    For me, one of the best intros ever with those keys and that wah wah. Definitely a 'good progressive' track about the British class system in the seventies. Bangin sax solo, as well. You guys may want to check out School from the same Crime of the Century LP, which is also a prime example of some of the most tasteful progressive you'll ever hear. ✌

    • @RyTrapp0
      @RyTrapp0 2 года назад +1

      Certainly an era that peaked in musicianship - the intro here, Boston's 'Foreplay', amazing stuff!
      Sure wish we could have some of that back in the mainstream again. The musicans are there, but the labels aren't. The last 'new' band I heard that truly made an impression with their song writing & musicianship was Hurt, from around the 2010s, known for their single 'Rapture'(albeit, you realize that the radio edit is a total butcher when you hear the album cut; their first major album 'Vol 1' is incredible BTW). They were around for a decent amount of time, but, while they were on a major label, this was after the big money dried up and they never got a strong push.
      At least the talent is out there independently today though, we do have that going for us!

    This is how you do an intro...Supertramp often mixes jazz and prog, this is a prime example(some call Supertramp "prog pop")

    Hugely underrated band. Great songs, brilliant arrangements. The Crime of the Century album really needs to be hit in one listen though. The song's basically about "it's who you know, not what you know", and flows on from the song "School", which is about how school doesn't really prepare you for life and just leaves a lot of people more confused. Great prog/pop/jazz/rock.

    I know when they came out it was hard to call them prog, it was hard to put your finger on their sound. But they were hugely popular amongst prog fans and straight-ahead rock fans alike. I think the definition of prog would definitely include Supertramp.

    • @gchampi2
      @gchampi2 2 года назад

      They filled the gap between Pop & Prog. I've seen them described as Art-Pop & Prog-Pop. They always were a difficult band to categorize, as they had the songwriting skills of pop masters, while also having the musicianship of prog monsters, and they weren't afraid to display both skillsets in the same song...

      Steady on, old chap! "Bloody" is *nowhere near* as strong as the F-word; certainly not now, and even when this record came out, although it would have been considered somewhat offensive back then. Nowadays it's no stronger than "damn".

    • @TheoZoffrok
      @TheoZoffrok 2 года назад +4

      @@stevenwalker5343 oh I'm not disputing that it *used* to be considered offensive - it's just that even when it *was* offensive, it was never *as* offensive as the f-word. A good illustration of this is in the play Pygmalion, which opened in London in 1914. The famous line "not bloody likely!" was indeed very controversial at the time - but it would have been simply unthinkable for it to have been "not fucking likely". The play would have been closed down and all involved in the production would have had their collars felt by the law...

    This album was the soundtrack of my junior high and senior high years (for all the young 'uns out there, junior high=middle school 🤣). So good played loud and with a little herbal enhancement. 45 years later, I still love it. 😎

    Pure turntable bliss ... of their heavier songs IMO, with that plodding, crunchy guitar lick. Kind slow head-bang.

    Rock is so wide, eclectic, varied and inclusive, there really is no need to pigeonhole this song into a label. It's just a solid, well-written and produced rock song. That's all.

    Seriously underrated band! I went to their last concert... drove from Boston to Philly to see it...and it was amazing!... Roger Hudson is a genius! I consider him on the same level as Tom Scholz from Boston.
    Give A Little Bit next!!
    ... great content guys!

    I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 4 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.

    Oh man I remember when this song came out, I was around 13 or 14 and we used to hang out at The Hangout a sleazy little teen pit with Foosball, Bumper Pool, Pinball, Air Hockey and everybody was buying and selling drugs. I'd stop in after my paper route on Friday evenings and try to sell off what weed was left over from my paper route inventory
    Yeah I was selling pot to my paper route customers at the ripe old experienced age of 13 or 14! 🤣 I'd buy a 1/2 pound on my first stop, break in up into nickels dimes and lids and ounces and sell it while I was collecting my newspaper money for the week. I loved Fridays! I always had a pocketful of cash and dope! Enough to buy a $6.50 ticket to Queen , Kansas and Mahogany Rush concert , Aerosmith or James Gang , ELO or whoever was in town that weekend. What an awesome time to be a kid!
