Hello! I just found this video, such a kind review! I’m the creator of Sidecar, happy to answer any questions! Regarding the subscription price, I’ve heard the feedback and already have a new release out for review today that introduces a cheaper plan for OBD + CarPlay widgets specifically. I know there’s a desire for a one time purchase too, and I’m exploring how to make that work as well :) Sidecar also works without a subscription for quick OBD snapshots if you’re looking for a free option as well. Still lots of new features coming and excited to keep building this out 😁
@@clutchengineering hey great app! I’ve been using it for a month in a half now and just wanted to say love it!!!!! But I do have a question, I haven’t been able to get the range and tire pressure widgets to work, and the latest update v1.21.0 now says obd support, does it mean that the current obd scanner that I am using doesn’t support that feature?
@clutchengineering I have a similar question as @UntrustedTech. I have the Vgate vLinker MC+ OBD2 and I too see that Range and Tire pressure aren't showing up. Is that an issue with the ODB2 or the app? Also I have a Ford F-150 Lightning. Could you add an app icon and a map icon for the Ford F-150 Lightning?
@@ImadethisupI’m not sure you understand the question. Apps collect driving data and sell it to companies like LexisNexis to pad their margins. LexisNexis then sells the info to insurance companies, which use the info to raise premiums on specific drivers.
All data stays on your phone with the exception of iCloud sync, which is synced only to your private iCloud storage and only if you turn iCloud sync on.
I have literally been asking Apple and their feedback suggestions to implement OBD two scanners like Bluetooth into CarPlay that way, not only can you have more information, but you can potentially configure certain things from CarPlay in the future It seems like they’ve taken my suggestion to her because I did get a response from them telling me that they are currently working on that blah blah blah unfortunately, I don’t have the ability to test this as often as I wish
@@rodneynali I don’t have an EV and only recently loaded Sidecar, but a quick scan of the app indicates that they have prioritized features dedicated to EVs.
@@jeffreybrunken556 the OBD scanner and CarPlay widgets are designed to work for any car. Many cars do require onboarding, but petrol/hybrid vehicles often work better than EVs out of the box due to how long their standards have been around :)

Interesting but $80 a year is too steep
Way too steep
A cheaper option for OBD + CarPlay specifically should be launching today, pending App Store review :)
If you only want OBD + CarPlay, there's now a reduced price option for only $50/year (~$4.00/month) called the ScanPlan :)
$80/year! But wait, there is a free version that works for 30 straight seconds. Yes, you read that right.
Question, does this collect vehicle data and share it with 3rd parties that sell it to our insurance companies?
Don’t risk it if you’re scared?
No it does not have nothing to do with your insurance company
@@Imadethisup and your proof of that is what?

I don’t mind subscriptions but $80/year is a lot. It better be perfect.
And it definitely isn't
@@LenTexDIYoh no what bugs are you running in to? We’re still onboarding quite a few cars so we might need to get yours onboarded still.
Can you navigate with Apple Maps while on the app or is it only for showing trips information?
Did an insurance company come up with this app?
Is this obd 11 working with Volkswagen cars?
Does it support google maps
I’m aiming to launch turn by turn navigation with Google maps routing in the next couple of months.
I'm having issues with wireless apple car play in my 2024 Toyota RAV4. I get notification that wifi wont connect.
Are there any fixes?

What is the link for the phone holder you have to shoot the video on your deck?
Subscription model ruined it for me.
I want to know more about that camera rig hanging from the sunroof
