What a nice surprise, glad to see you're still at it with the reface. Ive been using your sounds all year. There's so many, the average joe like me doesn't need to fuck with the fm if you don't want to, my man has you covered. You're doing the lords work my friend👍👍
Man thank you - I literally bought one of these about a year ago based on all of your other videos. Great sounds and great playing. You should be working for Yamaha or at least get paid for the work you put in! Thank you
@@TomAnsinkVideos You are right. But your talent is amazing for both playing and programming. You bring out the absolute best in this fab little synth.
You are amazing! You don't know how happy I was just for seeing that you had a new video with the reface X. I actually bought it before seeing your videos but when I saw them....god, I will never sell mine! Congrats for your amazing work Tom. You should make some piano (reface) lessons, you play really good! Regards from Portugal
my dx is filled with many of your tones tom thanks :) was just thinking i needed a good clav tone on it also! also EPs were a weak spot so thanks for your skill brother!
Lush Brass and Dr. Major are my favorite so far... Since I couldn't take the Jazzy Flute's texture I think I would sooner convert the Lush Brass into a Pulse/Sine or Square Flute to match the texture of a chiptunesque Flute. These are great patches!!!
My DX is made up entirely of your great sounds, but once I land on HipsteOrgan I’m not going to get anything done for the next hour. Ridiculous fun. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much, i really like the sounds you made on all your videos. Exactly for the kind music i like to play. I also have a roland system-1 and it's really hard to find sounds for it.
Tom your patches are soooo good.. have inspired me in many wayz. Any chance of a video where you show us the process of creating sounds (organ.ep.bass.synth) would be amaaazeballs !!
Hello, thanks for your comments. Some asked me for a video how to before, the problem is that i go a lot by ear, one thing are the fundamentals how a synth or an FM synth works. This you find on YT better than I can explain, but from there I go lot by ear, I only think how does the form or shape overtime has to be (attack decay release ect.) and 2 the tone (Saw sine square modulated operator´s ect.) and also the effect on dynamics on that and where on the keybed (tracking). It a bit like how to make a song, it's easier to explain chords than how to make a song because it comes down to your taste.
I can't imagine what you'd do with a hydrasynth, I started off with a DX because of your videos, and have recently got a hydrasyth explorer and feel like it's a logic upgrade from a reface DX with so much potential HINT HINT ;) Seriously though, you're the main reason I begin learning Keys, specifically after seeing your first DX video!
Oh wow you start playing because of my video? That's pretty cool. And yes, I was thinking of getting a Hydrasynth too. It looks very well-designed. The layout ect, I tried it a bit in a shop. it's a lot more complex than the reface, but in a good way.
Best sounds on Soundmondo, for absolute sure, and your playing is fun. The Modal Cobalt8 I think has potential, but most sounds I hear sound similar. You could definitely sell some good patches, as there are not that many. If you could make usable sounds that aren't just weird noises for the Microfreak, you'd be a minor god. The one sound I've never come across as a bass player is the Whitney Houston (Randy Jackson) bassline sound. It shouldn't be that hard, but I've never come across a patch that matches it. 😀
Que maravilla de diseño de sonidos, muy buen trabajo, felicitaciones y gracias por compartirlos! / What a wonderful sound design, very good work, congratulations and thank you for sharing them!
Wow just discovered these. Interested in drifting slightly breezy organic sounding pads - I've seen some people do this surprisingly well with FM... but usually not done on FM! but when it can be done, it really shines, it seems!
You have a soulful feel to your playing that reminds me of Stevie Wonder circa early 70s. And you really know how to bring our the very best of this little synth. The question is how do we get your custom patches?
Hey, another great flute sound in this collection! I use your earlier "Flute DX" sound very often when composing. Do you have a Montage or MODX by any chance? I would love for some of these sounds to be translated to FM-X, though I know it is not that easy from my own experiments. Anyway, thanks for the awesome sounds!
Hello, nice to hear that, I did own a ModX for a couple of weeks. I didn't try to emulate the reface. The FM on that is a lot more complex, it will easier to make the MODX or Montage sound like the reface than vice versa. I really don't know, but I suspect that the Reface DX was not designed by the same people as the Montage/ModX. It almost feels like a different brand to me.
@@TomAnsinkVideos Yeah, the FM-X engine in the Montage/MODX is basically the same as in the FS1R - minus the formant synthesis - whereas the Reface DX engine seems to be completely new. The two-way feedback on every operator really makes it much more powerful than it appears on first glance. Too bad it can't be modulated.
Thanks, maybe something similar, but it will never be exactly like old analog machines with lots of filter sweeps going on. Depends on which sound, I guess.
i've played piano for most my life yet i feel like i'm several lifetimes away from playing as good as you. do you have any advice for a classically trained person who's barely done any improvising? i admire your playing so, so much, i wish i could get to a similar level, with enough practice. also cheers man, you made me buy the DX, i was really yearning something portable for live jamming ;)
Hi Nice one.I love my Yamaha keys . I have a YC61 plus both a CP and DX reface. Biggest disappointment is none of them have a Good harp, which to me playing here in Ireland is a sad omission Essentially it’s nothing more than a fundamental piano. I’d love to find one somewhere😢
Hi Martin, is that the DX11 Module? The DX11 is a synth I still have on my "to try list". But it's not the same and doesn't have the effects that the reface has, and it's a different FM engine.
@@martinwicker7015 I had the DX11 it used non sine waveforms. Excellent synth but may be hard to translate these patches to it. Alot of tweaking might get you close. I am an FM fanatic. But until I heard these demos by our man here. I was never really turned on by the REFACE DX. I now realize its got a great sonic potential. And I've pulled the trigger and ordered one. It comes tomorrow. Then I will take a deep look at it. And see what I can pull out of it. I mastered the original DX7. So this should be a walk in the park in comparison.
Pulse wave is sort of possible by modulating operators, but it doesn't sound 100% like on a subtractive synth. But that's a bit with all the waveforms anyway. There are lots of string patches on Soundmondo. Also, some on my profile. I was happy when I sold my real banjo.
