The drummer for this band was my high school baseball coach, Bob Siebenberg, and he talked about their tours and the stuff they got to experience. Pretty wild 😂
I was usually disappointed with the radio play of "Goodbye Stranger" because the stations usually cut out the guitar solo which is surely one of the most delicious solos of all time.
I mean, Supertramp had several top 10 albums including a number one, and a handful of top 40 hits (prog rock bands don't usually have much singles success). ELO had five top 10 albums, seven top 10 singles and 20 top 40 singles. I don't think either were THAT underappreciated, compared to some bands that people have never heard of
Supertramp's greatest attribute is without doubt their exceptional talent in 'musical arrangement'. The entry and disappearance of different instruments throughout their pieces to instigate a particular dramatic effect is nothing short of genius. They are individually quite talented with their own instruments of choice, but it is the total conception of what they want to present which is magical and extremely entertaining for the listener. God bless you Supertramp..

First of all, I love you two! I was in the Army, mid 70s, in the middle of Germany, with nothing to do. No tv to watch and nothing to fill off time with. I got a kick ass stereo for my dorm room, and Supertramp was one of my favorites to crank up. Listening to their songs is like riding an audio rollercoaster. Absolutely love your reactions!
Back in 1977, when I was a senior in high school, I was stood up by a girl (for a high school dance) and walked along the Lake Michigan shoreline dressed in a brand new suit, weeping my eyes out. Tired of feeling sorry for myself, i remembered that someone I knew lived nearby and had friends over for a small party. I decided to go there, despite my puffy eyes. For some reason the memory of stepping into that friend's house always stuck in my mind: She had Supertramp playing on her stereo, and the song was "Give a Little Bit." The combination of the music and being with good friends actually wiped the memory of being stood up out of my mind, and I managed to have a great time. 😀

This song actually represents my mother. Because I had no idea of anything about her life when she was younger, she refused to talk about it. And her and I never had any in-depth conversations about anything about life, in general. Her and I were basically Strangers to one another. And I will let you know that the last time I listened to this song, was right around January of 2016...until today. I have not been able to bring myself to listen to this song, until I was listening to your reaction videos and this one just started playing without my knowledge. But thank you for bringing me back to it. RIP Doris Ann 11/08/1951 to 01/07/2017❤
There are five band members in Supertramp. I'm so happy you love them, Amber. They have been my favourite group for almost 50 years, with ELO close behind. Goodbye Stranger was a massive hit for them and is from the Breakfast in America album. As great as the entire LP is, in my opinion it may be only their third or fourth-best album - that's how amazing their albums were in the 1970s. As much as they are loved and admired by many they are still vastly underrated in the history of rock/pop music. It is a total travesty that they are still not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They have their own sound. The musicianship is top rate and the lyrics from Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson range from happy to very bleak and dark. They have a lot of social commentary in their words especially from their all-time classic album Crime of the Century, my favourite LP ever. They use saxophone, electric piano, clarinet and harmonica in such beautiful ways. Please react to a lot more Supertramp, and not just from Breakfast in America, their most successful album commercially. Every song on Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments and Famous Last Words is either great or worth listening to at the very least.
@@G-BUD_Budlong I have the original records for ELO and Supertramp too. In the case of Supertramp, I spent more than double the going rate for an album back in the early to mid-1980s and bought the specially pressed, half-speed mastered discs called the Audiophile series. They were CD quality records before CDs came out or as the Compact Disc format was just becoming popular. They look and sound great still, 40 years later.
Give a little bit, Dreamer... such fun songs. you can't go wrong with this group, its one band whos songs are ALL bangers! I wish I could go back and listen to Supertramp for the first time again... Crime of the Century was another album full of winners!
Are you starting to realize why the older generation is always saying that today's "popular" music sucks compared to back in the day? 😁 These guys have so many fantastic tunes. Another rabbit hole for you to go down.
Nahhh.....each time has its own bands and music..there is no better or worse..we just remember the better ones and not all the crap we had to hear at radio etc..
@@rapsack7058 I put parentheses around the word popular for a reason. I'm not talking about music in general I'm talking about the music that's played over the radio. Not the music scene in general, which is solid. If you were to compare the top 10 Billboard songs right now to the top 10 songs in say 1976, do you think today's popular music holds up? Do you think Nicky Minaj really stacks up against someone like Janis Joplin? Both the music production business and the radio business has changed dramatically since then. Back in the day DJs weren't forced to play certain music. Back then radio stations weren't confined to one genre. I respectfully disagree.
@@ajschroetlin2196 Ahh....i am born 1970...so...Jenis Joblin was way before my time...But in the 80's there were a lot of crap that were popular... Thankfully i dont remember to much...BUT i know that we were very selective...when we recorded our own tapes And you needed to be in the sceen to learn what bands exsisted...there were lots of niches.. I am not sure if this is still the case...... I was never a charts fan or so...But very open for different styles and sceenes.. When i speakl with my the younger ones i i have the feelings they still have the same culture of music not style or so, but special music sceenes and subculturs...ad with the modern "cheap professional" equipment you have very nice but hidden alternative market. Today its quite easy to to make a high standard record...if you have the skills... I dont know....i think i cant judge it... If you see just the "modern" mainstream you find musicians like Eminem and i thin he made realy graet stuff...i thinkt he kidsfof our kids will still listen to him... SO no...cant say old times were better just different. Each era has there own heros and special styles...
I’ve been into Supertramp since 1974... If they are not my favorite band, they are in the top 2... their music catalog is like blood for the heart !! Can Never get enough... will never get old !!
My absolute favorite Supertramp song - cannot listen to this in the car without exceeding the speed limit and cranking the volume way up - awesome reaction!!
The guitar player in this is Roger Hodgson.. He's the guy who sang "The Logical Song" And "Take The Long Way Home" and played keyboards in both of those. The singer in this one was Rick Davies who also plays keyboards. I think one of their iconic sounds that give away it's a Supertramp song is that old Wurlitzer electric piano that's featured in many of their songs along with the high harmonies.
Great reaction. It’s a pleasure to see young folks not only liking this song, but to give an intelligent and well articulated description as to what you like about the song and the band. You have a new subscriber.
GREAT band, while I was listening to my Kiss records as an 8 or 9 year old kid, every now and then I would sneak into my older sisters room and play her records, doesn't get any more nostalgic than this
For those who don't wish to scroll way down, the lead singer and composer here is keyboardist Rick Davies. Most of the group's hits were written and sung by Roger Hodgson, who is also a fine bassist, guitarist and keyboardist. On various songs, Davies, Dave Winthrop (up to 1973), and John Helliwell played harmonica, sax, flute and woodwinds. Check out the fantastic recent live performances featuring Hodgson and Helliwell.
I saw them in San Antonio on their Breakfast in America tour. Dancing bananas and gorillas highlighted the evening. Every bit as composed live as in the studio. Great band.
Don't Leave Me Now (Amber will love the sax), Fool's Overture, Dreamer, and Hide In Your Hell are some of my favourites (with Goodbye Stranger). So many great songs.I met the band when I was 8... it left a mark on me. 🙂 I saw Roger Hodgson shortly before the pandemic hit... still sounds incredible live.
You guys are three-for-free on awesome Supertramp songs! Ironically, all three songs you've done (this, "The Logical Song" and "Take the Long Way Home") are all from the same album, "Breakfast in America". You should listen to that entire album, as it rocks from beginning to end. For your next song, you should do "Bloody Well Right", "It's Raining Again", or my personal fave, "Give a Little Bit". Thanks for reacting!
@@j.j.8012 I actually remember one time when I went to church during a contemporary worship service, the band played "Give A Little Bit" to kick off the service, because the sermon later was on the topic of giving

"Goodbye Stranger", "School", "Bloody Well Right", "It's Raining Again" ... there are just way too many great songs by Supertramp, but these are definitely my top 4. One of the all-time greatest bands! It's a 5-man band, but through the years, they've been through about 20 total members who have come and gone. Rogert Hodgson is lead singer and a founding member of Supertramp. I hope you continue exploring them! Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
“Breakfast in America” was a quadruple platinum selling album in the USA alone ...selling over 4 million copies here . It had 4 Billboard top 100 hits too. Everyone had this album when I was in H.S. Roger Hodgson was the singer and guitar player in the band btw so that was him on the ending solo.
@@jerrycote659 they did such a good job alternating singers to fit the song. Roger is awesome with the harmonies and i think this is Rick's best lead vocal..
Further along in this crazy play...nice to see you again my friends...so nice to bop along with u 2 with this fun music...just what the world needs alot of now...Ty
"Goodbye Stranger" and "Logical Song" were from the more commercial successful album "Breakfast in America" . Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
I can't thank you enough for introducing Supertramp to a new generation. My brother had the album Crime of the Century. It has been my favorite album of all time! I bought the album, cassette, CD and yes, it is still at the top of my playlist. It warms my heart that you like them. I have often wondered if anyone else still appreciates them. Almost 50 yrs later, I can listen to them everyday. Thank you so much!! You Rock!
Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!
@@corchem I meant "breakthrough" as in most commercially successful album. If you asked 10 random people to name a Supertramp album I don't know if any could even name a Supertramp album but I think more people who are not necessarily Supertramp fans would know Breakfast in America rather than Crime Of The Century. Just my opinion. In fact many casual fans probably never heard of Crime of the Century. I'm talking casual fans not super fans like yourselve.
I so agree! Whenever I hear this song, I know that outro guitar solo is on the way! I couldn't wait for Jay and Amber to get to that part! You can see their reaction when it gets there. It's like a major musical release. I rocked along with them! 🎤🎸🎹🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵😊
@@stretchgilbert I get it. Crime of the Century launched them into the industry as legitimate artists, known around the world. It is the album that was their true breakthrough in the music world. The average person is not familiar with early 70s Yes, but knows the 80s 90125 stuff, yet the true Yes fan knows what really broke them through. So you are not wrong from the perspective of the general public. But the true music fan knows otherwise. Here is a link to Wiki, read about the reception of the album, or the whole article if you like: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_of_the_Century_(album)
"School" is my all-time favorite Supertramp song. The entire "Crime of the Century" album is a masterpiece. What a great band to be obsessed with. The 70's was a great time to grow up music-wise. Welcome to my (our) world!
Among my large album collection back in college I splurged for two master pressed LPs - Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Supertramp's "Crime of the Century". Cranking the amp to 10 for the harmonica, scream and piano in "School" is a fond memory.
Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little. I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
Great reaction. I saw Supertramp in the early 80s. One of the best light shows I ever saw. You have to react to their song School from the album, Crime of the Century! I am partial to the piano, and Roger Hodgson plays his heart out in this one, it's a great tune.
"It's Raining Again", "Don't leave me now", "Bloody well right", "Give a little Bit", "Dreamer", "School" , "Crazy" & "My kind of lady" these are the list of other's song you must react to it !!
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
That was the 70's for you, but the great compositions that took you on a journey, started in the mid to late 60's. So many different sounds were being born all the time. I'm so grateful I got to live through it and party my ass off on the dance floor. 💃💕🎼🎵🎶😎
Thanks for sharing! We Polynesians grew up on this music as most of us are first generation Americans and our parents came here during this era. My old man and his family moved to Hawaii from Tonga in '70 and this was all they knew along with reggae, mo town and disco. Me, my siblings and all my cousins grew up listening to this and it brings hella nostalgia. Especially this song. Always reminds me of Dad. He's my hero. Thanks again for sharing!!! Yes, all the Supertramp songs you've listened to are off the same album, Breakfast In America. It was a great album. I like you comparing their musicality to ELO and Chicago. I might also compare their musicality to Steely Dan and Toto as well.
"Give a little bit", "Take the long way home", "Bloody well right", "Dreamer", "Logical song", "Breakfast in America". So many great songs.
All of the above, and more!!! ⬆️

Ahh....i am born 1970...so...Jenis Joblin was way before my time...But in the 80's there were a lot of crap that were popular...
Thankfully i dont remember to much...BUT i know that we were very selective...when we recorded our own tapes
And you needed to be in the sceen to learn what bands exsisted...there were lots of niches..
The big grin that breaks out on her face at the beginning of the guitar outro is the best. Just can't help it huh?
I’ve been into Supertramp since 1974... If they are not my favorite band, they are in the top 2... their music catalog is like blood for the heart !! Can Never get enough... will never get old !!
I love that yall are so open and cool about hearing this badazz music. Thank you! ❤🎉❤🎉
They are just out and out, pure talented musicians!
Check out the fantastic recent live performances featuring Hodgson and Helliwell.
not many bands that consistently give me goosebumps like supertramp. if i haven't heard them for a few weeks GOOSEBUMPS for sure.
At 2:44 when Jay stops the video, you can see smoke coming out of Amber's ears. Boy, if looks could kill.
I saw them in San Antonio on their Breakfast in America tour. Dancing bananas and gorillas highlighted the evening. Every bit as composed live as in the studio. Great band.
My favourite band back in the 70s still love their music so multi layered. I'm glad you guys are checking them out and enjoying them.
Very Underrated group , This is my Fav. from them
Me to!
Isn't it a charming, beautifully written song ?
They're one of a kind. A style of their own.

Supertramp's arrangements are unlike any other band. Like Rush they are just so unique musically that they created their own "sound."
I agree with everything you just said including "Give A Little Bit"being my favorite song as well!
Good stuff, I always preferred the Even in the Quietest Moments LP but all good tunes
@@j.j.8012 I actually remember one time when I went to church during a contemporary worship service, the band played "Give A Little Bit" to kick off the service, because the sermon later was on the topic of giving
Welcome aboard! Supertramp, put out some great music, back when I was in high school.
Hello Jay and Amber, you love Supertramp? Give School and Bloody Well Right a Listen. You have to listen to both bcuz School bleeds into Bloody Well Right. It's from the album. Crime of the Century. I'm sure you'll love the 2fer
I remember in the late 80's I was only 20 yrs old "Supertramp " breakfast in America" hearing SuperTramp playing on my buddy's car stereo playing in those days Brings back memories
Couldn't be more thrilled to here you are "obsessed" with Supertramp, you get an A++ for your music appreciation skills! Listen to "School" next If you want to take your next Supertramp journey
School School, School, School!!!!
I'm a die hard Supertramp Fan.... "there's some who will and some who won't and some you just can't tell.... there's some who do and some who don't... and some it's just as well".
The detail and precision is just sick.
Thank you for the reaction! ;-)

My favourite Supertramp song is School and I think J and Amber will love it!! 🙏❤
Saw them live years ago, in Vancouver, Canada and they sound just as incredible live as their recordings.
Child of vision, from the same album, is the best supertramp song imo, with School, from "Crime of the century" . Sure you love these
“Breakfast in America” was a quadruple platinum selling album in the USA alone ...selling over 4 million copies here . It had 4 Billboard top 100 hits too. Everyone had this album when I was in H.S.
Roger Hodgson was the singer and guitar player in the band btw so that was him on the ending solo.
The album is epic and sounds as good to me as the first time I heard in 1979 as a high school senior.
He also played the other keyboard.
@@jerrycote659 they did such a good job alternating singers to fit the song. Roger is awesome with the harmonies and i think this is Rick's best lead vocal..
A Supertramp Fan Here! been listening to them for years
My 13-y-o overheard this and said, "oh, it's Goodbye Toby!" 😁
Yeah, that's what I hear now too lol
that's all i hear ever since i've watched the office
FEEEEEEEL NOOOOOO PAAAAAAIIIINNN!!!! TOBY! TOBY! 🤣🤣🤣 ruclips.net/video/My-VUirw76w/видео.html
Supertramp is one of those groups that flew under my radar. I think I don’t know any of their songs until I hear one and I instantly recognize it.
You Rock!
My favorite SuperTramp song (Rudy) starts with an incredible line "Rudy's on a train to nowhere... halfway down the line"
Bloody Well Right is probably the best intro you're gonna hear from them.. Absolutely 1 of their best.
Yes having "School" as its Intro definitely created the best Intro ever. For me the 2 songs are intertwined forever, as they are on the album.
Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!
One of the greatest guitar outros ever put to record. This album, Breakfast In America, was their breakthrough album.
Crime of the Century from 1974 was their breakthrough album... Most Supertramp fans like Crime of the Century more than Breakfast in America...
Here is a link to Wiki, read about the reception of the album, or the whole article if you like:

@@corchem Exactly.
I love super tramp and all the music 🎵 they play thank you for playing this song
It’s if everybody was listening for me!
Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little.
I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
Said the devil is my savior, but i don't pay no heed. Love that lyric!
One of the most joyous guitar solos ever recorded
Great reaction. I saw Supertramp in the early 80s. One of the best light shows I ever saw. You have to react to their song School from the album, Crime of the Century! I am partial to the piano, and Roger Hodgson plays his heart out in this one, it's a great tune.
"It's Raining Again", "Don't leave me now", "Bloody well right", "Give a little Bit", "Dreamer", "School" , "Crazy" & "My kind of lady" these are the list of other's song you must react to it !!
Back from Christmas Vacation and saw this reaction, love Supertramp, what an unique band.
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
My favourite track from the album awesome tune,🎹🎶🎵🎸🎷🎹🎺🎻🎹🎶🎵🎸🎸🎹🎷 ,love your reactions ,does that to me,magic😊
The lead vocals are by Rick Davies. Logical song was Roger Hodgson. Again, EVERY SINGLE SONG ON “BREAKFAST IN AMERICA” IS FIRE!!!
All Supertramp is ridiculousally amazing..literally every single song on every single album!!!!!!!!!!
"Rudy" by them. You will ABSOLUTELY love that one!
That was the 70's for you, but the great compositions that took you on a journey, started in the mid to late 60's. So many different sounds were being born all the time. I'm so grateful I got to live through it and party my ass off on the dance floor. 💃💕🎼🎵🎶😎
I saw these guys live. Seemed like 10 guys on stage. And it sounded exactly like the album versions. Every little noise included.
Supertramp is SUPER MELODIC & Multi-layered
This is my favorite of theirs! Reminds me of my youth, right before MTV took off. Soooo good! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜💜💜
Another classic from the Breakfast In America album.Great musicality and arrangements. 😎😎😎😎😎👍👍
Your Tongan friend from Utah 🤙🏾💯
Chi capisce di musica e di Vera musica non può con ascoltare i supertramp👏❤️👍
Yes, all the Supertramp songs you've listened to are off the same album, Breakfast In America. It was a great album. I like you comparing their musicality to ELO and Chicago. I might also compare their musicality to Steely Dan and Toto as well.
Look at your girl and know that all our girl's reacted that way back in the day!
