Since our times and that of Fallout: New Vegas are basically completely unknown for humanity in the year of 40k you could even invent some head canon where Mr House and the courier succeeded and that's why humanity was able to colonize the solar system and beyond, lmao.

Exactly what I was looking for, great video. This will be my first game related to Warhammer, I love cRPGs and especially Owlcat's Pathfinder games, so it's a good enough reason to play Rogue Trader. Most of the Warhammer lore videos I see are long and pay too much attention to events and characters which I can't say I care for. I just wanted a brief summary of the setting and the factions we'll encounter in the game. I wanted any mention of characters and events to be short and only mentioned if it impacts the general behavior of a faction you encounter. You did just that, thank you.

I'm in the tricky position of having been in and around Warhammer in general since Hero Quest in 1989, and 40K since Space Crusade in 1990. As a result, I'm continuously tripping over lore that's been retconned or changed without me noticing. Rather annoying, I think you'll agree.
Also, a small note on 40K being a satire. People sometimes conflate Satire with parody and silliness or humor. 40K is not like that: it's satire in the same way as Judge Dredd. It's a very British form of satire that takes itself, and it's internal lore, very seriously but is absurd when examined from a modern perspective.
Which isn't to say 40K can't be very silly when it wants to...

There are other powers and divine beings - but many of them have been destroyed or enslaved, often by the Chaos powers like the old Aeldari gods.
The most recent 'divine being' to emerge is the Goddess T'au'va - a manifestation of the T'au's concept of the 'greater good', inadvertently willed into existence by the T'au's human associates (as humans are psychically attuned and T'au are not). Gods get their power through worship and belief, it just happens that in the grim, dark future the Chaos gods are the most well fed and therefore dominate.

Some do, anyway. His explaination was good enough since that is it's own rabbithole and it's only getting deeper with the arrival of the fifth chaos god some lifetime.

Yeah, and the Omnissiah is the avatar of the machine god. Or prophet or something.

Thank you for making a good job on the #40K lore just like Luetin09, Bricky, Weshammer, Majorkill, Oculus Imperia, Arbitor Ian and many others!

Finally someone who sounds like a normal human being. Before I found this one, I've tried to watch several lore videos by other RUclipsrs, but they all sound like wannabe radio DJs with very annoying voices and ridiculous unnatural intonation. Yikes.
Thank you being normal and for sharing your knowledge with us. 👍

I wondered how dudes got so into Warhammer. I always figured they were just nerds. This video helps me understand though. It sounds very cool, and very in depth.

As a long-time 40K enjoy-er, I'd suggest two great 40K lore RUclipsrs. Lutin09 And Arbitor Ian. Both have video's on where to start if you want to read 40K books and lore deep dives on a number of subjects. Ian also does a "book club" on some of the more beloved 40k novels.
I'll also make an unconventional suggestion on 40K reading. The Ciaphas Cain books. The first omnibus is Ciaphas Cain Hero of the Imperium. The series is actually quite funny and Cain is a fascinating POV character. I like the series and recommend it because it is far less grim-and-gritty than much of the rest of the setting.
