This guy’s always got the BEST videos. Other guys try to be funny, quirky, and tell bad jokes. Plus they don’t actually SHOW you what’s going on. This guy - videos are simple, explanation clear, and video actually shows you what to do.
Keep ‘em coming.

I like that you left the whole process in the video so that we could see an actual problem come up. Some people edit the video to make it seem like it goes perfect for them every time.
This! 🎉
Dang! Straight to the point. No ridiculous background music or unnecessary commentary and a few hiccups along the way to help us troubleshoot on our own. NICE WORK! 👍
Very helpful! A little tip: the bottom strip was all torn up and I couldn't pull the spline out. I used a heat gun to warm up the metal piece and soften the vinyl spline and was able to pull it out.
You’re kidding me!! I’ve been struggling with my cats ripping my seal up, losing heat/air through the door, and crying over this, and it’s this easy?? 😭 I thought I would have to remove that wood! Thank god for RUclips!!
Same!!!! My cats suck! Don't know why they messed it up, but I'm glad I found this video.
Also here cuz of cats. 😡
@@stevencooper9086 welcome!
Wish it was this easy!! I’ve tried multiple times and two trips to Home Depot and still can’t get the damn weatherstripping to go into that tiny groove. Uggghhh. Guess it’s time to call a handyman. 🫤

everytime i search youtube for home improvement, I always get a video by this guy. He always has the best videos.
Yeah he fye (fire)
Yes he does, I built a nice addition on my house with his help! Shannon is great
I love that the stripping didn't go in easy as pie but he demonstrated how to stick to the job and not get frustrated.
lol what do you think he would do? post a video of him getting frustrated and quit? 😂

I agree. His video is realistic.

This guy has by far the best home improvement videos. He’s easy to listen to. His videos are thorough and he’s descriptive.
Thanks for this! I never had a dad growing up, so learning these small (yet very significant) handy-man repairs is a lifesaver!
I had been putting off replacing door weatherstrip for two winters , didn't think I could afford to have it done, and didn't know how to do it myself. But today it was windy cold and wind was blowing through so I thought what the heck I'm going to try and fix it .Looked it up on youtube and voila there you was. i went to the local hardware store bought the strip $4.99 came home very simple and easy thanks to your video. thanks Again.
Single mom here! My dog chewed my stripping and have to replace. Thank you for showing me how to do it! Happy Holidays!
You got this! Happy Holidays to you too!
Im a newbie and totally thought mine was going to be glued on or something. Glad to see how easy this is. Need to do this to my back door asap!
Love your videos. Your productions are professional, easy to follow, and zero fluff! Don't have to deal with what seems like you are auditioning for a B grade movie role like some of the videos out there. Helpful for spectrum of skill levels.
As for this particular video, like some of viewers here I was about to start ripping the doorframe thinking the seal is built in. From now on, I am searching your collection of videos first before anything.
Thanks so much!
Thank you for this video! It may be a stupid-simple job, but if you have never seen it done before, you don’t know how to start. I have had a weather strip in my house by the back door for at least a year now. 🤦🏻♀️ I found your video about five minutes ago, and it is already completely installed. 🎉
Thanks! Clear and informative with no wasted time. Much appreciated, and a great way to start my project.
Thank you for the donation!
I have seen a lot of home handyman type videos depicting different levels of skill. I hope you realize your videos provide a very positive set of instructions that are backed by your knowledge and skill. Thanks!
I agree with just about everyone else. One of my dogs ripped up one side of my weatherstripping when she got locked out. I was really struggling with how to do this and after watching this video had the old swapped with the new in under 5 minutes! Yay! thank you!
Same lol
Me and my bro was needing to replace our weatherstripping and legit was talking about we didn't know if it was difficult even tho it seemed easy and you definitely confirmed it's easy! Definitely appreciate the tutorial and time uploading this...
Thank you for the step by step. My 2 yr old grandson ripped the stripping from door knob to floor and I need to replace it. This is a big help.
I watched my contractor put the first one in when my home was built, 7 years ago! I said it was so easy, I can remember that. Thank you for the reminder. I knew what to buy, just forgot what to do. Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much! I almost paid someone $165 to do this for me! How crazy that it’s so easy and fast! Thanks again!!
It sure is crazy how some of these home remodeler's charge what they charge for a job like this. Crooked.
@Kcaj that's why I try to learn how to fix things myself. These handyman contractors are scam artists

2024 help here! My stripping was so hard to push in the groove. Thanks for the video. Subscribed!
You just saved me a bit of money. Moving to a new house a week from Monday and was already told the weather stripping needs to be replaced. Thanks!
I'm in construction (Electrician) and consider myself a 'general flunkie' for other things, but there's always something that just pops up that I have no idea how to do and this was the perfect explanation video. Thanks so much!
Helped so much! Hardest part was figuring what went where and how to keep it in the groove. The use of the tool was a huge help.

Thanks bro. Just did this on my door and it worked. I started with needlenose plyers and it was just tearing. Switched to regular plyers with larger gripping surface area and was able to pull it out.
I love the sound of anything snapping into place.
Thanks bro. My front door has been fucked with enough I couldn’t see how it was SUPPOSED to go in. I’ve only got a groove for the bottom portion of my door. The frame is three pieced, only the bottom is original door frame.
Now I know I’ve got to dado those two upper pieces.. or try to just pry what’s there back first I suppose.
Or cut and glue the strip like these guys did.
I love that I can spend three minutes on RUclips thanks to folks like you though.
Big up- your small contributions are a light in this world
You’re welcome, glad it helped.
Thank you! As a renter, I really appreciate videos like this. Can get more of my safety deposit back.

Our family pets have wrecked these seals on front and back doors over the years... relieved to see this is an easy fix
Thanks for your video instruction! I did it today, and the process took just around 15 minutes
Great work!
I couldn't get the new weatherstrip in. I just need some encouragement from my Canadian friend. Thanks for the vids. You're the man.
Thank you for this video! A bought one piece of weather strip and was trying to figure out how to do it. After watching the video, I installed it before my morning coffee. Thank you again!
Did you have your morning coffee at 11:59am then.

Just what I needed. I could not figure out how to get the old stripping out but now I see what I need to do. Thanks for the video!
So helpful! Absolutely not handy, and just knocked this out in 20 minutes. Saved me a handyman visit. Thank you!!!
Thank you from Texas! My husband did it the last time but he's out of town and our cat ripped up our strip. Did it myself this evening before he comes home lol
I’m here for this exact reason! Also from Texas 😂
Going to attempt this today for the same reason!! lol
Just did mine for the same reason too ... Cats! Lol.
Second time replacing because of my cat 😡
Your red bar appears to be a tool for working bee hives. Glad to find another use for my hive tool as my dogs have shredded my weather stripping. Good job. Thanks.
I own so many of these handy red pry bars and own exactly zero bees! LOL
Im amazed this is so easy, I thought I was going to have to remove the frame- can’t wait to get this project done this weekend
By far, the best video I've come across in my searches for diy weatherstripping
Mine is still in good shape but doesn't seem like the door has the tight fit I remember, I live in WI 16 degrees right now so I will try to replace it in spring. Thank you Shannon I have learned a lot from your videos, thanks for sharing.
Thanks man! Did this job today @ my house. Rocked it. Bought that bar tool you use, and it's kinda my new favorite thing. Keep it up. Great vid.
Thank you for the help and for the detailed guide! I was able to replace my torn weather strip and now it looks very clean
Just replaced the strip at my girlfriends house, it was so bad I could see daylight. Thanks for the tutorial and showing how easy it is
Excellent video and just what I needed! Thank you sir for helping me as I’m usually so insecure on projects I’ve never done, thinking I’m going to tuin something lol. Again thanks, I’m headed to the door to replace my stripping today that my Golden Retriever scratched and tore up during puppy days.
That’s why I need to replace mine! My Chesapeake did the same thing! 😊
So so helpful! Thank you so much for posting! I’m a very impatient wife and like to do things on my own.. this was so easy!
Lol yup if we wait on the men to do it then it will never get done...😂
Thank very much Sir. I was having a lot of trouble doing this project. God bless you 🙏
Thankvyou Terry as always showing us how to DIY videos to improve our homes. I greatly appreciate you sir!!!
Thanks for this video! It showed me EXACTLY what I needed to know to change my door side seal. Amazingly helpful!
Even though this weather stripping all looks the same, it isnt. Some is stiffer and the door wont shut. I've done numerous doors and it's important to get the same density.
the 24 year-old weatherstrip that is on my garage service door is black and seems very soft, it's a total hot mess though, just falls apart in your hand. So what type of black weatherstrip should i get and thanks a ton for your input !!!!!! can you send me a link to a good replacement , i need to go all around the door. I fixed the rotting at the bottom of the door, so getting the new weatherstriping in might be a challenge. i might have to cut it down and just glue that part on because i'm not sure if the slot has been affected (probably has) by my wood epoxy and fiberglass (bondo) repair down there. any tips on that is also welcomed. I wish i could just replace the entire door frame but that will have to wait until for a couple years.
I am not a handyman but after watching this video I took on replacing mine. Thank you.
Thanks for letting us watch the WHOLE process.
Shannon is always here for ya! Thanks a ton buddy!
Thanks for posting this video. You saved me a lot of money . I was going to have a professional to install one piece of weather strip, just like you did here in this video.
Looks very easy and fast.
Thanks again.
I look forward to seeing more of your videos 🙏
Brown will hide more light than white. I used white and there are areas where the weather strip is still effective but the light color shows light. I’ve aligned the door as good as I can. I’m not a pro at doors. If I was it probably would not make a difference what color weather strip I used. Hope this helps someone. Ok a little hack but I put a strip of electrical black tape in the inside fold of the white weather stripping and that hides the light. The tape is tucked inside the weather strip so it should hold and out of plain sight. Thanks for these videos! It’s a big help.
Shannon, once again, " ů da Man".
Thanks very much. Your visuals have made sense of those vague and
confusing weather strips available at the hardware store. 👍
Lovely Maine accent! Could listen to it all day long!
Canadian actually!
Thank you! I followed your instructions, and I was successful! I'm just waiting for my husband to notice the job is done! 😁
Wonderful!
@@HouseImprovementswhat’s the name of that tool you are using?
nice one, I was looking at doing mine but couldn't really work out how it fit looks the same as what your showing. Back home in the UK, our door weather strips are basically foam backed tape, peal off and put back on, easy job, cool one Shannon, your a rockstar !
Thank you for explaining and showing how this is done.
Thank you. This is much easier than I anticipated. I need to replace it on 2 doors
man, thanks so much. solid instructions. I changed mine out in like 15min tops. So helpful!
Thanks!Would love for you to do a video of me replacing my front door weather stripping on line via video. 50 yr old woman 5ft tall 98 pounds. Walking me through it. I think you would get many likes.😊
Thank you for the donation.
Easy Peasy can that be! I have considered foam (too thick and didn't hold up) or felt ( too thin). I have been looking at the weather stripping and knew it had to come out somehow so I could replace it. Now I can tell my wife "I know how to fit that" Thanks for sharing
So did the foam not work? I just purchased foam weather stripping but haven't installed it yet. Wondering if I should try a different material? First time trying this..appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much.
I have used a screen spline tool to do this once it has been started. great video.
My dog scratched it up and chunks are missing because she’s clingy and didn’t want to be outside on a nice 73° day. So this is helpful for me thank you
My cat tore mine up, and I move soon, so I’ll be sure to do this so I can get my deposit back 😉😉
same here, our dogs scratched ours all up and now air flows between the cracks. I plan on only replacing the bad part and not all of it and I'm thinking of adding a piece of wood to cover the damage siding to hopefully prevent future destruction.
Really did a nice job showing what to do! Thanks!
Very helpful! Used your method in 2024! Thank you!
Thank you 👍..I just change my ..I didn't have any idea how to start .. very helpful.
OMG, thank you, thank you for showing how to replace this, my friend house sit for 2 weeks with her cat and she let her cat scratch the stripping as well as the wood on my door; I know to sand out the scratches but didn't know how I was going to repair the weather stripping.
A10TOES My cat has done the same thing!
Yeah my cat did the same thing that little shit, so I'm using whats left of my cat for my new weather stripping.

Perfect video, don't know if the Weatherstrip had ever been replaced on the front door, the house is 30 years old, but got the job done, looks great and under 10 minutes.
Thank you sir. Very helpful video.
Thank you for helping us take care (on our own) of our homes💕
My husband is handicapped so I do most handyman repairs around my house. I was struggling to put in new weather stripping until I saw your tip to use a spatula to press it in. THANK YOU!
Very entertaining and useful. Thank you very much!
I didn't realize it was so easy. I'll change it now!
Third time this guy’s videos have helped
Thank you.
I was able to change the strips in 15 mins!
Thx! DIY MOMMA
My contractor told me that i have to buy an entire new kit for around the whole door.EVEN THOUGH ITS ONLY THAT ONE PIECE THAT NEEDS REPLACING.( Previous owners cat ruined) i said if thats the case then why do they sell just this strip separately as if u may only NEED to replace that piece? He had no answer for me but insited he was right.i have owned 13 dif houses over my life so far.He has owned zero houses.I have had to replace ALL or Parts of weather stripping at various houses over the years. This contractor had me doubting myself as he was gaslighting me! Thanks to this wonderful video i will replace the damaged weather stripping MYSELF.!!! Grrrr
Well done! I didn't know it was that easy. Thanks!
Our dog chewed ours up....but this looks like a repair even I can take care of, thanks so much for sharing!
Excellent video 👍 thank you for sharing.
Nice how this shows the whole job right through.
Thx, you are the only one that showed me a good picture of where that darn spine goes. That is why mine does not work with that kind, I am Goan a have to use a stick on type.
This is great! I have a back door with this weather stripping. When we had cats, they scratched it down on the bottom. Thanks for the video.
Thank you Shannon. You’re video was easy to follow and I was able to change the weather strip on my door.
Awesome! Mystery solved! Thank you! My cat decided to "knock" on the door to get in whenever she wants... by snapping the weather stripping with her claws...which actually DOES sound like knocking! This literally shreds the weather stripping. In her defense - her meow is too soft to be heard. Now that I can DIY for a $7 part (per door) it is again funny! Kitty needs her own kitty door (in a screen as this is an apartment!) maybe a kitty door bell... saw those on you tube - wireless doorbell and lots of pet treats to teach them how to ring it. win win.
I came here for the exact same reason. My cat has shredded the weather stripping from the bottom and one side of the front door trying to get out (I am in a rented apartment). Bought a new strip today but I had no clue how to replace it so thought I have a look on RUclips.
@@Bahama3ay Ironically came for the same reason. My cat 'knocks' by clawing the crap out of the weatherstripping. Now I know how to install it, and it's a relatively cheap (and easy) process. Here I was thinking that I'd need glue or something to replace it with X'D
@@bonnecherie, haha. Since then I've gone on to replace the weather stripping that I originally replaced again because my cat went and did the same thing to the new one.!! This time around I have also managed to restrict access to the weather stripping with a long piece of rubberised/plastic draught excluder type thing that has an adhesive backing on one side which I have fitted to my door surround, effectively protecting the weather stripping from kitty claws. Problem is now solved. 👍
Fast to point-no drama. Subscirbed
