I love my erevo 2.0 I turned it into a bit of a monster truck using stiffer springs and the larger proline trencher wheels. The main weaknesses I see are the center driveshafts, steering servos and the rear tie rods. I upgraded to a single savox servo and it was a great investment
So happy to be a simple man. Been running my stock, brushed Stampede for about 9 years and just purchased a stock, brushed 4x4 Rustler and absolutely love it (admittedly, it is a bit slow). I credit my parents for getting me all those junky RC cars growing up, which makes an entry level Traxxas look like a beast by comparison.
I Have a E Revo Brushless the first one and it's so good RPM True Track in the rear and steel diffs with little modification and thats it it's so good💪
I still have a Jato myself. It's been heavily modified, though. Dirt guard, rollbar and EZStart delete, single speed transmission swap, ROAR-legal (or at least what used to be considered ROAR-legal before they killed the class) 2.2" wheels, Dynamite Platinum .12 engine and matching high-speed tuned exhaust, RPM A-arms and bumpers, Spectrum radio, center-mounted LiPo receiver pack, modified brakes using short lengths of fuel line as release springs (STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS MOD, THE STOCK BRAKE SETUP IS GARBAGE), ceramic brake disk and a ProLine CrowdPleazer 2.0 body. I know a few of these mods might seem a little weird since they _technically_ reduce performance (specifically the transmission and engine), but this was a racing build. The stock Jato is not a legal setup for racing as two-speed transmissions are only allowed in Nitro MT and 1/8th scale on road Can-Am and Grand Touring, and even the original TRX 2.5 engine is technically a bit too large in terms of displacement (it's actually just a bit larger than .15ci, which is the displacement limit for the nitro 1/10th scale truck class). Plus, the reduced power makes the car a lot easier to drive, which actually makes the car faster around a track in the long run. As for removing the EZStart, I use a starter box. It's almost as easy to use, it saves weight by not needing a big on-board starting system, and it reduces rotational resistance on the crankshaft. That last thing really helps with throttle response. And if you're not convinced that a slower car can be faster around the track, one race (back when I still had the original TRX 2.5 in this thing - it was a club race so the rules were relaxed) I went to had a single RC10GT2 with a Dynamite Mach .12 in it. Everyone else was running JATOs with either the TRX 2.5 or the OS .18MAXX (a popular upgrade for anything running a TRX 2.5 or 2.5R, since it was less temperamental than the stock engines while also providing comparable power). The GT2 eventually crashed out due to a nasty run-in with one of the JATOs, but it absolutely dominated qualifying.
Great comparison video. All the info I needed. I have a Revo 2.0, and am considering downsizing to the rustler 4x4 VXL due to the cost to maintain my revo, and the size of it being an issue. Otherwise I really do love my revo. You said it right when you said that size and cost are really the most important factors. For me it’s been both. Thanks for being a non-biased voice for beginners like me to learn before we buy.
For the money and the quality the Rustler is a no brainer! Same chassis as the slash so plenty of aftermarket parts. Super easy to work on compared to the Erevo. Pops wheelies with ease on 3s. Aluminum shock caps and upgraded Aarms and it’s a solid basher! 🤙🏽

My friend has E Revo 2.0 and I got the Maxx. The E Revo 2.0 only last for 10 minutes before broken, but the Maxx is extremely durable. I drove it off a 6 ft cliff once and it survived.

Having trouble locating my erevo comment from one of your videos, but I just wanted to say that since having the erevo I got from you guys, it has been the victim of front and backflips, cartwheels and just generally janky crashes many times, haphazardly ran it into wooden fences a few times, and oh yeah, ran it up a tree, failing at that particular backflip lol. The truck will take some practice. I've only had it out 3 or 4 times so far. A lot of crashes have been on grass and pavement both. And I see no damage at all yet, except for the body and bottom scrapes of course. It truly is a beast and tons of fun! I havent even istalled my upgrades yet, either! E REVO hands down! out of the 3 choices. I had it since it came out. Insane truck, needs a few mods but never had a drivetrain problem. Jumped housed, hit houses, trees people! Lol
@@Ben.N That really depends on the vehicle. Early RC monster trucks were just stadium trucks with a body lift, and you still see them from time to time with entry-level models. But the high-riding ones, starting all the way back with the original T-Maxx, TXT-1 and Mad Force, look a lot more like an actual monster truck. The REVO is technically a step backwards in that regard, but it was originally intended as a response to the truggy scene which had just started at the time, and as a result it was actually designed to be a bit of a hybrid between a monster truck and a truggy, with a few added twists as well.
I have the Traxxas Rustler VXL and Absolutely 💯% Love it. I've wore out the clutch n replaced the driveshafts so far. Next I bought the Traxxas TRX-4 and now play with it more than the Rustler VXL. More fun climbing than just speeding around. Both are awesome n fun to play with. Have a safe day
Nailed it. I have a rustler 4x4 vxl and a jumpshot mt flux. Thing is, the rustler needs space and speed, it is impressive. But a monstertruck at lower speeds and rougher terrain is just more fun, and generally looks more impressive.
Thank you for a great and informative video. Looking at a Rustler these days, and even though I also really like the Revo, I will probably save the money so that I can get a TRX4 as well. So Rustler+TRX4 :-) It doesnt add up exactly, but like you said, the Revo takes two batteries etc.
I got traxxas e revo and it has been very nice! I love it but there is some problem... 2 servos they suck.. i changed them to one good 30kg and with metal gears now its much better!
e-revo is a great design - swap out the heavy monster style tires for the older version of the pro-line badlands and it's a screamer with a lot less stress on the drivetrain/electronics - add rpm goodies and mip axles and its a great vehicle
ALL E REVO OWNERS MUST HAVE PART 8619 PUSHRODS. If videos mentioning it’s durability due to the pushrods is putting you off they’ve updated them and they’re bulletproof. You’d have to hit a ramp flat out and have a bad landing to break the new rods
@@tranfamilymail well.. Thanks to the global pandemic, I couldn't come to usa for the summers, otherwise my heart is completely set on the Revo 2.0, although the new Hoss is also very nice but I feel that no other RC comes in the Revo's class.
I just purchased my Rustler 4x4 VXL few days ago and complaint i have is the body is way more difficult to put on then the Maxx. But i feel the Rustler Handles better.
Another investment I’d get is this... something to hold the LiPo battery during charging and for LiPo storage... at the very least a LiPo sack big enough to hold your largest battery or better yet a LiPo battery box (BatBox is a good one sold by Amain Hobbies... unless you’d rather make your own if you are do it yourself savvy)... and other investment would be have a set of quality tools as stock ones may not be up to snuff for durability and sometimes, although kinda rare, even with included stock tools you don’t have all the ones you need.... case in point for nitro model users... extra air filter elements, air filter oil, and the biggie... after run oil (even though nitro/glow fuel nowadays says with its new features that after run procedures don’t need to be done for short term storage... a little of the real thing goes a long way in making sure your engine is kept safe and stored happy so next time you fire it up it’s gonna be fine... make sure the tune is good)
With most people it comes down to money, I recommend the Maxx because most of the time that's where you will end up anyway....I don't have a Revo, I have driven them they are very cool, but I'm a huge fan of the maxx, and the Rustler is awesome also...really you can't go wrong with any one of them...
I don't know they seem to break quite often I've never seen anybody go years… But your video is nice and I just purchased a rustler 4 x 4 brushless… Wish me luck I hope it lasts
I don’t have problems with the self righting. And if I really rip the gears after 1 year use, then I think it’s worth it. Saved me a lot of walking. Yes, I am lazy!
Although I think all 3 are cool the Max is probably the toughest and performs well decent speeds right out the box but the Revo has better stability And probably a better racer and can rip up the parks with the est of the 1/10 If ya want the better basher go with Mini The other 2 are very cool Informative vid Guy's I've been looking into a racer basher type truck I love the Revo well all of them lol but dang it's high then after all the extra batteries - accessories You know ya going to want at leas enough betteries to run 3-4 times lol Very informative vid guy's 🔥👍✌️
Put some sledgehammer tyres on my rustler plus aluminium shock caps esc cooler and a dusty dust cover and man this thing is a beast on a 3s 50c lipo I could happily reccomend a ristler 4x4 vxl.
At the end of the day it's a hobby, you'll get another truck no matter which one you pick, you will break and fix each one. I have a MAXX and have put a few dollars into it on aluminum caster blocks, aluminum tie rods, proline trencher (3.8s) and a metal spur gear. In my opinion you do not need the Widemaxx with the trenchers on the maxx. It's a night and day difference in stability. If your thinking of going wide, get the tires first, then decide. It is a little more tame for sure, but I tried different pinions as well (20 and 22) and went back to stock in the end. Still great battery life, doesn't get hot (4s), Metal driveshafts will be next when they break.
Hey remember me? I talked about that buggy i have on the video you did of the budget buggy build. I got it to finally work. The reason it took so long was that when i got my esc and motor combo from hobbywing, it was a used system so it came with a broken motor and i had to buy a new motor that came from china, so it took over a month to get the motor. But hey, at least it works really well.
Nice vídeo as always Brett! I have Maxx and the Erevo 2.0. Maxx is more durable but is worse to drive and is great for surviving skateparks. The parts for her is harder to find, even at Amain. The rear push rods in the 2.0 are a weak point that is difficult to solve but I still prefer it over the Maxx. Erevo is more versatile.
Ah, TSM. Also known as "don't bother learning throttle control, we'll do it for you". Also... "changing the connector voids the warranty" - literally the only company that actually enforces this, because they want you to use their batteries and theirs alone, even though there are FAR superior options.
1.tsm is superior to human capability when braking. Take what you will from it, but I assume you specify no abs on your 1:1 cars...? At any rate, just turn it off if you dislike it...in addition one can use the 6533 receiver to install cruise control on any rc crawler, is that horrible of Traxxas as well? 2.closed loop systens prevent failure. Again, take what you want from it, but it makes the most sense from a manufacturers point of view. From ours, as “enthusiasts” we obviously use other battery and connector options... If you cut a new arrma rc’s power cord, installed a traxxas connector, then called them for a warranty claim, would they laugh before hanging up?
@@jgrc73 "tsm is superior to human capability when braking. Take what you will from it, but I assume you specify no abs on your 1:1 cars...?" TSM isn't ABS. It's a gyro-based stability control system linked to the steering channel - effectively sticking an HPI D-Box or a heading hold unit for a helicopter in the receiver itself. ABS was tried a while back with the Futaba 3PL and 3PK. No one used it so the feature was dropped. "At any rate, just turn it off if you dislike it..." Problem is that Traxxas is using it to justify a massive price hike. I've worked with embedded gyro sensors before, even a 3-axis unit on a breakout board is only $20 and you don't need something anywhere near that high-end for this. I had the same complaint when Losi started loading all their RTRs with AVC (they did that before Traxxas, in fact). "closed loop systens prevent failure. Again, take what you want from it, but it makes the most sense from a manufacturers point of view." Not going to argue against this. The problem is that Traxxas batteries are low-quality garbage being sold for premium prices. For the price of a 2S 5000mAh 20c soft-case pack from Traxxas, you can get a 2S 6000mAh _75c ROAR-approved hard-case_ pack from Turnigy and still have a good amount of money left to put towards second pack. I wouldn't have as much of an issue if Traxxas didn't insist on charging an arm and a leg for stuff that's blatantly not worth the price. People have compared Traxxas to Apple, and with a little market research it's easy to see the connection. I didn't like it when Horizon did it with the new Spektrum SMART series batteries either, although at least they had the common sense to include a separate balance plug in addition to the balance-capable primary plug and to not take the original EC3 off the market in the process. "If you cut a new arrma rc’s power cord, installed a traxxas connector, then called them for a warranty claim, would they laugh before hanging up?" They'll tell you to remove the aftermarket connector before sending the product to them for diagnostics. An electrical connector is just a set of contacts that allow for the quick connection of an electrical circuit, in a case that holds them together. There's very few issues that can actually apply to them and usually such issues are obvious, such as a loose wire or burnt or broken contact.
My E-Revo has never self righted... and there have been at least 20 attempts. I have just resigned to the fact that I may have to walk a 1/4 mile to go get it.
Hi Brett, yet another awesome video man, i could listen to you all day, you’re really knowledgeable everything rc. I’d love to own a traxxas, but they’re too expensive for me right now. Some day man. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧
This is why I bought Arrma, Granite. Battery much cheaper say$45 3s. Can get a charger say $30 the car$300..50 mph out the box,,budget people get Arrma.you won't regret it
I love my maxx. It’s such a tough truck. It takes such abuse and keeps going. Perfect truck for someone getting into the rc hobby. Can’t say enough good things about it. Is it perfect, nope but what is.
Been doing some online research on RC’s (I’m not an expert), but it seems to me that I want the robustness and durability of the Maxx, but in a lower weight layout so it doesn’t have such a tendency to roll when turning.
They still should do rustler 2wd vxl as is so awesome to use. If traxxas void warranty when you change clips maybe they should put better or more compatible clips from factory. I haven't seen any with standard. Probably way traxxas gets away with warranty by putting bad or wrong ones on. Get it sorted
The appeal of the maxx for me is the fact I have an x maxx so i have the batteries for it. But if they behave the same I may look at a rustler or the revo.
Thank you very much for the info on all three of these trucks. I have the Rustler and the MAXX, and I'm ready to get the E Revo. I also live where it snows, so I have paddle tires for the MAXX and Rustler. Waiting for all the Wide MAXX parts to get here. I guess I'm just a Traxxas type of guy. I love the Clipless body locking system. I'm told the Servos are weak, but I'm not hard on my Trucks.

E REVO hands down! out of the 3 choices. I had it since it came out. Insane truck, needs a few mods but never had a drivetrain problem. Jumped housed, hit houses, trees people! Lol
U hit people with the rc?!
Have u ever scored a strike?

I just love how truggies look, monster trucks don’t do it for me
True. Slash is alright
Agree, monster trucks irl look passable but rc ones just look like there's a piece of plastic stuck on top.
@@Ben.N
That really depends on the vehicle.
I just love how monster trucks look, truggies don’t do it for me
Othx reverse for me, that’s why I sold my arrmas, I don’t like rumba vacuum low stance look.
I have all three, and just bought my granddaughter a pink Rustler 4X4 VXL.
That's great! What a fun experience to pass down and R/C together.
-Brett
I have the Traxxas Rustler VXL and Absolutely 💯% Love it. I've wore out the clutch n replaced the driveshafts so far. Next I bought the Traxxas TRX-4 and now play with it more than the Rustler VXL. More fun climbing than just speeding around. Both are awesome n fun to play with. Have a safe day
Threw some sledgehammer tires on my Rustler VXL and things been great solid truck for my area
Nice! Those are great looking tires.
-Brett
Nailed it. I have a rustler 4x4 vxl and a jumpshot mt flux. Thing is, the rustler needs space and speed, it is impressive. But a monstertruck at lower speeds and rougher terrain is just more fun, and generally looks more impressive.
I have A Rustler, Maxx, E-Revo 2.0 & X-Maxx and By far my Favorite Is The Rustler 4×4 VXL.. most bang for the buck and its my favorite basher.
Just ordered the E Revo. I think I made the right choice.
You did
Till you break something
Gonna break everything
Should’ve went arrma bro.
Owned an e revo 2.0, even after upgraded parts that weren’t crap, still broke easily. Now I have an arrma talion and am never going back to traxxas
Have the Maxx Widemaxx just starting out. Only thing I done is moved the stock mount position to the outer hole handles much better.
e-revo is a great design - swap out the heavy monster style tires for the older version of the pro-line badlands and it's a screamer with a lot less stress on the drivetrain/electronics - add rpm goodies and mip axles and its a great vehicle
Much Awaited video, you just made the decision for these very vehicles, very easy for me.
Which one did you end up getting?
@@tranfamilymail well.. Thanks to the global pandemic, I couldn't come to usa for the summers, otherwise my heart is completely set on the Revo 2.0, although the new Hoss is also very nice but I feel that no other RC comes in the Revo's class.
I just purchased my Rustler 4x4 VXL few days ago and complaint i have is the body is way more difficult to put on then the Maxx. But i feel the Rustler Handles better.
I understand. Those bodies can be tricky to get installed correctly in the front.

Good video, I am in the market for a newer truck and the Rustler is right up my alley.
Another investment I’d get is this... something to hold the LiPo battery during charging and for LiPo storage... at the very least a LiPo sack big enough to hold your largest battery or better yet a LiPo battery box (BatBox is a good one sold by Amain Hobbies... unless you’d rather make your own if you are do it yourself savvy)... and other investment would be have a set of quality tools as stock ones may not be up to snuff for durability and sometimes, although kinda rare, even with included stock tools you don’t have all the ones you need.... case in point for nitro model users... extra air filter elements, air filter oil, and the biggie... after run oil (even though nitro/glow fuel nowadays says with its new features that after run procedures don’t need to be done for short term storage... a little of the real thing goes a long way in making sure your engine is kept safe and stored happy so next time you fire it up it’s gonna be fine... make sure the tune is good)
I don't get why people think these are all 10th scale
With most people it comes down to money, I recommend the Maxx because most of the time that's where you will end up anyway....I don't have a Revo, I have driven them they are very cool, but I'm a huge fan of the maxx, and the Rustler is awesome also...really you can't go wrong with any one of them...
I don't know they seem to break quite often I've never seen anybody go years… But your video is nice and I just purchased a rustler 4 x 4 brushless… Wish me luck I hope it lasts
Revo unchanged basically in 15+years long rain the king
Can you do an updated video comparing erevo 2.0 with Maxx v2 ‘with widemaxx’? thx
Great video! I have a rustler 4x4 looking to upgrade to one of the other two
Brilliant. The first time ever mentioning how long they run for. Appreciate that.
avoid the self righting it rips gears like no other
Thank's for that i was thinking it would be hard on it
I always thought that. It must be one of those lets give them a feature that gives us more parts replacement money
Can I take it off or ?
@@Luis-ic3bm
It's built into the radio system. You don't have to use it, though.
I don’t have problems with the self righting. And if I really rip the gears after 1 year use, then I think it’s worth it. Saved me a lot of walking. Yes, I am lazy!
Although I think all 3 are cool the Max is probably the toughest and performs well decent speeds right out the box but the Revo has better stability And probably a better racer and can rip up the parks with the est of the 1/10 If ya want the better basher go with Mini The other 2 are very cool
Informative vid Guy's I've been looking into a racer basher type truck I love the Revo well all of them lol but dang it's high then after all the extra batteries - accessories You know ya going to want at leas enough betteries to run 3-4 times lol

Nice comparison for beginners. Great job.
I think I'll buy all 3 for my collection.
I own the
T- Maxx
X-Maxx
XRT
I love your indept comparison videos
Hey remember me? I talked about that buggy i have on the video you did of the budget buggy build. I got it to finally work. The reason it took so long was that when i got my esc and motor combo from hobbywing, it was a used system so it came with a broken motor and i had to buy a new motor that came from china, so it took over a month to get the motor. But hey, at least it works really well.
Awesome, happy to hear it finally arrived and you're up and running! Have fun.

I got some heavy duty rods from traxxas fpr my 2.0 that solved it for me they had blue green and red but that was over a yr ago
Maxx all day long
Just add some fuel tubing to lower the max suspension and you get a much better performing truck. Total Cost: $5 bucks.
@@jgrc73
"tsm is superior to human capability when braking. Take what you will from it, but I assume you specify no abs on your 1:1 cars...?"
TSM isn't ABS. It's a gyro-based stability control system linked to the steering channel - effectively sticking an HPI D-Box or a heading hold unit for a helicopter in the receiver itself.
ABS was tried a while back with the Futaba 3PL and 3PK. No one used it so the feature was dropped.
"At any rate, just turn it off if you dislike it..."
Problem is that Traxxas is using it to justify a massive price hike.
Again, take what you want from it, but it makes the most sense from a manufacturers point of view."
Not going to argue against this.
"If you cut a new arrma rc’s power cord, installed a traxxas connector, then called them for a warranty claim, would they laugh before hanging up?"
They'll tell you to remove the aftermarket connector before sending the product to them for diagnostics. An electrical connector is just a set of contacts that allow for the quick connection of an electrical circuit, in a case that holds them together. There's very few issues that can actually apply to them and usually such issues are obvious, such as a loose wire or burnt or broken contact.
Thank you so much, this helped me a lot 😊
My E-Revo has never self righted... and there have been at least 20 attempts. I have just resigned to the fact that I may have to walk a 1/4 mile to go get it.
Going to buy the traxxas maxx from amain hobbies thank you!

I love my maxx. It’s such a tough truck. It takes such abuse and keeps going. Perfect truck for someone getting into the rc hobby. Can’t say enough good things about it. Is it perfect, nope but what is.
I love my Maxx too. But the plastic driveshaft just fail on me...

Good to hear from you again sir. Hope you’re safe given *everything* that seems to be going down States side. Any plans for some more build videos?

I have the rustler and got the dual charger cause I got the 5000 mah 3s lipo but two of them
Nice comparison Brett 👍 This video is obviously geared towards newbies so the number one thing I recommend is to NOT use Traxxas batteries and chargers. They are overpriced and inferior to similar lipos and chargers on the market 👍
What's a good alternative? Thanks! I'm new to this.
