      Because Tesla are setting the price. With this vehicle Honda are offering a much worse car for more money. What is concerning is that many of the legacy manufacturers will not survive the next few years if the best they can offer is this and people such as yourself will only have a Tesla or a BYD to choose from.@@timscott3027

      In theory, easier to get into, but harder to get out of. Some of the Tesla super chargers around me are pull through for towing. It is a huge time saver to not need to unhook a trailer which you would need to do with either pull up or back in charging.
      I also prefer how Tesla hides the charge port under the tail light segment. Just looks clean.

    I'm sure brand loyalty will get them some sales and you would think the reputation for reliability may account for a few more. The problem with the reliability aspect is that EV's tend to be a lot more reliable anyway, because there is so much less that can go wrong. I think this will count against them where reliability is concerned in the short term and where brand loyalty is concerned in the longer term, because much of that brand loyalty also stems from reliability. I currently have a Kona Electric, which is cheaper and in some respects better. There are quite a few cars that I am considering for when I replace and this is not going to be anywhere near the list.

    My husband and I both love Honda but I reluctantly left when I switched to an EV 4 years ago (as they didn’t have an EV/practical EV offering). My husband will be moving from his Honda to an EV too next year and we are disappointed to see that Honda STILL haven’t delivered an EV in a mid-range price bracket. Not only that, this new offering is yet another EV SUV style. If they electrified the Jazz, Civic or designed a purpose-built smart looking non-SUV style medium sized car in a competitive price bracket then we’d both be straight back to Honda. Their ICE engineering and reliability is fantastic as is the customer service at the dealerships, but it feels Honda have still not committed to putting in the R&D needed to convincingly break into the EV market 😢.

    Charging port location: I have grown accustomed to having a right rear charging port on our VW Buzz. A month before the car arrived we had a charger installed knowing this port location. For over 30 years we have fronted into a carport, and through force of habit wanted to continue this. For most people, some port locations are more appropriate than others. The worst for us, would have been a left rear port. Our charger location actually serves a right front or centre front location optimally, because the charger was placed at the right front of the vehicle when it is parked. A left front position would have been equally good for us.

    • @iambenmitchell
      @iambenmitchell 7 месяцев назад

      Left front and right rear are the worst possible locations. Tesla have the cheapest public chargers, they’re reliable etc. But if your charge port is at the front left or rear right, you’ll take up 2 or 3 stalls to charge 1 car

My mind says they are useful on longer trips, but nothing more. In three days it will be 9 months since we took delivery of Buzz. We have still not used a Supercharger or equivalent. In fact, we have only once charged anywhere except our house, at a hotel which provided an ordinary 10A socket that used about 15 hours to charge Buzz.

We have 2 Nissan Leaf's and have never had any problems other than parking in the wrong bay of a dual charging station. Swarco are topical of this where the cable is too short for the second bay so you end up moving, unless a Audi moves in a lighting speed and jumps the cue!! Al these excuses car manufactures make about charging ports at the front is nonsense, because you have so much tech these days to avoid front end bumps, or are they saying there collision tech is not up to the task? Me and my family tried to sit at back, but theres feeling like you sit in hospital waiting room.
    Did not even bothered for test drive, got enough impression by sitting there.
    Completely different story in Toyota Bz4x. In driver seat feeling like sitting in fighter jet and somehow theres feeling from inside that car is small and easy to drive in parking lot. Back seats are dream, like luxury car, fancy. Space there like in dancing floor, enormous.
    No test drive needed, ordered spontaneously.

More than enough for daily driving but with such a big car you want to travel from time to time. And 78KW of maximum charging power?? That's ridiculous.

    Not surprised. I'm a Honda fan, but the moment I saw they were partnering up with GM AGAIN, it was dead on arrival. At least they figured out this partnership wasn't going to work and killed it, but that's still time wasted. Honda leadership really has their heads up their asses when it comes to understanding that partnering with GM isn't the way to go (see: Saturn V6 deal and Cruise self-driving vehicles)

    I’ve been a Honda fan for years, but I wouldn’t touch this. For this money I’d be eyeing an Ioniq 5 or EV6. For a car of this size the Kona or Niro are far more practical (the Kona has a 466 litre boot, much bigger than this) and both have more range. At this price people are right to compare it to the Model Y, for me the insurance was so much more expensive on a Tesla…)
    I don’t think we will see all too many of these on the road…

    Vauxhall want £38,000 for a corsa E top of range , so is the Mazda expensive? All electric cars are crazy prices at moment

    • @lozkko

      Price on the Vauxhall e-corsa is a figment of the imagination, I am sure it drops by at least £5k, a lot more if you bargain, as soon as you walk into showroom. Vauxhall has ambitious sales targets and will discount, whereas I suspect Honda will keep it high and not sell. A bit like their small EV (forgot the name, Honda e?) I think I saw only one in the wild😂

      @@lozkko I suspect most are bought on some kind of Salary Sacrifice PCP scheme. I just checked on Autotrader and the first listing was a 2022 Corsa-E with 11000 miles on the clock for £18000.

    Silly place to put the charge point. Most home chargers are near the rear of the drive or garage, so the obvious place should be near the rear of the car. I do wonder sometimes what these designers are thinking ….

    Regen on most EV's is pretty mild with a battery that is 90% or more charged. It relies on being able the put all that regenerated power into the battery, which it can't do if the battery is almost fully charged.

    • @markymarkreviews
      @markymarkreviews 7 месяцев назад +1

      May be when the battery is 99 or 100% charged but at 90% you should get noticeable re-gen for sure. I have been an EV driver for 7 years now and driven numerous EVs, if the battery is not full or "almost" not full, you will get re-gen.

    • @Antiguan_Dart
      @Antiguan_Dart 7 месяцев назад +2

      Some EV like the Korean E-GMP simulate the re-gen even at 100% SOC with brakes so the driving/braking feel is almost exactly the same regardless of the battery % SOC.

    • @markglanville6495
      @markglanville6495 7 месяцев назад

      Great points. Suppose the excess energy could be burnt off like is is with truck Ebrakes, by effectively shorting out a generator on the propshaft!
      I can't claim to have owned multiple EV's but have a quite good understanding of the electronics involved. I currently own a Vivaro e Life van and the regen is quite mild, probably this compounded by the weight of the vehicle. In my case the regen effectiveness loosely follows the charge curve. I feel there is definitely a difference for instance, between a 20% state of charge and a 90% state of charge!

    The sun roof has just put me off the car, it’s dreadful. Reminds me of my CRV I bought 27 years ago, it had a dreadful boot cover with popper buttons to hold it in place. I complained bitterly about it and eventually Honda fitted a roller blind type. The charge port at the front is brilliant, easy to access and less likely to be damaged, full marks for that.

    Yep it's a bit meh. Very expensive for what is an average EV. The Chinese models are going to blow Honda, Toyota, VW out of the water unless they can find ways to bring their costs and prices down. Front charge ports do save the hassle of working out how to position your car at a charge point. Some cables are not very long and I worry about the stress on the charge port of a heavy cable pulling on it - especially if your only option it to stretch it along the back or side of the car.

    This is more expensive, has less range, and charges at half the speed, of the much larger and sportier Tesla Model Y. Do the people at Honda know that this directly competes with that? I'm trying to understand the pricing but 4 cup holders in the back doesn't exactly make up for Tesla Sentry mode, and a 21 speaker surround sound gap either.
    It's almost like they don't want to sell this... 30k, car.
