If your calorie intake exceed your requirement then whether you take fat, protein, carbs in excess in any form will be detrimental, if you maintain balance of macronutrient within your calorie range even fruit will be used for energy production instead converting in fat or uric acid

But no doctor or nutrition experts take into consideration a diabetic either on insulin or on other diabetes medicines. A confirmed diabetic will definitely be on some medicines to control sugar absorption regularly. So, taking fruits along with his/her regular diet and medicines may have different effects.
