    Imagine traveling from one end of the Imperium to an Agri world of no renown, that just happens to produce only chickens. (In reality it's more akin to a hive world than an Agri world but they produce enough poltry to feed a dozen hive worlds across their sector) And back to the sector you started, where no one's ever heard of a chicken much less Pullus Optima, it's (capital) Magna Bonum or (the) Pullum Villam (processorum). But they'll pay ungod(emperor)ly exorbitant prices for that rare and exquisite delicacy and those who know how to cook it. And just making bank to no end.

      Now just factor in your fuel expenses, the wages of your crew, the potential risks of piracy, and general travel shenanigans and what’s left over is genuine profit. Heck make enough profit and you can even hire someone else to risk life and limb on your ship for you.

    Before watching the video from what I understand because the emperor signed their trade back before and during the great Crusade, a rogue Traders right to do whatever the hell he wants is technically just as absolute as an Inquisitor.

    You know speaking of logistics it's a real pity that the Mechanicus is so verry averse to mass producing any tech that originated from xenos hands.
    Since mass producing the Tau FTL engines for civilian purposes would greatly speed up Imperial logistics.
    Sure it's a fifth of the speed of a Warp Drive.
    But compared with sublight it's basically a blink of an eye.

    • @simonnachreiner8380
      @simonnachreiner8380 Год назад +16

      Also has the benefit of said ship reaching its destination. Sub light ships can easily fall prey to interception, and well warp travel is limited to military craft for very good reason, and not just because of the limited amount of navigators. Meanwhile to actually intercept a FTL craft you have to actually catch said FTL craft.
      Not to mention a warp drive is only faster than FTL engine if the time warp fuckery doesn’t spit you out one hundred thousand years before or after you left. Non-linear time is a bitch after all.

Their sole purpose is to communicate across interstellar distances. _Navigators_ chart and navigate and are responsible for actually directing the ship's pilot(s) during warp travel, especially if any course changes are needed mid-transit. I expect Arch knows this but maybe was having an off day or something (as evidenced by titling them Rouge Traders).

    Rogue Traders are one of the most interesting and overlooked parts of 40K lore. The fact that the rights are HEREDITARY is what makes it so ludicrously powerful. They were also the subject of an interesting 40K RPG, also the only one where having Xenos party members made any sense. That book also provides some of the only stats that exist for Imperial ships in terms of weight and size, even if the numbers make zero sense (small ships would need to have the density of balsa wood in order for their stats to make sense, and the numbers given for the larger ships would require them to be so thin that an ordinary man could probably tear the hull apart with his bare hands).

      It would probably both be tech heresy and within the purview of most Warrants. Depends on how effective and supportive said Trader is of the Imperium. Also depends on the Inquisitor asking the questions.

  • @lolroflroflcakes

    One point of contention, I would imagine they don’t make rogue traders out of anyone as it would be pretty hard for a random under-hive ganger to find his way into ownership of a warpship they can use to fulfill their warrant of trade. You probably already need to have the resources, or at the very least a very convincing plan for obtaining them, to complete the task which means it’s not so much taking someone random off the streets and giving them untold riches and freedom. If you own straight up own a warpship you are probably already absurdly wealthy, even if it’s not particularly fancy and even if you can only operate in a certain area.
    Therefore it’s less a lottery and more a way to reward the truly exceptional and encourage further exploits if your the emperor/one of his sons. If you are a high lord then you are probably just using it to keep the empires elite in sector what’s-it on side by giving someone’s kid a license to dress like a tool and have an Eldar waifu so long as the inquisition doesn’t come knocking.

    I have 2 theories for the "Help of 2:45".
    1. Arch is a genius, and knows people will hear the help, go into the comments, like other comments mentioning it, make their own comments, all of which is feeding the algorithm, getting more people to see this video, more people hearing the help, go into the comments etc.
    2. The inquisition is somehow nefariously to blame.
