Just bought one today, same color, brushless 4x4. This thing rips. Last one I had was from Walmart when I was 8 years old. Had the exactly same issue with my what shaft, got a rock in there and it ate it a bit.
Just got the Rustler 4x4 VXL. Its absolutely amazing! It really shows what Traxxas can do with modern engineering. However who thinks Traxxas needs to update ALL of their 2WD platforms? Bandit, Rustler 2WD, Stampede 2WD and Slash 2WD are all in need suspension revisions for improved geometry, durability and adjustability. Thumbs up if you agree, maybe Traxxas will see this and finally give us an long overdue update to these 2WD platforms.
Considering when they were designed that brushed ruled the times those cars were good for those times. Yes, it would be nice for a redesign, a good mid motor design, more balance so they are not so light in the front. Now with brushless, and more power, they do not perform well on the old engineering. Would really like a redesign of the 2wd platform, if enough customers make noise, maybe Traxxas will listen.
One more problem I forgot to add, Traxxas needs to eliminate the front and rear offsets as well, front and rear wheels need the same width, so there is no need for different wheels, they should be able to be rotated without those strange offsets.
I’m 45 I bought me this for Christmas. It’s my first ever RC car/truck. My little nephew has The LaTrax. I figured I’d get one to do something with him together. Hopefully we both enjoy will report back after opening up on Christmas Day.
Although I was disappointed when it was announced that it was basically just another Slash 4x4, I understand why they did it. It's a proven platform and it performs amazing! Great truck, great video!
way different design, better chassis and has a way nicer look to it. I have the 4x4 vxl with the lights and it's by far better than my slash and erevo in handling.
@@jakobsinamon1683 While I agree they are technically a little different, likely length and width wise, they are the same design. Take a look at the rustler 4x4 chassis (TRA6723R) vs the LCG slash 4x4 chassis (TRA7422) and you'll see what I mean.

What do you think is the best basher for around 400-450$ I am looking for something that is hopefully brushless or can upgrade to brushless within the price, and recommendations?
Picked up mine three weeks ago, and have been having a blast with it. I've been out of 4-wheeled RC for many, many years (been flying helos & drones in more recent years), but am VERY glad to be back in the game...and, the new Rusty couldn't have been a better way to rejoin. I haven't replaced the pinion gear...yet...but I've already got a few upgrades on the way - Traxxas F/R driveshafts, Traxxas F/R sway bars (designed for the Slash, but should easily fit the Rusty), plus Pro-Line shocks & springs. However, the first "upgrade"...one I highly recommend others do...was installing the ESC cooling fan. Next will be replacing the Tx & Rx with Sanwa or Futaba, followed by (in no particular order) the motor, ESC, servos, and other chassis parts (replacing the plastic parts with steel/aluminum parts). As cool as the body graphics are, I really disliked the blue/green, so I went with the blue/red...but I still prefer something different, thus I ordered the blue/black body (TRA6718X), and will order the clear body (to create my own design, to be used for racing only). No matter how ytou look at it, the new Rustler 4x4 VXL is a "magical beast" just waiting to be unleashed. Regarding the "rock that ground down the center driveshaft", I have a possible idea for a deflector. There are 5 holes in front of that area. The middle is useless for this purpose, and the 2 'high' holes are probably to mount the telemetry extender box...but, those 2 'low' holes could be perfect mounting points for a custom-made deflector. I just might have to give this idea a try.
What's up fellas... I'm a beginner and looking for a good solid car that's fast and won't break so easily. I'm looking at the jlb cheetah and this traxxas rustler vxl... which is better over all?
The brushed model can take a brushless system although there are a couple differences you may want to look out for. The brushed model uses a plastic center driveshaft and although it has metal ring and pinion gears for the diffs, they are a different part number from what the brushless model comes with.
Does this have same differentials at the 4×4 slash or slash ultimate? I hope someone can answer this. Im torn between this and the slash ultimate. I like rpm parts over the aluminum. Harder on the chassis and everything unless you got 1000 for all CNC machined aluminum from chassis to everything all integy t6 hardened aluminum. Oh and why couldn't traxxas go with gtr shocks for this? Everything is better except that. Maybe they'll do a rustler 4×4 ultimate

I guess what I am saying is we are a Traxxas family and use them every week, we love them and wanted to ask you about the body mount on the Rustler. I have added Proline Thrashers and love the added traction but the body mount I really struggle with and no way the kids can get that body on. Do you have any ideas, hacks or suggestions for the body mount that may help me, its the only thing I do not like.
Hi Dale, do you mean the 2wd Rustler or the new 4x4? The 2wd should be fairly easy with the 3 bodyclips, I don't think there are any other mount options out there unless you modify some Pro-Line Pro-Loc Slash mounts to work on the truck. They secure the body with cap screws. If you're referring to the 4x4, then yes, I can agree the front clip could be a bit difficult for young kids. It was tricky to install the first few times, but is pretty quick now. Unfortunately I don't have a suggestion for a fix on this one unless you want to install some Slash 4x4 towers and customize the mounts, but the body might sit a little higher.
@@rcdriver I mean the new 4x4 VXL Rustler, the first one I bought is Blue/Green body I think I have had it for a few weeks, I have two more I intend to give the kids for Christmas, two boys live together at the same house, 5 and 7 but I am concerned their mom will have trouble getting the body on and almost positive the kids could not do it. I've been away from 4-wheeled RC even longer (35+ years). Initially, I considered the Bandit, but, due to ground clearance "issues", it was suggested to get something "higher". Although I briefly considered the Slash, the Rustler seems the better, not to mention more enjoyable, option. The only final decision to make was 2WD or 4x4. Let's just say I'm VERY happy I chose the 4x4.

Although I briefly considered the Slash, the Rustler seems the better, not to mention more enjoyable, option. The only final decision to make was 2WD or 4x4. Let's just say I'm VERY happy I chose the 4x4.
Robb Ryan Nice Robb! Just picked up my Rustler 4x4 today! I’m sure I’m gonna love it. The Slash just seemed dated to me. I’m a tech and mountain bike junkie, so I’m sure this truck will suit me. Thanks for the reply.
Whats better this or slash 4×4? What about this or platinum slash 4×4
Thanks for this upload Greg. I want one! 🇳🇱😉👍
Wich battery u useing Libo or Nihim something like dat
Great vid as always, love the self right. 👍💪👍
Is it still a good buy today
Nice I'm getting one this week
Great Video!
Was the part after 22:00 still on 2s or is that where you put in 3s battery?
Do it flip like crazy? Had a rustler and couldn't enjoy it
shocks look like my slash. Body attaches like my E-R2 Tires seem ok for the power it has.
Modular? Maybe not.
Modular vs Arrma 3s trucks? Not so much.
+sorry to be another guy hooked at Arrma with enough Traxxas, Arrma and Redcat trucks on my shelf.
Love this vehicle no doubt, will it be sexy Traxxas ......
or expand beyond and take some real beatings like Traxxas competition?
@@wojtek-33 I live on the Arrma forum. So yeah.
They should do a feature that switches out between 4x4 and 2wD
That’s called removing the 4wd driveshaft lol it’s 4 screws
What batteries do you run in your Rustler 4x4 vxl?
The Rustler 4x4 was my idea
Cool truck I’ve been thinking about getting one
clodbusted u dont like traxxas lol, i did a bash video with mine this morning n uploaded today too
Got it and love it
Would the esc ideally need a fan for 3s?
Do a review on the legendary rc cars they are relatively cheap so to speak entry level
Traxxas Rustler 4+4 vs Arma Typhon 3s BLX for a newbie??? No (BIAS) please
Id say Rustler. Mainly due to ease of repairs, and the parts are everywhere and cheap. But either way you would love it.
How does it match up with the UDR
They should make a rustler 4x4 ultimate
Have you bought the attachment?
Nice review! 👍👍👍
Amazing review..
What should I get that or a 1/10 slash
Dirtbike Addict i mean it kind of depends
Dose your body pop off from the front body mount
Cool car
This was a great video! Although I'm now a little confused on which model to buy next lol. This Rustler looks awesome.
I got the rustler 4 x 4 last week and I love it. Which one did you end up getting?
@@MrMetz2112 This was quite a while ago, however I ended up getting an Arrma Outcast 4S. It's been great and I love it. Hope you enjoy your Rustler. I still may get one of those in the future.
Would love some stickers for my builds and would love to brag about you at my track. Banners stickers anything to spread quality
okay, for 400 im fucking impressed, i've been looking around but THIS caught my eye and i immediately went to order
Very nice car
Is it waterproof?
They say so. I wouldn't go throwing it in the pool tho. I drive mine in snow and rain and puddles. Holds up. Water resistant. But to expensive to take the chance lol.
Also spray the electronics with some WD-40 before you go out for extra protection.
@@kcmichelson4528 Yeah I just got mine in June of last year for my birthday its a beast
@@ggfarms yeah. She's an angry little car lol.
Lol
Hello :)
A GoPro camera can fit on the body?
Yes
If I got one I'd put the stampede 4x4 rear bumper and and some arrma wheelie bar wheels on it like I did to my slash 4x4 truggy
cool
How do you clean your RCs?
I use wet paper towel. Wet or dry toothbrush and wet Qtips for the tough to reach spots.
