Alyssa, your camera work is top notch! Love that you back away and zoom in so the car is proportionate. So many people rely on .5x eliminating the ability to truly see the vehicle. Props! Thank you!! 🙌🏼 👏🏼
And Alyssa stayed admirably calm while Kyle was testing the Prologue's stability by throwing it abruptly into cornering... watching him driving reminded me of me at 16-17yo.
Have a Rivian and love the front trunk..groceries, camping gear, dirty stuff, etc.
Yep, I've used the front trunks on all my EVs. (BMW i3, Tesla Model S with that glorious original monstrous frunk, Ford Mach-E, Rivian R1T.) They're great for dirty things, for "store things like charge cord, first aid kit, etc that I don't want rolling around the cargo area," and for groceries!
@@AziaVenom Insurance is going up fast for all cars.
Same! I use my front trunk all the time on my Rivian R1S. What I can say from people I know who DON'T use theirs is that having a powered front trunk makes all of the difference. My wife has a Volvo XC40 Recharge and the two-step manual latch keeps her from ever using it.
Th frunk is front trunk rear trunk is th trunk
@@bobjohnson4512it’s going up for all of us to cover the fire hazard that ALL EV’s present. Rest of us are just getting screwed.
I used to have a 1973 Volkswagen Karman Ghia. Since I was a drummer, I was able to load the entire drumset into the car. I used the FRUNK to store my cymbals and stick bag.
There is New EV Volkswagen type model of the one you Have , So you can buy the EV if you wish , better because you will not be worried about the burning 🔥 engine at the back of the Car
I love the 1 hour long reviews from Kyle. He sure knows how to keep viewers / nerds hooked.
This is one of the best looking EVs. It's amazing what they were able to do to refine the Blazer's design.
I like the Prologue exterior more than the Blazer, but like the Blazer and interior better.
I’ve driven a Tesla since 2019. I never really used the front trunk until 2021 when I install the power lift upgrade. Since then I’ve used it quite a bit and wouldn’t want to give it up.
Had electric golf from 2015 and same, because golf did not have front trunk at all ...
I have a Rivian and I use mine all the time! That's the key - it being powered. When I had a Model 3 I never really used my front trunk.
I had VW Beetles for years and used the front trunk all the time.
@@user-vx7vi3vq1c😂😂😂
I personally drive an ICE Honda currently and looking in the near future to move to a BEV. But this is a GM vehicle with all of the issues that go with that. You cant currently beat the Model Y RWD for pricing, quality and features. This vehicle is a no for me. Thanks for reviewing and providing insight.
Tesla and quality?? I had one, and it’s a cheaply made car, they all are. Pricing is great though.
Don't listen to @Cjdergrosse. I own a '23 MYP and it's anything but cheap. It's a quality machine and built really well. I've been underneath this thing and removed the underbody panels, and I've removed some of the interior panels when wiring an aftermarket amp. This thing is put together very well. Much better than a lot of other vehicles I've worked on.
@@Cjdergrosseyou've obviously not seen Chinese and Berlin built Tesla's , they are comparable with Legacy auto manufacturers .
@@Cjdergrosse You've never been in an EV in your life, nevermind owned one. Tesla's did indeed used to have their issues with build quality when they first began, that's expected from a brand new company, but has since been resolved as they improved their models generation after generation. Their latest Model 3 Highland shames most legacy vehicles at that price point.
Yes, very expensive luxury vehicles such as Mercedes in the $100,000 range still have better premium builds, but that's why you pay all that extra dough.
Petrol sniffers losing it 🤣🤣🤣@@Cjdergrosse
I was a die hard Honda fan for years until the Model 3 came out. Honda had nothing comparable and this certainly won't sway me to sell my Tesla.
So no need to even watch video then !?
To be fair, this is actually a re-badged GM product.
What!? You won’t replace a sedan with an SUV? Shocking. 😅
@@IvanNedostalI think I understand the original poster. After 2 Acuras and 3 Hondas, I’m disappointed in Honda BEV offering. After watching review, I’ve give up on Honda. Tesla M3 to replace civic, Rivian to replace Odyssey within next 3 years.
As always the best walkthrough. Love how you explain the stuff you cant read from the specs. (like regen)
The Ioniq 5 is still my favorite non Tesla ev in this class.
Too bad for all the ICCU and 12v issues.
I don't know about that. My first EV was a Hyundai Ioniq classic 28 KWh. No 12 Volt issues about that.
Recently, for 2 months, I own a Kia e Niro 64 KWh and also no problem with the 12 Volt issues again?
If I have to side in the car for 10 minutes or so, I turn off the lights and let the EV run normally. Or I turn it totally off and wait in between the times.
You can't wait in your car if it runs only on you 12 V battery. It drains like crazy! And also turn on automatically support charging 12 V battery mode!
@anthonymartinez887
Have you experienced in that?
Agree
20,000 miles in and driven across 22 states in my Ioniq 5 since June of 2023 and it's been rock solid.
Frunks are great for takeout food so you don't stink up your car and I use mine most everytime I go to the grocery store so everything doesn't slide around in the trunk.
I buy food that doesnt stink
Exactly what ours is used for.
@@BarryObaminableAll food stinks after you’re no longer hungry. 😅
This would be great if the frunk was heated. I don’t think hot food would stay hot for long in -20 degrees F.
@@mykaljosephAn insulated hood helps.
Great vid btw!
If this had been around when I got my i4, I'd consider it but now I'm in love it. I've had a Prius, Prius Prime, and then a Honda Clarity Touring PHEV.
Lane keep assist is what Chevy called it in our 2018 suburban. That is a 2018 Chevy platform with a battery and electric motor and a Honda badge.
11:33 Alyssa has a very valid point. I could care less if my EV had a front trunk or not. Plus, living in a cold climate with snow and freezing temps. It’s pointless to even use the front trunk. Throw it in the car!
The front trunk is brilliant in the cold when you have leftover food from a restaurant or refrigerated or frozen groceries. Plus your restaurant food won't make your car smell like it
The front trunk is useful to store valuables while parked.
Their next EV should be called the Intermission
Edited eh! Didn't fit the narative
@@danhoussar7325 shhhhh!
In my opinion and my experiences with recent new Honda and Acura, Honda is awful. Lots of issues and garbage customer service.
@@ipro3838 I think you're responding to the wrong comment
Act 1 !!!
Great review! Cracking little car
I love the front trunks on both of my EV’s. I always put take out in frunk so I don’t stink up the car. Also the door to get into the house from the garage is right in front of the frunks, perfect for groceries. I don’t have to back in or walk around to the back. Great for when it’s raining too. More storage is a must for us. These young reviewers don’t have kids so I can understand why they don’t care.
Funny, I distinctly remember one of the first times I saw a Model S about 10 years ago, a guy came out of a Pagliacci Pizza branch in Seattle and put the pizza in his frunk. "The pizza goes in the frunk, eh?" I asked in admiration. Yeah, he replied, the smell wafts in through the whole cabin.
Guess compartments have been separated a bit more since then. ;-)
does Kyle’s meat taste good?
I have kids and a model 3. Never use the frunk. On the Tesla the hood is so flimsy I worry about bending it. Also, it’s just not convenient to use.
EEEEEEEEPIC !!!!!!!!! Best production effort since dark gggreat camera work top notch
Information
Will you test drive Zeekr or BYD in Europe since they won't be coming in the US.
I really loved your in-depth review of the Prologue! It was a very interesting car at the Auto Show and this may go in to be a great seller
I was with Alyssa with her views/comments on this Honda. Thanks for wrapping him up Alyssa!
Same here, she is like the normal car buyer.
Agree. Wouldn't go for a Tesla at this point
Kyle knows he is Tesla biased the way his father Dave is. Being smart he knows bringing Alyssa along greatly enhances the video value for regular car buyers.
I lose brain cells every time she speaks.
But Kyle the condescender just has to be right
Great video per usual! Prologue seems like a great option! I do think Kyle should spend time in an AWD Lyriq, would be curious to hear his comparisons from AWD Prologue to AWD Lyriq.
I so can't wait for this to arrive in Canada
It needs some work on the steering feedback and does it have dog mode?
One look at that list of charging stops immediately shows me what a headache it would be to road trip one of these. Nothing beats the Supercharging experience.
So will you be able to charge on tesla chargers
Good review, We need more normal EVs like this.
the lane centering is really a hint for the driver that he is leaving the lane. My Dads Cadi's had that. Also my Rivian does that as well as the driver plus.
It looks like it showed Rivian Fast Chargers... but i thought those will still exclusive to Rivian. (Maybe I read it wrong on the screen when he was looking at the trip planner)
Ok, you don’t need to come to BC to take a Cybertruck in the switchbacks. You found an ideal spot.
I need to know if the drive by wire will allow high speed cornering like this Honda.
Great review
I feel cabin is noisy and suspension is it soft as crv?
They said it was quiet during the drive on the highway.
Wasn’t there some news Honda/Acura and GM decided to not collaborate on additional EVs after this gen Prologue and ZDX? If true how is that going to play out with long term ownership/service and resale value?
The advantage of trunks is that when driving cars in winter you can get stuff from the frunk without letting all the cold air inside the car especially when you open trunk and a door at the same time when traveling with multiple passengers.
Does the Honda version have "software" problems too?
That look Kyle gives Alyssa at 42:40 is priceless.😂😂😂
what's with you zoomers talking like 55 year old white women? "Priceless"? Really?
Kyle - Thanks for the video. I bought a used 2019 Prestige about the same time that you and Elisa bought one. I found out the 12V battery has a 48mo. warranty. I am planning to replace mine at my next scheduled maint. (6/24). Do you have any thoughts on this? We all know what happens when you loose your 12V battery.....
Real dials for AC controls is nice. I hate the trend of haptic/touch/screens for everything. When you are driving you just need something tangible.
we use the heck out of front storage especially on a road trip in my MYP.
I would never ride with Kyle on winding roads. Alyssa is a real trooper.
Can he not be condescending to women for 5 minutes? Elite challenge
do you think she was scared? lol
10:58 - I love using the front trunk on my Model Y. There are many things I use it for.
* If I need to be able to use something without having to unload the cargo in the back of the car to get to the underfloor storage. (IE: Charging cable, tire inflator, etc.)
* For holding food without having to worry about it smelling up the cabin interior. Also, if it spills it's easier to clean up.
* For storing valuables that you don't want other's to see. It's easy to smash a window and grab a laptop bag from the backseat, but thieves won't bother trying to rip open the front trunk.
re: "thieves won't bother trying to rip open the front trunk." correct, they'll only do that to steal the headlight units out of 911's and Taycans.
Afternoon Kyle and Alyssa
Cheers Kyle and Alyssa
I do believe this car has Honda Sensing which includes Lane Keeping Assist but your hands have to be on the steering wheel before the system keeps the vehicle centered
sport mode probably changes throttle response, steering ratio (maybe) or responsiveness, and regen
Side note for Ultium vehicles. They will connect to a hotspot and use that connection exclusively for everything from infotainment to navigation to supercruise data, etc. So even if you let the data connection subscription lapse or 4G gets phased out it will still connect to a 5G (or 6G at that point) hotspot. I already do this now with a verizon 5G hotspot because AT&T sucks where I am.
This car is really nice looking but to me the Blazer EV looks way better. It looks a little meaner. By the way, remember Honda's old tagline, 🎶 "Honda, We Make It Simple!" 🎶 Gr8 vid as usual. 🚙 🇺🇸 🇯🇵🔌⚡
The Prologue is really quite handsome. That's a great color too.
Yesss super hyped for your impressions
26:00 sounds exactly like my Lyriq.
I think the Chevy Equinox will be similar, but I wonder what the pricing is like.
I agree it would be better to simply give everyone credits for home charger installation.
This will be very successful for Honda
I’ve been a GM guy most of my life, but I love the styling + packaging of this so much more. Will I be a first time Honda buyer when my lease is up later this year?
I am not a GM guy, I am all about Honda. However, 4 of my last 5 cars have been GM because they had what I wanted and have turned out to be well built and solid.
Very, very cool car. Good looking!
2024 Lyriqs on the latest software package seem to have gained Lane Centering with LKA and ACC enabled.
It has AC buttons. Wow I am sold.
so on 26.00 ... no button to close the trunk from inside??
Usually, you just press the hatch open button twice, same button...once to open, once to close
Did you test the AM radio mode?
What’s AM radio?
The open space in the frunk space makes repairs and servicing easier.
Since it’s a GM product it will most likely need frequent repair😂
Looks cool. Interesting Honda partnership with GM; surely Honda would move to develop their own platform over time? Also, wonder if that front trunk will be included at launch - seems like there's sufficient room for it to be easily accommodated.
whellp, at least this didn't brick on the review drives like the Blazer EV was doing. So that's something.
The extra space in the front might be for heat and airflow management.
Looks good, but the touch screen interface needs improvement.
It is only pre production, so difficult to have a firm opinion.
37:40 in, Do you not have a wrist joint?
Crazy driving 😆
my favorite part is the filthy hand print on the c pillar
Agree looks nice. Should appeal to some Honda fans and those looking for non-Teslas. BTW I found the weight from Honda News: 4,932 to 5,273 lbs. front bias 55/45. Good start.
It's such a shame that the once rightly dominant Japanese ICE manufacturers refused to go with EV'S and now they seem forced to have partnerships with other EV manufacturers to just put their badges on vehicles, to presumably keep their loyal customers on board, while they admit that they were wrong and start developing their own models.
It's almost an insult to the avg consumer that such a talented engineering company would dumb sh*t down because why not? Honda is straight up saying "just make something... and the fool consumer will buy it. amirites?"
The "sport" mode having no power change and only being a sound change. WTF? Eff you Honda. Consumers should get more.
I love Honda/Toyota ICE cars. Have owned several. H/T's EVs have been mostly garbage. Bizarre. Kinda hope H/T lose going forward to make way for better tech.
The average consumer is nit going to know that. They are going to see the Honda badge and that’s it.
They are devleoping their own.
@@bucknut2000 I'm not so sure any more. The Japanese were of the opinion, that EV'S would fail. The head of the Japanese Motor Organisation, who was until recently the head of Toyota, is still of the opinion that EV'S are just a fad. He's more interested in hydrogen than electric!
Basically he's a petrol head and a dinosaur.
@@TJBellamy99 The average consumer is not buying EV'S yet. The average EV buyer is way more savvy than normal. Especially with these kind of extensive reviews so easily available.
It's looks like a Volkswagen Touareg at the front?
After my ID.4 lease ends, I would consider the Prologue AWD.
In your opinion does the lower cost/ less need for service over the life of the car stifle EV adoption by dealers?
Dealers with adopt EVs or perish. There's still plenty of work to do on them from a service perspective. They won't have the oil change cash cow, service departments might become smaller, but they'll still exist.
@@otm646 I agree, but most dealers only look short term
this thing looks great, but imo the lyriq and blazer interior and exterior are much better looking. I'm interested in seeing what Honda has done with the software. It's known blazer and lyriq software is a bit buggy at the moment. Although updates are coming in March.
Kyle-- please do ADAS test of the Prologue thru the Hogback challenge!🎉🎉
What's an induction motor?
Funny I am awake in Seoul, s. Korea. 11:24 pm Thursday Feb 24th. Waiting for all the Honda videos to drop from the Land of the Morning Calm..
Great parking spot dude.
1:14:55 Great review by you both.
This car is perfect for existing Honda owners
It seems like a Model Y dual motor long range, for far less cost, with way more power, similar size, more range, faster charging, excellent lane centering standard, and of course full access to all Tesla Superchargers is, on paper, a way better deal. Brand loyalty will let them sell a few, Musk's Tweets will push some away from Tesla, but Hyndai, Ford, Kia, etc. also have alternatives.
Not everyone wants a Tesla….
The stop sale in the blazer is not much to do with the Ultium platform itself. It’s the infotainment system
Honda, it's never to late. Love the colour too.
I was interested in the Prologue as my next CUV, but given the price, the charging curve, Rebaged GM throughout, lack of power in the AWD, I'm going to keep my CRV.
Kyle, I hope that you get to review the BYD Seal on you next European trip.
EVgo is horrible here in NYC. Almost no chargers available at all till you get deep into Long Island.
👎
I agree with Alyssa r.e. the front trunk...
Where in US will this Honda SUV be built ? All electric Vehicles by GM have more defects road noise ?
Mexico
GM has no plans for an EV factory. All are assembled in Mary Barra’s Barn - 3 a week.
Love your videos. Can you guys do the long ones and then clip out like a 15 minute highlight version for shorter view-ability if time is limited?
Is there a basic architecture problem with Ultium? I've heard that the pouch design is not as robust/defect tolerant as cylindrical cells, that's why the rollout with GM has been slower than expected.
NO, the rollout delays have all been related to problems with assembling the Ultium packs. They chose more traditional vendors instead of more battery centric vendors. Then GM had problems with the software, something that should not affect the Hondas.
@@freeaccess5905 and the update is being rolled out this month that fixes the previous issues
You need to have a golf bag full of clubs to throw in the back of your test vehicles so I can get a concept of the cargo space. 😊
As someone who is a big Honda fan, and who owns one, this is my opinion on the prologue. As someone who owned multiple Hondas before I feel like that this Prologue is a nice car but does not give the Honda vibe. Whether it’s the keys the steering wheel or other stuff they are way different then what you would see on a Honda because those are GM designed. I’m also curious of how the reliability will be.
Most eVs' Nav/Ente should have Swype onscreen keyboard like the Android Keyboard
I’m a former Honda owner, have an EV6 and love it. I really hope that Honda has a good lineup of EVs to choose from 10 years from now, after I drive the EV6 into the ground.
review the new EQA
Looked like you were pushing under the setting you wanted to hit. Maybe that it’s why your push wasn’t activating the setting.
So I'm thinking about purchasing my first EV... It's between this prologue(touring) & ioniq 5? What would you guys suggest?
I5!!! Top trim. Love mine!
Tesla Model Y LR is better than either. Three years and 40,000 miles with no issues.
38:38 time stamp - the homelink support website indicates a GM product. 😂
I personally think Honda is wrong that current Honda owners will transition to this, especially once they learn it’s really a GM product. Devoted Honda owners will know something isn’t right as soon as they sit in it. Honda owners buy “Honda” vehicles not a GM vehicle with a Honda badge.
They bought the old rebadged Isuzu Rodeo (Passport) back in the 90s. We had a lot of Honda faithful folks angry over it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it sent some of them to different dealers/brands.
Agreed. Honda loyalist buy them because of reliability. This is an expensive vehichle and has no HONDA guts with GM having a bad track record with EVs. There is no guarantee on reliability here. This will be a very short run vehicle most likely.
@@joshreed1216 love the negativity. Thing has not even hit the showrooms and the whining already starts. I doubt Honda would put their name on it when it was total garbage.
Honda wouldn't sell it if they didn't think it was a good product.
@@heiner71 did you not watch the review? If you did, did you ignore every negative? Did you ignore the overheat warnings or the fact that reviewers weren’t allowed to charge them?
I was a Honda person for many years before switching to electric. My concern is that GM doesn’t have the greatest track record for quality and longevity, we’re on the opposite end Honda has a track record similar to Toyota where you see many of them driven to 300,000 miles easily. as a Honda person for most of my life I would never consider purchasing this vehicle knowing that it was GM underneath, I would consider purchasing Honda underneath… with GM switches, because I’ve had multiple Hondas that I’ve driven past 250,000 miles.
Your ideas regarding Honda vs GM quality are 20-30 years out of date.
Except for they’re not. GM is shit, Ford is even more shit and for the last 30 years Honda can drive three times longer than either of those brands with 10% of the issues. But we all have our opinions.
I think these GM based experiments are going to be a nightmare to get serviced or within a few years of buying. Especially any sort of electrical system gremlins.
Reminds me of the Cummins based Nissan Titans in that regard.
Alyssa is definitely stepping up and being more confident. Nice job.
