4 Studio
Hi and thank you for the helpfull tutorial. I have made a dresser by taking a sims mesh. But my surfaces to put things on are different than the original. So I can place objects in the dresser only on original surfaces, and not on the new ones. How can I define the properties of a surface, so that I can put objects on it? Can you help me? Thank you much! Kind regards, Romy
It's fairly simple to fix! Sims 4 Studio has a built-in "Slot Editor" and it's main purpose is to deal with clutter slots. There's a tutorial (with screenshots) on the Sims 4 Studio website! sims4studio.com/thread/4420/use-sims-studios-slot-editor
I have a problem: the not selected parts are invisible in the UV-Screen so when i try to unwrap a second object, the image of the prevoius unwraped thing disappear
Not sure if you ended up figuring it out, but I think you have UV Sync turned off. You can turn it on by clicking the icon that looks like a mouse cursor over a cube which can be found on the bottom row of icons on the UV window.
@@IllogicalSims thanks for the answer but i figured out that my version of blender was just a wierd copy of the original so I downloaded and installed it again and it finally worked. Btw your tutorial really helped me so thank you
I had this same problem and this is how I solved it: Turns out every time I created a new mesh for the different parts of the table, they weren't joined together on the list to the far right in s4studio_mesh0.. Instead, they showed up as their own separate objects on that list (as Cube.001 or something). SO, I selected all of those pieces at once by holding shift and selecting then went to Tools>Edit>Join. Now all of those pieces are one object and unwrap on the same grid. Hope that can help someone else having the same issue!

I really thought making a rectangle for a wooden chest would be simple but now im just mad lol i somehow managed to get the rectangle the right size and everything but cannot for the life of me get the mesh started. Pressing E does not do anything in that window and i just cant figure it out 😩
The tutorial helped a lot, but i was wondering if you make or where you get your wood/ metal textures from?
Most textures I use come from in-game objects that have large flat faces, like tables, which I can use to cut out textures from
What theme are you using in blender? mine is extremely bright and somewhat washed out.
I love this kind of videos, could you make a video to create a more complex new object?
Thank you! An advanced texturing video would be amazing :)
I followed the tutorial pretty closely, but I somehow managed to have the original table still in my new mesh after importing it to the studio. Even though there's no sign of the old one on blender....
It’s probably a naming issue, your new mesh needs to have the exact same name as the original one :)
can i make cc without sims 4 studio? cuz its not working properly, please suggest me some other ways to make cc
As far as I know you can only do it with Sims 4 studio, it's been trustworthy and free for me, all you have to do is go to their website and register
@@Fairly-odd-kel I have crack version of sims 4 so is it work with tht?
@@AJ_21_Petkar I'm not sure, maybe ask one of the admins on the sims studio site?
@@Fairly-odd-kel ok tysm kel
Thank you so much for teaching people how to do this!
Why mine sim 4 studio is all empty
@@IllogicalSims IT WORKS !!! Really, huge thanks :):):) You've helped me a lot with your answer and your videos :)
When I press E to unpack the faces nothing happens??? I've come so far!! Help!! 😢😭
i'm kinda stuck in the unwrapping the object :" is it normal to have the object like a spiderweb instead of rectangle and square like yours? since i the table that i made have a different style than yours
loooove your cc, hopefully soon i'll be able to make great stuff like you!
Thanks for this tutorial! I was wondering if you could make a warehouse tutorial from sims studio?🙏
What do you do when there is a black dot that hasn't been unwraped? 15:10 btw thank you so much for teaching us how to create cc objects!
Very well explained for beginners!
Can you make a tutorial on how to make a custom window mesh? stained glass window specifically
Great idea! I haven't tried anything like that but sounds very interesting. I will look into it!
thank you this is amazing! ps. your blender link links to a super mario video
Glad it was helpful. Also, not sure how I included the wrong link. It's fixed now 😅
what if i want to recolor a crib to make it fit with the horse expansion and add a pattern to it? would i need to make new shapes still?
1:22 thats what I am doing but as soon as i click on export mesh and write the object's name, an error message appears...
I'm not fully sure what it could be, but it might be that Sims 4 Studio can't find your Blender.exe location. You can set it manually by going into Settings > Blender Path. If not, you may have to look around the Sims 4 Studio forums for help with your error message
I have cracked version of sims can I sitll make cc?
thank you so much im going to give this another try now!
Very stupid question but can i recolor and use an item from the pack i dont own yet
Hey Josh! When I went to up wrap my table it will not stay in the grid. i keeps disappearing?! Any ideas?
I am editing a tablet and I am adding objects to it but it won't let me include it in the unrwap wtf did I do.
Hey Josh, this was a great video and I thank you a lot for showing us how you do things! However I've run into an issue that I can't seem to figure out; when I try to export an object's mesh, the Studio saves it as a .blend file and tries to open (??) Blender on its own, which just results in some kind of crash. What exactly is going on I don't know, however when I try to open the file myself all that appears to be exported are lamps and the camera..... lol? There's no literally no trace of the models (not even an empty layer or anything), and I've tried this out with multiple objects, none of which turned out properly. Do you perhaps have some kind of idea of what's going on? Could there be an issue with versions of things? I feel really silly because no one seems to have this kind of problem or mentions anything about possible compatibility issues ;;;;
Edit: Forgot to add that I don't get any kind of error or anything; just the notif that "Blender has stopped working." :|
I had the same problem, and I did what Illogical said and it works now ^^
The issue was that I had 2 different versions of Blender installed in different folders, so I changed the Blender path inside my 2.70 folder, thank you so much!
Hello,
I tried following your tutorial but it just seems like when I export the meshes from the studio, they don't open in blender. Like you have on the right handside - Lamp 1-4 and s4studiomesh_0 etc, for me only the lamps show up. I tried with different objects from different paths. I use blender 2.79. Please help me!
Make sure to use Blender 2.70 for Sims CC, since newer versions aren't fully supported by Sims 4 Studio, but even then, the objects should atl east be opening, even in newer version.. Have you tried reinstalling Sims 4 Studio?
@@IllogicalSims Thank you so much! I deleted blender 2.79 and intalled 2.76, then reinstalled Sims 4 Studio and it worked! Thank you so much for your help!!
How do you make sure that when you make a pack with items that the colours match? And can you do a tutorial on slots?
I really find your tutorials so usefull, so I really hope you would make more, like a basic plus or something!
Hello! I've been trying to find this info everywhere but i can't seem to find any so i figured id ask. Is it possible to create stuff un Maya or ZBrush, do the uv mapping and textures and import that into the game as CC WITHOUT having to go through the Sims Studio or TSR Workshop??
Not that I know of, BUT you could still use zBrush or Maya instead of blender. And since ts4 studio is free... why don’t you wanna use it?
This tutorial was so great i finally get blender.
But can you please do a tutorial on spectular maps mostly on shine. Because my cc is weird and shiny. But i want shine on some parts. And i just don't get is
I'd love to do a more in-depth tutorial soon with Normal Maps & Specular Maps included at some point in the future. So many things I want to do but so little time!
Hi Lisa, You could also go to Sims Resource and there is a really good spec map creater tutorial done by Sim Man which should help you with that. Shine is really tricky in the sims 4 I still suck at it lol
I can’t seem to change or get rid of the preset shading? :(
Just sat trying to do this for two days I’ve now given up :(. Does anyone know of any other tutorials at all? Thanks
This is a great tutorial but for some reason I can't bake, the option is available but once I click it it just says "no objects or images found to bake to" so do know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
Did you do the uv unwrapping and is the image assigned to the right mesh? This could be the problem :S
@@bentevandijk1778 its alright I got it to work thank you :)
Pleas could you do a tutorial on how to make doors? I’m trying to make thinner ones as I hate how wide the sims doors are and how they clip through fences and stair rails and how if they’re in a corner of a room, part of the frame gets removed, I’ve been trying for a couple hours now but can’t do it 😭
I open blender and its all grey not black as yours but i installed the same version
It doesn't work for me. I can't import it in Studio?
Does S4S gives you some kind of error like :
"System.AggregateException: One or more errors occurred. ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\ProgramData\S4Studio\Scripts\051b0ead-5dda-4c36-9ec2-4974118cc3e7\s4s.out.mlod'."
'cause that's what I keep getting, and UGH IT'S SO ANNOYING.
Could've pressed I to do an inset operation then deleted those inset faces and the fill in the gaps. Would've saved the whole duplicate flip normals
I'm having the same issue! please could you explain your fix in a little more detail?
Quick question.. what original object can I use to create a clutter for example, I want to make a PS4 videogame clutter item just to have it laying around in the kids' bedroom.. i'm in desperate need of help with that part because my head is spinning, haha.
You could pretty much start with any clutter object. For example the box of tissues clutter object from Base Game
@@IllogicalSims Thank you so much, my love.
When i go to new mesh in objects it just shows an empty page
unlike yours, you have lots of example objects it doesnt show me those
Does it do it for all the other options too? Recolour etc. It's possible that it can't locate your Sims 4 files, since it requires the game files to get object data from. Go to Settings > Sims 4 Path and check if it's set to the correct destination.
@@IllogicalSims okay thanks its working now
Do I need the base game installed for this?
Thank you so much, you're a genious! It works :-)
Btw your tutorial really helped me so thank you
I had this same problem and this is how I solved it:
Turns out every time I created a new mesh for the different parts of the table, they weren't joined together on the list to the far right in s4studio_mesh0.. Instead, they showed up as their own separate objects on that list (as Cube.001 or something). SO, I selected all of those pieces at once by holding shift and selecting then went to Tools>Edit>Join. Now all of those pieces are one object and unwrap on the same grid.
Hope that can help someone else having the same issue!
thank you for your tutorials!!! so helpful!!!!
You people having trouble following this, go and play with blender for a while first.
It's got a lot of keyboard shortcuts which you need to be a bit familiar with =]
I do use maya to making my academy projects.. Can I use it instead of blender, can't I?
thank you for this! Can you help us with showing us how to make a doll or something similar? there is NOTHING like that anywhere
i dont like how complicated it was to make a square with a hole in it :| the actions look easy enough but how to do them is kinda longer than it should be lol.
I dont get it. I dont understand how to modify the cube. Nothing works. it keeps going every where in every possiple unwanted shape everytime i click on it (no matter if i right or left click on it.) I wanted so badly to create something but I dont think I can follow these instructions. i suck.
you have to click in the edit mode and then click on face select. Once that you've done this, you have to click on one face of your cube with the right button! then you can modify it by using the axes
when I try to select the face so that I can start unwrapping nothing happens. does any one know why
I really wish that we could use Blender 2.8 instead of 2.70.
You can do the modelling in any version of Blender (or program) as long as you can end up importing it into 2.70 in order to import it into S4S
@@IllogicalSims hi! When you imported the table into Blender, what file did you choose?
Is it possible to do this using Cinema 4D or 3d studio max?
When you say "We can now delete the original table"(s4studio_mesh_1), and then you delete the duplicate (s4studio_mesh_0.001) of the original table, are you doing, or are you saying, the wrong thing? So I know if I'm supposed to do what you say, or do what you do :)
Or did I completely miss any steps? 😩 Love that you made the tutorial though!
Delete the duplicate :) since you replaced the original with your self made table
@@bentevandijk1778 Thank you, that was what I chose to do, and it worked fine ☺️
