When I was expecting my twins, I went to two of their concerts, they love Supertramp, they’re 42 now, they hear everything before they’re born!! Watching them, when certain music plays, is so interesting
Yes, like you my son is now 45 and although I never had the chance to see them in Concert, I did see Frampton twice, and ACDC with Bon Scott, and many, many others...(2) groups that I missed and would have loved to see were, Boston & Journey!! 🎶🎶🎶🎶
I saw Supertramp live for the second time in 1977. My friend borrowed his mom's credit card a few weeks earlier to buy the tickets by phone. When the tickets arrived, we were shocked!! We ended up in the SECOND ROW CENTER, just to the right of Rick Davies!! Over 45 years later, still my favorite concert!!
An excellent merger of hippie-era "let's make the world a better place" lyrics and layered 1970s jazz-influenced music that wouldn't be out of place on a Steely Dan tune. Classic. No wonder Lex remembers it so well.
Supertramp, a massive band of the 70's and still on my playlist today. I agree with everybody who suggests that you should react to more Supertramp. There are far too many great songs from which to choose, so I'm just going to point you towards the albums "Crisis, What Crisis" and "Crime of the Century." Even our kids were into these songs and would sing along! Especially the family favourite "Dreamer." You two are a joy. Keep on keeping on. 🙂🙏🙂
"Give a Little Bit" was in the movie Superman. I love the band. It's the band of my youth. My personal favorite is, "Sister Moonshine", but check out "School" and "Dreamer".
Me too. I grew up with Supertramp as my favourite group. The earlier periods were the best. In later years not all songs on a LP were that good as before, but still there were some pearls to find.
It bugs me that they cut the song out of Superman (along with The Platters and Bill Haley) for the non-theatrical versions of the film. It was presumably cheaper to replace it with generic music and static.
Nice reaction guys; love me some Supertramp. Funny how music can take you somewhere, in a nostalgic sense, even though you can't remember being in that place before. That feeling of taking you home. Like Roger states in the song... "don't you need to feel at home?". I think we all long for that safe spot and if we can be transported there for only a few minutes, by the power of music, then magic is still alive. ✌️
This song makes me emotional. Teary eyed. Brilliant song from a talented brilliant band. Thanks for this! Tears of joy! " see the man with the lonely eyes, oh take his hand you'll be surprised" - that line gets me every time.
Love watching your reaction to the songs I grew up with. Not just Supertramp but Manfred Manns Earth Band, Fleetwood Mac and so many more. Seen them all in concert, alas will never do so again so RUclips is such a blessing Thanks for the entertainment
Per Songfacts Supertramp singer/gutiarist Roger Hodgson wrote this song when he was a teenager, but didn't record it until much later. It was about five years between when he wrote the song and when he brought it to the band. When we spoke with Hodgson in 2012, he explained: "I think it's a great song. I didn't realize it was when I first wrote it. It actually took me six years before I even brought it to the band. But I wrote it I think around 1970. That time, the late '60s, early '70s, was a very idealistic time, one of hope, a lot of peace and love and the dream of the '60s was still very alive and maturing, if you like. The Beatles had put out 'All You Need Is Love' a year prior to that. I believed in love - it was always for love - and just felt that was the most important thing in life. That song has really taken on a life of its own, and I think it's even more relevant today than when I wrote it. Because we really are needing to value love in a much deeper way, and also we're needing to care. The song is basically saying: just show you care. You know, reach out and show you care. So in concert it's the perfect show closer, because what I try to do in my show over two hours is unify the audience and unify all of us. So that at the end, when everyone stands up for 'Give A Little Bit,' they're open and ready to open their hearts and sing at the top of their lungs and go away with a smile on their face. And that song really does, it has a very pure energy. The moment I start, people just start smiling. It's amazing."
Such a great song; it's been one of my favorites since 1981. BTW: Lex had the lyrics mostly right, "There's so much that we need to share, So send a smile and show you care".
I saw the 'Tramps in 1977 when I was a teenager in high school; all of us were in our prime! LOL. Good music and I am glad you discovered this band. Enjoy. Smile.
Thanks for reacting to my favourite Supertramp song. You may have heard a cover from the 2000' s from the Goo Goo Dolls. Instead of the saxophone solo they had a guitar solo.
Released 27 May 1977 Give a Little Bit" is the opening song on Supertramp's 1977 album Even in the Quietest Moments... The song was released as a single that same year and became an international hit for the band, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. It was a chart hit in the band's native UK, reaching number 29 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was re-released in 1992 to raise funds for the ITV Telethon Charity event, but failed to chart. Its writing credits are given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, although it is a Hodgson composition.[4] Hodgson and Davies shared writing credits from 1974 until 1983, when Hodgson left Supertramp. "Give a Little Bit" was first written by Hodgson when he was 19 or 20 years old before it was introduced to the band for recording five to six years later. Hodgson stated that the song was inspired by the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love", released during the love and peace movement of the 1960s. Drummer Bob Siebenberg recounted that "Roger had been working at Malibu for quite a while on this tune. I'd hear the song in hotel rooms and places like that. He had the song on a little tape when I first joined the band so I was quite familiar with the tune. We tried out various drum things and it seemed right to ride it along on the snare drum giving it something almost like a train beat. So it's all on the snare and bass drum, with no tom-tom fills or anything.
This song was playing on the car radio when Lois Lane's car was being swallowed up by an earthquake. She died and Superman Christopher Reeves turned time back to save her. I saw the movie on TV and they took the song out for some reason.
You guys should react to more Supertramp… "Bloody Well Right", "Dreamer", "Hide In Your Shell", "From Now On", "Rudy", "School", "Fool's Overture", "Ain't Nobody but Me", "Sister Moonshine", "Two of Us", "Child of Vision", "Take the Long Way Home" 🎸🤘
I love the Eddy t-shirt. That's probably one of the most iconic shirts out there for rockers. I would say that and maybe GnR and Pink Floyd's shirts. Probably for old school, the Rolling Stone tongue shirt.
I remember listening to this song on the radio as a young man. Even though we were poor, school lunch program and all of it....my pops and mom still loved to for drive to nice far off forest parks for us kids to play and explore. Loved it. Thanks for the bring back the memories :)
Love you guys. Brad so focused on the lyrics and Lex just letting it flow. Saw them at the garden MSG in the late 70's. Amazing. Elton John & The Coneheads came out and sang back up on Good Bye Stranger. Got a peck on the cheek after the show from Jari Shaktar, a waitress I worked with but never saw again.
Love this song. You're right - Supertramp uses the saxophone very well, often as a texture. John Helliwell was their saxophone and clarinet player - his skills added a lot tot he Supertramp sound. "Dreamer" or "Lady" should be your next Supertramp hit :)
When Roger Hodgson said goodbye (he was going to go solo) live at a concert in Germany, he played this song as a gift to the audience and thanks to the band.
All those nights jamming at parties, houseboat trips, campfires with multiple acoustic guitars, sometimes me on bass. We always played this one. Had to do the solo on harmonica. Imagine a bass player with harmonica holder around his neck. Looked stupid, but gotta do it.
This is from one the album ''Even In The Quitest Moments'' which is good from start to finish, all A side songs. There was a LOT of albums like that in those days, Bowie had several in a row
Lex you did get it right, 'there's so much that we need to share' is at the beginning at .55 in the video! As soon as you said it I thought he's already sung that bit! Your baby hears the music in the womb, water is a better conductor than air...I listened to Enya a lot when I was pregnant with my daughter and when she was born sometimes the only thing that would settle her was Enya and it was also the first music she sang and danced to at 6 months old while holding onto the cupboard.
In 2004 the Goo Goo Dolls did a cover of this song, Lex may have heard that and that's why she doesn't remember it the same way, their cover was a bit different than the original.
What a wonderful happy song, you guys are great. You are gonna be a great Mom,Lex..I have faith in you Brad, you will be a good Dad, my best to the 3 of you.

Lex is such a joy to watch...her smile when she starts getting into the music and likes the melody... priceless 😊
right???
@@bakerman10 It's why I keep coming back.

LOVE its raining again
