@@rattlehead999 Or maybe there are so many games that fit my "play it in three years when it gets better" Steam library folder that I lost count of them.
This game has turned out to be an absolute blast. It's nailed the 40k atmosphere so well, and it has some of the most compelling companion's I've encountered in a CRPG. I've been having a ton of fun with my channel's playthrough of it. I can safely say it's my all time favorite CRPG. Thanks for giving it as much coverage as you did. I was a bit wary of Owlcat at first since I didn't like Kingmaker so much, and Wrath of the Righteous just didn't land well with me at first, but I bought the game on your recommendation, and don't regret it at all. I'm even starting to enjoy Wrath of the Righteous more as well because of it.
Could you tell me if it has primaris or real space marines in it? Saw that you can have a space wolf as a companion. I'm on the fence if I should buy it.
@@jakubjayvincent3203 I mean, both are real according to the new lore. But the Space Wolf is an original Space Marine (aka not a Primaris). And he's great. As far as I'm aware, the game takes place just before the advent of Primaris Marines, so they either don't exist yet, or are not many in number.
@TheAshHeritor thanks for the confirmation. Yeah, I know the lore ;) Been playing the TT for more then a decade. Switched to HH full time, when GW nuked the setting with primaris. I make an active effort not to support anything with primaris in it. Will buy the game.
Underrated game. They really capture the 40k feel well. I would have liked to see more factions get more prominent roles though (orcs and tau, more from necrons and tyranids).
It makes sense lore wise why the Tau aren't really in the game, the Koronus Expanse is on the complete opposite end of the galaxy from their empire so justifying them being there would be difficult. Plus their not in any of the TTRPG's material. Would love to see a decent 40K game featuring more of theme though.
@@TheOffkilter you could find a small group of captured tau in comoragh since the drukhari enjoy capturing tau. Maybe get one as a companion and fight a crisis suit in the arena. The tau there would be happy to join you just to get out of comoragh even if it would be impossible for them to get home.
I agree! The game captures the W40k atmosphere so well and I too would love more factions. I'm 95h into the game and have just played the DLC for a few hours. It's even better than the base game.
I am all in favor of more factions in theory, but from a story perspective it would be difficult to properly meld them into a cohesive story. I already found it a bit hapdash as it is with some of the factions currently used feeling a bit outside the story. Admittedly, I prefer a more focussed story like Kingmaker's focus on fey, and Wrath on demons. I would prefer a RT2 with a story focussing on another part of the galaxy with other factions and a story that would fit those better..
just playin', 4 chapter. Havent played for a long time in RPG with such dense and intriguing story and the plot which I am 100% in. Last time it was Fallout 1/ 2. During the black friday sale on steam I actually watched your review for Rogue Trader and I didn't bought because the state of the game on release. Its nice to have this video now for the holiday sale this month.
Supported it on the kickstarter and played it alot at launch but got tired off the bugs and glitches so put it down, sounds like a good time now so its next one up =) good show sir
Definitely, just beat it yesterday and it was phenomenal. I would maybe wait for the 1.3 patch since it's suppose to be kinda big. Should be out this month
I dunno if it was the result of patches or me being better at the the game but my main issue with playing at launch was constantly getting wounds and having to run back to ship. Had absolutely no issue with it this time
Most a game has captured me in years. Totally under appreciated. I think how it leans so hard into the licensed IP is one of its greatest strengths, but also a weakness because I think it keeps some people bouncing off it. I hope more videos like this happen over the years so people who would LOVE this game get talked into trying it.
I'm replaying it now (I stopped due to bugs on launch, waited for big patches to come back) but I can safely say it's a fantastic game now. Might even make to my favorites of all time.
In terms of DLC support you've speculated on in the end. I'd say it will most likely get another season of DLC. Since the numbers for Void Shadows on steam were much higher than the top preforming WOTR DLC if they are looking at it from a profit sustainability perspective. If the next DLC preforms good too (even if lesser than void shadows) I'd say it's a safe bet to expect at least 1 more season. I predict a xeno companion (Tau, Ork, Kroot or another Eldar) and a emdless dungeon DLC that is integrated into main campaign but with more story around it than the previous versions of that DLC type i. Owlcat games and maybe they add a Dance of Masks style DLC to wrap up since that one was very well recieved by the fanbase.
thanks dude, i picked this up on the Winter sale with Pathfinder so that wil be enough game for me for the whole 2025 I reckon. have a good christmas mate.
I would hope this Rogue Trader game continues to get dlc past the second. Because of just how much can be added. from orks, to whole other sections of space that also come from the old FFG books... Hell they could add the insides of the Cauldron and allow for Heretical activities within the 'chaos' dominanted space.
I have a confession to make. When this game first was released, I Dismissed this game as something I wouldn't like and only buy on sale. After going on sale I bought it. Now I like you Freaking love this game.
@stevenwoodward5923 Hahaha No shame in waiting for a sale. I loved the other games from the devs, and I have the Rogue Trader ttrpg, so I was immediately keen for this one. Glad you're on board with it now!
I got this on sale and I have no prior exposure to the Warhammer franchise, I just enjoyed Pathfinder WOTR and was coming off of a depressing run with Veilguard…boy, am I glad I got this game! It is peak RPG in this year. I am liking it even more than Pathfinder. The writing and voice acting in this game is superb.
I made a blade dancer and also kibellah.... We are kind of glass cannons but also one woman army. If used right she alone can wipe the map, then my girl rogue trader tidus a(a descendant of tidus) is a machine herself. I love the BD...
Picked up Rogue Trader on the recent sale and have been having a great time. Im a fan of the Shadowrun games so I had some CRPG experience but Im totally new to 40k. Its such a well made game and the interactivity between companions plus the constant payoffs of my choices (positive or negative) is just so satisfying
Dude! I picked this up during the most recent holiday sale on steam with the season pass, this is one of the best games I’ve played recently! Didn’t even finish up chapter 2 before I started making my second character. Ever since BG3 came out I’ve been shown a whole new genre, that of the CRPG I’ve been playing Divinity original Sin 1 and have the second one ready two go after that. I’m hooked man.
One of the best CRPG's ever for me. I even dare to say that there are some aspects in which Rogue Trader is better than Baldurs Gate 3. Specifically the companions and the overall story. But that's of course subjective. I would like to know what others think?
For me it takes a lot of discipline to finish all these CRPGs, but it seems that’s where the talent is focused currently (them and soulslikes). Finally knuckled down and almost done with BG 3 and it’s been soooo worth it. Already have 40K, but I need to really focus on getting WOTR first. Goddamn these games are worth it though
Thanks for this updated video! I picked up this game last year but decided to wait on it for patches. Glad to hear it has improved and in a good state 👍
Thank you for keeping us updated on the game. I havent played it yet i was waiting them to fix it. Now im waiting for all the DLC to release and play the complete game.
Given how Rogue Trader has improved over the course of the patches and DLC so far, I'm really, really looking forward to what Owlcat can do with it in the future. Even if I'm dubious we'll ever get another 40K RPG from them, this one has been pretty great.
This is probably my favorite game ever and the first RPG where I actually enjoyed reading all the texts. Although you still absolutely can make very powerful builds, the Void Shadows added some very hard and challenging content which makes even the most broken and powerful party sweat.
Great timing, recently bought the game some time ago during a sale, but couldn't quite bring myself to play it yet as so far most critics seemed to have the opinion that the game still needed some time to mature. Thanks for making this video
I finished it once around the launch and jumped back in when the DLC launched, it's been incredible so far, Kibelliah is a hell of a lot of fun. Also running into Genestealers made me irrationally happy
Hard to imagine how a Necron companion would work without it being in disguise 24/7, pissing off the Eldar, and then there's the C'tan plot issue. I think a Kroot, Freeboota or a race with no army would make more sense like a Sslyth. Don't think we're getting more xenos companions anyway, unfortunately.
The table tops first xenos options were an Work free boots and a kroot. I hope we get a kroot, I love me some cannibal vulture bois. Bawk for the Bawk God!
I picked this up on sale recently but haven't had a chance to jump in yet WoTR was my cozy winter game two years ago. I'm excited for rogue trader to be my cozy winter game this season!
Havent watched the vid yet but I gotta say, after just finishing my first playthrough a few days ago. Some of their best work yet. Wrath of the Righteous I think still has some advantages solely due to the Mythic Path system but as someone who disliked the combat in prev Owlcat games quite a bit, I am very happy with how Rogue Traders combat turned out. I actually had fun this time.
Finally got it on offer and so far its a phenomenal crpg. It immensely immerse you into the 40k world and its incredible. I truly feel like im in the universe. If they had the budget of BG3 i genuinely rhink it would have been better than it. Well done owlcat.
I've had this one on the backburner for a while and have been meaning to go back and finally finish it. It was pretty great for the 30 or so hours I had put into it so far.
i just started playing this game a month ago, after buying the deluxe edition on a massive sale a few months back, and im having such a fun time. it does a great job at making you feel immersed in the world of 40k, even if i wish there were a few more factions we couldve interacted with. void shadows and kibellah especially have made me love this game way more as well
I played through it once at launch when it was a buggy mess but still loved it. I'm still patiently waiting until the game is content complete before I play it again.
I picked it up on sale and doing my first playthrough right now and Im having a blast. It feels very authentic to the setting. Would love for Owlcat to do a Warhammer Fantasy game just like it one day too.
I’ll be playing through for the first time sometime soon… I bought it when first came out, but I just have back burnered it… i’m super looking forward to it and glad to hear that the state of the game is so solid.
I was debating between this and pathfinder WOTR as my next game since you talk about them so much, guess I’m going WOTR since they’re still updating rogue trader with content
Bought the game shortly after the 1.2 patch and had a great time with it. Void Shadows made the second playthrough even more enjoyable and should be bought by everyone. It integrates so well into the main game that if your first playthrough was with the DLC enabled, you wouldn't even know which missions and characters were DLC and which were not.
I love Owlcat games but barely made it more than a few hours into this. I didn't 'quit' as such, just put it down one day and never went back. Maybe it's the setting, not knowing much about 40k I found a lot of the lore pretty impenetrable. I want to give it another go, especially after all the patches. Would the DLC ve worth getting (for someone like me) or just complicate things further?
Great game, am waiting for the second dlc, first playthrough in coop took us 140 hours to 100% with very few bugs. Actually better to give each player the ability to save than BG3 since a lost save or wishing to check stuff in game is something we want to do time to time.
Replaying it again and it really is a good game. The setting is just right and the skill system is close enough to Pathfinder so you have immense customization options. Ticks all the boxes for me.
I was absolutely loving this game after it game out, I put over 150 hours into it... with probably over half of that unfortunately stuck redoing things since it crashed so bloody often back then. I put it down because act 4 became basically unplayable. Would you recommend starting over due to the new dlc? Or just continuing with my old save. I was planning on going back in when Void Shadows dlc came out but Space Marine 2 came out around the same time... and kinda forgot. 😅
Started playing last month and forced myself to stop near the end of act 1 and wait for the 2nd DLC, as I was really enjoying it. Was a bummer to find out the DLC got delayed to the start of 2025, but Im working on other games in my back catalogue while waiting.
I started it a few weeks ago and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm glad I started late on this one. My biggest hurdle at first was not knowing the universe and trying to consume the writing that sounded like a bunch of Gobbledygook, but after playing for some time it starts to make more sense.
I picked this one up for myself in the Christmas sale, I’m playing it right now in between this video and early days I’m enjoying the combat system and it is nice to have a lot of voice acting. I certainly think I’ve spoiled too much with BG3 but I think I will have a lot of fun with Rogue trader
It's so awesome to see this game get cleaned up and adding extra content. It's such a cool setting and the story and characters are really engaging. It was just tough to justify buying it on launch given all its issues. I've been playing it since patch 1.2 and have been thoroughly engrossed.
My first run was with Void Shadows and the DLC was so well integrated that most of the time I couldn't tell what part was DLC except when it directly related to Kibellah
It's become my favorite 40k video game of all time and one of my favorite rpgs. With how time passes with each warp jump, it almost feels more like Persona where decisions on where to go matter.
I just put down my steamdeck. Im wrapping up chapter 4 now. This game has been so much fun for me. Being a massive fan of the source material, and never having a true RPG in videogames. I have grown quite sentimental for this game. Its far from perfect, easily broken, plot holes, and pacing issues. Maybe a bug or two. ;) but this is one of those cases where i don't mind the shortcomings because i am so incredibly satisfied with the experience overall. I started a month or two after voidshadows dropped. So i did miss a lot of the initial frustration. All of that said i hope more and more people get to try Rogue Trader. There is so much love and attention to detail here. Lol I feel like this video was made for me. I comment about this game on like every video haha. Thank you good sir!
Just completed it for the first time yesterday actually, fantastic game that used the 40K lore really well! No real bug issues other than some rumors wouldn't get marked as complete
I'll probably pick this up on GOG when it's next on sale with the DLC. WH40k is a super interesting setting, and I hope we keep getting good games of all genres set there.
Love this game, personal GOTY (bought on release but waited for DLC and patches to smooth the experience). Cannot wait for the next DLC, already planning multiplayer playthrough
One of my favorite games of all time, easly top 5. I'm just about to finish wotr now, it's weird going backward and seeing what owlcat improved and where they went backward.
Honestly, the dev is underrated period. I find this game to be really great with depth and replayability. I think they don't get the recognition because there's a learning curve and heaven forbid the modern masses have to connect brain cells to play a game nowadays (the popularity of COD is proof of this).
Excellent game that nails the feel of 40k perfectly. Glad to hear Owlcat is adding more voiced content, as that is one of my only critiques. Having bought it quite a bit after launch, my playthrough has thus far been bug free.
I've tried to get pulled into the 40k universe through video games a bunch of times over the decades and most fell flat for me. I remember digging the roleplay aesthetic of Witch Hunter class in their MMO and I remember an RTS that was pretty fun. But I just recently tried Rogue Trader and THIS is the game that finally pulled me in! I'm LOVING this game! So much so that I bought it as a Steam gift for a few of my buddies.
Not just one of the best Warhammer 40k games but one of the best cRPGs period. I'm currently not in a 40k mood, otherwise I'd finish my second playthrough. Finished Void Shadows, though as far as I can tell and it was excellent indeed.
First playthrough was amazing, if a bit broken by the end. Waiting for the second DLC for my second playthrough. Am really keen to see the balance changes and new content.
It's a good thing I still have so many games to play before this one is done, starting with WOTR that finally had its last DLC this year. Nowadays a review once a game has finished its support cycle is more useful than the one at launch ^^
I tried to play at launch but ran into one too many softlocks where combat just wouldn't progress past some enemy units turn or my character got stuck in an attack animation. I can't wait to get back into it once the DLC is done though because when it did work well it was amazing.
Blade Dancer is so much fun to play. It's the kind of overpowered class I don't mind at all, only broken if you actually think about what you're doing and use all your abilities in the right order. It can kill entire encounters in one turn, yes, but you're still actually playing the game and not just pressing one button to win.
Perfect timing! I just got to Act 4, personally, love the story, so play in story mode, don't care for the combat. I treat it like a visual novel! 📚 End of Act 2 finally installed toybox mod to help when I got stuck running out of navigator points.
I'm also in act 4 now. Have been playing for 95h, including a few hours on the DLC. I love Rogue Trader! I also care more for the story and atmosphere than for the combat.
I did the visual novel approach for both Pathfinder games, cause it was too much to get into the complicated system. Considerably reduced the playtime and was very happy with playing them this way.
My biggest issue was the planet building stuff. I would have wanted more of it and more meaning to it for you. Its an aspect I enjoy in these kinds of games to build up a fortress, city or empire alongside these huge roleplaying games. I hope they add some twist to the system in the future.
I blink and it's a year later

The table tops first xenos options were an Work free boots and a kroot. I hope we get a kroot, I love me some cannibal vulture bois. Bawk for the Bawk God!
I picked this up on sale recently but haven't had a chance to jump in yet
WoTR was my cozy winter game two years ago.
Bro the Argenta revelation was sick.
My Christmas present for my friends this year. Can't wait to play this gem in multiplayer for the first time
I've had this one on the backburner for a while and have been meaning to go back and finally finish it. It was pretty great for the 30 or so hours I had put into it so far.
Been playing through rogue trader and I love it so much, it's such an amazing depiction of the wh40k universe
Thanks for the information, hopefully it’s on sale this Christmas time as I’ll be picking it up next time it’s on sale
i just started playing this game a month ago, after buying the deluxe edition on a massive sale a few months back, and im having such a fun time. it does a great job at making you feel immersed in the world of 40k, even if i wish there were a few more factions we couldve interacted with. void shadows and kibellah especially have made me love this game way more as well
I played through it once at launch when it was a buggy mess but still loved it. I'm still patiently waiting until the game is content complete before I play it again.
I picked it up on sale and doing my first playthrough right now and Im having a blast. It feels very authentic to the setting. Would love for Owlcat to do a Warhammer Fantasy game just like it one day too.
You're definitely one of the people I'd like to see a playthrough of this game.
I’ll be playing through for the first time sometime soon… I bought it when first came out, but I just have back burnered it… i’m super looking forward to it and glad to hear that the state of the game is so solid.
Amazing game, looking forward to my second playthrough with void shadows on!
Patch 1.3 has launched :) its huuuuuuge one
Convinced me to buy; thanks!
Ive enjoyed this game so much i crowdfunded It as a backer, then bought it again on console to play it there.
The vert best 40k game so far, at least for me, a Turn Base RPG lover.
Finally started my playthrough last week and it doesn't disappoint. Finally, some good 40k!
Just when I was looking for a video of the updates on this game.... Morty you never disappoint my man
I started it a few weeks ago and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
Just got this game ive been having a blast so far!!
This is one of my favorite CRPG's. It captures the world of 40K VERY well!
Definitely looking forward to Lex Imperialis, but not sure I'll be able to wait for it without starting my second playthrough.
I’m still playing it! And can’t wait for the next dlc.
Just picked up the Voidfarer Edition (it's downloading now) and am eager to dive in to see what it has to offer.
One of my fav CRPG´s along with WoTR for sure.
Rogue Trader je absolute blast. Love it
Just started this a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoying it so far despite its steep learning curve.
Loved the game and storyline. Finished first play through a week ago. Had to stop myself from starting over for different story outcomes.
Not just one of the best Warhammer 40k games but one of the best cRPGs period. I'm currently not in a 40k mood, otherwise I'd finish my second playthrough. Finished Void Shadows, though as far as I can tell and it was excellent indeed.
I really need to play this game because rouge trader looks tons of fun
thank you for this, will play the game again
End of Act 2 finally installed toybox mod to help when I got stuck running out of navigator points.
