exactly!! over a decade ago. I googled videos to weatherstrip my cold house right now and this was the best one (and uncomplicated for rookies like me).
If you only knew how many diagrams I've studied and internet searches I've done over the past few years... and your video is the help I needed. Now I know I've been applying weatherstripping to the wrong edge of the hinge side, among other mistakes. Count me in as a subscriber as of right now. Thank you, thank you!
Thanks guys, this helped me out. I was worrying over nothing more than doing a job for the first time, but you showed how easy it was and gave me the confidence to go ahead. That's it now, job done for me. Many thanks.
Thank you, guys. I was finally able to fix the massive air flow coming from my appartment door as well as the hallway light shinning through. It also dampened some of the noise from the foot traffic.
Currently 109 degrees here in Northern California. Needed to figure out how to insulate my apt front door. I found your video simple and to the point. Excellent info! Thank you!
Thank you! It probably seems too simple to some people but for someone like me, this is very helpful. I don't know what new homeowners did before RUclips if they didn't know anyone who was handy!
I got a leaky front door on my home that seems to have gotten worse after our hot Las Vegas summer. And I’m looking for videos on how to fix it and they all don’t look quiete right. But low and behold my favorite people for air quality in my home have a video on just the thing. Love you guys ❤
Thank you. I had to watch quite a few indoor weather stripping videos to help with my issue and this was by far the best one. Thanks a bunch. Cheers!!!🍻
Thank you so much for this video, you have definitely helped me. My 9 year old Daughter and i watched together and I am now confident that I'll be doing it right and she will be learning as well doing it with me. A little embarrassing that I had no idea how to do this at my age lol
Thanks, your videos are clear and concise. I was able to get the plastic window cover up with only one failed try after seeing the instructional video of yours. Thanks for the help.
Thanks SO much! This works great for our exterior door, as we live in Western Oregon. I feel better about doing this myself, and knowing that I did it right. It seems simple now, but there are remnants of old weatherstripping (kind of covered with paint) in three different places on the doorway, NONE as described here ! OK, I admit it -- the most recent is mine. :)
Unfortunately due to the pandemic, our maintenance staff is limited, so DIY it is.... it came out perfect! No more light gaps and door sealed tightly 👍
Not a hard task, but I did it wrong last time so I needed some help. You don't quite show if you cut the weatherstripping at each corner, but it looks like you did. Thanks for the helpful video.
thank you so much! this is exactly what I was looking for. just wish there was the names of the products on the description and were you can buy them. Merry 2020 Christmas.
I really enjoyed this; quick and to the point. Great visuals. I'm in a big city & often get awakened as I can't block out street noise into my apartment with my flimsy hollow core bedroom door. Many thanks. Any other ideas I should consider?................................................................................................... PS- There's also a roaring commercial exhaust fan on the my roof (I'm on the top floor, so this is right over my head, & also I've got a bedroom window, now stuffed with foam pillows, which is actually somewhat useful; of course, it's November now... come the summer though, & I'll need to open the window to get some air, so the pillows may only be a temporary fix ). Any ideas there? My fear is that, other than the window, that noise is probably coming through my walls as well. I can't see hanging curtains on the wall, as the room is pretty small to begin with & I don't want to make it any smaller; still, I'm hungry for ideas that don't demand any great DIY skills or cash. Last question: any ideas for soundproofing my bedroom ceiling, which is what separates me from that roaring exhaust fan? Anyway, thanks again.
Thanks, but I can't do that. I own the apartment. There used to be a French restaurant on the ground floor, and peace. Then a noisy sports bar moved in and all hell broke loose; they fired up the exhaust fan that had never been turned on, and when its motor died they put in a louder one, and the value of my investment (and what peace of mind I had) plummeted. The efficacy of the pillows in the window have given me some hope, & your video has also made me a little more hopeful, that I can "take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, end them". In any case, taking some DIY action beat a seemingly bottomless depression, is my hope. My fear is that if I'm totally unsuccessful, if I end up just writhing uselessly like a fly trapped in a spider's web, what effect that would have on me.
I have the exact stuff. Had the sweeper bout2 years but just bought the tape. My door is resistant as amf and now it's hard to close. By the way, i did it the way you did and tried finding a video because i thought i did it incorrectly. I see i didn't. So now Gotta figure something else out now lol
hpygolkyone hit the nail on the head, 3 yrs ago. This type of weatherstripping might be fine if you live in the south where it doesnt get cold. And as another one commented, wow such a thin door.
That's exactly right- most people completely misunderstand what's inside and what's outside in a home (builders included). The key thing would be to get a complete analysis of your building enclosure and know that this attic needs an exterior insulated door.
Thanks for helping me put my weather stripping on put it on the wrong side didn’t know you had to put it over the hing side my door is sealed thank u how often do u have to replace the foam weather stripping on outside door
Is there reason not use wider strip on the hinge side ( not thicker, just wider ) How long does this type of seal last for doors that face indoors ( inside house on both sides )? How long last for doors that face outside on one side & inside house on other side? Thanks for sharing, appreciate it... The weather striping currently on house has been there from the beginning & has been there for probably 10 to 20 yrs & has provided good seal & adhesive still good... I wish I could find weather stripping originally installed... It was thicker than what hardware stores have now & it was rubbery / like half side of small racing bicycle inner tube cut... So there's small dome facing door...
You didn't address the issue of the paper covering the adhesive side; it APPEARED as if that sticky side made no contact with the lip of the door. If that's true, what makes the foam adhere to the door stop, since it's been applied with the sticky side out?? And since it's sticky side out, might the door itself adhere to the foam, making opening or closing the door more of a chore?
Thanks for this video. Could you share what material you used for the weatherstripping? I know that you called it a "closed cell foam"; the options seem to be by material - poly vinyl foam, rubber foam, and so on.
@@HomePerformance Hello, what is a 'mechanically-fastened' strip? what does it mean? Will the weather stripping withstand both super hot and super cold?
You think this would work well with keeping cigarette smoke out of a bedroom? Unfortunately stuck living under someone’s roof who chain smokes right near my bedroom door so need to figure out how to seal that stuff out since it makes me sick…
What is that little machine you're using to see the cold air coming through? Ugh. I need one of those. Thank you for this video! This is exactly the solution to my back door draft I can't get rid of.
If the weatherstrips are a bit narrower than the actual door stop- would you put it in to touch the corner where it meets the door jamb or would you put it to touch the other edge of the door stop?
Honestly the best weatherstripping is rubber weatherstripping it lasts for many many years peel and stick stuff doesn’t really last as long but it Does get the job done, At least for a while
great video. The issue I am running into is how to figure out the right thickness to buy for a door. There are so many doors and thicknesses and types of door seals and I have tried sealing my front door a couple times and either the sealer is too thick and there is way too much resistance or there is not enough resistance and the door is still loose. Frustrating and wasting $.
I just weather stripped my door the correct way I believe. My door wouldn't close tight any more after the weather stripping. I used the small gap foam weather strip. what can I do now to make the door close tight? Thank you for any help!
Jady, there must be too much wstrip or in a spot that's too tight. Remove the wstrip where it's giving you a problem- you should be able to see that issue at work if you open/close slowly.
Hello. I have a question. I am currently moving into an apartment room (shared with 2 other roommates). My biggest concern is others being able to hear me talk at night (when I record videos or stream). Somebody recommended me to try placing Weatherstrips around the wooden door. I found this video on how to install them on an indoor and the information you presented is very understandable + correct. Will adding weatherstrips around my room door reduce (possibly block out entirely) the volume of my voice when I close the door?
Thank-you for the reply! It's sad how there aren't too many good choices out here for reducing noise without removing drywall (landlord won't approve of drywall renovation).

Hi Ruth. measure the width of the piece of wood (or steel) on the outside that meets the door when it is closed. That is the size you need. Check at a local hardware store (NOT Walmart, they aren't qualified) and ask for someone who is qualified. I used the solid rubber type, and it keeps out air and noise, and is guaranteed for 5 years.

All peel-and-stick strips should perform roughly the same. Overall, it would be better to use a mechanically-fastened strip if possible.
@@HomePerformance Hello, what is a 'mechanically-fastened' strip? what does it mean? Will the weather stripping withstand both super hot and super cold?
It means either nailed or screwed to the frame, not just glued.
How thick was this weather stripping. 1/2" or 1/4"?
