      @777Outrigger 16 дней назад +6

      I think 280-320 miles is the sweet spot for range. Over 320 is too much, too big of a battery that you don't need 95% of the time, meaning your daily drive. And besides, after 2 hrs of driving on the highway, 3 hrs max, I'm ready for a break.

    • @FarhoodEnsan
      @FarhoodEnsan 16 дней назад +11

      @@777Outrigger While I agree with too much weight being pulled around, if the battery pack energy density increases, it's a great addition. New Taycan battery pack weighs a tiny bit less that old generation while the capacity has increased a decent amount.
      I'd say a combination of higher density batteries and a better charging curve will greatly improve the long road trip experience of most EVs. And of course the charging network needs to keep up and improve. To non EV owners the mandatory 15 minute stop every 90 minutes (on open roads in Texas where everyone goes 85-90 mph) is not justifiable.

      @@user-my4xu4gf1z Don't give me too much "credit". Were I younger and rich I might go for one of the Porsche EVs over a Tesla, especially if I could get the "station wagon" Porsche here in the States, but as a retiree with limited means who values performance and beauty (think Porsche) but usually prefers comfort, utility, cool software and a superb charging network even moreso, I'm very happy with my Model Y LR AWD, and were I to develop an overwhelming urge for more performance and style in a new car within my budget I'd go for a new Model 3 Performance over any other car out there. I do not, however, think everyone else should necessarily follow my lead. I can certainly believe others would for good reasons prefer Porsches, BMWs, Hyundais, or even some of the Chinese EVs, but I'm firmly in the Tesla camp at this time.

    Could you conduct a top speed range test? Additionally, it would be helpful to include scenarios more typical for European drivers, such as tests at 120, 130 km/h, or even 150 km/h for German roads. This would provide a more realistic assessment for Europe, where driving speeds usually exceed 70 mph.

    • @andreassauerbrei
      @andreassauerbrei 14 дней назад

      @@DavidBrown-bs7gg Mainly for 3 reasons: 1. Electrify America charging infrastructure getting continuously
      worse over the 2.5 years I owned the Taycan. 2. Porsche dealer issues and lack of customer service in the PNW of the US. Not expecting better from Tesla but my Taycan was more than three times as expensive as my new Model Y Performance and for that amount of money I would expect better. 3. Speaking of money: my used Taycan despite the crazy depreciation was worth more than double the Model Y, allowing me to buy my newly 16 years old driver in the family a decent car soon and have some $ left.
      After driving Porsche for over 25 years, I still think the Taycan was an amazing car, maybe one of the best. The way it drives, feels, looks, is fantastic and I still can’t stop looking when I see them especially the sport and cross Turismo. Mine was highly customized and the finishes and options were amazing. Considering the complete EV experience after 2 months Tesla, I feel the Taycan is the better car and a piece of art. The Tesla is the better EV especially when considering the supercharger experience during road trips. It never takes me more than 5-6 seconds for the Tesla to start charging. With EA it took sometimes up to 2 minutes before the car would even start charging and often I had a faulty charger or degraded charging speeds or charger wait times. The model Y also seems an incredible value. I also like to have my phone as a key (vs. still requiring a key nob) and the overall software technology, speed and quality is way more advanced with the Tesla. Just my thoughts. If you get a Taycan: have lots of fun!

    Since about 2018 or so we have a racer § and your ideas you had anounced here are public and a violation of the german street law as you would become a racer in any case something would go wrong. In case of an accidenct the crashed car and your phone will be confiscated and everything analyzed cause the fines are terribly high since pedestrians and other car drivers had been killed. If you announce a high speed ride you are screwed if you end in a german court room cause all your footage will be analyzed and what not. Foreigners tend to forget to check it out before arrival but the fines will be the same, the rules have become different and you are on the edge once the prosecutor starts.

    When the first gen Taycan came out, I was worried about the range and I thought that Porsche would be too focused on performance. With this generation, I cannot believe that they achieved it all. The possibilities with EVs are truly limitless and since the drivetrain is modular (engine being smaller and comprising of multiple separate units and the possibilities of splitting the battery pack), a lot more interesting vehicles will come out soon.
    Also, I think Porsche is one of the most successful EV cars from Germany. Mercedes EQs mostly flopped, BMW's i series is generally just the same ICE car but with batteries, so sub-par integration and Audi's e-trons are just worse Porsches. This may even be one of the most successful adaptations to EVs from a generally ICE-focused manufacturer, except Cadillac Lyriq or Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EVs.

    as a current 4s CT owner i cant justify the massive difference in price to get the new one. here where i live the dealer is actually selling a lot of the used stock as only two people have ordered the new car which here is running 20k more expensive like for like.

    I would totally get the 19" wheels. Better ride, way more range.
    Bjorn Nyland got 580 km from the old 4S on 19" with a constant 90 kph at GPS. The new one ought to give over 700 km.

    Has Porsche arrived with active ride where Formula 1 was in 1992?
    I wonder how much energy that saps. Some companies claim to extract energy from suspension, but I'm not sure that works while cruising...

    What is the google map distance for the same itinerary ? A verification of the car odometer would be useful. Especially given Tesla indiscretions in that domain.

    I have a 2020 Taycan 4S with 86k miles. I don’t think I could ever do a 70mph range test. That’s very hard for me to keep a Porsche at 70 😅
    But yeah, it drives like nothing else I’ve tried. I have driven a Lucid and a Model S.

    If you're still in Europe pls do a range test at 140 kmh.
    Thats what a lot of people drive in Europe (since they tend to slightly go over the allowed speed of, in most countries, 130 kmh)

    Going only 70 mph on the German Autobahn makes you a „Verkehrshinternis“ traffic obstacle! The minimum speed for a Porsche on the Autobahn is at least 100 mph! 😅

    It’s too bad you don’t have someone else there with you. You could do a side by side “old” Taycan vs new, range and charging performance tests. I’d also love to see Turbo vs GT. Lastly, I want to see a video with me behind the wheel 😅

    Very cool but $207,000 as configured. Granted that's the Turbo version and with a bunch of options but options I think everyone would want anyway. Crazy prices.

    On the one hand: really impressive car.
    On the other: Configured with the basic necessities for a car like this it is 150k Euro's. (that doesn't include the fancy suspension).
    I was expecting a bit better for the range. My BMW i5 edrive40 will almost get the same range, but charges quite a bit slower.
    For the consumption: I was hoping for a bit less. 194Wh/km should be for a 120km/h and not for 112km/h. My BMW does around 170Wh/km at 112km/h.

    Range test max speed - yes please! Ac or heat on wide open and just see how bad it could be! No one cares about putting around at 70mph behind everyone in the right lane

    Wasn't the range result in the iX still better? 🤔
