The piano and musical breakdown from School was used in a commercial for our annual local boat show at the convention centre. It was used for several years in the early 80s. Was the first time I'd heard the song, and to this day when I hear it, something inside always says to me "It's the boat show song!"
Supertramp is one of my ALL-TIME favourite bands for their incredibly diverse sound. This song in particular is one of my favourites to sing along with. I got to see the lead singer, Roger Hodgson, in concert, and the music is simply AWESOME! Breakfast in America and, if you want a LONG song, Fool's Overture are equally strong!
My favorite song of theirs. Love it. Fool's Overture. I have playing it on my stereo. I hope they listen to it. They will appreciate Supertramp even more. Big surprise when I first heard it.
EVERY song on the Crime of the Century LP is well worth a reaction from you two! "School", "Dreamer", "Rudy", "Asylum", "Hide In Your Shell", etc! And then, when you are done with those, you can start on the "Crisis? What Crisis? album!
Whenever anyone does Supertramp, I always recommend a more obscure song "Lord Is It Mine?" It really is beautiful...just Roger and the piano. Saw their last tour. I can't remember if it was 82 or 83. Scrounged up the money, finally was able to buy on the day of the concert, somehow me and my friend got 8th row. This was before they had different prices for different seats. $32. Awesome concert.
Well, I didn't do exactly that -- but their story reminded me of walking and riding my bike to the local mall to buy records around that time. Supertramp was a big part of those days and.... quite right! Ah...memories.
Pink Floyd, Supertramp and The Alan Parsons Project have a little of each in their music. side note..I met the band members after concert and all were very humble and they are very professional when performing. Not alot of show antics
Crime of the century album, to truly be appreciated, should be listened to in it's entirely. But if you're picking out individual songs, then School, Hide in your shell, Rudy and of course Crime of The Century are all musts!
If you want a beautiful and profound song, "Lord Is It Mine", if you want a song with two voices and with an exceptional piano base, "Just A Normal Day" and if you want a nostalgic song remembering childhood, "School". Saludos
This is one of those bands That could play a Little bit of everything like ELO. Every time I hear certain songs by Supertramp reminds me of an old buddy of mine from back in the late 70s one of my best friends lived across the street from me for years and died of leukemia. He was a major fan of Supertramp and it’s just one of those bands that’ll always be with me.
No one ever does it, but for sax (and a children's choir) you can't beat 'It's Raining Again'. It's the one that had the Royal Albert Hall singing along when I saw Roger Hodgson in concert!
"Bloody Well Right" was the 2nd single from Supertramp's 3rd album, "Crime Of The Century (released 13 Sept 1974). Initially the B-side to the 1st single, "Dreamer', "Bloody Well Right" became Supertramp's breakthrough hit, reaching number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. Other popular song from "Crime Of The Century are "Dreamer", "School" and "Hide In Your Shell."
Just another brilliant British band doing it bloody well right! Check out a similar band, XTC doing 'We're Only Making Plans For Nigel', I think you'll dig it.
There are two Pink Floyd type songs and they are both on the "Even in the Quietest Moments" album one is called "Fool's Overture" and the other is the title track "Even in the Quietest Moments" they are both beautiful songs. You can close your eyes and let yourself go to both of them.
All the times I've listened to this song before, I've been focused on the obvious parts; Rick Davies's work on the piano and his vocals, Roger Hodgson on the guitar, John Helliwell on the sax. But, because Jay really loves the bass and because i've been writing comments here and was completely embarrassed when I could never recall Dougie Thomson's name (on multiple occasions!), I paid especial attention to him this time through and dang! Is that one FAT and throbbing bass line. Nice. So thank you guys for not only giving me the enjoyment of watching your reactions, but for making me listen more closely and thus enjoy the song even more. (And belated apologies to Dougie for having overlooked him, previously.)
Supertramp had so many hits in the 70's. Their sound highlighted by a Wurlitzer electric piano, beautiful orchestra and a lot of wailing sax as you know Amber. Dreamer Take the Long Way Home Goodbye Stranger The Logical Song Can't go wrong with SuperTramp. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
This was their breakthrough US hit in the 70s. Interesting backstory on this band of musical geniuses. A wealthy patron fronted their bills for a good while as they honed their sound and perfected their art. They were on the verge of being cut off and destitute when things finally clicked for them.
That wonderful saxophone player is John Helliwell. Although the band is led by Roger Hodgson & Rick Davies (including most if not all of the writing), John was the "Bandleader" on stage during live concerts. He did all the chatter including some lengthy song introductions during the shows. In addition to sax he played an entire music box of percussion instruments such as cowbell, tambourine, triangle, assorted bells & whistles and backing vocals. A very busy man!
Commenting before watching, because you're going to bloody well like it! Next do: Dreamer, School, Rudy, Hide in Your Shell, Sister Moonshine...this band was HUGE for a long time, lots more hits to react to! 👍☮❤
At the time - 74-75 - in the UK, "bloody" was still widely considered a shocking swear word, for some reason, and the song had little or no airplay. But it was a hit in the US, even as a B side, because there wasn't such a problem with the word. Anyway, as others have said, you should really listen to this as a companion piece and a segue from the first track on the album, School
Supertramp was a band I'd heard of but never listened to as a kid or teen - not sure why I never checked them out - but, as an adult, I'm discovering them along with you and loving it as well. It's fun to watch y'all react to music that I already love but it's also great to discover new bands and music with you. I'm kind of sad I missed out on Supertramp back in the day (though I'm not sure I would have appreciated them as much back then, tbh) but really stoked to be finding them now. So good! And, as someone who dabbles in music as a hobby, bands like Supertramp are so inspiring. Anyway, great reaction, y'all, as always!
The "forgotten" album that followed this one (Crime of the Century) was "Crisis? What Crisis?" and that's got some really tasty songs on it, too! I love the songs "Easy Does It," "Ain't Nobody But Me," "Another Man's Woman," "Lady," and "Poor Boy" from that album just to name a few. Never seen any other channels react to a song from Crisis, except for Sister Moonshine. You could be the first 😀
I bought this album, Crime of the Century, during my sophomore year at BYU in 1974 and was blown away! I actually used the words to the song "School" in a paper I did on adolescent psychology and got an "A" on it. I listen to this album quite frequently to this day as it never grows old. My favorite Supertramp song is Fool's Overture!
Jay- Do you recall "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp? It's the one where Roger Hodgson sings in falsetto,🎵Goodbye Mary, Goodbye Jane🎵 and it has that kick-a__ guitar solo outro at the end. It has some cool transitions too. I can't over-emphasize the influence Supertramp has had on my younger years. Looking back, they were one of the most underrated bands ever. But thanks to RUclips reactors like you and Amber, they are garnering the appreciation they deserve. I love their pop songs the most. Some you've yet to hear: *Breakfast In America* *Oh Darlin'* *Dreamer* And *It's Raining Again* (just like now in the Chicago area ☔️🌧)("It's Raining Again was released in 1982 and brought their sound into the next decade)
This is probably my favorite Supertramp song ever, and to see you did a reaction video makes it even better! I've always felt like it's the kind of song you could hear in a bar, and when that chorus comes up, you'd raise your glass before downing your drink. QUITE RIGHT!
Supertramp and their outros are out of this world! They always give you more bang for your buck. Where most bands will say "that's a great song. That's enough", Supertramp, instead takes it to yet another level. After they've marveled you with great singing, deep lyrics and beautifully arranged music, and the listener is fully satisfied, Supertramp says "But wait, there's more!".
Yup....Dreamer. I had it on 45 when I was a kid. I played the heck out of it , to the great annoyance of my mom. "TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN!" dont make me take that record player away for a week , young man.
Where have your ears been? This is forty years old! I've seen Supertramp live several times back in there prime and they were absolutely mind blowing!!!
So glad that you guys got to Bloody Well Right (I've been waiting for months for you to do this). You're next Supertramp song needs to be School from the Crime of the Century album, then Rudy, Dreamer, and Hide in Your Shell. There's much more than this, but you'll be pleased with these choices. FYI, you've used their greatest hits album cover a couple of times. This cover incorporates elements from several of their albums, most notably the prison bars from Crime of the Century and the hand holding the plate and glass from Breakfast in America. You may want to see them live sometime, so check out any of their performances from Paris Live in 1979...they are incredible.
the album “crime of the century “ is a concept album... it tells the story of a man named “Rudy”.... it really needs to be listened to in full to understand the story .... “school” is the 1st song on the album and where the story begins...
Glad yer gettin' around to all these great songs! BWR features Rick Davies singing the lead vocal, and playing the "Wurly," a Wurlitzer electric piano. He also sings on Goodbye Stranger, and Oh Darling, another radio hit from Breakfast in America, while most of the other Supertramp hit songs have Roger Hodgson singing in his strong, clear, often amazingly high voice. Supertramps still got a bunch of great music to experience: "Child Of Vision" "Dreamer" "It's Raining Again" "Oh Darling" (Rick Davies sings this one too) "Breakfast In America" (more)
Supertramp is one of those unique bands that never disappoints you. So glad you guys appreciate music that amazes us. My favorite songs by the group is still "Take the Long Way Home" and "The Logical Song" but to be honest I could go on and on.
We are ALL fans of this amazing band! SUPERTRAMP!!!!!! they lived in Venice, California between the albums of "Crime" and Breakfast... A&M Records was the only visionary label who knew how to market this geniuses!
Roger Hodgson is among the top handful of songwriters alive today. His arrangements that support his amazing stories (words of the songs) are first-class. Add to that, he is one of THE MOST GIFTED PIANO PLAYERS ALIVE TODAY!!! Simply perfection!!! (Check Roger out in some of his live concerts available on RUclips - circa 2000).
You two are the best!! Everything on this album *Crime Of The Century* is stellar and worth reacting to👌However, you havent quite finished with *Breakfast In America* yet... the track "Child Of Vision" is ridiculously good.
This is such an awesome song and still valid today....hope you guys react to "School", being that you're both teachers I thought you may relate well to that one, plus it has great harmonica on it....hope everyone has had an amazing day. Peace, love, and happiness to all from your friendly neighbor from the north....😎🙏❤️
English band, "Bloody" is an English expletive that most closely corresponds to "f*cking." So they're saying "You're f*cking right." Also, the sax player John Helliwell, served as the band's MOC for the concerts. During this song, he used a megaphone 📣 chime in on the chorus, which had "Right" on one side, & "Quite Right" on the other.
This entire album is just freaking awesome. There are so many songs that are epic that people forget to mention. "Hide in your Shell" (the music in this one tugs at my heartstrings), "Rudy", "If Everyone Was Listening", "School" and even "Dreamer". You could react to any or all of those songs and not go wrong!!
Their use of dynamics are brilliant. Saw them live and it was one of the most musical performances I've ever heard. There were so many instruments on the stage, it was awesome.
Bought this album when it first came out, one of my favourite albums ever, fantastic musically and the lyrics seemed to express my emotions at the time - I was 17 or 18.
Always love your reactions. This was delightful and I really love this album, I believe it came out right before breakfast in America which you have mostly covered and which reactors mostly cover. Just so good.
If you two love the saxophone, you would love some Steely Dan. Aja, Deacon Blues, Gaucho, Doctor Wu and more--all have some soulful sax as pieces in their arrangements. Highly recommended.
When you see most groups live they sound not so much like on a recording. They seemed nearly the same so crisp clear and together live. 8 th row center at a 18000 seat arena probably had a bit to do with it.
PLEASE REACT TO… THE RAMONES!!! They playing and singing style was so unique for the times! And such an amazing band! Would love to see your reaction to their “ unique and genius “ sound! Thanks for all that you do! Love your reactions!
Asylum from the Crime Of The Century album is probably my favorite Supertramp song, though admittedly they've got quite an impressive catalog of great songs
The Greatest Hits album cover you referred to where the waitress from the Breakfast in America album has her hand through the bars is a nod to the album Crime of the Century which has the bars with two hands grasping them. The Crime of the Century album has always been my favorite and every song on that album is worth a listen. As mentioned earlier, School is great and Rudy is awesome. Another album that I love is Even in the Quietest Moments.
The Supertramp live album is just amazing to listen to as they recreate many of their songs perfectly but with the extra energy of a live performance and everything that Amber says she would go to the concert for.
Lead singer Roger Hodgeson had a hit afterwards. I loved the song. Something different. Had a Dream (sleeping with the enemy) I think you guys would love it.
If you love supertramp and their sax, I suggest you next these 4 super songs : "It's Raining again" , "Don't leave me know" , "Child's of vision" & "My kinda Lady"
"Breakfast in America" was just a total ride. "Crime of the Century" was one of the best engineered albums of all time. Supertramp simply rocks!!!!!
Totally agree. Especially for the year it came out
Both albums are in my top 10 all time
I remember when this album came out, it had such a clean sound that all of the stereo shops were using it to demo their hardware - great album.
I remember this so well, plus I had a boyfriend that would sing it to me in German, now that's a trip. LOL
So right! Bloody well! I include "even in the quietest moments" with crime of the century!
"School" needs to be your next one - an absolutely GLORIOUS piano segment!
The piano and musical breakdown from School was used in a commercial for our annual local boat show at the convention centre. It was used for several years in the early 80s. Was the first time I'd heard the song, and to this day when I hear it, something inside always says to me "It's the boat show song!"
Agreed!
One of the best piano solos I've ever heard !
Yes agreed! SCHOOL IS EPIC
Watch the live version
Yes, I agree: "Breakfast In America" from Supertramp should be your next song reaction, you'll love!
Another song that has been heavily sampled by other artists.
You guys have only scratched the surface. This band is freaking amazing.
Yep, yep and yep!
YES
Apart from anything else, argueably the best live band ever.
"Hide in Your Shell", "School", "Dreamer", & so many more. You are only scratching the surface with Supertramp.
yes, this was just their 5th Supertramp song
Aye , Dreamer. (My personal favorite)
Ya Fool's Overture is just on another level for me. love Supertramp as well. i hope they react to a live version of Fool's Overture.
if Supertramp's transitions are what you like Fools Overturre is their ultimate
My favorite song of theirs. Love it. Fool's Overture. I have playing it on my stereo. I hope they listen to it. They will appreciate Supertramp even more. Big surprise when I first heard it.
It is definitely a fabulous song. It's killer live.
Check out Hodgson's solo work too. The album about a friend's suicide was a journey.
EVERY song on the Crime of the Century LP is well worth a reaction from you two! "School", "Dreamer", "Rudy", "Asylum", "Hide In Your Shell", etc! And then, when you are done with those, you can start on the "Crisis? What Crisis? album!
Crisis is highly underrated imo. Perhaps it suffers from following Crime.
Totally agree underrated album
excellent suggestion, Key
And after Crisis, time for Even in the Quietest Moments
I forgot about Rudy and what great song that is
Yes!! My fav Supertramp song! This song has everything you want.
Amber & Jay I also fervently suggest *Lord, Is It Mine?* A rare gem. Not many similar sacred rock/pop songs out there.
Definitely love this song. Slightly obscure for sure, but one of my favourites of theirs.
Yes!!! Such a beautiful song, absolutely love that one.
I agree. The deeper album cuts are often better imo. Lord is it Mine is hardly ever reacted to. In fact I may only have seen one once.
Fool's overture and Rudy! Classic Supertramp!
The most underrated classic rock band ever! God, I love this song! :)
"Underrated"? Uh, I don't think so.
@@waynemarvin5661 yessss no one talks about these guys when mentioning great bands
Ah yes so again an underrated band. Underrated seams to be the word of the century for some.
I can still remember walking to Montgomery Ward with my sister when she bought this album! We played it over and over! Great Memories!
Quite right!
You walked where? lol I know
Well, I didn't do exactly that -- but their story reminded me of walking and riding my bike to the local mall to buy records around that time. Supertramp was a big part of those days and.... quite right! Ah...memories.
the Best band name ever. and great band aswell.
Fool's overture
Child of vision
Rudy
Probably their three best songs...go for It!
Even in the quietest moments, Lord is it mine and Casual conversations are three Supertramp songs that you should react to.
I liked this band when I heard them in the 70s. Songs like The Logical Song, Take The Long Way Home, Breakfast In America and this tune
Pink Floyd, Supertramp and The Alan Parsons Project have a little of each in their music. side note..I met the band members after concert and all were very humble and they are very professional when performing. Not alot of show antics
Crime of the Century is an EPIC album - the engineering was (still is) stunning for the time - Rudy and School remain my favorite songs.
Crime of the century album, to truly be appreciated, should be listened to in it's entirely. But if you're picking out individual songs, then School, Hide in your shell, Rudy and of course Crime of The Century are all musts!
Absolutely - you're bloody well right!!
Absolutely agree!!!
If you want a beautiful and profound song, "Lord Is It Mine", if you want a song with two voices and with an exceptional piano base, "Just A Normal Day" and if you want a nostalgic song remembering childhood, "School". Saludos
Been waiting for this reaction! Amber can we get more Jim Croce please and thank you “Operator (Thats Not The Way It Feels)”
This is one of those bands That could play a Little bit of everything like ELO.
The same here in Canada. They had their highest sales here and when this album took off they were on the verge of moving on.
This is just ONE great song from the album, Crime of the Century! There's not a bad song on the entire album, so you should listen to the whole thing.
That wonderful saxophone player is John Helliwell. OMG! “Crime if the Century” is one of the best albums ever recorded. Loving this!
This song is older than I thought. This had quite a lot of air time on the rock stations in the 1980's......
This song was released on the crime of the century album. Their smash album. released in 1974
Love Supertramp!!! Try “School” awesome piano riff!!🤘🔥
3 soloists in 1 band is rare. Roger Hodgeson (the dude with the high voice) is truly an underappreciated guitar hero.
Do SCHOOL!
I completely agree with you Amber. You just can't go wrong with SuperTramp
Supertramp will absolutely devastate you on two really great songs.
CHILD OF VISION,
& CANNONBALL.
GUARANTEED !!!
Supertramp has several fantastic songs.
Probably my FAVORITE Supertramp song. AWESOME!!! Thanks for taking a listen! 👍

Love Supertramp. They have their own sound. The jazz influence is what makes it.
Supertramp was a band I'd heard of but never listened to as a kid or teen - not sure why I never checked them out - but, as an adult, I'm discovering them along with you and loving it as well. It's fun to watch y'all react to music that I already love but it's also great to discover new bands and music with you. Raining in Toronto 👍✌️🇨🇦
Rick Davies sang the falsetto.
THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS SONG! I knew you'd love the change of sounds and rhythms! One of my favorite Supertramp songs.
The song opening is played on a Wurlitzer Electric piano.
This is probably my favorite Supertramp song ever, and to see you did a reaction video makes it even better!
I've always felt like it's the kind of song you could hear in a bar, and when that chorus comes up, you'd raise your glass before downing your drink.

Supertramp's 1974 breakthough album "Crime of the Century" from which this song came is an absolute Masterpiece!
"Dreamer" and "Loverboy" would be great to follow up with. If you love a cool saxophone try Robert Plant's "Pledge Pin".
Either one would be good
Yup....Dreamer. I had it on 45 when I was a kid. I played the heck out of it , to the great annoyance of my mom. "TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN!" dont make me take that record player away for a week , young man.
Pledge Pin is blade

English band, "Bloody" is an English expletive that most closely corresponds to "f*cking." So they're saying "You're f*cking right."
Also, the sax player John Helliwell, served as the band's MOC for the concerts. During this song, he used a megaphone 📣 chime in on the chorus, which had "Right" on one side, & "Quite Right" on the other.
Just awesome in concert.
This one, along with Give A Little Bit, are my two favorite Super Tramp tunes. Thanks for doing this one! 👍
Seeing this band just added to the magic of their style. Love them
My favorite Supertramp song.
Amazing group with so many fantastic songs.
I think I was a junior in high school when Breakfast in America came out. All of us had this album. Every song on it is excellent!
I was going into Freshman year. What a perfect soundtrack for that summer of '79!
Such a talented band in so many ways!
Always love your reactions. This was delightful and I really love this album, I believe it came out right before breakfast in America which you have mostly covered and which reactors mostly cover. Just so good.
Love their songs!!! Keep em coming! One of my favorite bands since middle school!
Nothing like a good set of headphones, great music and a good buzz to enjoy an evening.
wonderful contrast between that loud bass and the light keyboard sound - a real pearl - I am not surprised.....it's Supertramp
Welcome aboard! Another great band from my youth. It was the best of times, and I didn't even realize it.
If you two love the saxophone, you would love some Steely Dan. Aja, Deacon Blues, Gaucho, Doctor Wu and more--all have some soulful sax as pieces in their arrangements. Highly recommended.
DEACON BLUES PLEASE 🙏 💙
When you see most groups live they sound not so much like on a recording. They seemed nearly the same so crisp clear and together live. 8 th row center at a 18000 seat arena probably had a bit to do with it.
Nice! I saw this tour in Detroit back in the day. Fantastic concert!
PLEASE REACT TO… THE RAMONES!!! They playing and singing style was so unique for the times! And such an amazing band! Would love to see your reaction to their “ unique and genius “ sound! Thanks for all that you do! Love your reactions!
I was waiting sooooooooo long for the next supertramp reaction, wished you would do one every month, there is so much to discover.
Asylum from the Crime Of The Century album is probably my favorite Supertramp song, though admittedly they've got quite an impressive catalog of great songs
Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger! (The Best one!)
What a great band! And what a great song! Keep listening and reacting to Supertramp! :)
ANOTHER brilliant British band.
Supertramp are one of the greatest British bands in history.
Again, you are hitting all the high notes of my childhood! I love their records and this was a favourite!
If you love supertramp and their sax, I suggest you next these 4 super songs : "It's Raining again" , "Don't leave me know" , "Child's of vision" & "My kinda Lady"
This was a great album. I was in high school then. I think "School" was my favorite song which was earlier in the 70's.
Fools Overture is an absolute must! Also school, but fools Overture is a mind numbing trip!!!
