I mean, Supertramp had several top 10 albums including a number one, and a handful of top 40 hits (prog rock bands don't usually have much singles success). ELO had five top 10 albums, seven top 10 singles and 20 top 40 singles. I don't think either were THAT underappreciated, compared to some bands that people have never heard of
I was usually disappointed with the radio play of "Goodbye Stranger" because the stations usually cut out the guitar solo which is surely one of the most delicious solos of all time.
I don't consider an album collection complete without 'Breakfast In America'... It is one of those pivotal pop records that defined an era. I also feel the same about ELO's 'Out Of The Blue'
The drummer for this band was my high school baseball coach, Bob Siebenberg, and he talked about their tours and the stuff they got to experience. Pretty wild 😂
I absolutely love that solo!! I agree, it is so perfectly thought out and played! Beautifully melodic parts that moved so smoothly over the chords! Just goes to show how guitar solos don't always have to be a zillion notes to be great.
The guitarist invents Primus, The Prodigy, and House music all once...right here...in this solo. Amazing. Madonna even uses this effect on Ray of Light...that's how good it is.
The guitar player is Roget Hodgson. He is the lead singer with the high falsetto voice you like. Roger Davies on keyboard is the lead on this song with the deeper gritty voice. There were five members of the band. Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, and guitars), Rick Davies (vocals and keyboards), Dougie Thomson (bassist), Bob Siebenberg (drummer) and John Helliwell (saxophonist)
Back in 1977, when I was a senior in high school, I was stood up by a girl (for a high school dance) and walked along the Lake Michigan shoreline dressed in a brand new suit, weeping my eyes out. Tired of feeling sorry for myself, i remembered that someone I knew lived nearby and had friends over for a small party. I decided to go there, despite my puffy eyes. For some reason the memory of stepping into that friend's house always stuck in my mind: She had Supertramp playing on her stereo, and the song was "Give a Little Bit." The combination of the music and being with good friends actually wiped the memory of being stood up out of my mind, and I managed to have a great time. 😀
I hope the girl that stood you up wound up with a scorpion in her bra and panties...or something similar. I graduated in '76, by the way. As I recall we were all "stud to the max".
Supertramp's greatest attribute is without doubt their exceptional talent in 'musical arrangement'. The entry and disappearance of different instruments throughout their pieces to instigate a particular dramatic effect is nothing short of genius. They are individually quite talented with their own instruments of choice, but it is the total conception of what they want to present which is magical and extremely entertaining for the listener. God bless you Supertramp..
Breakfast in America was the very first album I ever purchased on my musical journey, way back in 1979 as a 16 year old, and it remains a feast of incredible music and still remains in my album collection over 40 years later
I was 23 in 79 so I can appreciate your sentiment. Even in the quitest moments was my first. I was living in Germany at the time in the military and discovering all of these groups.
Most people don't notice it but if you look at this album cover in the mirror, you'll see that above the Twin Towers it says 911,this album came out in the 70's ✌
Amber is so right about the writing in Supertramp and the other bands she mentions. 70's prog and even prog-pop was cinematic and ambitious in terms of structure, story telling and range of texture and dynamics, to the benefit of the open-minded listener. It's so nice to see people still appreciate that.
There are five band members in Supertramp. I'm so happy you love them, Amber. They have been my favourite group for almost 50 years, with ELO close behind. Goodbye Stranger was a massive hit for them and is from the Breakfast in America album. As great as the entire LP is, in my opinion it may be only their third or fourth-best album - that's how amazing their albums were in the 1970s. As much as they are loved and admired by many they are still vastly underrated in the history of rock/pop music. It is a total travesty that they are still not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They have their own sound. The musicianship is top rate and the lyrics from Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson range from happy to very bleak and dark. They have a lot of social commentary in their words especially from their all-time classic album Crime of the Century, my favourite LP ever. They use saxophone, electric piano, clarinet and harmonica in such beautiful ways. Please react to a lot more Supertramp, and not just from Breakfast in America, their most successful album commercially. Every song on Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, Even in the Quietest Moments and Famous Last Words is either great or worth listening to at the very least.
@@G-BUD_Budlong I have the original records for ELO and Supertramp too. In the case of Supertramp, I spent more than double the going rate for an album back in the early to mid-1980s and bought the specially pressed, half-speed mastered discs called the Audiophile series. They were CD quality records before CDs came out or as the Compact Disc format was just becoming popular. They look and sound great still, 40 years later.
I just LOVE the way that Supertramp uses crescendo in their songs. They start out soft and slow and in this case, they snowball into one of my all-time favorite guitar solos at the end. If you can find a good recording of "Even in the Quietest Moments" (thanks, Roger...geez, Dude, let us here your genius), it is one of my favorite songs by anybody.
Couldn't be more thrilled to here you are "obsessed" with Supertramp, you get an A++ for your music appreciation skills! Listen to "School" next If you want to take your next Supertramp journey
"School" is my all-time favorite Supertramp song. The entire "Crime of the Century" album is a masterpiece. What a great band to be obsessed with. The 70's was a great time to grow up music-wise. Welcome to my (our) world!
Among my large album collection back in college I splurged for two master pressed LPs - Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Supertramp's "Crime of the Century". Cranking the amp to 10 for the harmonica, scream and piano in "School" is a fond memory.
Being the youngest sibling and cousin paid off by the time I discovered the music that “spoke” to me. :) I didn’t realise it at the time, but I had absorbed all the bands and musicians they all listened too when I was little. I still remember my sister listening to this album with the volume cranked. :)
“Breakfast in America” was a quadruple platinum selling album in the USA alone ...selling over 4 million copies here . It had 4 Billboard top 100 hits too. Everyone had this album when I was in H.S. Roger Hodgson was the singer and guitar player in the band btw so that was him on the ending solo.

Amber, I've aways thought them as a very "clean" and sophisticated sounding band. Saw them 4 times and I promise you they sounded fantastic EVERY TIME!

“Nervous Wreck" and “Lord is it Mine on the B side of this album are just phenomenal, icing on the cake of such a great album. Wore this LP out my freshman year of high school.
"Goodbye Stranger" and "Logical Song" were from the more commercial successful album "Breakfast in America" . Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
My sister had this album when I was a kid but it didn't appreciate it till later in life. Another band I know you will like is Boston, "More Than a Feeling" will blow your mind. Thanks guys for your channel.
Give a little bit, Dreamer... such fun songs. you can't go wrong with this group, its one band whos songs are ALL bangers! I wish I could go back and listen to Supertramp for the first time again... Crime of the Century was another album full of winners!
Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
Thanks for sharing! We Polynesians grew up on this music as most of us are first generation Americans and our parents came here during this era. My old man and his family moved to Hawaii from Tonga in '70 and this was all they knew along with reggae, mo town and disco. Me, my siblings and all my cousins grew up listening to this and it brings hella nostalgia. Especially this song. Always reminds me of Dad. He's my hero. Thanks again for sharing!!! Your Tongan friend from Utah 🤙🏾💯
That was the 70's for you, but the great compositions that took you on a journey, started in the mid to late 60's. So many different sounds were being born all the time. I'm so grateful I got to live through it and party my ass off on the dance floor. 💃💕🎼🎵🎶😎
The guitar player in this is Roger Hodgson.. He's the guy who sang "The Logical Song" And "Take The Long Way Home" and played keyboards in both of those. The singer in this one was Rick Davies who also plays keyboards. I think one of their iconic sounds that give away it's a Supertramp song is that old Wurlitzer electric piano that's featured in many of their songs along with the high harmonies.
This is my favorite video of your reactions so far (and I watch them all). Amber looked like she was having a genuine blast with this song and Jay was really groovin with it. One of my favorite songs with two of my favorite RUclipsrs.
I can't thank you enough for introducing Supertramp to a new generation. My brother had the album Crime of the Century. It has been my favorite album of all time! I bought the album, cassette, CD and yes, it is still at the top of my playlist. It warms my heart that you like them. I have often wondered if anyone else still appreciates them. Almost 50 yrs later, I can listen to them everyday. Thank you so much!! You Rock!
My mom and i had such a love/hate, with extra hate relationship. She was a very mentally ill woman, as I was growing up. For as long as I could remember, my mother was mentally ill and extremely abusive. Moving on, as I got to be an adult, I would go over to her apartment on Sundays and we would always listen to music on RUclips. And she would always request Goodbye Stranger. This song actually represents my mother. Because I had no idea of anything about her life when she was younger, she refused to talk about it. And her and I never had any in-depth conversations about anything about life, in general. Her and I were basically Strangers to one another. And I will let you know that the last time I listened to this song, was right around January of 2016...until today. I have not been able to bring myself to listen to this song, until I was listening to your reaction videos and this one just started playing without my knowledge. But thank you for bringing me back to it. RIP Doris Ann 11/08/1951 to 01/07/2017❤
My dad used to play his classic rock albums on Sunday morning when I was a kid. I’m 20 now but I’ve grown to really love classic rock and it’s my second after hip hop. I can listen to this album all day. From dire straits, queen and especially supertramp, I wish I could go back and see those concerts live. Supertramp is definitely my favourite classic rock band. The voices of the lead singer just blend so well and they go from fast to slow and just so on point. “If everybody was listening” by supertramp is definitely my favourite song of theirs. Anyways im hitting that sub button!
Their Paris live album was awesome. The videos of the concert were found in 2006 and the entire concert was remastered as Supertramp Live in Paris '79.
I am a first time subscriber, and I am so blessed to watch your reaction. It is beyond amazement watching your reaction, however just imagine being able to grow up with this music in real time. I am 54, and this was a staple in my collection of great artists, along with Elton John, Rush, AC DC, Boston, Journey, and even the Carpenters. As the 80's fast approached I leaned more to my heavy metal, yet kept my portfolio of great artists very diverse. My first concert was 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. OZZY OSBOURNE Bark at the Moon Tour with opening act RATT. Just a little hint at the diversity of my music tastes are . Michael Jackson, The FiXX, Platinum Blonde, Thompson Twins, Joe Jackson, Jackson Browne, Vixen, Iron Maiden, RUN DC, Aero Smith, Metallica, Mega Death, STYX , ELO, and I can go on forever. God bless, and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Your energy is infectious. Merry Christmas, as well as GREAT HEALTH & PROSPERITY in 2022

"Give a little bit", "Take the long way home", "Bloody well right", "Dreamer", "Logical song", "Breakfast in America". So many great songs.

Great to see your reactions to this well-loved band, keep doing it you two!
we love Supertramp with you ❤ keep 'm comming 👊
Supertramp is one of those groups that flew under my radar. I think I don’t know any of their songs until I hear one and I instantly recognize it.
I’ve been into Supertramp since 1974... If they are not my favorite band, they are in the top 2... their music catalog is like blood for the heart !! Can Never get enough... will never get old !!
Child of vision, from the same album, is the best supertramp song imo, with School, from "Crime of the century" . Sure you love these
“Nervous Wreck" and “Lord is it Mine on the B side of this album are just phenomenal, icing on the cake of such a great album. Wore this LP out my freshman year of high school.
Cannonball!!! Fantastic tune and an incredible song to test your speakers, just like this one!! 😁✌
"Goodbye Stranger" and "Logical Song" were from the more commercial successful album "Breakfast in America" . Some of their earlier songs in their earlier career like "School", "Crime of the Century" and "Bloody Well Right" will delight you with the songwriting and textures.
Hammond Organ with Leslie Speakers is one of the instruments that they use as filler sound. Super Tramp is a 4 and/5 piece band.
This is my Favorite Super Tramp Song. The chorus perfectly ties it all together.
My favorite Supertramp song and my all-time favorite road song.
And a Big Hit in Europe too, „It’s Raining again“. Very Melancholy!
"Rudy" by them. You will ABSOLUTELY love that one!
Supertramp is SUPER MELODIC & Multi-layered
Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Dreamer" "Give A Little Bit", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
Supertramp's arrangements are unlike any other band. Like Rush they are just so unique musically that they created their own "sound."
Supertramp had two great singers and song writers. For sure we got to grow up with certain bands that had their own unique sound that you would recognize right away. God Bless from David in Detroit.
what a band
Saw them live years ago, in Vancouver, Canada and they sound just as incredible live as their recordings.
I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but "Child of Vision " is my favorite song by them
The Meaning, Babaji, Lady, soapbox opera, child of vision, dreamer. They their most overlooked not known outstanding masterpieces.
They are just out and out, pure talented musicians!
I think one of their iconic sounds that give away it's a Supertramp song is that old Wurlitzer electric piano that's featured in many of their songs along with the high harmonies.
that's roger playing the guitar. welcome yo the 70's
This is my favorite video of your reactions so far (and I watch them all). Amber looked like she was having a genuine blast with this song and Jay was really groovin with it. One of my favorite songs with two of my favorite RUclipsrs.
Look at your girl and know that all our girl's reacted that way back in the day!
You Rock!
I love that yall are so open and cool about hearing this badazz music. Thank you! ❤🎉❤🎉
I saw these guys live. Seemed like 10 guys on stage. And it sounded exactly like the album versions. Every little noise included.
Isn't it a charming, beautifully written song ?
They're one of a kind. A style of their own.
This is my favorite of theirs! Reminds me of my youth, right before MTV took off. Soooo good! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜💜💜
You two analyze songs amazing, don't need my help!😂.
Their Paris live album was awesome. The videos of the concert were found in 2006 and the entire concert was remastered as Supertramp Live in Paris '79.
Fool's Overture was used as a theme song for many TV shows and movies
Do you know examples in which TV shows / movies it was used? I really like that song :D
Merry Christmas, as well as GREAT HEALTH & PROSPERITY in 2022
yes, all of these songs is from their 1979 album "Breakfast in America". There is one more hit from that album, that the album title "Breakfast in America".
I saw this live..., followed by take the long way home. On their last tour... it was their encore song... so memorable..
Amber, keep smiling - you bring us joy with your great smile.
*_'And I will go on shining, Shining like brand new_*
*_I'll never look behind me, My troubles will be few'_*
"It's Raining Again" is another great Supertramp song. Also a great video.
My 13-y-o overheard this and said, "oh, it's Goodbye Toby!" 😁
Yeah, that's what I hear now too lol

Back from Christmas Vacation and saw this reaction, love Supertramp, what an unique band.
You gotta check out their ABSOLUTELY BEST ALBUM
"Crime of the Century"
Every song is fire!!!!!!!!!!
Multiple exclamation marks…
That, and "Crisis, What Crysis?".
Yes brother!!!
what he said
@@brettpeacock9116 I agree. A hidden little gem. Saw Supertramp in 1976 in L.A. One of the few bands that could replicate their studio sound live.
Been a Supertramp fan from day one. Saw them in concert on this "Breakfast In America" tour. Fantastic guitar, vocals, lyrics. Brilliant band.
