In my 2023 Jeep the screen goes black when connected to car play. A little annoying but can still listen to my music. The map won’t pop up either. I’m guessing whenever the vehicle gets update this issue should be fixed.

It’s so stupid that still they don’t allow you to say “reply” when you have the auto announce on. I really thought they would have enabled that. The whole purpose of having auto announce is to keep you from being distracted. So while it announces the message to you, you still need to be distracted to reply to the person.
Since updating, my 15 pro max always pauses the audio whenever the screen turns on and off. No idea what the heck is happening and it’s incredibly annoying.

CarPlay is on your phone. If you’ve ever used a laptop with an additional monitor, it works like that. The phone is running CarPlay, but the car’s screen is just displaying what the phone is sending. The wireless CarPlay adapter is basically pretending to be a car radio, so your phone can send the CarPlay info wirelessly. Then, the wireless adapter just acts as a relay, forwarding the signal to the car’s radio via the physical connection. There’s not really a “CarPlay OS”, it’s just a different mode of the iOS that’s on your phone.

He didn’t really differentiate the two. iOS 18.0 has the old Siri still. iOS 18.1 beta shows the new Siri which only works with the M1 iPad Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer. By the way, Apple has to approve you to get access to Apple Intelligence once you download the 18.1 beta. I’m not sure if it’s still in developer or if it’s a public beta now, I have it as a developer currently on my M1 iPad Pro. Not very stable, I wouldn’t risk it on a main device.

He literally says it’s about the same, only difference would be the animation. You get a Siri animation with older phones and just edge to edge lighting with 15 Pro and newer. Just a change in aesthetics.
My absolute biggest complaint with apple car play is the constant hyjacking of the audio source. Example: I'm driving and listening to the radio but my wife is the passenger and her iPhone is the one connected to car play. She's surfing the web on her phone and some websites have hidden audio or ads that run (even silently) and the radio turns off and switches to her iPhone. This is so annoying and I have not been able to figure out how to stop this hyjacking audio sources. This is an APPLE problem and should have been addressed years ago. Come on Apple, due better. Have an option to prevent this.

I’ve just spent a frustrating call, 1hr 10mins, talking an Apple expert. I asked if there was a way of finding out when it would be, and he sent me 3 documents. One says. “The Phone app helps users stay organised with the ability to record and transcribe live calls, making it easier to recall important details later. Call participants are notified before a recording begins, and transcripts are conveniently saved to the Notes app, allowing users to quickly search and review what was discussed.” The others don’t even mention call recording. Apple like to stand on the roof top and expound how wonderful their products are, but they fall down badly, when it comes to informed customer service. No one ever mentions Apple intelligence isn’t released until 18.1 so unless you have 18.1 beta, AI is not a current feature

The CarPlay user interface is generated by the phone. The CarPlay screen in the car is basically just showing a movie that the phone is sending it.
CarPlay is on your phone. If you’ve ever used a laptop with an additional monitor, it works like that. The phone is running CarPlay, but the car’s screen is just displaying what the phone is sending.
