In this video I show you how the Subaru Apple Carplay and Subaru Android Auto work. The Subaru Apple CarPlay and Subaru Android Auto are very easy to us. This video shows an example of the Subaru Outback Carplay but the set up is the same in the Subaru Forester Carplay. With Subaru Apple Carplay and Subaru Android Auto, you can use navigation apps on the display like Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze navigation. You can also access and use your Spotify, Pandora, and other music apps directly through the apple carplay touch screen display. The phone app and text message app in subaru apple carplay and subaru android auto is great for hands free calling and texting.

My salesperson gave me the basics I needed to not wreck the Crosstrek Limited I got in December of 2021, thank goodness for that and the manual and your videos! Alex ... Great videos. We just bought a hardly used 2019 Autumn green metallic outback with the beautiful java brown interior. By getting the 2019 we have a CD player and all the goodies of a newer Outback. 16,000 miles on the odometer, not quite broken in 😂. We are subscribed and loving every one of your videos. Our other car is a 2015 red Forester with 130,000 miles, still looks like new. We keep both cars in peak condition doing our own washing, waxing, detailing, and minor maintenance such as oil and filter changes at home. Wagner Subaru in Fairborn, Ohio has done sparkplugs, recalls, wheel bearing, and front suspension work for the Forester. Great dealership and service. Great vehicles. Wonderful videos to help us get the most out of them. 😄😄😄

Hi Alex, Thank you for responding to me. Much appreciated! Was there a change in 2022 from 2021? When I plug in my iPhone 13, I get No Enable and Accept screen. Maybe I should plug in the cable each time, and then connect my iPhone. My iPhone says that I need to unlock the phone to use the apps--which I do. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I just get Bluetooth, and need to either restart car or unplug the iPhone. You also didn't mention any interface with the car's Radio--toggling back and forth between screens--and I have SiriusXM. Does that affect Apple Car Play? And, I haven't been successful in using some apps, like Audible, Libby, and Amazon music. That may be a function of something that I haven't identified yet, i.e., user error. I do not get the GOOGLE MAPS to function in the way it's shown in your demonstration--I'll try again. THE GOOGLE MAPS app was different with my iPhone 11. There's no search feature on screen. I use WAZE as I can search on my phone. Also, your display is somewhat different for texting and phone calls--no touch options in the upper right. I've replaced the cable, and could ask a dealership about a factory reset--though losing Apple Car Play also happened on my 2019 CrossTrek. Thank you for your time. I'm sure that you want everyone to have a good experience using Apple Car Play--a feature that I can't live without--when it works. Bluetooth will receive phone calls, but nothing else. Also, when I plug in the iPhone, Pandora asks about allowing it to work with Starlink. Is that normal? I don't have Spotify.

Alex, I just subscribed and enjoying your detailed content. Yesterday I ordered a new 2024 Outback Wilderness with full navigation screen, and am a bit overwhelmed with all the technology since I currently drive a ten year old Prius! I too have an iPhone. On my phone I have my music saved on RUclips in ‘watch later’ or ‘favorites’. Do you know if AppleCar Play has the capability to play RUclips music or even videos when paired up onto the info screen? Also, I plan to do some car camping and take my wilderness down forest service roads in which I have iPhone apps such as The Dyrt, AllTrails, Gia GPS… not sure if you’re familiar with these apps and if they can be synced with AppleCar Play. If these apps can’t be synced with Apple Car Play, could you simply use a normal Bluetooth connection for car speakers? Sorry for all the questions but if anyone knows the answers, I bet you do! Thanks! Brian

My Apple CarPlay will show my apps but like on the main screen it will only show maps, today’s calendar events and music on my phone. Does the Apple CarPlay display the whole screen in the 2020 models? I thought I’ve seen a video where the Apple CarPlay is only as big as the back up camera.

Hi Alex. I have a 2018 outback and even when connected with a USB, CarPlay sometimes shows up and sometimes doesn’t out just disconnects in the middle of the drive. I have gone through and made sure restrictions are off and have forgotten my car and set up again. Any advice???

I can’t seem to get the correct cable to plug in to the Subaru end. Is it just the standard cable that I use to charge my IPhone? I’ve got an iPhone 13.

I can’t seem to get my cable to connect to the Subaru end. I’ve got an iPhone 13, use the standard charging cable correct? There are two usb connections, neither one works!

This is great. TomTom was frustrating because it couldn't recognize a lot of addresses and even GPS coordinates. Too bad we can't connect to out IPhones via Bluetooth.

Couple of questions on no CarPlay related topic.
My Outback 2021 makes three beeps warning when approaching some intersections with no other indication or message.
My guess it’s a warning about speed cameras but I am not sure. Can you please confirm or deny this?
The other question is a fundamental:) hence no front approach sensors installed (which is so stupid) I unable to find a way to park close to the obstacle which ever it may be. Camera can be used but this is not user friendly. All my other cars works similar to revers function (camera and approach alert) and It’s done automagically. My wife after first week of driving this vehicle managed to scratch front bumper.
    Thanks

Indeed! The lack of front sensors in my ‘24 Ascent Touring really shocked me! I came from a MUCH less expensive ‘20 Ford Escape that DID have that. WHY OH WHY, SUBARU???

I recently bought a 2018 Outback Limited and use Android Auto. It constantly disconnects. I've Googled it and it seems to be a known issue. Do you know if there is a fix for that?

  • @keelay1977

Hi Alex! Thank you for all the great info you provide in your videos! I was wondering if you can have two phones connected to the Outback at once? For instance, connect your personal phone via USB for CarPlay to use Waze and Spotify but then have your work phone connected at the same time via Bluetooth to be able to answer calls.
    Thanks!

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  Год назад +1

Hey Kyle! You can only connect one phone at a time. You can also only use one source at a time. For example, you can't use carplay and bluetooth at the same time.

Is it possible on a 2020 Legacy premium model to, only using one iphone, to have car play set up so I can listen to my phone for calls/texts, AND use a map app from my phone AND have my iphone be the music player (I'd rather not pay for extra data for Spotify/Pandora etc.) I found I can't use a separate source for a USB music player AND use car play at the same time. Is there a way to do all that? Or to use a Garmin GPS and have it play on the infotainment screen? TIA

I have a 2024 forester premium. Picked it up end of December. I have an android phone. Any tips on how to switch between maps and Amazon music in the display. My maps is the only thing i can use on the screen at one time. So much for hands free 😢

Hi Alex, what’s up man? Why every time I connect my phone to car play, Waze always turns on even though I’m not using it and when I take a screenshot, it takes two pictures, one of my iPhone screen and the other one of my CarPlay screen, thanks man.

Hi Alex, I have a question. Winter is coming up soon, and I have a 2020 Subaru Legacy Limited. When I use the key fob to start my Legacy nothing else goes on. When I use the auto start on my Jeep the front and rear defroster will go and so will the heated driver's side seat, in winter or cold temperatures. Does Subaru have that type of feature? Can I start the car and have the front and rear defroster turn on? Thanks.

Enjoyed the video, thank you. Here's one quirk in my 2021 Forester that I hate: whenever I unplug my phone, the radio is comes. The only way to get rid of the radio is to turn the volume all the way down. (and then you have to remember it's turned all the way down the next time you plug in your phone.) VERY frustrating. I want to turn the radio off! I've asked a few people at my dealership about this, and they just shrug their shoulders. Anyone else bothered by this? Thank you!

You just opened a whole new world for me! I have a 2021 outback premium, I have an iPhone 11 with a usb-c fast charger (tiny ends) how do I plug this into the larger USB ports in the Subaru? I appreciate any info you had on this.

    • @alexpmo

Is there such a thing as a USB-A to USB-C adapter that you could plug into the USB port in the car so that you could use your existing charger?
