      It was strange. Obviously given who he is, he knows all the answers, yet for whatever reason did not want to divulge in detail. Is it possible that there may be changes in production? Or did he not want to give away any secrets?

  • @TJPavey

    As a former electrical engineer I love the details. So refreshing to have good knowledge from a RUclipsr. I just watched the CR best of video (out of curiosity) and they didn’t seem to actually understand that regen was different than one pedal driving, claiming you’d use brake pads if you turned off 1 pedal.

    • @MrAlfable
      @MrAlfable 3 месяца назад +17

      I find it odd so many people are confused about this, regen and blended braking has been around since the first Prius 25 year ago, but I see comments from people all the time that think that any EV that isn't using one pedal isn't using regen.

    “Not lose a single joule of energy”
    It is so refreshing to hear information from engineers who really know the content. Too many companies can’t even get basic units right, and hearing Robert use joule casually in conversation proves he knows what he is talking about.

    • @michaels3003
      @michaels3003 3 месяца назад +4

      I would expect a "PhD" ("Doctor" in Europe and other countries) know what a Joule is.

    • @KyleBrightman
      @KyleBrightman 3 месяца назад +2

      @@michaels3003 Undoubtedly. So many other company’s representatives can’t answer Kyle’s in-depth questions or mistake kW for kWh. Heck, even this week Stellantis put out in its official release a charging rate of 4.5 kWh per minute for a future vehicle.

    • @AndrewTSq
      @AndrewTSq 3 месяца назад

      Not sure why it would matter if they use Joule or Watt? I prefer hearing watt since its more common term in EV's. 1 kWh = 3.6 Million Joule.

    • @KyleBrightman
      @KyleBrightman 3 месяца назад +1

      @@AndrewTSq Because kWh is a derived unit. Joule is a pure unit of energy. Taking a kinetics or thermodynamics class as an engineer (bachelor’s myself) really makes you aware of the distinction be the various units. By far the worst is BTU (like most imperial units).

    Hi Kyle, and OoSR team. Awesome channel.
    OoSR and Kyle’s videos, praising the Taycan on the German autobahn and its fast charging capabilities, was the main reason I moved from a BMW 740d m-Sport x-drive to a Taycan 4S Cross Turismo last September. First EV 😇 but a major change from a diesel with 1.000km range. Don’t regret it. Epric car! I live in Switzerland and can’t imaging a better daily driver than a Taycan CT.
    I do however have a 800km commute that I do 2-6 times per month, so fast and efficient charging is important to me.
    Purpose of this comment is to ask two questions that I can’t get a straight answer to from Porsche.
    1) in this video Kyle talks about the difference between Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Centring. I have recently upgraded to Innodrive (over the air update) . However NO LANE CENTERING. It’s close to non-usable to be ‘thrown from lane to lane’.
    In this video I seem to understand that there is a possibility to option lane CENTERING. However I can’t find such option on any Taycan or the new Macan EV (in Europe). I can find it e.g. on Panamera (as part of Innodrive).
    Am I mistaken, or is there a way to get lane Centering in a Taycan 4S CT?
    2) as efficient charging is important on my long commutes, I am facing a tedious issue with the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager.
    It seems I am NOT able to get the car to PRECONDITION the battery if I just select a DC charging station as destination (even if done from the My Porsche app, e.g. selecting an IONITY charging station and sending it to vehicle). I do not have Sports-Chrono but don’t think this should be the issue.
    If the PIRM however detects that I need to charge to reach destination, and selects a DC charger as a stopover, THEN the battery gets preconditioned.
    Kyle, since you know so much about the technical details and functionality of the Taycan, can you confirm that my observation is correct?
    I can work around the issue (if I have to) by playing with the desired %-SoCat at destination, but it’s annoying if Ihave to. I know my 800km commute quite well by now, and know which 2-3 of the 5 IONITY chargers on the route I plan to hit. Therefore I usually just select the IONITY charger as my destination and hence often do not get prompted to charge on route as I typically have desired %-SoC set to 3%.
    From many of your videos I get the impression that the Taycan will precondition simply my selecting a DC charger as destination. Just does not work on my Taycan 🤔 Am I mistaken?

    Great thing about porsche EVs is they actually give u the range they say it will have and in some cases my taycan out performed. Unlike some brands like tesla which have been shown by carwow , Edmunds Car reviews and others to only achieve 75% of what their range estimates are. Good thing someone sued em a month ago because that's insane!

    Is the 400 A charging limit the reason it only charges at 150 kW max. in "400 V" mode and not 200 kW like other modern cars?
    Can it keep the 150 kW till 80 % like e-tron since the charge is not as thermally challenging?

    Great content Kyle, thanks 💪🏼👍🏼
    Just e few remarks from the technical side😉😉
    Don’t mix up „Chiller“ with the Compressor. The „chiller“ you always talk about, is a passive component. It is nothing else then an evaporator, used to cool the battery cooling circuits cooling liquid.
    The HV Component you mean is the HV Clima Compressor which is a HV Component and makes noise while running.
    Kickdown has several functions here. One of them is overriding the set speedlimit with the limiter.
    The Tycan can and could never decouple the rear e-motor from the gearbox. The clutches it uses (1 claw clutch, 1 multiplate clutch) are ONLY to change the gear ratio in the gearbox and to block the gearbox in „Park“. There is no way that it decouples machanically with those clutches (from the SOS of the Y1A till now)
    In the Tycan Y1A the HV Booster does not in any way „split“ the battery in half. Its a normal DC/DC Converter, to „boost“ the Voltage up (and current down)

    (39:30) ... regarding bi-directional charging: you can get the optional 115-volt outlet in the rear luggage compartment, as per the US configurator. So you can plug standard plugs into that rear outlet to get electricity out of the car.
