Another reason that many of us overlooked is the phone charging port that gets clogged with dust bunnies, where it will left unnoticed until you have issue with charging/carplay. Simply use a toothpick and gently scrape the inner end of the charging port and see if there are enough dust bunnies that could have hindered the charging cord to fully insert and detectible by carplay. If the phone is clean, then also try with different cable and see if it is due to the charging cable being a knock-off or getting worn.

Here is what worked for me and may help you. I have a 2021 Chevy Suburban.
OnStar could not help and I spent hours deleting and adding iPhone both via USB and Bluetooth only with no luck. OnStar said to turn off truck and then open and close driver door and wait 3 minutes to reset the vehicle. I had tried that before I called OnStar.
Here is the fix which is a true reset. Simply open the hood of your vehicle and locate the negative lead to the battery. Take an appropriate wrench or socket to loosen the nut and remove the negative lead(s) from the battery. Wait 30 seconds then put back and secure the nut. You will hear some relays click etc. which is a great thing.
Now close your hood, start your truck and add your device. It should work again. This should work with any newer vehicle. You’re welcome

This helped, but I also had to go to Walmart to get a USB data cord. I have an iPhone, and the lightning cord that came with my phone was a charging cord.
I purchased a lightning to USB cable from Walmart, plugged it into the USB port underneath the monitor, and CarPlay worked immediately.

Thanks! This helped resolve my issue: a setting you indicated was not turned on. Another issue I still had was that Apple Maps wasn’t displaying correctly. A separate posting on another video suggested turning off VPN. That did the trick.

Maybe this was already asked here, but didn’t see it in the many comments. I recently purchased a 2022 Toyota Highlander- got in it and clicked the button “do not show again” when setting up CarPlay. Your video said I have to go into the car settings, but I’m not seeing where I would find it there. Any help you can give would be much appreciated as I am not very tach savvy (obviously).

I appreciate your video. I have done each of those and it still isn’t working. I think it might be a problem within the car. Is there a way to check that?

I easily follow all that you're pointing out except for one thing: Each item you cover shows up right where you say it will EXCEPT my CAR is never listed anywhere in my phone. I am aware that there is a SIM card somewhere in the phone that is LOCKED. Other people tell me they too have locked sim cards but they don't present any problem for the CarPlay to pair with the cellphone. What would happen if I had the locked sim card removed? I'll have to ask around.

Not sure what is my issue but my iPhone 13 shows that I'm connected to my car (wireless) but the car only shows the iPhone as an option to connect, it doesnt connect... I've tried all things that you suggested: Face ID permits, restablishing connections, restarting my cars configuration, etc.
    What can I do?
    iPhone: 13 Pro Max
    Car: Mazda 2 2024
